Last month, at the suggestion of Hawaii Sis-In-Law, we got an Instant Pot. She mad some Butter Chicken in it, which was pretty good. But today is the first time I’ve used it. I’m making Pozole, which ought to be ready in a few minutes.

I have no idea how it will have turned out.

First we’ll hear denials - “He wasn’t booed! That’s fake news!!”

Then we’ll get conspiracy theories - “The fake news media put in boos to make it look like the stadium was booing him!”

Then will come to the hand-wringing - “It’s so wrong for people to boo their president at a baseball game! We never did that in the America I remember!”

Followed by calls for “boycotts” and burning of merchandise - “They’ll never get another dollar from me! I’ll never watch a baseball game again!”

“Go fever” is a stone-cold bitch when it comes back and bites you; if you look at the four major NASA incidents that everyone knows (Apollo 1, Apollo 13, Challenger, and Columbia, with Apollo 13 being the only incident of the bunch that didn’t result in LOCV), “go fever” had a hand in all of them, to one extent or another.

Ladies and gentlemen:
Donald has just left the ballpark

Donald has just left the ballpark -
Those are his skid marks, right there
Donald has just left the ball park -
To climb right back into his bed

The preachers all love him,
He brings them relief
With plenty of graft
From his crooked henchmen!
Giuliani ‘n Matt Gaetz
Whizz over his head -
Ayn Rand let him sass
The DC Press Corpse ALL kiss his ass

Donald has just left the ballpark -
Those are his skid marks, right there
Donald has just left the ball park -
To climb right back into his bed

So what if he looks like a wart-hog in heat?
He knows the MAGATS all love him
They’ll just watch him eat,
So take down the foil
From his hotel retreat,
And bring back God’s King
For the man in the street!

Donald has just left the ballpark -
Those are his skid marks, right there!
Donald has just left the ballpark -
He’s heading for prison in the impeachment glare!

Tomorrow you can count on FAUX and FIENDS saying Poor Widdle Innocent Trump was set up by the Deep State.

They’re going to keep dry humping the Al Baghdadi operation and painting Trump as the unfair victim of an MSM that refuses to give him an ounce of praise. When in fact the MSM bends over backwards to normalize what is objectively the most unprofessional and worst managed Presidency in modern history, if not all time.

Pretty damn good. She was the first Dem Rep we’ve had since the district was moved in 2003 and then shrunk down to it’s current form in 2013. It’ll be close but I feel like the right Dem candidate will be able to tap into a deep well of anger over this.

Just like New Yorkers in 2016, we are intimately familiar with Trump’s bs in the DMV, we know he’s full of shit. As for taking pleasure in the Nats losing, the Stros won in large part due to Yorgan Alvarez who is a Cuban defector. And despite Rubio and Cruz kissing Trump’s ass, he’s opposed them too. Another factor was Carlos Correa who is from Puerto Rico. It truly is a World Series with all the backgrounds these players are from. I’m glad Trump got booed and got to hear lock him up. He’s going to watch even more FNC and ass kissing to make himself feel better after this and the justified criticism of how he handled the Baghadi death.

Watching all of the delightful Trump-being-boo’d videos this morning I am struck by how well he is choreographed by his team to NEVER be in a situation where the public can express themselves in this way. Trump sweeps in to a selected audience for a photo op and quickly departs. Or, he has his lovely klan rallies where he is shown the crowd’s rapturous response. The most he gets is a raised finger or two. Until last night.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. As expected, Trump was lustily booed by the crowds at the WS last night.

They even chanted lock him up. They threw his own slogan against him. And yet there are those who think that this was improper?

Really? This is the ultimately expression of the 1A and speaking truth to power. If anyone deserves impeachment it’s the unindicted coconspirator in the Cohen case and who violates the Constitution and the oath of office daily. It’s precisely what he needs to hear, because all his sycophantic supporters wont tell him how it really is, and his rallies are all about ego-boosting the vain, shallow, and fragile snowflake that Trump has always been.

Stay safe CA lizards with wildfires all across the state.

The Getty fire in LA is apparently threatening the Getty Museum, and they’re directing more resource there.

