This document release is going to be great, like the Clinton email releases. Every month a new document dump with more bad news for Trump to drive his polling down. Karma’s a bitch.

Yes. Shithead came in thanks to a document dump and he’s getting flushed down the toilet with another one!

SMU lost their football game, but they ran a great 2 point conversion. The quarterback and most of the team swept right, except for the left tackle, who dropped back behind the quarterback. The quarterback turns, and throws a lateral to the tackle, which is OK since he’s back. Then the big guy runs into the end zone unopposed.

Here’s my challenge to Republicans across the country: You want me to believe you’re really opposed to “socialism”? Get out tomorrow on the stump and declare that you’re immediately ending Social Security and Medicare. No cutting checks, no “refunds,” no nothing. Government grants? Ended. Federal scholarships? Finished. Federally-backed insurance (home/fire/flood/etc)? Gone. Federally-funded research/grants? Finito.

Then, when your constituents raise a stink, look’em in the eyes and be every bit as heartless as you like to play-act in front of the cameras. Tell’em that if they don’t have the means to get through retirement then that’s their fault.

Can’t get a project done without federal grants? Then it’s not worth doing.

Kids can’t survive without federal scholarships/grants? Hand them a McDonald’s application and tell them about how you worked you way up through college back when tuition for a public college was free and private colleges cost four figures a year.

People can’t rebuild after a major disaster without federally-backed insurance? Then they need to move someplace “safer.”

And so forth. Be every bit the dick you want your constituents to believe you are to “those people,” then watch as your reelection chances sink faster than the Titanic.

The only thing I’d change is “…sink faster than the Lusitania.” The RMS Lusitania sank in something like 15 minutes after it was torpedoed whereas the RMS Titanic took a leisurely two and a half hours.

Aside from that, yeah…..let’s see the GOP try to sell that message to their base, many of whom would be in the most dire of straits were it not for Federal spending. If it wasn’t for “socialism” (as they like to define it), many GOP voters would be screwed six ways from Sunday.

Because white privilege. Its so embedded, the manager probably didn’t think there was anything racist about it; he just just asking the black folk to move, barely an inconvenience, so that his white customers would be comfortable.

This is the part that sticks out to me:

He said the host explained that one of the restaurant’s regular customers seated nearby “doesn’t want black people sitting near him.”

“I’m not going to let a customer dictate where we sit,” Vahl said, and he told the host to seat the party at the table.

Vahl said a manager then approached the group shortly after speaking with the regular customer and his guest. The manager told Vahl’s group they needed to move because the tables had been reserved by another party of 18.

From it, I can infer a few things that corporate should already know or look into:

1. That “regular” is known as “Mr. _______” to staff and on first-name basis with at least one of the management.
2. Staff have been made aware that whenever that “regular” is in-house, he and his guests are to be accommodated in whatever manner possible short of fellating them in public view.
3. One or more employees have been disciplined for failure to comply with #2.
4. Yes, that includes being disciplined for actually complying with company policy.

And why?

5. That “regular” has some measure of power over the management of that location. Somebody who management is so afraid of that they’d rather risk losing a table of 18 than get in trouble with him. And I don’t mean getting the cold shoulder at Thanksgiving dinner, I mean losing their job or worse.

I wouldn’t assume any of that. Chain restaurant managers are often just young and inexperienced because the entire restaurant industry has high turnover. If they’re worried about their numbers they might simply be afraid of losing the steady business and not be savvy enough to realize how bad the PR (and possibly legal) blowback would get.

If they’re worried about their numbers they might simply be afraid of losing the steady business and not be savvy enough to realize how bad the PR (and possibly legal) blowback would get.

See, that doesn’t quite jibe with this:

After multiple managers tried to get the group to move, Vahl said the six adults decided to go to another restaurant.

The idea that two or more managers at a location are young and dumb enough not to realize that chasing off a table of 18 in favor of an irrational “regular” is bad business even without the damage of a PR nightmare is…well…it’s rather hard to buy into. If a single “regular” and his guests are “steady business,” then that location is in deep shit already. If his refusal to come back to that location endangers its “steady business,” then he has control over that manager.

