And Now, Trump’s Impeachment War Begins

OK, here it is. The war launched by our impeached con man president Donald Trump is starting.

Iran has launched “more than a dozen” ballistic missiles against at least two military bases housing U.S. forces in Iraq. The Pentagon on Tuesday confirmed the attacks in a statement, and said, “It is clear that these missiles were launched from Iran and targeted at least two Iraqi military bases hosting U.S. military and coalition personnel at Al-Assad and Irbil.”

Even if I was, I would flat-out refuse to fight this war. I wouldn’t fight for the idiot son of an asshole in 2004, and I sure as fuck wouldn’t fight a war for the narcissistic bumbling manbaby.

Trump got the war he wanted.

Iran isn’t going to back down. This is proof of that.

Any casualties are on Trump. But for Trump’s idiotic and reactionary foreign policy, Iran would have been contained and constrained. Now they’re neither.

Trump ended the JCPOA. Trump imposed sanctions. Iran now sees how entering in to a nuclear deal was the wrong move, especially as they see how Jong Un has managed to jerk Trump’s chain around endlessly with the promise of photo ops. All the while, North Korea builds their nukes and makes empty promises while showering Trump with empty platitudes.

Trump did this. And who’ll benefit?

Saudi Arabia to be sure, with higher oil prices on the horizon. Russia and China. All of our rivals in the region.

All of our allies will see how Trump can’t be trusted.

This is the shitshow all of us here have been warning of since the moment Trump entered the WH.

Now it’s coming to pass, and it’s happening all while Puerto Rico is suffering from another natural disaster and Trump’s also managed to curb our fight against ISIS too.

We are weaker and our rivals are filling the void.

electrotek  Jan 7, 2020 • 4:48:43pm

I still think all the Iranian monarchists/Pahlavi fanboys/fangirls should be among the first go fight in this war. They wanted it so bad for so many years, so put up or shut up.

re: #202 Quoth the raven, Covfefe.

re: #198 Charles Johnson

Charles, we do have a reason for this. Trump was impeached. We obviously can’t let that stand, so we had to go to war with somebody. Who? Well, when in doubt, bomb Iraq. It worked for both Bush administrations, so why not Trump?

Yeah, some major differences this time. In1991, GHWB had a real - and near-universally accepted - casus belli (Saddam’s invasion of Kuwait): plus, he had domestic support AND significant international backing (both diplomatically and militarily); AND: was smart enough to limit US involvement. In 2003, GWB didn’t have quite the same backing - and his casus belli was somewhat shakier: it was total BS, but to a country still freaked out from 9/11, and looking to “do something” about the perceived problems in the region, it was enough (just) to get a proper resolution passed and recruit (just) enough allies. Which invasion remains the root source of a lot/most of the instability and unrest in the area, but never mind for now…

SO what does Trump have? A fit of pique, and a desperate attempt to try to salvage a wrecked Presidency?

I gotta say, people saying “Trump started a war because of impeachment” are giving Trump entirely too much credit for thinking more than 10 minutes into the future. Pompeo probably needled him about people thinking he was a pussy for backing down the last time, and got him to say yes on the hit on Suleimani. MAYBE he wanted a distraction, but I don’t think he thought beyond not looking like a pussy again when the Embassy was under siege.

I don’t think you can depend on him acting in any particular way - escalating, backing down, freezing, etc - because his “thinking” is totally self-centered and chaotic.

Of course they attacked al-Asad. It is a fixed base. It is just sitting there. That is where they know Americans are located. This should have been intuitively obvious to anyone in the WH with half a brain.

I will note that the threat to the UAE is a big escalation as far as the region is concerned.

re: #28 austin_blue

We’ll need to wait to hear about any casualties, but that Iran’s launching a second wave in such short order suggests that they’re showing Trump that they mean business and wont back down.

Trump’s fragile ego means that he’ll need to one-up them. That is bad news, because it just means both sides will escalate things.

Trump started this - dating back to abrogating the JCPOA and then slapping sanctions. Taking out Suleimani was the thing that pushed Iran over the edge. Now we stare at the abyss with no one in Trumpworld sane enough or competent enough to de-escalate, because Trump is the fragile snowflake who doesn’t listen to anyone who tells him what he needs to hear.

Kent Douglas Mawhinney, 53, a South Windsor attorney, was charged last month with violating the terms of the protective order by using Fotis Dulos to contact his estranged wife in an attempt to arrange a meeting with her, according to an arrest warrant.

Mawhinney’s wife told police she believed Fotis Dulos was working with her estranged husband “to get rid of her,” according to the arrest warrant. Fotis Dulos briefly met with the woman in West Hartford on May 19, according to the warrant, and then contacted her on May 20 and May 21 — three days before his own wife vanished.

Fotis Dulos, 51, and his girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, 44, have each pleaded not guilty to tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution charges in connection with Jennifer Dulos’ disappearance.

Hello, you haven’t heard from me in awhile.

For those, I’m an old timer, I guess. It’s a weird time for me, since my husband, is an Iranian-American and my son is a LT.Commander in the Navy. I think the last time I talked here he had just got his wings, and as you can imagine it’s really weird for him.

But to let you know, the last news from Iran was at the same time they attacked, they were burying their general. They told the Iranian people that this attack was retribution for his death and if the US doesn’t attack, this is it. It the US attacks, they will continue.

I had intended to return but at the same time my friend, Curious Lurker passed away..and I ended up arguing with people on The Hill..and strangely, made many friend there and after the 2020 election planned to return and bring the friends I made there with me. Discus sucks…lol

In Iran, they are really suffering under the sanctions, but they are use to it. But after losing a million people in the Iran/Iraq war..nobody is in a hurry to die. They have tried 2 times to overthrow the government but everyone that tried, ended up dead, in some pretty horrible ways. They aren’t going to try again for Trump. He shouldn’t plan on that.

The Iranian’s start their period of. Mourning..and Soleimani is now a martyr.

Most Iranian-Americans are just hoping that a bad player, like Saudi..doesn’t do something like an attack that looks like Iran did it.

During the funeral, Iranian tv put out that Soleimani had gone to Lebanon to speak with them there and on to Iraq to speak with Sunni’s that Iran wanted to make peace with Saudi. They said that but who knows if that was true, but the Ayatollah and the council of guardians say that they had not given permission for Soleimani to attack any targets.

Here I fired off panicked emails to my Congressman and Senators — but it looks like the adults in the room are all Iranian and their cooler heads prevailed. So maybe Trump gets a trip to Tehran and a tower and he will soon be talking about how much in love he is with the mullahs, will try to reinstate the JCPOA under a new name, and like the North Koreans, the Iranians will construct their bomb.

The question is: what will be the real reaction of the Iranians. One of my late husband’s favorite proverbs is: Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Until there is actual retribution, Trump will strut around in the belief that his strength and harsh threats so disheartened the Iranians, that they slunk away in terror from our “awesome” might.
