In Which Trump Suddenly “Remembers” Why He Ordered the Assassination of Soleimani

Politics • Views: 24,186

MP4 Video

So today, five days after he ordered the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, Donald Trump suddenly “remembered” that the Iranians were “looking to blow up our embassy.”

Which somehow wasn’t mentioned in the intelligence briefings given to Congress.

And then, mainstream journalists promptly assumed he was telling the truth, because of course.

NEW >>> Iranian missile system shot down Ukraine Flight 752, likely by mistake, two Pentagon officials and an Iraqi intelligence official told @Newsweek.

The aircraft is believed to have been struck by a Russia-built Tor M-1 surface-to-air missile system.newsweek.com

This is going to get messy. The Canadians are going to need answers, as well as the Ukrainians. You can’t trust anything that comes out of the White House, but this seems to be a lot more widely sourced. I wouldn’t consider it verified, but it makes a whole lot more sense than a completely randomly unrelated catastrophic accident right after a military strike from that country, that took the plane down before the pilots could say a word.

However, if this is the case then the Iranians are committed to covering it up, since it’s pretty hard not to know you just shot down an aircraft with your own air defense systems in your own country. Besides over sixty of your own citizens and dozens of Iranian-Canadians dead. MH17 all over again.

The stories coming out about the passengers are heartbreaking; newlyweds and university students.

Yeah, good f—-ing luck with THAT!

While I usually try not to get too bent-out—of-shape over the pathetic state of our “mainstream” media, it becomes harder and harder to avoid in the Trump Era. I mean, seriously: by this point in time, the orange buffoon OUGHT to have somewhere between zero and less credibility left for virtually ANYTHING he says out loud, or tweets to the public. And yet it seems like nobody - outside lefty blogs, of course - ever brings up the c-word when it comes to reporting on the mindless gibberings our National-Disgrace-in-Chief spouts at regular intervals. “Post-truth reality” indeed….

The Vincennes incident was criminal negligence by the US Navy that was shamefully whitewashed, but the US admitted they shot the plane down. Iran really can’t at this point if that’s the case here.

There’s already conspiracies floating around that this is some sort of deliberate revenge or something, by…shooting down a Ukrainian plane full of Canadians and their own people? Or that the US did it from inside Iran, or the Russians did it. People are nuts.

Dangerman (misuser of the sarc tag)  Jan 9, 2020 • 11:23:27am

Well, it’s negligence by Iran (who should have stopped all air traffic for 12 hours at least after firing missiles)

a couple of good observations:

- Too Sensitive for Congress, Perfectly Fine for Twitter.

- We did it for Reason “A.” Also Reasons “B” through “I.”
“I ” of course, stands for Impeachment.

If Trump told the truth…….”The democrats are seeking to blow up my presidency. I had a shot at deflecting the news cycle and I took it even though I knew it could lead to an unnecessary, bloody war that might kill thousands of Americans and cost us trillions of dollars. And if you don’t like it, tough shit.”

since all they had to do was lob a rocket to blow up the embassy, finally and most important, “If Trump killed Soleimani: because an attack was ‘imminent’, what’s to stop it still from happening?”

That would certainly be true. Shooting down a low-altitude commercial airliner with a published flight path and a working ADS-B transponder less than ten miles from your own damn commercial airport?

Apparently the story now from intelligence is that there were radar lockon and two launches detected of SA-15 missiles and then the impact. Some supposed video:

re: #18 Scottish Dragon

There are other facets too. The Iranian rockets that launched at the Iraqi sites had to have been done in co-ordination with civilian ATC, and air defense more than likely co-ordinate with civilian ATC to avoid incident (and it worked for the 4 or so hours of Khomeini Airport operating after the missile launch until the civilian aircraft was hit).
Equipment malfunction leading to an uninentional launch is one possibility, AA missile crew disobeying commands orders is another, a third could be that they were aiming for an american drone but somehow the missile ended up homing in on the civvie aircraft. Another possibility is collision with one of its own drones or an american drone (the latter are known to be stealth).

One Russian paper today argues that “Russia is the main beneficiary of the US-Iranian confrontation. By weakening each other, Washington and Tehran are broadening Moscow’s corridor of possibilities in the Middle East.” #ReadingRussia

I do think that a lot of this talk is rote “This is Good News for John McCainVladimir Putin!” I don’t think anybody knows how this is really going to shake out, the situations in Syria and Lebanon and the Gulf are delicate, and Iran has got to have a number of ways to kick Russia and/or Putin in the balls if they think that Putin is taking advantage of the confrontation.