85
Dr Lizardo  Nov 3, 2019 • 1:31:43am

re: #84 Targetpractice

Whoever this “regular” is, I bet it’s someone with a hell of a lot of pull. Maybe a local elected official or someone who owns a substantial local business (or maybe both) and the managers are so scared of this person, they were willing to 86 a family celebrating a birthday simply on this person’s say-so.

86
Targetpractice  Nov 3, 2019 • 1:43:52am

Decided to check for more info and found this copy of the original Facebook posting:

It includes a detail that wasn’t in the news article, namely that the two managers that talked to the birthday table each had a friendly chat with the “regulars” before coming telling the birthday party that they needed to move tables. So I owe Frank an apology, he’s probably right that this is a case of dumbass managers.

Trump says more information soon to be released about White House’s Vindman

November 2, 2019, 8:22 PM EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said Saturday that more information would be released shortly about Alexander Vindman, the U.S. official who told Congress he was concerned that Trump’s call with Ukraine’s leader threatened national security.

What’s interesting is Yahoo Comments are usually pretty “conservative”. They’re not here. Not at all. I guess the boys aren’t awake yet.

What’s scarier? The fact that the president’s people can’t trust him around a cell phone, the fact that the WH can’t keep the most embarrassing secret or the fact that apparently Trump can’t figure out that his tweets go out with a 15 min delay?

President Trump’s top aides considered asking Twitter for a 15-minute delay on his tweets early on in his presidency, the New York Times reports.

However, the aides ultimately decided against the move out of fear the practice would be leaked to the press, or that Trump himself would learn of the delay

re: #88 Yeah Sure WhatEVs

Naperville is one of the most monied western Chicago suburbs.

My parents lived in Schaumburg in the 1980s and my father told me bluntly that Chicagoland was the most segregated place he’d ever lived. Which is saying something, because he lived in Jim Crow Oklahoma and then later, in Houston. I remember countering with, “But dad, there was a black woman at the salon getting her hair done when I went with mom,” and he was completely nonplussed as that was not his experience.

So, no, this is not a surprise to me, but then again, in the age of Trump, racists everywhere feel free to openly express their bigotry, so there’s that.

The line that Nunes and other Big Agra-backed CA Repubs have sold Trump on is that firefighters in CA don’t have enough water to fight the wild fires because CA Dems (who are either “radical” environmentalists or in hoc to them) are forcing the state to just dump water coming down from the mountains into the Pacific Ocean. And that if that water were instead diverted and stored, it would be readily available whenever fire season rolls around. That Big Agra has designs for that water, namely using it for irrigation of expanded farms, is just seen as a “benefit” to the state.

Morning all!

Are we all re-set back to “Standard Time”? Though why this is “standard” when it’s actually less of the year than “Daylight Time” is a mystery.

Dumb anecdote: after spending considerable time last night going around the house carefully synchronizing and re-setting all the devices, clocks and watches, I woke up this morning and, as I usually do, logged right on to LGF* - and freaked because this notebook read “10:39am” - which I checked on time.gov and was “correct”. Whereas every other timepiece I had read “9:39am”. SATSQ: for some unknown reason, my notebook’s time setting was on Atlantic Time (UTC -4:00). not Eastern.
Since corrected, and I’m now waiting for the early dark at 5:00…

And that if that water were instead diverted and stored, it would be readily available whenever fire season rolls around. That Big Agra has designs for that water, namely using it for irrigation of expanded farms, is just seen as a “benefit” to the state.

