I feel like banging my head against a wall, knowing there are people who are trying to give Trump all the credit in the world for defusing a situation he ignited, and somehow acting like he just won a fucking war singlehandedly.

There seems to be nothing that half the country won’t fall down to their knees and worship this fucking orange asshole for.

The Pentagon would need to keep anything really important secret from him since the Russians will know seconds later.

While the second part of that phrase is definitely true, is the first part happening?

Trump has been warning about Iran, and yet did not have missile defense systems in place to protect those troops. Curious about that.

None of the missiles fired were intercepted by US missile defense systems. That’s because they weren’t deployed to protect those US forces.

When do we get investigations as to why Trump failed to get those troops missile protection against force Trump claimed was an imminent threat (missiles and kassams are a threat that can be addressed via Iron Dome style systems as well as Aegis defense systems). The lack suggests they didn’t take it seriously.

The satellite imagery shows that the Iranian missiles actually hit a number of structures at the base - there was a lack of impacts that suggest misses. Finding missile parts elsewhere isn’t indication of failure because warheads can and do separate from the rocket motor but both follow a ballistic trajectory.

The Iranians have always claimed high accuracy for the Fateh series missiles. It is possible as well that they had help from the ground near the target, ie laser designators or offset homing beacons.

My son was telling me about one of his friends that we’ve known for a long time. Her family is conservative, and voted for Trump because he’s the Republican. I don’t know how much they pay attention, but being where they live, they probably have Fox on often.

But she was telling my son that, while she’s conservative, the stuff Trump is doing is too much for her. She doesn’t support him. She can’t tell the rest of her family.

She’s 20, and I think Trump might lead her to challenge what he’s been raised to believe, but the right pushes could get at least someone else here in Texas to vote against Trump and eventually decide that the GOP isn’t for her.

State of Texas announces that state govt websites have been targeted by Iran thousands of times a minute.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Tuesday the Texas Department of Information Resources has seen a spike in attempted cyberattacks from Iran on state agency networks at the rate of about 10,000 per minute.

The increase in activity from that area has come in the last 48 hours, and to the department’s knowledge, none of the probes has been successful, said Amanda Crawford, the executive director of the Department of Information Resources.

“We have no way of knowing whether anything is government-based or not, or government-sanctioned. What we’re doing is scanning on our state networks, and we can see where attacks are coming from,” Crawford said.

That means that access to those sites could get limited thanks to what amounts to DDOS attacks, never mind the effort to actually hack those sites.

And predictably, all the usual suspects are taking this not as restraint, but Iran blinking in the face of almighty America and proof we can just punch people in the mouth without actual consequence.

My concern is that by the time this would likely bite us in the ass, Dems might actually be in charge long enough for them to get blamed, per usual.

Killing Americans, civilians or military, would only play into Trump’s approach.

Iran can claim to their people that the US is covering up its own casualties and assure them that Vengeance has been extracted.

I wonder if Iran deliberately missed so as to tell their people, “we hit the murkins”, while allowing Donald Trump to say that those Eye-ranians couldn’t even hit a single American target, declare victory and pull back from the brink.

Edit: It looks like this was already discussed here.

I’m surprised Donnie didn’t insult their targetting already — presumably he got his orders…

41
Targetpractice  Jan 8, 2020 • 11:24:37am

Honestly, I could see at least three messages being derived from yesterday’s strike:

- “We can strike at any time, without warning, and there’s little you can do to stop us. You are not safer.”

- “We don’t need to go far to attack Americans, and the more you station in the ME, the more targets that are available to us.”

And finally,

- “Iraq continues to host American troops within her borders at her own peril. The longer they allow Americans to stay, the more danger they face of becoming caught in the middle of our war.”

The message not sent? That Iran is standing down or that they are finished.

If they’re spending time in North America, that means Canada — they are Canadian royals too, in addition to being Bahamian, St. Lucian, and Jamaican royals, and the royal family of all the tiny British territories still in the Caribbean and Atlantic.

This could also be a strategic move to make the Royal Family more relevant in the other countries which still have Elizabeth II as their head of state.

It’s interesting to me to see this and then recall the recent paring down of the Royal Household in Sweden. It is arguable that there is a place for the ritual and pomp of a small number of royals in the modern world but they don’t need very many.

According to Wikipedia, the accuracy parameters for the latest Fateh-series missiles is given as “3 meters” (c. 10 feet) - which, I gather means that at least half their launches will hit within 3m of the target point. And judging by those photos, it seems like Wiki is correct.

