Donald Trump to Military Leaders and Top Security Officials: “You’re a Bunch of Dopes and Babies”

Politics • Views: 24,018

Remember when it was reported that former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had called Trump “a fucking moron” after an especially disturbing meeting at the Pentagon?

We didn’t know the half of it.

Now an excerpt from a new book has more details, and that meeting was much worse than we knew. Everything you suspected about Donald Trump’s narcissism, egomania and deliberate ignorance — confirmed.

When Secretary of Defense James Mattis, Director of the National Economic Council Gary Cohn, and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson tried to educate Trump on national security and world affairs, it… well, it didn’t exactly go as they hoped.

“You’re a bunch of dopes and babies”: Inside Trump’s stunning tirade against generals.

So on July 20, 2017, Mattis invited Trump to the Tank for what he, Tillerson, and Cohn had carefully organized as a tailored tutorial. What happened inside the Tank that day crystallized the commander in chief’s berating, derisive and dismissive manner, foreshadowing decisions such as the one earlier this month that brought the United States to the brink of war with Iran. The Tank meeting was a turning point in Trump’s presidency. Rather than getting him to appreciate America’s traditional role and alliances, Trump began to tune out and eventually push away the experts who believed their duty was to protect the country by restraining his more dangerous impulses.

The episode has been documented numerous times, but subsequent reporting reveals a more complete picture of the moment and the chilling effect Trump’s comments and hostility had on the nation’s military and national security leadership.

[…]

Trump by now was in one of his rages. He was so angry that he wasn’t taking many breaths. All morning, he had been coarse and cavalier, but the next several things he bellowed went beyond that description. They stunned nearly everyone in the room, and some vowed that they would never repeat them. Indeed, they have not been reported until now.

“I wouldn’t go to war with you people,” Trump told the assembled brass.

Addressing the room, the commander in chief barked, “You’re a bunch of dopes and babies.”

Read the whole thing if you can stand it. We already knew the US was in very great danger with this know-nothing cocksure jackweasel in charge, but this is seriously jaw-dropping stuff.

We see why Putin wanted Trump here. Someone who would cause chaos as he consolidates his power and influence both in Russia and abroad. And Trump if those reports are true that he was super eager to meet Putin for the first time either show an easily manipulated fool or something that this level of the executive branch has never seen. And I think that’s what scares me most about Trump. I think he owes Putin and I don’t know how much he’s compromised it to Putin’s benefit.

Trump’s goal is to eliminate the US military as an obstacle to Putin’s ambition, while maintaining the profitability of the military-industrial complex. Thanks to 30+ years of conscious, deliberate fundamentalist infiltration, we are starting to see senior officers who will go along with this. In the short term, Trump’s goal is to put those officers in charge

Impeached President and Head of the Trump Crime Family, Donald Trump, is without a doubt the worst president in US history. Whether or not he is the worst leader in world history to never commit some sort of purge or holocaust is a reasonable question to be asked by historians for years to come.

But we aren’t living in any kind of normal world, so the Justice and State Departments declined to lift a finger even as a House panel announced an inquiry into the matter. Finally Ukraine, not known for having the most robust legal system, launched its own investigation on Thursday and requested assistance from the FBI in the case.

Apparently even Pompeo felt a little shamed by the fact that Ukraine had shown more concern for his own employee than he has during this entire harrowing ordeal. As CNN notes, “after more than 48 hours of silence,” Pompeo says the State Department will finally launch its own inquiry.

“I suspect that much of what’s been reported will ultimately prove wrong, but our obligation, my obligation as secretary of state, is to make sure that we evaluate, investigate. Any time there is someone who posits that there may have been a risk to one of our officers, we’ll obviously do that,” Pompeo said.

from electoral-vote.com this AM

Breitbart, for example, accompanied their item on the GAO report with this piece, headlined ”Seven Times the GAO Found the Obama Administration Violated Federal Law.” That may sound damning at a glance, except that the examples are all inadvertent breaches of the law, generally involve relatively small amounts of money, and were committed by people far removed from the President in the chain of command. There is nothing in the Obama administration’s record, or the records of most other administrations, that involves the president himself knowingly utilizing vast amounts of money to his own personal benefit. To the extent that parallels do exist, they would come from the Nixon administration, and a president who resigned in order to avoid impeachment is probably not the soundest foundation for an impeachment defense.