Ask them how we made a near identical mistake with a state of the art Aegis guided missile cruiser in 1988…the USS Vincennes.

In war situations, decision making gets truncated and people get tunnel vision. bad things happen as a result.

For a good illustration of this…watch the classic movie The Bedford Incident.

Warning from the horse’s, er, mouth, a source known to be close to Trump, may have been just enough to push already nervous Iranian air defense operators over the edge far enough to launch without going through the whole identification process. NYC BAR:

“…Dear Speaker Pelosi, Minority Leader McCarthy, Majority Leader McConnell, and Minority Leader Schumer: We write on behalf of the New York City Bar Association (the “City Bar”) to urge Congress to commence formal inquiries into a pattern of conduct by Attorney General William P. Barr that threatens public confidence in the fair and impartial administration of justice.”
………

“…Mr.Barr’s recent actions and statements are in sharp and diametric contrast to the principles he cited in his confirmation hearings. In addition, they reinforce a broader pattern of conduct during his tenure in which he has created, at a minimum, an appearance of partiality in how he understands and carries out his role as Attorney General. In a troubling number of instances, Mr. Barr has spoken and acted in a manner communicating an impression that he views himself as serving as the Attorney General not for the entire nation, but more narrowly for certain segments of society—whether defined in terms of religion, ideology (his own “side,” to borrow the language of Mr. Barr’s Federalist Society speech) or party affiliation. For the reasons stated above, we have significant concerns about the propriety of Mr. Barr’s recent actions and statements. We urge Congress to exercise its constitutional obligations by expeditiously commencing formal inquiries into Mr. Barr’s conduct

Let’s be real for a second…

Iran was not planning on bombing an American embassy. That would be a direct act of war, and despite the hawks beating American war drums for my entire life time, there’s little evidence that Iranian leadership is actually interested in an actual war with the US. Not only that, since the US does not have an embassy in Iran, bombing an American embassy somewhere else would actually be an act of war against TWO nations, the US and whichever nation was hosting the embassy.

And besides, what does he care? His retirement is (disgustingly) secure: I’m sure some of his Federalist Society pals will be able to provide him some nice Wingnut Welfare sinecure to pad out his retirement fund. If there really WAS “Equal Justice Under The Law”, Mr. Barr would be spending (at least some of) his “golden years” in a Federal penitentiary: but, disgracefully, that’s probably unlikely.

PS: I noticed the NYBA managed a dig in against the Federalist Society in their gripe against Barr: good for them.

He is a member of the NY Bar, apparently. He was general counsel for Verizon and it’s predecessor back in the day, and was on the payroll at Kirkland & Ellis; so it makes sense. But the NYC Bar Association is, like most local bar associations, just a professional group for lawyers to network and get MCLE credits and whatnot. It’s typically the state bar and/or court that actually licenses an attorney to practice once they’ve passed the bar exam.

Doesn’t matter. Clinton Cash author has a new book out sliming multiple Democrats that is being touted by Axios in an “exclusive” today.

Let me guess! The fucking Screw York Times teamed with BreitFART again!

Christ almighty. The man who was killed was a naturalized Iraqi citizen. Exactly the kind of people Stephen Miller is working overtime to eliminate from American society.

The endless investigations and accusations served their purpose. Clinton’s reputation was so thoroughly trashed that just enough people cast third party protest votes to allow an ignorant, incompetent, degenerate criminal to slip into the White House.

Anyone who thinks they won’t be launching comparable attacks against any Democratic nominee is delusional. Biden is certainly under all out assault now.

No doubt. But none of the current leading candidates has had decades of accusations and vitriol hurled at them the way Clinton has. I almost think Mayor Pete might be the best choice of the four because he doesn’t have a long history to mine for votes to misrepresent. Almost; I have no idea which candidates will still be standing when I finally get to vote in the May primary in Kentucky, so I’m pretty agnostic, though I admit I like Warren’s wonkishness.

Between his praise of Mike Pence here in my state, coupled with his standing with a lot of African-Americans, I ain’t voting for him in the primary. (Nebraska switched to a primary system from caucuses for this election, but by May 12 most of these candidates should already be out.)
