From the NYT recap by parish, it looks like most of the not-yet-reported are from Dem-leaning districts, so it look like it is going to a squeaker either way.

The rumors of chest discomfort seem more likely. Trump may be experiencing the fear that he is facing a foe that he has not figured out how to escape despite the best efforts of his acolytes and Wormtongue (aka Barr) working in his defense. The public hearings demanded by the Republicans don’t seem to be working as they planned, his friend Roger Stone after a lifetime of criminal deeds is facing prison, there is a good chance his tax returns will soon be in the hands of his enemies, and Beshear and Edwards won their gubernatorial races, making him a “loser”. This has not been a good week for him — so sudden heart problems may not be an unexpected byproduct.

Fair enough and chest discomfort is a good point. Given his age, borderline morbid obesity, poor dietary choices and lack of regular physical exercise, not to mention the increasing stress he’s now encountering, it’s probably no surprise that he’s experiencing chest pains and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he ended up having a straight-up heart attack.

Another, possibly more likely event is that he had a panic attack. All the same triggers and symptoms.

These are all strategic business/marketing decisions.

These people have a product to sell, and it is not news or information, it is advertising time. To make that product more attractive, they need to attract viewers/listeners.

Too many people labor under the illusion that the audience is the “customer” and the broadcast content is the “product”.

James 4 has some words for Trump followers:

13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. 17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

I have to disagree with the premise. That would be like saying “The great failure in going after Al Capone for his taxes is that will be his only legacy.” The choice of what to impeach Trump on is a choice of what will force a Republican controlled Senate to have to take seriously. And you definitely don’t want this to look like they’re trying to throw spaghetti at the wall.

I’m seeing cracks on the Republican side here in Red Texas. They shifting to both-siding in their discussions of politics, which might only mean that they stay home next year, but I’ll take it. The impeachment process has to pierce through the Fox veil, and to do that, it’s going to have to be a concentrated blow rather than a scattershot attack.

I actually like the more pate texture. This stuff I’m using as a base is very rough chopped. I didn’t care for that but the taste was what was really off-putting.

My fix is to fry up the gribenes with onions, add that and a good amount of salt with some schmaltz and use my stick blender instead of a FP. That will give me better control of the texture.

Had a quick chat with a couple of acquaintances who are in the military (one an officer and the other an NCO). Both have the opinion that Trump pardoning the three charged/convicted with war crimes, plus other activities where he has ignored or overruled the recommendations of the higher armed forces commands has been detrimental to morale and trust in the armed forces.

So it’s just anecdotal, but I am not surprised that Trump is damaging other important institutions.

If you properly gather and document enough anecdotes, they become data. Right?

Yes, and no. They are already data, but they are not proper data to build a reliable conclusion or model on. (Collection method, number, etc. etc.)

Of course, he’s not really doing it because our military personnel want it. He’s doing it because it’s what his base fantasizes our military personnel want.

Educating our youth in civics and American history I suspect would result in a flood of young conservatives? Probably quite the opposite.

Well, I bet they are also presuming that they can totally control and slant both the teaching texts and approach as well… in which case our system will be attempting to 1984 everything.

I guess it never occurs to these doofus ideologues that educating young Americans in “an understanding of civics and American history” might ever lead them to conclude that hysterical hyperventilating over “socialism” is just so much RW BS scare-talk?

Or do they just assume that the teaching of “civics” is going to, and ALWAYS going to follow the stock conservative template?

It’s hard to describe. Sorta a savoury, vegetable-y paste. Not really my thing but sometimes the grocery packs it in veggie trays instead of ranch, and it works well enough. Decent with carrots and olives, not so much with celery or tomatoes. I see it sold with crackers, know some people that use it as chip dip. I cannot imagine a sweet hummus, and pumpkin spice sounds as bad as every other pumpkin-flavored anything.

You know, I was just wondering if maybe the Trump staff made a decision to do an unscheduled visit for the annual physical process. In an effort to possibly prevent an opportunity for any protest crowds to have time to form. In order to avoid a clearly horrible optic of Trump protests outside Walter Reed/Bethesda

I was away from the news yesterday, so I’m just catching up on this now.

The excuses I’ve seen from the White House were saying that he went for a ‘partial physical.’

I’m not a doctor, but I’m pretty sure there ain’t no such thing.

The only way this might be true is if there are other routine screen tests that may be appropriate for his age. Colonoscopy every 10 years or similar procedures would be something you’d do separate to a standard physical, and it would be a reasonable thing to just say ‘part of the annual checkup’ rather than ‘the President got a hose up his butt for routine screening’.

Of course, I can’t remember any previous Presidents having any of the mundanities of life reported on, so there are a few possible explanations:
1) this is just a reflection of the hateful timeline we live in where Donald fucking Trump is the focus of every human’s life and worldview, and even these dull events become news;
2) this is an ordinary event that would not normally be news, but making it unannounced and sudden made it unusual enough, which is a reflection of Trumpian chaos and incompetence;
or 3) this isn’t a routine or mundane event and is another White House lie.

All of these seem equally likely.
