Basically, Mulvaney is trying to revive the Kupperman case and make it about his subpoena now.

Mulvaney moves for ruling on House impeachment probe subpoena:

Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney is asking to join a pending lawsuit aimed at clarifying whether the House of Representatives can require senior advisers to President Donald Trump to testify in the ongoing impeachment probe related to Ukraine.

Mulvaney’s move in a court filing late Friday night could breathe new life into the suit filed last month by former Deputy National Security Adviser Charles Kupperman.

My guess is that he’s going to object to the House moving to moot Kupperman’s case after they withdrew his subpoena. The White House strategy has been to draw the fight out in the courts and more cases means more delay. What they don’t want is McGahn’s expedited case becoming a ruling establishing precedent that gives Bolton cover comply and testify. They’re probably worried by Bolton’s attorney making it clear all he needs is a court ruling, so they’re scrambling.

One person was killed and 10 others were sickened in a chemical accident at a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant Thursday in Burlington, Massachusetts, authorities said.

A restaurant employee was rushed to a hospital after being exposed to sodium hypochlorite, a powerful cleaning agent, and died shortly thereafter, Michael Patterson, assistant chief of the Burlington Fire Department, told reporters. The worker told firefighters that he was feeling nauseous after breathing in fumes.

nbcnews.com

Burlington, Massachusetts — A Buffalo Wild Wings worker died Thursday after he was exposed to a strong cleaning agent in Burlington, CBS Boston reports. Ten other people – workers and customers – went to a hospital as a result of the incident.

At about 5:30 p.m., firefighters responded to the restaurant after a report of a chemical reaction in the kitchen area. A male employee was suffering from nausea after breathing in fumes from a cleaning agent.

A preliminary investigation showed the trouble began when an employee applied two substances, Super 8 and Scale Kleen, to the kitchen floor while attempting to clean it, the Burlington Fire Department said Friday. The substances reacted with one another, creating toxic fumes.

For some reason (I swear I was just browsing the Settings app) the keyboard and all headings in all apps ( and some sites) have gone boldface. Still functional, of course, just annoying. I’ve spent a lot of time this morning checking the Settings, but can’t seem to find any relevant info under Display, Keyboard or Appearance. Search turned up nada for “font” Any ideas?

PS, most of my problems have developed since I updated to iOS 13. I’m guessing this is not unique to me….?

Hmmm, what to do? I’ll warm up the smoker…

It appears New Jersey turkeys are all about revenge this Thanksgiving season.

Residents of an over-55 community in New Jersey are being terrorized by a gaggle of 40 to 60 wild turkeys that are acting beyond aggressive.

Concerned residents of the Holiday City community say that the wild birds block home entryways, peck at cars and behave aggressively. Toms River officials say that animal control officers are not licensed to trap wildlife, making it difficult to try to capture the turkeys.

According to a spokesman for the Department of Environmental Protection, Fish and Game are aware of the wild turkeys but could not provide further comment.

‘People think that it is a laughing matter but it is a serious matter,’ Lijoi explained, likening the birds to ‘scary dogs.’

She added that the Turkeys have ‘broken windows in people’s houses when they fight.’

Tom turkeys - what male birds are referred to - can grow up to 24lbs and can run at 20 miles per hour.

and are delicious!

I never buy treats with rawhide. My vet, who is also a good friend from college warned me that if your dog swallows a biggish piece it is hard to digest and can cause blockages in the intestines. It isn’t super common, but common enough that she thinks it isn’t worth the risk and potential cost of surgery. For chews I generally stick to bully sticks or those himilayan yak cheese chews.

breathing concentrated chlorine fumes, yeah.

the pool chlorine levels were off the charts and they couldnt figure out why

then someone nailed it - he mopped the decks with the liquid chlorine which then just washed into the pool gutters and recirculated…

i was lucky. fortunately the twitches stopped years ago //

He would be better than almost all Republicans, and that’s not enough.

Almost all? Let’s say probably all — even William Weld. And he would be better than some Democrats in the race too (Tulsi, Bernie, Williamson, Steyer) — he’s in the Amy Klobuchar wing of the party. I really believe a public option in the ACA is a better approach and less intimidating to most Americans than the M4All — we can segue into the more comprehensive approach over time.

My vet says the same thing about not just rawhide but pigs ears too. Right now, Nylabones are a huge hit here. They come in a ton of sizes and have flavor/smell infused into some of them. My last dog and my current babyterrordemondog love them.

We go to BJ’s and buy these giant bags of chicken treats that look like candy bars. Scout loves ‘em.

The rules around here - no rawhide, no pig’s ears (they get stanky), nothing made in China. Just good old American Dog Chicken from BJ’s.

