Samantha Bee Analyzes: Donald Trump and the Articles of Impeachment

Politics • Views: 21,834

Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats have unveiled two articles of impeachment against the president. This is going to be a marathon, not a sprint, so no matter how boring these hearings may be, don’t let the GOP yell you to sleep. Stay mad and stay vigilant and stay away from Devin Nunes if you see him on the street. The man is unhinged.

Classic misdirection / con man trick. Talk all big about a huge change you are going to make, get people fired up for it, bilk them for as much money as you can and then move on to the next scam, completely forgetting about the first one. Trump fundraises off of EVERY SINGLE OUTRAGE. Conning people is really the only thing he knows how to do and half the time he fucking sucks at that, too!

He’s perfectly willing to go back and play the hits again, though:

If elected president, “Ivanka, Don, Eric and my family will start it up” again after the lawsuit is over, Trump told supporters after his primary rout Tuesday night. “We have a lot of great people who want to get back into Trump University.”

….snip……

Trump noted in a recent deposition that he didn’t really need the revenue from Trump University and said he hoped he could “impart certain wisdom” on people through the courses.

“I mean, this was a very important thing for me,” Trump said. “It wasn’t a big monetary thing, the Trump, the school. But it was very important.”

On the last thread we had a discussion going about Clint Eastwoods new movie “Richard Jewell”.

I can’t help but notice he conveniently chose a controversy in which two of the major players have been dead for over ten years and thus they are not able to defend their depiction or provide more information about the events in question in any way.

In February, 2014, after months of protests, Yanukovych and many of his allies in the government fled Ukraine for Russia. Before they left, they squirrelled away tens of billions of dollars in government funds in a network of private bank accounts around the world. The country was virtually bankrupt. Activists and journalists descended on Yanukovych’s garish residence. Searching for clues to where his money was hidden, they retrieved thousands of documents. Some of them had been dumped in a nearby reservoir and were hand-dried by dozens of volunteers and stored in the residence’s sauna. In a show of support, the U.S. sent a delegation of investigators and analysts, which included F.B.I. agents. It became clear that tracking down the country’s wealth would take years and that Ukrainian officials were ill-equipped for the task.
newyorker.com

This is part of why the Republicans support Russian-influenced politicians like Yanukovych, and are attacking the FBI.

In the earlier thread there was a discussion about the possibility of the Russians turning on Trump and the GOP. Veteran GOP shill Douglas Mackinnon may have been trying to prepare the base for this possibility when he warned recently that Trump might actually be removed by the Senate.
thehill.com
MacKinnon, of course, blamed Deep State conspirators and RINOs, but the result would be the same. The Russian influence machine has spent years nurturing right-wing anger and grievance. They have succeeded to the point that we now have millions of armed cultists literally ready to fight if their living God, Trump, is overthrown. The Russians haven’t done this out of love for conservative America. They have done it to create chaos and either weaken or completely eliminate the US as an opponent of their ambitions. What better time, then, for them to pull that trigger?

Of course, the purpose of the movie is not to talk about his innocence but rather to do as much additional damage to real journalism as possible. It exists to bolster the fantasy that everything other than FAUX news is fake.

Fortunately it appears that the lies chosen were too big for the majority to be willing to swallow.

She’s a humanitarian too, who has helped folks recover after the devastating wildfires around Gatlinsburg.

There should be no statues to second place losers of a war they started that ended up killing 600,000 Americans so that these insurrectionists could protect their right to own slaves and track down and recapture those enslaved persons who managed to escape to the North or Canada.

OK, I realize we have to consider the source(s), and the possibility that, like most of the WH “defenses”, Rudy’s “bombshell” is as likely to blow up in his own (or Trump’s) face as not - BUT: is there ANY credibility in this crap? Outside of OANN (real unbiased source, there, Rudy!) is anyone going to credit these suspiciously well-crafted “revelations”? IIRC, Viktor Shokin was the Ukrainian anti-corruption prosecutor who got canned for being corrupt, or whatever: how much weight will his [neatly-correlating-with-Team-Trump’s-conspiracy-theory-fetishes] “info” carry??

