I work what is supposed to be a full time job.

I have 56 hours on the paycheck I’ll be getting tomorrow.

I went to a meeting for heating assistance today and one of the first questions on looking at my check was “are you getting food stamps”

My reply was that what little I’d get wasn’t worth the hassles and hoops they put in the way. I use the food pantries in town every month instead.

GOP delenda est.

I made my first chicken feet stock in our instapot last week or so. Antagonizing my wife, waving a chicken foot at her while making it. She was dubious. Yesterday, she made her wild rice with the stock and it turned out very delicious. She is a skeptic no longer.

Republicans need to remember that hungry people voted FDR four times, and Truman once. And probably if it weren’t for the Korean war, he might have actually gotten a second term. And even then Eisenhower pretty much had to promise he would lay off the FDR/Truman reforms to win his terms.

It took inflation, a hostage crisis in Iran to get Republicans back in some kind of power. Three quarters of a million can turn a lot of elections-and add in friends and family (yes we have people) and those 40 seats the Republicans lost last time look like a low.

If you are receiving assistance of any kind, remember the Motor-Voter law, and register and promise to vote nothing but Democrat for anything. Even the cheesiest of Democrats want people to get help. And this time, tune out the voices that say “we can’t pay for it”. They can pay for Donald’s golf trips, an extra bag of groceries is no stretch for them. Let Melania pay for her own botox and boobs (probably already does, but you get the idea)

CNN) An active shooter situation is unfolding at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office told CNN Friday morning.
“I can confirm there is an active shooter on NAS Pensacola and it’s going on right now,” said Amber Southard, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.
The gates to the station have been “secured,” according to a post on the station’s Facebook page.
“More information will be provided as it becomes available,” the post said.

In a brief phone call, dispatch at the Naval Air Station told CNN, “We have an active situation right now.” The line was disconnected.

That was pretty much the company’s response to the backlash of the ad.

We constantly hear from our members how their lives have been meaningfully and positively impacted after purchasing or being gifted a Peloton Bike or Tread, often in ways that surprise them. Our holiday spot was created to celebrate that fitness and wellness journey. While we’re disappointed in how some have misinterpreted this commercial, we are encouraged by — and grateful for — the outpouring of support we’ve received from those who understand what we were trying to communicate.

Marc Lepine, the killer, was an Incel before anyone even knew the term:

Lépine wanted a girlfriend, but was generally ill at ease around women. He tended to boss women around and show off his knowledge in front of them. He spoke out to men about his dislike of feminists, career women and women in traditionally male occupations, such as the police force, stating that women should remain in the home, caring for their families.Lépine applied again to the École Polytechnique in 1989; however his application was rejected as he lacked required courses. In March 1989 he abandoned the course in computer programming, though he performed well in the CEGEP course, obtaining 100% in his final exam. In April 1989 he met with a university admissions officer, and complained about how women were taking over the job market from men

The fact that you would openly judge the president without due process of law shows your partisan bias. In addition, it is impossible to evaluate the President shooting someone on live TV when we still don’t know who called the police and who that person voted for.

And the victim had a number of parking violations and an unpaid dogcatcher’s fine…

While bears are a fairly normal sight at the dump, one acting like a tired dad on a Sunday night is definitely not as common.

Today is the 50th anniversary of the ill-fated Altamont Free Festival, which drove a stake through the heart of the Hippie movement with the murder of a concert goer at the hands of the Hell’s Angels.

Rolling Stone’s cover story in the aftermath is graphic and pretty horrific, but a good read.

The Hippie Movement was also killed by Operation Intercept and Nixon cracking down on groups like the SDS and Black Panthers.

When the flow of cheap marijuana started to dry up, dealers went over to heroin and other chemicals which were easier to smuggle and offered a bigger profit margin.

That was when the scene started overflowing with addicts and other people with serious mental, physical and social issues.

That is a theme that is brushed on in Thomas Pynchon’s Inherent Vice, which is also about the demise of the Hippie scene in Southern California.

Taylor’s full quote is worth citing:

“I was really scared,” he said. “I was frightened for all of us, particularly for Mick because he had to be very careful what he said all the time, very careful. He had to pick and choose his words. When you read about a thing this size — like 300,000 people, four people born, four people killed — you don’t think of it as a violent thing. But that’s all I saw: violence all the time. I’ve always heard about the incredible violence in America, but I’d never actually seen it. They’re so used to it over there, it’s a commonplace thing. They find it easier to accept. I’ve just never seen anything like that before”.