The other problem with this approach, meanwhile, is that “hey, someone else did it, too” isn’t really a defense. You aren’t going to be acquitted of, say, murder just because other people got away with murder.

I’ve long felt the coalition candidate is the best shot at defeating Big Baby. Once Kamala was out it was clear that Biden, for all his flaws, is the next best choice for black voters. He’s not loved, but he’s trusted. He even has some issues with race himself but it’s clear that some black voters can accept it. It’s probably because they ‘know’ Joe, warts and all, and trust him. Many white candidate do not have that same level of trust with black voters.

part of the issue is this happened in one cycle

so comparisons are obvious and the optics are stark: obama and trump

I see Warren has built up some good will with Hispanic communities too. If the race comes down to Joe and Warren, I think that will be the best outcome and at this point, I think it’s a realistic one too. Warren really impressed at the last debate. i think the reason why the athletes who have opposed appearing with him at the events know that’s what he does. He turns these events into his opportunity to whine about how hard he has it or to brag about himself. My favorite football team won once with Bush as President and once under Obama. Both Bush and Obama acted similar. They made it a celebration of the players. And I think Trump is only happy if he gets tons and tons of praise from the visiting players.

When Subway announced a partnership with Michelle Obama the right went nuts. 10,000s of thousands of racist FB posts on Subway and other sites claiming they’d never eat at a Subway as long as there was a photo of MO in the restaurant. The “they’re not racist, just resentful of being left behind” argument never had much force for me, but it evaporated after I saw such a collection of hate in one place over suggestions for healthy choices on the menu.

I’m really stumped to find anything admirable about Trump as a person. If all you care about from your president is making liberals upset from your President then maybe you would be better off deported than any of the immigrants who want to be here and be participants in our democracy.

Referring to Trump as Satan’s Anus, a smegma elemental, a piece of shit, a witless fucking cocksplat or the like isn’t really an insult anymore. It’s more like the opening segment of a documentary.

He’s just that bad. Everything he’s done his entire life has been at least malicious and often criminal, with the possible exception of his charitable contributions (back when he still did that occasionally).

But I’m not too impressed when a person parts with a tiny fraction of their unearned wealth to buy favorable publicity.

This is kind of random but I was thinking about weather the other day.

When I was a kid in Canada in the mid 80s through the early 90s, winters were pretty predictable.

Temps would drop down below 30 F around mid December and get progressively colder through January and February. We usually wouldn’t have another 30 F or higher day until mid march and we wouldn’t hit borderline t-shirt weather until mid to late April.

That doesn’t seem to happen anymore. 2006 I believe was the first year I started to really notice the milder winters. Now, there’s no sustained cold, just a few days cold snap here and there and then back to mild.

Definitely a bit unsettling to ruminate on.

Nunes was so obviously desperate too. After Ambassador Yovanovitch opening statement saying that all the republican claims were bullshit and they should not even be uttered in her presence, Nunes went off as if he hadn’t heard a word of it and read his statement that included every single lie she’d just condemned. It was quite a show.

That too! He was clearly so desperate that he was completely unable to camouflage it at all.
What is the smallest unit of measure? Less than that is the amount of sympathy I feel for Nunes.

Gawd how I hate Norm Coleman. Garrison Keillor hates him too.

It was a dreadful low moment for the Minnesota voters. To choose Coleman over Walter Mondale is one of those dumb low-rent mistakes, like going to a great steakhouse and ordering the tuna sandwich. But I don’t envy someone who’s sold his soul. He’s condemned to a life of small arrangements. There will be no passion, no joy, no heroism, for him. He is a hollow man.

More justification for Gov. Northam’s decision to declare a state of emergency and temporarily ban firearms from the grounds near the state Capitol in Richmond

“… Three suspected white supremacists arrested in Maryland and Delaware this week had discussed opening fire from different positions at Monday’s planned pro-gun rally in Richmond, Va., in the hopes of causing chaos, law-enforcement officials said.

Authorities also confirmed they arrested three other men in Georgia this week who are allegedly linked to the same violent, white-supremacist group, called “the Base.” The Georgia men were arrested Wednesday for plotting to murder a Georgia couple, the Floyd County, Ga., police department said Friday.

Another member of the Base arrested in Wisconsin allegedly vandalized a Racine, Wis., synagogue, federal authorities said in court documents. …”
