The Trump Gang Has Been Caught in a Serious Coverup

Now we have damning evidence of the Trump gang engaging in a coverup. It’s not an 18½-minute gap, but Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman testified yesterday that the White House omitted a section in the transcript (which was actually not a verbatim transcript) of Trump’s call with Ukraine president Zelensky, in which Trump explicitly mentioned “tapes” of Joe Biden.

In the Rachel Maddow clip above, former Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul has some scathing words for the right wing ratfuckers currently trying to smear Lt. Col. Vindman — a veteran of the Iraq War who earned a Purple Heart.

Rachel Maddow shares breaking news from the New York Times that Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman testified to House impeachment committees that corrections he sought to make to the record of Donald Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky were not made. Michael McFaul, former U.S. ambassador to Russia, joins with analysis. Aired on 10/29/19.

Many of us tried to sound the alarm about that “transcript” of Trump’s Ukraine call, because it contained several ellipses. The White House claimed the ellipses didn’t represent missing phrases, but now we know this was another lie from this thoroughly corrupt administration.

The default assumption with any document provided willingly by the Trump gang should be that they’re releasing it because it’s been doctored. They pulled this with William Barr’s summary of the Mueller report, and tried to do it again with this altered transcript.

I am sure that the kind folks in Ukraine have their own recording of that tape, now they could be blackmailing Trump threatening its release.

Turn about is fair play and all of that…..

lawhawk  Oct 30, 2019 • 10:00:48am

It was a readout, not a verbatim transcript. And even that was doctored to remove the truly incriminating bits because it confirms what Trump had already admitted to - that he was withholding military aid to Ukraine unless the Ukrainian government investigated Trump’s political enemies and gave Trump dirt on Bidens to help Trump politically (personally).

Everything that follows is a felony crime - the obstruction, the conspiracy, the witness intimidation, interfering in federal investigations, all of it.

And it expressly implicates all of the following:
Trump
Pompeo
Pence
Perry
Mulvaney
Sondland
House GOPers who improperly and illicitly entered the SCIF to disrupt the proceedings and particularly those who carried electronic devices into the SCIF.

Sondland basically paid $1M to become a criminal. It’s what happens when you put unqualified people into complicated jobs. I wonder if he’s second guessing that?

and do we know it’s not actually an 18 minute gap?

the gaps are not as long, they don’t need to be in order to fully incriminate Trump and establish a QUID PRO QUO

I was listening to a left-leaning Boston Public Radio (redundant, perhaps) show a bit ago (Jim and Margery) and their guest made the comment about the Ukraine cover-up ‘I’ll bet there are half-a-dozen countries he’s done this to that will come to light.’ It’s likely true and that’s why the transcripts got moved to the nearly impossible to access storage (forgot what it’s called). As she said, ‘Trump doesn’t just do one-off frauds and extortion.’

two good comments re this entire mess:

Bohica
Again, I don’t believe that Little Donnie cared whether Ukraine turned up any real dirt on Joe Biden, just as long as they announced publicly that they were looking into allegations against him. A quick investigation, which would have found nothing substantive, would have done him no good, but an extended one, with unverifiable leaked innuendo galore, was what he wanted.

and

Cedric
Trump obviously thought he got away with the Russia thing and was planning on another repeat in 2020. He got cocky and now it might be his downfall.

and

Cedric has the same observation I have. The Mueller testimony happened on July 24, I always remember that because it’s my birthday and the Ukraine call happened the next day. I think he saw that it would be difficult to perhaps impeach based off the Mueller Report alone so he got cocky and tried it again.

*whispers* no, it’s only Wednesday. Holy horse shit batman, this Friday’s news dump is going to be even more off the hook.

That Nunes and his staffers are directly implicated in wrongdoing. It’s not surprising or shocking. It’s entirely predictable given the way he’s been a Trump shill and defending every last bit of Trump criminality. He knew that it could come out that he was running a disinformation campaign to aid Trump’s efforts in Ukraine to destabilize Ukraine while forcing them to start an investigation against the Bidens so as to get much needed military gear.

What if conservative evangelicals’ ubiquitous talk of “the end times” from the 1970s up through today has been a self-fulfilling prophecy? As in, what if they’ve empowered the party and backed the economic policies that lead to the actual destruction of America & the planet?

I talked to a number of Trump supporters who voted for him because they figured that our entire system and civilization is doomed and Trump is the man to speed up the process of demolishing it so we can start over again.

It’s visibly amateurish on even a casual glance. The masking is bad, edges are far too sharp, the inattention to detail is obvious, and there’s no attempt at making the lighting on the two subjects even close to matching.