I know: it’s when I first heard of Devin Nunes: a few years back (when CA was still in a drought) he was the GOP’s point man to try to change the state’s water allocation system - to benefit his district’s water-thirsty Big Ag interests, of course - and did so with a campaign of stale old anti-“environmentalist” BS - “Fish vs. Farmers” was the tagline, I think.
TBH, those diversion-and-storage plans aren’t complete nonsense: California’s water-resource issues are quite real. But neither Nunes (or anyone else) addressed the real issue: i.e. who was going to pay for the infrastructure costs of a vast, statewide network of dams, reservoirs and aqueducts. Hippie-punching in the media is a lot easier concept to sell.
But what any of that has to do with firefighting escapes me. What does Trump think[sic] they should do? Dot all of California’s wilderness areas with reservoirs connected to giant sprinkler systems?

Since it doesn’t seem that the management involved rose above “service manager,” I imagine that the general manager is going to be expected to deny any knowledge of these “regulars,” is going to insist that if they’d been on-site that this never would have happened, that the employees involved acted totally out of their own initiative, and promise “disciplinary action” and “retraining.” The first manager (“John”) might be fired, but it’s also possible he’ll just be put on suspension until the whole thing blows over, while the second manager (“Hannah”) is probably going to be fired outright for causing this shitshow by not correcting “John” or telling the “regulars” where to get off.

Naperville is a heavily Republican area.

When I was working there, I would often work a late shift in the labs. Coming home at 2 or 3 in the morning, I noticed a pattern. If I was driving our sedan, I never had any issues. But if I was driving my pickup, I’d get followed by Naperville cops every time.

My POC coworkers were often stopped for no reason, other than they were driving expensive vehicles and so were considered suspicious. Given that Naperville is in the “high tech corridor” and the tech companies hired many POC, I often wondered why the companies didn’t push back about the pervasive discrimination by the city government. Perhaps they did, but I never saw any evidence of a push back.

On a side note, pot will be legal in Illinois at the beginning of the year. Naperville and several of the surrounding communities voted against allowing any pot shops in their towns. Not surprising in such conservative communities, but it makes me chuckle because several neighboring cities (such as Aurora) will allow shops and will reap the tax windfall.

This is what a “Witch Hunt” looks like:

Yesterday when our brother started to tell us the “name” of the WB, my response was that was irrelevant and I didn’t care. Probably should have added that is illegal information designed to intimidate witnesses.

I so want Barr to meet John Mitchell’s fate.

I think Maddow has it right, Trump doesn’t feel that he did anything wrong because he got away with this shit last year before Ukraine’s elections and so thought everything he did was totally legal.

A more important question is why does MTP have Lowry as somebody important to quote anyway?

This is just more faux “balance”.

The Governor of California, @GavinNewsom, has done a terrible job of forest management. I told him from the first day we met that he must “clean” his forest floors

Was that first meeting when the moron kept referring to Paradise as Pleasure?

“…What binds Trump’s extremely rich and economically struggling supporters together are their cynical beliefs about the motives of others. They think everyone else is out to steal what is rightfully theirs, whether it is great wealth or a small house with a lousy job, and that “liberals” have an unrealistic view of human nature, which permits them to welcome refugees and undocumented immigrants and to help Blacks and the undeserving who only want to grab away what they have.”

Well, at least Lowry’s not saying that Trump shouldn’t be impeached/removed because he’s innocent of the charges against him….
(And, it must be noted, neither are most of the GOPers)

My own reading-between-the-lines on this is that the real message is: “we shouldn’t remove Trump because it will piss off the [X]-percent of extreme cultists who might be moved to violence” An argument founded, IMO, on what number “X” might be….

Decided to check for more info and found this copy of the original Facebook posting:

[Embedded content]

It includes a detail that wasn’t in the news article, namely that the two managers that talked to the birthday table each had a friendly chat with the “regulars” before coming telling the birthday party that they needed to move tables. So I owe Frank an apology, he’s probably right that this is a case of dumbass managers.

I don’t want to impugn an entire industry but as someone who worked in restaurants during undergrad I can say restaurant management isn’t a field known for attracting and retaining the highest level of talent, especially at the chain retail level. One of my first bosses had an active restraining order against him from the woman who was training me. That shit was awkward.
