I have been thinking about the cybertruck some more, and I wanted to make another observation about it. One of the things we are used to in the design of current trucks, is the giant nose on the front. But it’s there to hold the engine and to position the radiator perpendicular to the flow of air. But what if you don’t need those?
It definitely has the feel of Musk controlling the design, but it would be interesting to give it to say a group of recent college grad engineers and tell them to design a new truck body since we have fewer constraints.

I’m a big fan of LL Bean flannel sheets. I use them year-round. In the summer, the top sheet can act as a blanket on warm nights.

I’ve been sleeping on LL Bean 100% cotton percale sheets for years. They’re generously sized and a good weight. They last, and as an added bonus you can buy most of them separately so when the bottom sheet wears out you can buy a new bottom sheet.
In my case, I prefer blue and don’t care if all the sheets are the same shade, so I end up with nothing that quite matches, but it works for me.
Mr. C. has never expressed an opinion about sheets at any time in our marriage, so he must like them too.

Prices have gotten to close to $5/gallon in CA but, yeah, that would drive most Americans nuts.
The fleet at the state agency I work for is a combination of hybrid gas/electric and fully electric cars. We have to travel statewide so there are days when I drive 400 miles round trip without the ability to recharge, so I feel like I need to use a gas-assisted car.
My personal car is still a gas-powered vehicle, but I’m only filling it (12 gal.) with gas every 20-22 days. The 2009 car only has 62K miles on it so I’m not planning on replacing it for a long time. I’m feeling OK about still driving a gas powered car because I’m using it so frugally.
It seems like every time I answer a questionnaire about green travel habits, no one asks the question about how close you live to the places you need to visit daily, and I wish that held as much weight as the type of car you use.

I can’t even remember when I bought these sheets, but it was before I bought the linen sheets (which I love but which are a pain in the azzzz to put on the bed and to wash) and the flannel sheets, which was about eight years ago.
So, basically, I need recommendations for cotton sheets, size full, preferably available in white, because my brother said he would buy them for me as a Christmas present. I’d rather get something I know someone here has tried and found out are just decent sheets that don’t pill. Wrinkling, I don’t care about that, I’m going to sleep on them.
I used to buy LLBean bedsheets but they just don’t last anymore so I bought sheets from both Red Land Cotton and Boll & Branch. I’m please with both of them!

We have to fill out a questionnaire every year at work regarding commuting and that’s part of the questions they ask. First they want to know how many miles your commute is, then, how long it takes, and then, what are your cross streets in the town you live in. I filled out the questionnaire before my hours changed at the beginning of the month. So it’s still 16 miles, but the commute went from 35 minutes to 55 minutes. Except that I’m not commuting right now due to the wonky knee.

I grew up in Ambridge PA. Before the 1964 Civil Rights Act was passed the town was segregated. The borough pool did not allow African Americans or Jews to go there. The JC Penney’s store did not allow African Americans or Jews to enter. But they could go to the Sears Roebuck store. Many places were “restricted” preventing Catholics, Jews and African Americans from entering. The school system was segregated as much as possible.
By the way our Congressman at the time, Frank Clark, was only one of two Northern Democrats who voted against the Civil Rights Act saying it went too far…

You can often get good prices on sheets at Home Goods, At Home, or even Marshalls or Burlington.
Name brands like Ralph Lauren, etc., that would cost significantly more in a department store or even Target/Walmart and with coupons.
We have bought sheets from Ikea too, and those have worn quite well but not everyone has access to Ikea stores near them (though everything can be gotten via the interwebs).

A thought on higher fuel prices.
A lot of non-urban folks heat their houses with fuel oil. Tripling the cost of fuel would raise their heating costs thousands of dollars a year. Replacing the heating system would also cost thousands of dollars.
I wonder if rural infrastructure and grid could sustain the electricity demands for all electric heating. And I wonder if a lot of the older housing stock could also manage it without extensive renovation beyond just furnace replacement.
As an aside, my ex’s parents who lived in rural Virginia had a wood fired boiler heating system.

You have my sympathy. I hope that the floor and ceiling are not badly damaged. Water can be quite destructive.
Years ago, I had water pooling around the base of the toilet bowl. So I pulled the toilet and replaced the wax seal. When it did not stop water pooling I figured it was above my paygrade so I called a plumber.
He also pulled the bowl looked at the wax seal and found it fine. Looking further, we concluded that the water was coming from condensation around the toilet water reservoir. I forget what was done to fix that, but I have not had problems since.
And, I agree, draining a toilet bowl is not a ‘joyful’ experience.
And the Washington Post alerts me of another shooting in California…

A bit of both I think. I put all the cat toys back into a box every week or two. And the cats fish them out on their own and play with them when I am not there - and some toys are favored over others.
And they also like getting me to go to certain places in the apartment and interact with them using some of the toys, or activities such as “move the stick under the throw rug so that I may stalk it”.

Seems you don’t get around much, Soledad. A 3mil stake at the beginning of a 32 year period, in CALIFORNIA, says a great deal about that 150mil.
It turns out to be about 13% per year return on average if you don’t invest anything else but don’t take anything out of that. I’m assuming they were able to put even more into it as it went on.
