The UK has one last chance to save itself, if a coalition of parties supporting a referendum on Brexit can form a majority after the upcoming election. uk.news.yahoo.com

Trump is going to lose the African-American vote overwhelmingly, of course. But if Trump can convince a sliver of African-American men that he deserves some credit for bring black unemployment down so that he doesn’t lose the African-American vote as badly as the GOP usually does, that could help him in a close election.

Question for anyone reading who might have insight into law and/or condominium issues:

Would damage from a leaky fire sprinkler pipe be the responsibility of the home owners association?

Unfortunately, I am not asking hypothetically or for a friend. :(

I’m also NAL, but as a former & present condo-owner, I would recommend that you have a real one check out the fine print in the condo/HOA laws/bylaws/rules. Here in NYC, frex, common “utilities” - which a building fire-sprinkler system would be classified as - are the responsibility of the condo corp/board: although your own plumbing (bathroom faucets or sink drains, etc.) is your own liability to deal with.

Usually the rule is based on “the wall”: if it’s on your side of wall (i.e. IN your unit), it’s your problem: if it’s on the other side of the wall, it’s the “building’s” problem. Though rules/laws vary from place to place: hence check it out…

Cute article about the series The Brady Bunch.

Competition was fierce to play parents Mike, an architect, and Carol, a stay-at-home mom with creative pursuits. One actress vying for the matriarch role sent Schwartz nude photos. Another, when Schwartz went to shake her hand, instead grabbed his crotch.

Neither got the part. It went to Florence Henderson after Shirley Jones passed on the role.

See, I read this scenario as “Trump replaces Pence with Haley on the 2020 Republican ticket”, since even if the Admin might somehow persuade the Veep to resign, they would still have to nominate a replacement - and have them approved by both Houses of Congress. Not really likely, IMO.
However, if Trump was trying to attract ANY additional 2020 voters beyond the red-hat mouthbreather “base”, Nikki might be a “rational” choice, as you outline in 3 above: still “insane” IMO, but rational….

replacing pence would be admitting a mistake

while he’s clearly made a lot of hiring mistakes - just look at the firings, scandals and convictions, it would be hard to ‘explain’ jettisoning pence

Update: a board member of our HOA gave our handyman approval to open up the wall to confirm the fire sprinkler pipe is leaking. This makes me feel like the association is likely accepting responsibility without a tussle, but will certainly be ready to get a lawyer involved if necessary.

There is a LOT of drywall that is going to be replaced in the near future, but damage is also localized enough for me to feel fortunate this wasn’t worse. It was also right over a closet door, and contents of said closet are all high and dry. Of course, emptying the thing I see there was virtually nothing of serious value in there anyway!

OT, but I just finished the two-part WaPo podcast on Altamont. It was really something to hear one guy say, ‘I knew shit was out of control, so I left while the Stones were playing; I was running up the hill and I tripped; and as I was on the ground I could hear “Gimme Shelter” welling up, and I had an experience I can’t describe: in that situation where I was, it may be the best version of the best song ever written.’*

re: #89 Decatur Deb

Boris has that old British spirit, the spirit that kept stuffing the lesser sorts into the trenches of Gallipoli.

Yeah, that was the bad side. Then you had Tolkien creating Samwise out of the men he’d seen at the Somme. It’s never simple, is it?

And remember:

1. She’s a Pence person
2. She spent (or tried to) more than $2 million on “image consultants”
3. She was giving a more or less political speech attacking “Medicare for All”

And who the fuck travels with all of their jewelry? And furthermore, who would spend $5,000+ for a piece of Ivanka Trump crap?

Funny you should mention that—her first claim was $20,000 but she then upped it to more than $40k, including $300+ for moisturizer. Uh huh.

I never thought I’d hear an upbeat version of Jackson Browne’s “The Pretender”. It was a song that, for me, explicated the ills of the mid-70’s shit hole that America had become. Yet they find something different in it. Not sure it’s more or less right but it _IS_ and that’s no little thing.

OT I just had one of the weirdest exchanges with amazon. They are telling me that my package that was delivered today (at 100PM) is running late. I had to repeat my information five times to the person on the other end that it is the USPS that is running late and not the packages.

Doesn’t do it for me. Browne’s original is so iconic, and being a fav of mine for so many years, I just can’t listen to a cover and not hear him. The song just doesn’t need a rework.

I can understand that. It’s not where I am but I know what you mean.