Scary! Opinion: Trump Is the Founders’ Worst Nightmare
Once in the Oval Office, a demagogue can easily stay there.
By Bob Bauer
Mr. Bauer served as a White House counsel under President Barack Obama.

As the self-proclaimed embodiment of the American popular will, the demagogue portrays impeachment deliberations as necessarily a threat to democracy, a facade for powerful interests arrayed against the people that only he represents. Critics and congressional opponents are traitors. Norms and standing institutional interests are fraudulent.

President Trump has made full use of the demagogic playbook. He has refused all cooperation with the House. He lies repeatedly about the facts, holds public rallies to spread these falsehoods and attacks the credibility, motives and even patriotism of witnesses. His mode of “argument” is purely assaultive. This is the crux of the Trump defense, and not an argument built on facts in support of a constitutional theory of the case.

A good comment from that opinion piece:

Michael Todd
South Burlington, VTDec. 2
Times Pick
Kurt Godel, the greatest logician of the 20th century, while
studying for his U.S. citizenship hearing, found a disturbing
fact: On December 5, 1947, Einstein and Morgenstern accompanied Gödel to his U.S. citizenship exam, where they acted as witnesses. Gödel had confided in them that he had discovered an inconsistency in the U.S. Constitution that could allow the U.S. to become a dictatorship. Einstein and Morgenstern were concerned that their friend’s unpredictable behavior might jeopardize his application. The judge turned out to be Phillip Forman, who knew Einstein and had administered the oath at Einstein’s own citizenship hearing. Everything went smoothly until Forman happened to ask Gödel if he thought a dictatorship like the Nazi regime could happen in the U.S. Gödel then started to explain his discovery to Forman. Forman understood what was going on, cut Gödel off, and moved the hearing on to other questions and a routine conclusion.

Unfortunately, the judge cut Godel off and the flaw in the constitution was not pursued.

It’s only a matter of time before one or more of the following happen:

1. Gets a gig as a Fox “news” paid consultant (aka wingnut welfare)
2. Writes a book (aka wingnut welfare)
3. Starts a radio program/podcast/website (aka wingnut welfare)
4. Works for the GOP, RNC, or White House (aka wingnut welfare)

The Ollie North trajectory.

Because the KKK was all about culture and heritage

The Greatful Dead come out of it looking pretty bad too. They’re the ones who initially recommended the Angels for security, and then they decided to not play, leaving the audience to simmer for a couple of hours without music.

Apparently one of the fatal decisions was to hire the highly violent Fresno Angels instead of the more musician-friendly San Francisco Angels.

And then the Dead refused to comment on the record about it, even to their home town champion music publication.

And I’m sitting here thinking about all the promoters, music acts and other involved parties, and how their reps have been rehabbed over the course of time.

Time heals all wounds, indeed. Bill Graham was the only one who was smart enough to stay out of it.

Yeah session musicians are interesting. They’re sort of like character actors. They’re sort of the glue that helps make a project work.

All those brilliant Beach Boys singles would never have gotten off the ground had it not been for the Wrecking Crew.

That was also what I grew up with. Also check out the documentary on the Wrecking Crew, that stable of studio musicians who played on nearly every one of my favorite songs as kid for the Monkees, Sonny & Cher, the Byrds, the Beach Boys, Nancy Sinatra, the Association, Neil Diamond, etc., the sound of 60’s AM radio…

Used to live next door to a house full of studio musicians back in the 90s. Amazing guys - any one of them had more technical chops that the superstars they sat in for, but never could quite break through on their own.

Deeply introverted, or raging assholes, although the latter sadly doesn’t seem to disqualify many musicians from getting acclaim.

The exception being the guys in Toto, although they took their share of crap for being exceptionally good at what they did.

As in most things, it’s about finishing. A lot of people have ideas for books. Stephen King finishes. Lots of people can play instruments. A few write songs, put them together, and do all the work such as performing and touring and promoting.

Yeah, the “soft skills” of being able to convince people to follow your lead, or to coexist in a group, sharing a common purpose, are grossly underestimated.

Even an absolute musical genius like Prince, who could be a domineering dictator, would have his moments when he could be warm, loving and giving.

Yes, and we notice what Party they are all from……

Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll find out (since this Act, like most House bills this session is doomed to interment in the legislative mausoleum that is Mitch McConnell’s inbox) - but I wonder if HR4 was crafted to get around CJ Roberts’ cavils about the 1965 VRA that led him to strike down (what I think was most of it).