Democrats are going to back impeaching the most corrupt admin in our nation’s history. The Democrats will continue investigating Trump even as they move ahead with the 2 counts already under discussion.

Why?

Because Trump isn’t content with the crimes already committed. He’s intent on doing even more, all while violating his oath and the US Constitution. The GOP are fine with all this crime if they get the courts packed with their right wing extremists.

Average effective tax rate for individuals: over 20%
Average effective tax rate for corps, including Amazon, Microsoft, and Google: 11.3% - brought down to that level by the fact that 100s of companies like that - with massive valuations, paid no income tax at all. Like: these 91 companies paid no federal income tax.

State taxes are often computed based on the federal tax, so would likely mirror the federal tax obligations.

If you’re seeing federal revenues drop like a rock, states will see a similar problem.

It’s going to again destabilize state finances.

[…]Sadly, Congressman Van Drew’s decision to join the ranks of the Republican Party led by Donald Trump does not align with the values we brought to this job when we joined his office,[…]

[Trump Republicans] have refused to grapple with how the President of the United States has jeopardized our national security for his own political advantage.[…]

I commented it makes sense that a New Jersey politician that was ok with abuse of power would join the party that thought it was a good idea to have a bogus traffic study to cause jams and hurt a political rival.

By definition, anyone who earns the nomination of one of the two major parties is “electable” because in a “two person race” their floor is going to be 40% (that’s about the lowest anyone has earned in a two person race since FDR). Most likely they’re going to get at least 45% unless they are a truly horrible candidate.

For what it’s worth, the twitter account is telling the story of the battle of the bulge in a series of tweets over the next few days. That is just one of many tweets, that is apparently the commander of the German offensive and the tweet that follows it up mentions he was a terrible person. Just think it is important to note that tweet didn’t live in a vacuum and there was actually a reason for it.

I may have witnessed the first ever performance of I Don’t Like Mondays. The Boomtown Rats were playing at a Minneapolis bar called The Longhorn, and for their last encore, Just Bob and the keyboard player came out and announced that they were going to play a song that they hadn’t had a chance to work up with the band yet.

The other thing I remember about that show was that they had a song where the last chorus ended with “I’m gonna be like, I’m gonna be like, I’m gonna be like ME!!” The crowd was singing along and when it came to the last word, Bob dropped out only to hear the whole crowd shout out the word “YOU!!” He looked pretty pissed that we didn’t get it.

Lars Nielsen said in a statement to The Post that his brother asked him to write an exposé on his former employer.

“Having seen tens of billions in contributions and scores more in investment returns come in, and having seen nothing except two unlawful distributions to for-profit concerns go out, he was dejected beyond words, and so was I,” Lars Nielsen wrote.

More criminal enterprise being exposed by a whistleblower.

I posted yesterday about a child who died on Saturday morning and the girl’s mother was asking for people to pray for her resurrection.

It’s become a complete and utter debacle, with people piling on to talk about praying for Olive’s resurrection.

I am giving you this link, which includes a bunch of Instagrams, and which demonstrates how completely bonkers this has gotten.

Bethel Singer’s Infant Daughter Pronounced Dead by Doctors: ‘Praying for a Miracle’

faithwire.com

ETA: I’m pulling this Instagram link out because it’s the mother leading worship at one of the Bethel satellites last night and praying for her daughter’s resurrection.

Instagram

I’ll never forget tonight. @kalleyheili leading us in worship and contending for the RESURRECTION of her daughter, Olive Alayne Heiligenthal!! Can’t explain much, but all i know is God is on the move. KEEP PRAYING CHURCH!! #WakeUpOlive

I’m just going to say, doesn’t she think her daughter is with Jesus? Why would she want her to come back?
