NO SMOCKING GUN!  Dec 12, 2019 • 5:23:11pm

I’m hoping against hope that the UK exit polls didn’t catch a big youth vote in favor of remain. But England is overwhelmingly white, which seems to equate to stupidity.

Meanwhile, at the hearing, the staffers behind the members are beginning to look like zombies(I know how they feel).

I wrote a poem today:

And these children that you spit on
as they try to change their worlds
are immune to your consultations
They’re quite aware of what they’re going through….

Disclaimer: I didn’t, you know, actually write this. I only turned it into a poem. Ok, I realize that lyrics are a kind of poem, but they’re not really that on the internet, I think.

Yes! We didn’t have a color tv until well into the 1970s. Growing up, we had needle-nose pliers on top of the tv.

Our first TV was an 18-inch b&w wedding present. Didn’t watch much the first 6 months.

My grandmother had rabbit ears on her TV until well into my teen years. My other grandmother, when she died in 2006, still had a rotary phone - which the phone company refused to let us keep, because she was leasing it.

Not sure I’d interpret it that way. Corbyn certainly didn’t campaign against Brexit, as I understand it, and is apparently one of the least-liked figures in British politics, which is saying something because that includes Boris Johnson.

I mean, I understand that a vote for Labor wasn’t necessarily a vote against Brexit, but a vote for the Tories was explicitly one for Brexit. That’s the lynchpin of what they went in on. And in their system, they’d at least have other options to vote for to stand against Brexit.

This is it, right here. They might not object strenuously to Trump’s promise of being dictator for life, but they’d never let it actually happen - as long as, at the end of the day, Republicans are still holding the reins of power. A Trump presidency that goes too long will threaten that. If we could make them see that, that may be the only way to get them to vote for impeachment.

Wisconsin was a victim of the rust-belt era, when the old industrial Great Lakes region could not compete, first with Japan, then Korea, then China.

A lot of resentment among the working folk, the ones in unions who became fertile ground for Reagan-esque resentment, that the GOP has fostered for 40 years.

Add to that the historic progressivism in the upper midwest was connected to Christianity, with the latter undergoing the bifurcation into modernists (universalists) and fundamentalists, the old roots of progressivism became victim in the Worldview wars of the 20th century.

We had some lead icicles from when I was a kid that we got out and used for several years after our own kids were grown until they totally fell apart. (Those things were fragile) The remaining ones went to the county’s hazardous waste program.
