In Which Donald Trump Blatantly Lies About an Interview With Ukraine’s President

Politics • Views: 22,801

This morning our so-called president woke up and struggled into the bathroom to sit on his solid gold toilet and tweet this.

Breaking news! Donald Trump is a blatant liar!

Because here’s the interview to which he’s referring, in TIME. Zelensky is much better at hedging his words than Trump, and he’s very aware of the power differential between Ukraine and the United States, but he says enough to make it clear that he’s not absolving Trump or saying he “did nothing wrong.”

This is how the interview ends, and it’s very different from Trump’s distorted lie.

TIME: When did you first sense that there was a connection between Trump’s decision to block military aid to Ukraine this summer and the two investigations that Trump and his allies were asking for? Can you clarify this issue of the quid pro quo?

Zelensky: Look, I never talked to the President from the position of a quid pro quo. That’s not my thing. … I don’t want us to look like beggars. But you have to understand. We’re at war. If you’re our strategic partner, then you can’t go blocking anything for us. I think that’s just about fairness. It’s not about a quid pro quo. It just goes without saying.

Breaking news: Donald Trump is a con man, and a liar, and a lawless criminal president.

trump’s breaking news is neither ”breaking’ nor is it ‘news’

“Congressman Hunter has shown a blatant disregard for the law and engaged in one of the most egregious congressional spending scandals we have ever seen,” said Jordan Libowitz, communications director for the left-leaning advocacy group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington or CREW. “We are glad to see Congressman Hunter will finally face the consequences of his actions. Given that he will now be a convicted criminal for abusing his office, Congressman Hunter must resign immediately.”

Apparently ethics and following the law is a left-leaning thing.

“It’s important not to have a public trial for three reasons, and those three reasons are my kids,” Hunter told KUSI in an interview aired just minutes after the court notice.

Translation: “There was no way I was going to avoid this going to trial, so I’m knuckling under while there’s still a deal on the table.”

Hunter, who will turn 43 on Saturday, and his wife were charged in August 2018 with 60 criminal counts related to their use of Hunter’s campaign contributions and each faced decades in prison if convicted on all charges.

Sixty criminal counts. SIXTY.

A very old good boy/girl discovered in Russia:

Russian scientists on Monday showed off a prehistoric puppy, believed to be 18,000 years old, found in permafrost in the country’s Far East.

Discovered because of climate change. And so old that two rounds of genome sequencing can’t tell if it’s a dog or a wolf.

I think that the shitgibbon may actual play (relatively) nice. He’s got a reduction in US funding to NATO (which ended up being a relatively minor rejiggering of national contributions, here). He’s got Space as an Operational Domain (which is mostly a bureaucratic reshuffling of responsibilities for now, not SPACE MARINES). And Mark Fucking Penn is trying to make him play nice as some sort of impeachment rehabilitation strategy.

The fun will probably be in the Europeans lining up to kick Macron in the balls for going off on his little Gallic power play without sharing it with the class first, and everyone trying to figure out whether Erdogan is really pitching a sulk about the Kurds or just wants something else. Good times.

Of course, the shitgibbon could end up having a bad colon day and all bets are off.

At that time, was there a clear divide between dogs and wolves? It would seem that the two species had not really separated then. After all, even today, they can interbreed and produce fertile offspring.

at least eight states now have laws mandating active shooter drills in schools. But there’s little research yet that shows that those drills are effective. Meanwhile, a new comprehensive report from the U.S. Secret Service underlines the agency’s previous findings that there is one safety approach that does work: threat assessment, as part of a comprehensive program of social and emotional support for students.

In the past, Trump’s dumbasses were his fellow millionaire morons stupid enough to loan him money in the first place, eager to ingratiate themselves into the Trump NYC party scene.

This time however the dumbasses will be the American middle class, particularly those with savings as overflowing money supply means their hard-earned dollars mathematically evaporate. Their dumbassery is not to get into Trump’s inner circle of fellow jerk-offs, but to advance an overall white supremacist agenda.

And this is why I think Beto should be considered for VP/Ambassador to Texas, he’s taking his Senate and Presidential run resources to try to flip the Texas House: dailykos.com.

Last year 17 Texas State House Republicans won their election by less than 10 points. We can flip these seats by reaching un-registered Democrats.

There are almost 90,000 people in these 17 target districts who have voted Democrat in the past but aren’t registered to vote at their current address.

We only have to win nine of these seats for Democrats to have a majority in the Texas legislature. Victories in these districts will mean an end to racist gerrymandering, and a chance to address gun violence, reproductive rights, Medicaid expansion, criminal justice and climate change in Texas.

Your donation will be used to send them pre-filled voter registration forms with stamped return envelopes.

Flip the Texas House is an organization that came out of our 2018 Senate campaign, “Beto Ambassadors” who are committed to ensuring that Texas lives up to its potential at this defining moment of truth. I couldn’t be more proud of what they’re doing.

Their work will also be very positive for Congressional races, helping us to hold two newly won seats and picking up more — 6 seats were won by Republicans with margins under 5%.

And these newly registered Democrats will help us make Texas competitive for our Presidential nominee.

In 2018, I carried nine of the 17 districts now represented by Republicans. So we know that we can do this.

We just need your help to make sure that we make the most of this opportunity.

So was this the next rung on the judicial ladder before taking it to SCOTUS?

I know the WH is trying to spin this out ALAP - but I hadn’t expected a ruling this quickly.

Most likely this was in front of the trial judge who previously ruled for the committee. Post-judgment stay pending appeal, fairly common. Once they file their notice of appeal, they can seek a stay from the Court of Appeal. My guess is that the trial court judge is confident that (s)he will be upheld on appeal. Then again, a stay by the Court of Appeal doesn’t necessarily mean the panel will be inclined to reverse. This is sort of a “horse out of the barn” scenario where if McGahn is compelled to testify it would likely fall into “capable of repetition yet evading review” that would allow the appellate courts to rule even if the testimony is taken in this case.