Hi! I dropped by after a long absence. maybe some remember me.

I was and still am a lizard from awhile back, and a lurker..short story, My husband is an Iranian-American, while my son is a LT. commander in the Navy..but to make my story short; when Iranians came out of their bunker this morning, they all got up saying: This is it?

In Iran they are saying and on all the news sources from the government: 80 American deaths and it’s all over. Get back to your lives and our sacrifice was Soleimani. May he Rest In Peace our new beloved martyr.

The people: Soleimani was killed in a hit because he was becoming too powerful. And that was a threat to the Ayatollah. They said we all saw his crocodile tears. The Iranian- Americans believe that’s true as well. Like Iranians back home they too, have whiplash. Like the rest of the world,

But what’s scary for most sounds like a conspiracy theory; there is just too much coordination in the Republican/US Government speech and Iran and a Saudi-Russia-China component — an alignment between Dictators and strong men with a drug addict American President. There is so much to think about.

I assumed that Iran would claim US casualties to demonstrate to their people that Vengeance had been achieved. And Soleimani is also reputed to have been involved in some Trump property deals in Azerbaijan involving the Revolutionary Guard, so the plot gets even thicker…

I mentioned the late Shah’s fabulous car collection as a cultural asset that Cheeto might have a chance of understanding, though he might also think they are so much old junk. It really is a priceless collection, though, and is duly preserved in its own museum. There’s quite a history to the museum itself too. At one point, shortly after the revolution, there was a chance of the whole collection being sold for pocket change to some shady operators in the UAE, Singapore etc.. Wiser heads prevailed, and the collection stayed.

Yup. But they are a part of the national heritage, much like the vehicles of the Maharajahs of British India are. They need to be preserved for future generations.

So it WAS a version of Trump’s famous 59-missile barrage on Syria in 2017: lotta noise, lotta publicity, but also lotta warning and no casualties. This week’s presentation of Ballistic Missile Theater… hopefully a limited run.

And Jeez Louise! That briefing must have been Something Else, even by Trump Administration “standards”: I can understand the Dems (and Rand Paul) being pissed: but Sen. Mike Lee? You hardly ever see or hear from him: and he’s come out to rag on the Admin - on the record - for their BS?

I for one commend Harry and Meaghan for just wanting to be normal people. I don’t hate the royals but I’ve always found the British monarchy and whole landed aristocracy silly.

We got our flu shots in November, but I don’t know if it was an updated version or not.

I feel like crap. I’m going back to bed.

I’m also an “old” so I get a beefed up flu vaccine.
Not sure if that also makes a difference.

I’m thinking that their increased focus on North America probably is a nod to Meaghan, but also a convenient opportunity to work closely with the Obamas.

Well all. We buried my grandmother today. Family and friends came. My mom and I both spoke. Today is also the 99th anniversary of my Grandmother’s mother arrival at Ellis Island. The most moving thing for me was the photo board. The earliest photo we had was of Grandma at her first communion and the latest of her with my niece at her latest birthday. It was also fun to see my dad’s family and mom’s mingle.

Judge denies release of Jeffrey Epstein’s grand jury records

A judge Tuesday rebuffed criminal investigators looking at sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s cushy treatment by South Florida authorities over a dozen years ago.

It happened when special prosecutors appointed by the governor came to the Palm Beach County Courthouse seeking records from a 2006 grand jury that indicted Epstein on a single felony prostitution count.

They said they’d like to know whether the grand jurors ever heard that police had evidence that several minor girls were molested by the financier at his Palm Beach estate.

Not so fast, ruled Chief Circuit Judge Krista Marx, refusing to order the release of the grand jury tapes at this time.

Pence and Pompeo have to be disappointed that their hell-bound liberals revenge fantasy Rapture and Apocalypse in our lifetime also seems to have been delayed somewhat.

Fuck them all. Their tears of disappointment taste delicious. Even tastier is when Trump loses the election and the incoming Democratic administration releases all of the redacted Trump Crime Family memos, emails, and closed door testimony regarding this abortion of a presidency.

What’s a real disgrace is Banks’ party who is fine with deporting veterans and cutting their benefits to fund their donors’ tax cuts. That’s the disgrace. Not Omar who knows more about the horrors of war from a civilian POV than any Republican in office and saying as much.