Anyone who takes this seriously is being willfully obtuse, at best,

As if video games or sports were ever free of politics and/or goofy light-hearted personal interest shit.

And seeing the takes from all sides of the aisle just makes my migraine flare up, especially when this was all started by Peter Thiel as well as Hulk Hogan trying to take revenge for being outed as a racist shit.

Kotaku and Deadspin’s parent company is cracking down hard on certain kinds of subject matter and discouraging stories that go out of each site’s ‘niche’, enough to fire a top editor at Deadspin as well as making moves that are coming close to union busting attempts.

The VICE piece is mainly about the G/O Media group’s shameless autoplay ad stuff but goes further into the detail regarding the adversarial atmosphere going on between staff and ownership.

And for context, both Kotaku and Deadspin were central in the firestorm around Gamergate for daring to report on how shitty Gamergaters were being.

Well, go the computer all set up. Installed some extra RAM, so now it”s up to 8 Gb.

Haven”t been on Windows in a long time, but so far, so good.

Keep the updates current and be sure to reboot at least once a day. 10 is about a “7” in terms of windows versions. Lots of bloat in the apps menu that can be uninstalled. Chrome becomes “unresponsive” once or thrice a day and needs to be forced to close and restart but it is still worlds better than the horrific hot mess that is Edge. The registry can still be corrupted by a wrong look or a sneeze…

If I ever get Warframe to run acceptably on linux, windows is toast.OTOH, it is better than Vista or 8. I’d still rather go back to 2000 or XP ot even 3.51.

Didn’t know this analogy was quite so formalized:
Flying Monkeys (popular psychology)

Flying monkeys or apaths, is a term used in popular psychology mainly in the context of narcissistic abuse. They are people who act on behalf of a narcissist to a third party, usually for an abusive purpose (e.g smear campaign). The phrase has also been used to refer to people who act on behalf of a psychopath, for a similar purpose. The term is not formally used in medical practice or teaching.

Abuse by proxy (or proxy abuse) is a closely related or synonymous concept. The term is from the flying monkeys used by the Wicked Witch of the West in the 1939 film Wizard of Oz to carry out evil deeds on her behalf

“The Democrats have been on this path for 3 years. The first headline I saw…before the President was sworn in was that the Impeachment process was beginning…so this is just further evidence that this is what they had in mind from the very beginning.” @senatemajldr

On the night of Barack Obama’s inauguration, a group of top GOP luminaries quietly gathered in a Washington steakhouse to lick their wounds and ultimately create the outline of a plan for how to deal with the incoming administration.

“The room was filled. It was a who’s who of ranking members who had at one point been committee chairmen, or in the majority, who now wondered out loud whether they were in the permanent minority,” Frank Luntz, who organized the event, told FRONTLINE.

Among them were Senate power brokers Jim DeMint, Jon Kyl and Tom Coburn, and conservative congressmen Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy and Paul Ryan.

After three hours of strategizing, they decided they needed to fight Obama on everything. The new president had no idea what the Republicans were planning.

pbs.org

…as McConnell explained, if Americans thought D.C. politicians were working together, they would credit the president, and if they thought D.C. seemed as ugly and messy as always, they would blame the president. The late Ohio s George Voinovich told me in 2012 that there wasn’t much tactical nuance in the Republican cloakroom on Obama-related matters: “If he was for it, we had to be against it.”

Sometimes I’ll post one comment, then think of something else I want to say on a different topic, but purposely wait until someone else posts a comment so I don’t have two showing back to back.

Is anyone else like this or am I just a weirdo?

Yes. You are. What you said.
Me, I’m normal.
Mother fucker is going down. Or you have to stage riots. All I ask is 3 ways out, change of clothes, 2-3 cases of wine bottles and elevation.
Elevation is everything.
Is that too much to ask?
Music. Where would I be without it? Then there is weird music. But I digress…

For the photoshoppers out there, an idea to consider (I lack the skills to do this).

Start with everyone’s favorite Trump GIF (the one from the baseball game where he is being booed).

Take the best still frame from that and make it black and white (perhaps leaving it orange would be better).

Then shop it into that iconic picture of the frenchman crying as the Nazis rolled into Paris.

Since the obvious needs to be said these days, Republicans could not possibly care less that their most recent tax cuts have not improved the economy. That was never the point.

The point was $2 trillion more in the hands of the ultra-rich.

$2 billion of which (one-tenth of one percent) would be returned to the party in the form of campaign donations, super-PAC funds, and well-paid no-show jobs for the rest of their lives for any Republican voted out of office as a result of these shenanigans.