Considering that most of those nations joined NATO before joining the EU, NATO probably played a pretty fucking big role.

Yes, let’s make sure not to give an ally needed weapons when they are at war with a common adversary who has already invaded their territory. Especially when that aid include anti-tank arms that would actually slow/stop an invasion.

OT, but. All summer walking the dog through black flies, mosquitos, ticks, and her endless need to sniff every damn twig I longed for the first frost and snow that would cover the twigs. Today after 8” of snow I remembered why this is the season of pain. Walking the excited dog in the dark over just-plowed roads that are slick; a dog with a nose that sees through the snow to the smells below (so now I can’t see what she’s trying to eat); shoveling out two cars knowing that a second storm is approaching.

Last year I fell several times on walks as the dog pulled too hard. So my wife bought strap-on cleats at Ocean State Job Lots. Not only did the dog pull by down once on an icy spot, I had lost half the cleats by the time we got back. Better to spend $20 on quality than $5 at Ocean City, of course.

So I got a good pair and will try them out tonight on our last walk of the day. I’m looking forward to many fewer falls. I’m working on better walking habits for her, too. Nothing I can do about her scent drive, though.

From the Post link:

Attorney General William P. Barr has told associates he disagrees with the Justice Department’s inspector general on one of the key findings in an upcoming report — that the FBI had enough information in July 2016 to justify launching an investigation into members of the Trump campaign, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Justice Department’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, is due to release his long-awaited findings in a week, but behind the scenes at the Justice Department, disagreement has surfaced about one of Horowitz’s central conclusions on the origins of the Russia investigation. The discord could be the prelude to a major fissure within federal law enforcement on the controversial question of investigating a presidential campaign.

Barr has not been swayed by Horowitz’s rationale for concluding the FBI had sufficient basis to open an investigation on July 31, 2016, these people said.

Did we expect that crook to say anything else?

Good cleats are great.

A few years ago after a winter meeting at Gooseberry Falls State Park on the north shore of Lake Superior, the meeting leader invited us all to go for a walk on the frozen falls. With cleats, it was a fun walk and there were places that we could sneak behind the ice.

We were in between the upper and lower falls. There was a big red blotch on the ice at the base of the upper falls. We found out that someone trying to walk on the ice above the falls had lost their footing and couldn’t stop themselves as they slid down the ice and over the falls. They had to be helicoptered off to the hospital. I can just imagine how horrifying it felt to lose your footing and realize that you couldn’t stop it from happening, like a slow motion car crash.

Yes — he thinks he’s entitled because he’s rich BUT, unlike the other 3 billionaires, he does have real world governing experience — certainly more serious experience than Buttigieg. He didn’t decide that his initial attempt to be elected to office was a run for the presidency, without any prior public service.

Presidents COULD operate more effectively if they didn’t have Congress or the courts to deal with. But as much as I would like some things to happen faster, I’m not going to throw away our checks and balances to get there.

And you know they’re only doing this because they’re mad that Trump isn’t getting any of his shitty promises done. If Trump had a sane and rational agenda and was getting things accomplished, working with Congress instead of against them, it wouldn’t be a thing.

“Subspecies” is the closest biology gets to “race”. It’s mostly bollocks.

(I’m in a bad mood, please ignore if you want to).

And warming doesn’t necessarily mean heating up when you’re using the terms scientifically. There’s a reason they do that. Next thing you know you’ll want to stop using the term “collie”.

re: #67 Barefoot Grin

Turley? I see him presented as a liberal law professor, but when I hear him on NPR he comes off as mini-Dersh.

[Embedded content]

He’s a mini Dersh. He was the lawyer for the Utah polygamist family (you know, the ones on TV) that claimed Utah County was being mean to them and they had to move to Las Vegas. Well, he fronted a case to try and declare Utah’s anti-polygamy law unconstitutional, but he forgot (or deliberately ignored) that you need a case in controversy. In this instance, it would require an arrest for practicing polygamy, which never happened. The 10th Circuit drop kicked the case for that reason.

I used to have some respect for the guy, but when he did that, when he is a LAW PROFESSOR and should KNOW BETTER, that just made me think he was a jackass. More recent pro-Trump statements have not changed my mind.

Yes — he thinks he’s entitled because he’s rich BUT, unlike the other 3 billionaires, he does have real world governing experience — certainly more serious experience than Buttigieg. He didn’t decide that his initial attempt to be elected to office was a run for the presidency, without any prior public service.

Both Bloomberg and Pete were mayors.

The amazing thing about Trump is that he really brings out the inner asshole of his supporters!

Since those were never well camouflaged that’s not surprising.

Aren’t “Swiss”, “Gruyere” and “Pecorino” cheeses, respectively (duh!!!) Swiss, Swiss, and Italian (rather than French)?

Or is “weird foreign cheese” enough of a “definition” for the Trump regime….?

I’d assume that they can be made anywhere, regardless of the country or region for which they are best known. That being said, it seems like it’d be more effective if they targeted actual French cheeses.

He couldn’t have served again even if he wanted to. It would’ve been highly unlikely that the Senate would have granted him another extension after he was granted a two-year extension at Obama’s request.

But he is like Trump in that he’s an egotistical ass who thinks he deserves to be president just because he’s rich. Fuck him with the same pitchfork used on Trump.

Not “just because he’s rich”.

Bloomberg was a successful 12-year mayor of a city that contains 13 congressional districts. A total population over 8 million. There’s 35 States that have less than that.