It’s wildfire season year round in CA thanks to climate change and fickle winds and rains that alternate between drought and flooding rains (with mudslides after the wildfires to boot). The slightest spark will set off the tinder, and it’s becoming apparent that the power utilities have failed to properly maintain their rights of way and power lines to prevent fires. Their solution is to cut power to prevent fires. That’s not a solution. That’s an admission that they screwed up so badly that they don’t have any other options.

The state utility regulators better come down hard on PG&E and others to make sure that they get their distribution systems upgraded pronto. And yeah, that’ll mean higher costs to ratepayers, but the alternative? Wildfires that send millions fleeing from their homes, dozens dying, and billions of dollars in damages.

The whole arming teachers business is bulkshit intended to sell more guns.

It doesn’t increase public safety one iota.

Teachers would be the first target of a shooter. Doesn’t matter if they’re packing or not. The presumption will be shoot those who may have guns first.

But would teachers actually be a deterrent if they were packing heat? Nope.

Because how often do teachers have their backs turned to the class or the door? Quite often when they’re up at the board writing. And where would this gun be? In their desk? Holster?

In the time it’d take to get the gun out of the desk or unholstered, they’d already be shot. The shooter always has the initial advantage.

And then there are the teachers who know that not having a gun doesn’t matter - that you can defuse the situation with a hug.

If NONE of the teachers were allowed to pack you wouldn’t have that situation”. Fucking idiots.

Guy I know, a vet who I went to school with likes the idea of armed veterans guarding schools. Just no.

Think about it - last night was the first time since before he was elected that Trump has appeared in front of anything other than a tightly-controlled, hand picked audience. He’s been able to sustain the delusion that people love him for that long.

Last night changed all that. Now he knows what the public is thinking, and it ain’t ‘Lock her up.’ Talk about getting hit by a clue by four. He must be absolutely reeling this morning.

That thought makes me pretty happy.

Trump last tweeted about 16 hours ago. He’s been silent since the boo-fest last night.

Not a word about the fires in CA.
Not a word about remembering the anniversary of the mass murder of parishioners at Tree of Life in PA.
Not a peep about the mass shooting in Texas.

Nope. Radio silence.

He’s still recovering from the burn of being the target of the boo-fest at the WS. What a fragile snowflake we have in the WH. And his idiot/sycophantic advisers who insulate him from the consequences of his actions (and are complicit in the crimes and subsequent coverups).

It seems pretty funny, the booing and chanting, but it’s really f’ing sad that an American president has so sullied the office that 40,000 people are booing and giving him the finger.

That, perhaps, was predictable: Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon and both Bushes were all booed while attending baseball games as President.

And I have a way different opinion of how we should interact with Facebook than most people here. If you have ever had to correct a friend or relative because they heard from another friend about something, then you need to do the same on Facebook. Because while you want to think of it as the place you share baby pictures, it’s the place where people go to hear from friends and relatives, and guess what, they rate any information that comes from them as being more valuable than general information, because why wouldn’t your friend send it to you otherwise.

And I include my own family who will use Occupy Democrats in that too and even memes whose fundamental message I agree with. The problem is memes simplify reality and we’re parroting someone else’s agenda instead of thinking. I’ll see people who post nothing but political articles and memes. FB as Belafon put it is a great way to stay in touch with extended friends and family. I have two first cousins who reside in the UK. FB is my way of staying in touch with them. FB is also how I got closer to another cousin who is quite a bit older than me and we didn’t grow up together but we like to talk and her son is close to my youngest brother’s age. Is there any point in purchasing an Instant Pot if I already own:
1. A Pressure Cooker
2. A Slow Cooker
3. A Rice Cooker
4. A Dutch Oven

I have a high end pressure cooker that I love. Bought an Instant Pot and still haven’t even taken it out of the box.

Geez: “traffic nightmare” is likely to be an understatement. The 405 Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass is basically the only main route through the Santa Monica Mountains on the entire West Side of L.A. I remember those canyon roads they are suggesting as alternate routes from my schooldays in the early ’60s: narrow, twisting, slanting, two-lane streets barely adequate for the people who live along them. And the haven’t been improved much since….

No one is going up to Trump to tell them their 401(k) is doing anything. It’s such transparent bulkshit.