Yep, those too! We have to keep throwing them away or else it starts to look like a boneyard around here.

We get Scout the big Dino bones. He’ll chew up the little ones in a matter of minutes, and then my wife gets worried about bone fragments being swallowed.

Before Newt, there were still Republicans who cared about this country and who retained the old ideals on Civil Rights and were liberal on social issues. But once he took control, such people were gradually ostracized and found themselves without a natural political home.

You know what was pretty intimidating to most Americans in 2009? The ACA. That’s why there’s no public option today, because removing it was one of the many “compromises” made to the bill in order to avoid scaring the American people. It’s also why all those promises had to be made that nobody was going to lose their insurance or access to their doctors under the ACA…only for the insurance companies to use the very rules and regs that the American people loved to scrap older “cheap” plans.

A Rockefeller Republican is still a Republican.

Rockefeller Republicans cared about others — they gave us the Warren Court and Roe v Wade. Our country could prosper if the battle were between a Rockefeller Republican party and the modern Democratic party, with the old Southern Democrats isolated with no home. Our modern problems arose when the plutocratic party wed itself to racism and religious fundamentalism and climate change denial — when the Republican party became the party of William Buckley, Pat Buchanan, and Jerry Falwell.

I think the public option was removed because Nelson and Liberman were scared of losing their donations from Prudential and Mutual of Omaha. But people tend to be scared of change, even those that know it’s necessary. And while I think we need to shift to Medicare For All, the only way people are going to accept it is for their to be a buy in option, and see more and more people buy into it.

I wholeheartedly agree with you (especially those delicious bull pizzles)! My dog really isn’t a chewer, he will carry it around, bury it, uncover it, bury it next to his squirrel/chipmunk/Jimmy Hoffa. I will take it away after awhile. For the chewers I like to use deer antlers, and cow hooves (outside only, talk about stank).

Trump always forces his employees to sign NDA’s and has repeatedly expressed his disgust with those who “snitch”. i.e. he is a mobster writ large: anyone who tells the truth is the lowest of the low, you must pledge absolute fealty to your employer and be silent and acquiesce no matter what crimes they may commit. He hates and has always hated whistleblowers. He was a dictator his entire adult life before he was elected and suffered no consequences for his behavior. This is how he governs and the entire Republican Party and the Republican base are supportive of this approach. They want a dictator and intend to keep him in office.

Something totally math geeky. I saw something a couple of months ago about the Fibonacci series being encoded in the decimal expansion of 1/89:

1/89 = sum( k = 0 to infinity, .1^k * Fib(k) ) where Fib(0) = 0, Fib(1) = 1, and Fib(n) = Fib(n-1) + Fib(n-2).

But it hit me yesterday that since 1/89 is a rational number, it repeats. So I wrote a python program to show it:

from sys import argv

def divide( numerator, denominator, maxlen ):
if numerator == 0:
return “0”

result = “”
if numerator > denominator:
result = str( numerator // denominator )
numerator = numerator % denominator

if numerator == 0 or len( result ) >= maxlen:
return result

result += “.”

while ( numerator != 0 ) and ( len( result ) < maxlen ):
numerator *= 10

if numerator < denominator:
result += “0”
else:
d = numerator // denominator
numerator = numerator % denominator
result += str( d )
return result

def compute_fibs( count, offset = ” ” ):
n1 = 0
n2 = 1
tot = 0
res = “”

for ct in range( count ):
sn1 = str( n1 )
res += offset + ” ” * max( 0, ct + 1 - len( sn1 ) ) + sn1 + “n”
tot = tot * 10 + n1
temp = n2
n2 = n1 + n2
n1 = temp

return res, offset + ” ” + str( tot )

if __name__ == “__main__”:
le = int( argv[ 1 ] )

res, tot = compute_fibs( le )
print( res )
print( tot )
print( divide( 1, 89, le ) )

If you run the code and pass a length, it prints out three things:
1. The first set are the length Fibonacci numbers shifted as if they are being added as in the equation above, though I leave off the zeroes due to shifting.
2. The sum of these numbers.
3. The computation of 1/89 to the input length.

1/89 repeats every 44 digits. If you set the length to about 115, you will see the repeating happening twice in the sum (the last so many digits won’t match because you would need to pull in more Fibonacci numbers).

It’s just neat that that kind of embedding occurs in the numbers, especially because the repeating pattern isn’t caused by numbers that show the repetition themselves.

I know. TBH this kind of crap smearing lifelong public servants is exactly why I’m glad I did not get into the State Department. The WB like Colonel Vindman has a keen sense of right and wrong and they’re getting smeared for it. I remain so disgusted with Trump’s belief that public servants need to be personally loyal to him no matter what. It’s the authoritarian in his mindset.
