A Devastating Report From the Washington Post: Confidential Documents Reveal US Officials Misled the Public About the War in Afghanistan

US News • Views: 32,759

This is a real kick in the gut, an echo of the bad old days of the Pentagon Papers, as the Washington Post reports that US officials misled the public about the war in Afghanistan.

They’ve published all the documents online; I haven’t even started looking at it yet, but in a way I already know what they reveal, because this isn’t the first time.

A confidential trove of government documents obtained by The Washington Post reveals that senior U.S. officials failed to tell the truth about the war in Afghanistan throughout the 18-year campaign, making rosy pronouncements they knew to be false and hiding unmistakable evidence the war had become unwinnable.

Eighteen years, a trillion dollars, and 2300 lives, all wasted.

Geez its late in life for a Vietnam flashback like this. Apparently we never learn truth saves lives. Lies cost immensely.

Yeah about the millions of eggs that a woman’s ovaries contain, only one or two (or 9 if you’re me) will actually be used.

This was basically:

“How do I tell a rich white woman to contribute to the cause of out-breeding brown people and Muslims and not sound like the racist asshole I really am? I got it!”

Either his “advisors” hid it or as you said he dropped it in the toilet.

The trillion dollars (at least) that was lit on fire in Afghanistan could’ve helped a lot of “working poor” get health insurance, help pay for their kids’ college tuition(s), and built some new schools. But socialism.

How come you did not come up with that statement yesterday? I had a dozen eggs in a carton yesterday.

I put “working poor” in quotations because this country has a $20T a year economy and we have “working poor.” Disgraceful.

Or invest in all the infrastructure, 20th century and 21st century that we need to compete.
Or put money into the renewable, carbon-neutral energy, to save the planet.
Or even tax cuts for the poorest Americans that the Republicans would theoretically* drool over.

There’s lots that the money spent to pay off crony capitalists who make products which are used to fight a war that drives more people to attack America and our interests, driving more money to those same crony capitalists.

*Hint, they don’t, and the Trump tax hikes prove it.

I waded into the swamp to look at freeper responses to this, since I think it may give a clue to where the Trump gang will go with it.

It goes without saying that Democrats and RINOs are to blame but opinions diverge from there. Some blame our failure to extend the war to Iran or Islam in general, with several recommendations that we nuke at least Afghanistan itself.
Others take a more isolationist approach and suggest that an absolute prohibition on Muslim immigration would have prevented 9-11 and the rest of the world could be left to rot. Presumably large scale investors would be excepted, since they are not likely to be terrorists or even good Muslims and a little terrorism is a small price to pay for all that recycled oil loot.
Others drag the military profession itself, for which they blame both RINO Bush and commie Obama, since both promoted “political” generals rather than Pattonesque nuke slingers. The last may be most indicative of the final Trump approach since it would be helpful to the Republican goal of privatizing the war along the lines of Erik Prince’s mercenary proposals. It would also be a giant step forward in meeting Putin’s goal of eliminating the the threat from the regular US military.

Regarding the OP, it’s probably also in the WaPo reporting, but I grow very tired of US media reporting only the US dead/injured in these wars. The total dead is at least 30x higher than that 2300 figure.

On the other hand, most/all of that $ 1 trillion really is wasted US resources.

Time to start naming every individual involved.

“It has never been a CBP practice to administer vaccines and this not a new policy,” the official statement read in part. “Individuals in CBP custody should generally not be held for longer than 72 hours in either CBP hold rooms or holding facilities. … As a law enforcement agency, and due to the short-term nature of CBP holding and other logistical challenges, operating a vaccine program is not feasible.”

This is a lie.