Identify the person who said this.

Look, it’s true that the markets have been doing well over the past couple of years…. like since 2010. I’ve seen my own 401(k) swell. But that’s not on Trump. That’s on solid economic fundamentals, and over the past year, we’ve tread water, because Trump’s trade wars have introduced new uncertainties.

Argentina election: Centre-left Alberto Fernández wins presidency

Mr Fernández, 60, got more than the 45% of the vote needed to win, beating conservative incumbent Mauricio Macri.

Raucous crowds gathered at Mr Fernández’s election headquarters to celebrate the result of Sunday’s poll.

The vote was held amid an economic crisis that has left a third of Argentina’s population in poverty.

Former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, 66, will now become vice-president in Mr Fernández’s administration. She is said to have played a key role in Mr Fernández’s electoral triumph.

Mr Macri, 60, had trailed behind his challenger in pre-election polls and was trounced by the opposition in primary elections in August. He conceded defeat on Sunday night, congratulating his political rival.

The person who wrote this diary, dailykos.com, from Argentinian, considers Macri’s election in 2015, the start of the whole mess that included Brexit and Trump’s election, and is hopeful that his defeat is an indication that things are turning around.

I mean…I’d argue that it’s not even just one double standard, but multiple double standards compounding atop one another. the Dixie Chicks saying W was bad was bad enough in that atmosphere where liberalism was already considered proto-treason. The fact that it was 3 women who were being outspoken about it just made it that much worse because they should’a known their place!.

It seems well and apparent how ‘liberal’ media establishments are when you see which acts are “allowed” to have redemption arcs, and how said redemption arc usually end up playing out (i.e. pandering to the bigot bases). Woe be unto those who aren’t the right color, sex, orientation, religion, identity, etc. if you want redemption, even from shit you ideally shouldn’t have to be ‘redeemed’ from in the first place.

This is a thread for people who want to support a nationwide boycott of the Dixie Chicks for their unbelievable statements in another country!

…it is important to note that many people were very turned off by the
way that the Dixie Chicks were being treated, including many of their female supporters. However, these voices were not prioritized throughout this controversy. Rather, it was a vocal group of misogynists whose voices were highlighted. Specifically, an organization called the Free Republic which organized to ban the Dixie Chicks from country radio gained attention while many women’s voices remained silenced.

Hell, as much as I’m disinterested in Florida Georgia Line, they did a remix of their song ‘Cruise’ with Nelly, and they make use of hip hop beats in a lot of their stuff.

It doesn’t say much for their connection to ‘traditional’ country, but it does show that younger country audiences are a lot more accepting of other styles than, say, the Grand Old Opry crowd.

I think the better term would be “cowering in fear”. Specifically fear of HIM (Trump). It’s a power fantasy.

Baghdadi thought he was on his way to paradise and voluntarily blew himself up. He’s been hunted by the U.S. for years and survived who knows how many attempts on his life. The myth he was sniveling and crying doesn’t add up at all. That’s a Trump bedtime story.

Exactly. Maybe Joe would have a point if this happened at a Warren rally but it didn’t. Trump got his own slogan used against him. Joe is being willfully obtuse.

re: #305 lawhawk

I just realized that this is total bulkshit too.

Look, the S&P has increased 17% this year. Trump claiming someone said their portfolio was up 70% is into either some speculative stuff, or lying about their rate of return. Heck, even a 40% runup strains credulity as he repeatedly inflates the totals each time he retells the story (9 month runup, massive growth, etc.).

And my guess is that most 401(k) wont have anything nearly that speculative in their offerings precisely because that’s not the point.

In fact, the NYPD takes part in the DCP offered by NYC. They have set portfolio of options, and allow more experienced investors to put up to 20% in other investments (self directed investment). Based on that alone, the fact some cop is touting 70% return (or even 40%) doesn’t pass the smell test over a 9 month period (essentially YTD).

Did anyone seriously suggest that Obama should be able to be immune from criticism for a day because of the OBL raid? And let’s not forget that Trump even mishandled this.

Sigh. That’s where I would have been today but had an appointment that I already rescheduled three times — and could not do it again. But delighted that there was a good turnout.
