Video: Sacha Baron Cohen as Himself, Speaking Eloquently on Social Media, the “Greatest Propaganda Machine in History”

Culture • Views: 31,708

YouTube

Baron Cohen, whose grandmother fled Nazi Germany, is the well-deserved recipient of ADL’s International Leadership Award, which goes to exceptional individuals who combine professional success with a profound personal commitment to community involvement and to crossing borders and barriers with a message of diversity and equal opportunity.

Over 100 years ago Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis wrote: “Sunlight is said to be the best disinfectant.” Through his alter egos, many of whom represent anti-Semites, racists and neo-Nazis, Baron Cohen shines a piercing light on people’s ignorance and biases.

CL’d. Juanita Jean has an interesting post!

Louie Gohmert has three children. One of them moved to California and adopted the stage name of Bellsaint. She’s a singer/songwriter.

She just released a song called Much Like My Father.

Lyrics:

[Verse 1]
Everybody loves you
But there’s poison in the water
You get away with everything
Much like my father …..

What, you ask, does Rudy’s kid do at the White House?

‘Sports liaison.’ So…he orders the junk food and takes the calls from the teams that refuse to be seen with Trump?

Please refresh if you’re seeing Bill Barr’s mug. Thx.

Again, I feel such would be best held off until the Senate trial, where the immediacy of events would bring greater focus on the arguments those experts could bring to the proceedings.

I can understand that reasoning, but there’s absolutely no indication that the senate hearings are going to be anything other than a ludicrous circus.

The house hearings are the Dems best chance to get the facts out in an organized, cogent manner before the senate republicans get to start he-hawing, high-fiving and heaving hyperbolic manure left and right. The reasonable people need to build up as much momentum as they can now to fight back against the avalanche of idiocy were all about to endure.

I’m pretty much expecting a re-enactment of the “Not sure vs. Beef Supreme Monday Nigh Rehabilitation” match, but with senators. And I don’t really see Roberts getting in the way of that. (Video related.)

I would disagree with Sacha on one thing - I don’t think machine algorithms will ever really be able to solve this problem. The solution is to hire a lot of human moderators and give them clear guidelines. But this can’t be outsourced to some overseas support farm - moderators need to be more than just low wage employees, they need to be educated and capable of thinking, not just following arbitrary rules.

re: #14 Charles Johnson

He nailed it with this part:

On the internet, everything can appear equally legitimate. Breitbart resembles the BBC. The fictitious Protocols of the Elders of Zion look as valid as an ADL report. And the rantings of a lunatic seem as credible as the findings of a Nobel Prize winner. We have lost, it seems, a shared sense of the basic facts upon which democracy depends.

Bold is mine. I look at the internet as another form of entertainment. Nothing to get my knickers in a knot.

They know their base just doesn’t care. No matter how crooked they are, the Trump/ GOP mobsters provide tax cuts and deregulation for the fatcats, anti-intellectualism and racism for the goobers. This is why getting Trump out of office is only the beginning. The party is a threat to civilization, and it must be eradicated. The degenerate, amoral base must pay; socially, financially and, where appropriate, criminally. In 10 years, with any luck, Republicans will be as hard to find as Nazis were in Berlin in July of 1945.

I am not much of a TV critic, but I will try to share my impressions.

It is absolutely a tour de force, a visionary and brilliantly realized interpretation of one of the great works of speculative fiction.

The details are mind-boggling, including things that 99.9% of the audience would not realize are completely authentic. For instance, the VTOL transport plane that Reichsfuhrer John Smith uses is based on a real German project of the 1960s, the Dornier Do-31.

Most importantly, it takes place in another world 56 years in the past, yet it could not be more topical. Dedicated people all over the world rise up in a desperate battle against fascism. We are there now.

Colombian protests flare again as looting erupts in Bogotá

Colombians have gathered for renewed protests and sporadic looting erupted in several parts of the capital, Bogotá, a day after mass marches ended in three deaths.

After more than 250,000 people marched on Thursday to express growing discontent with president Iván Duque’s government, another large crowd gathered on Friday afternoon in Bogotá’s Bolívar Plaza.

The crowd, which included the elderly and families, was dispersed by police firing tear gas, sending protesters running up the steep, narrow streets of the historic district.

Some protesters regrouped at nearby intersections and continued chanting.

Bogotá’s mayor, who earlier banned alcohol sales, said there would be a 9pm curfew in force for the whole city with the exception of the Bosa, Kennedy and Ciudad Bolívar neighbourhoods, where the curfew was to begin at 8pm.

In the Capitol on Nov. 14, as CNN began to ask a question about the trip to Vienna, Nunes interjected and said, “I don’t talk to you in this lifetime or the next lifetime.”
“At any time,” Nunes added. “On any question.”
Asked again on Thursday about his travel to Vienna and his interactions with Shokin and Parnas, Nunes gave a similar response.
“To be perfectly clear, I don’t acknowledge any questions from you in this lifetime or the next lifetime,” Nunes said while leaving the impeachment hearing. “I don’t acknowledge any question from you ever.”

Seems perfectly innocent and not at all organized-crime-figure like.

Since things seem to be moving into the Judiciary stage, it might be best for Parnas to appear before that committee as a fact witness. And at the end of that hearing, publicly issue a subpoena for Nunes to answer the charges made in that testimony.

Ali Velshi has the guy from American Oversight on and made the point that by releasing these docs under a private FOIA request while steadfastly refusing to provide them to Congress Pompeo just cemented obstruction charges into the impeachment resolution. There’s no legal basis whatsoever to refusing to comply with a legally issued Congressional subpoena demanding access to documents while simultaneously caving to a court order mandating they be released to a mere citizen.

re: #79 b.d. (Where is Rudy?)

Nunes being implicated in all of this while serving on the committee defending Trump is horrible. It would have been bad if he was just a rando member but him leading the defense of Donald takes this to a whole nother level.

That the GOP doesn’t seem to care about this at all is telling as well.