Mitch can take a fucking seat.

I’ll agree that Bolton’s more patriotic in that fucked-up neocon way than his willingness to pledge total fealty to Trump, no matter what; you know he took the national security advisor job hoping to manipulate Trump to do his bidding, but, when that wasn’t gonna happen (and that Trump was fixing to drive his big-ass bus right over him), he punched out.

More generally, the problem that never-Trump Republicans have with Trump and his goons is their incompetence, not their criminality.

They also have a stylistic objection to the kind of petty small-ball crimes that are Trump’s natural way of expressing himself (e.g., the Trump U scam). They think covering up for shit like that is beneath them.

I have a similar story.

My Toyota was being repo’d. I liked it, it was a nice car, so we took it out for one last spin. I blasted down the back country roads here in Wisconsin and learned just how fast a maneuverable the Corolla could be.

I slowed down for a town and then started speeding up on the far side as a Trooper comes up the hill ahead, I slow but nope, he does a U turn and on come the lights. Fuck.

I pull over and he starts walking up to the car on my wifes side. He starts chuckling. When he gets up to the car he asks if I’d prefer a warning or a ticket. I say “Warning please!” We chat for a bit, he writes up a warning and we’re on our way. This is the only time I have EVER gotten off with a warning from a state trooper.

Oh, I didn’t mention - he started laughing and smiling when he got close enough to see our bumpersticker. It said that October “GM’s Alive. Bin Laden’s Dead - Obama”. ;D

I have to take care of some biz. Nice to log in.
Back in the day my dad had this 45. He liked his music as I do mine. And when I got my first band, we played this. It was all for our fun and people really didn’t know what to think. Some got it. We did a break where we would drop the lights and do a heartbeat with a voice over.
“Suture. Clamp. Suction. More suction. Suck harder. Harder! Slide guitar. SLIDE GUITAR? WHAT THE FUCK IS A SLIDE…………… Scream….Lead”
I miss that.

For precision: Eric’s father is not “the commander-in-chief of this country”. He is the Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States. IOW, he doesn’t even command the National Guard unless it’s federalized.

And since the main aim is the media dissemination of even just the idea that there is “dirt” to “uncover”, the authenticity (or even the existence) of actual dirt is a virtual irrelevancy.

Though, in the Trump Administration, it seems like all their efforts have, in fact, uncovered more dirt than the Panama Canal. But almost all on themselves…..

Parscale gets a percentage of the money spent on media; this is why he’ll be advertising in all the most expensive venues possible. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if he has a 2-minute spot during the Super Bowl.

And Trump probably gets a chunk of Parscale’s vig.

re: #357 gwangung

I think the impulse the last two elections has been for substantial, if not radical, change. Things are not working for those who aren’t in the top 10%, and there are a lot of people who want A CHANGE..and will want it even if they get it in the worst way.

Ignoring that is dangerous, particularly in the mid to long term.

I know. I just want someone who will bring the most Democrats with them to Washington. The composition of the House and Senate to me is important too.

Imagine it’s 1932, and your choices are FDR or Biden. Which would you choose?

I’m of the opinion that extraordinary times call for extraordinary people. And that isn’t Biden, or Bernie. Beto, Pete, or Koblachur are right at the edge. Harris and Warren are where I think we need to be looking.

Yep. I’m not knocking FDR but he didn’t run on making a New Deal. The New Deal came when he, about as establishment as you could get became President and saw the magnitude of the Depression.

The other thing Roosevelt was in a position to do was to go to some of the more intelligent plutocrats of that time and say: “Either we do this the easy way with some significant reforms, or you’re first up against the wall in a communist revolution that will kill us all.”

That kind of thing had some real bite to it after 3 long years of Hoover et al. doing diddly/squat about the Depression.

For the next twenty years, his opponents often criticized him as more style than substance; “Franklin D. Roosevelt,” journalist Walter Lippman wrote in 1932, “is no crusader. He is no tribune of the people. He is no enemy of entrenched privilege. He is a pleasant man who, without any important qualifications for the office, would very much like to be president.”14

I’m reminded again how young you are.

The anger at Carter… nobody doubted his good character, but he was so clearly in over his head, and super-naive.

Add in a nightly network TV show, “America Held Hostage — Day XXX” about Iran… (it eventually became Nightline, but for more than a year it was this one story, every night.

Yeah absolutely true. This is why it’s so important we choose the right person for the job. Carter was definitely in over his head but Reagan wasn’t the answer.
