I posted this on Twitter, but I just can’t stop watching it, so here it is again. Something about it just makes you feel good, like you’re not alone.

UPDATE at 11/9/19 6:14:48 pm by Charles Johnson

Well, I posted this with the best intentions, but as usual, reality smacked me in the face. It appears there’s more to this story and it’s not good. We might be more alone than I thought.

The whale’s name is Hvaldimir is a male[1] beluga whale that fishers near Hammerfest in northern Norway noticed in April 2019 wearing a camera harness; after being freed from the harness, the whale remained in the area and appeared used to humans. Speculation that he had been trained as a Russian spy whale led to his being dubbed Hvaldimir, from Norwegian: hval (whale) and Vladimir Putin.

Hvaldimir is who he is. Now, it sounds like he needs a home because he’s not really equipped to be out on his own until he can be trained.

In the old days, Hvaldimir would be caught and eaten.

So the only reason there was no quid pro quo because “the money was released without getting the investigation”, is because Bolton released the ransom leverage.

Definitely not. The problem Trump had with bringing in Bolton is that Bolton still has a Cold War view of the world, and that view pits the US against Russia, not working with it.

Between that hillside and the Warner’s lot is a wide, deep concrete channel that might give a little protection. Unfortunately there is at least one neighborhood sort of contiguous with the hillside.

The reason these people abhor and belittle the social sciences is we have the critical tools to observe that all the stuff they push as Unquestionably True is the product of psychology and culture. To replicate they need rubes; academia provides a vaccination.

But telling: it’s just like most “defenses” of Trump’s corrupt/illegal/obstructive actions: never an argument that he didn’t do what he’s accused of, or that someone else was responsible, or (only rarely) that the charges were/are misconstrued. Just the standard lame rejoinders: blanket denial, insult the accusers, and give the distinct impression that Donald Trump is completely above the law. Or ought to be. Because MAGA…..

Not really helpful.

Bolton is allied with the neocons, who mostly do NOT get along with Trump’s people; most likely because Trump’s people are ruining the USA’s ability to project power (hard or soft).

More examples: Bill Kristol, Max Boot, Paul Wolfowitz, Jennifer Rubin …

And thanks to Trump the era of America being the “most essential nation” is gone forever. We will never recover from the way he alienated our allies and he’s completely fucked up the Middle East and Asia.

This is what happens when people ignore history which teaches that every empire eventually falls from overcommitting and overextending military power abroad while ignoring domestic needs.

We didn’t fall because we were overcommitted or overextended or that we ignored domestic needs; we fell because we did not recognize that Putin was waging asymmetric warfare and we lost. We were arrogant in thinking that because the Soviet Union lost the “Cold War”, its defeat was permanent and we failed to realize that it was developing new tools of war that we were not equipped to confront. We also did not realize that an entire political party could, on a dime, switch allegiance from our nation to an enemy power. If the Republicans had any loyalty to the United States, they would have removed Trump when they still held both houses; their continuing support of Trump shows that they have forfeited any claim of loyalty to our Constitution or our country.
