The Impeachment Trial of Donald Trump, Featuring His Lying Sycophantic Lawyers

Politics • Views: 21,730

YouTube

The Trump-thing’s team of crackhead lawyers is presenting their opening lies today. We all know what they’re going to say; they’re going to parrot every conspiracy theory and lie emitted by their Deal Leader, as he ordered them to do.

As I write this, they’re all pretending to pray, and don’t even get me started on what a violation of the Establishment Clause it is to do this in the Senate.

Maybe if Lindsay Graham didn’t turn from ardent Trump critic to Trump’s number one fan, not to mention how Trump treats inter party critics is well known.

The question that should be asked of those Repubs whining about being accused of being afraid is “If you’re not afraid of Trump, why are you so hesitant to go against him?” They can whine that those words weren’t used against them or the event didn’t happen, but the reality remains that they are afraid of reprisal from Trump and are allowing that fear to guide their actions. It’s like watching a jury acquit a mafia boss, not because they genuinely believe he’s innocent, but because they’re afraid for themselves and their families if they convict.

Yes. Also, what gets forgotten is that both the DNC and RNC were hacked in 2016. We saw all the damaging DNC emails (which I’m sure disappointed them). We have never seen any of the RNC emails. I think we can safely assume that most or all of the Republican senate is being blackmailed.

“Purely strategic reasons.” Yeah, no, that’s horseshit. Burning your bridges with minority voters in the hopes that you can somehow peel off white voters from Trump isn’t just foolish in the primaries, it’s goddamn suicidal in the general election itself. This is why so many think that Bernie would get his ass kicked if run against Trump, because there’s not enough white folks alone in the Dem ranks to elect him and the ones who support Trump are not going to be swayed by promises of “free” stuff.

Exactly. I’ve seen some say “Well just censure him and move on.” That would require at the very least acknowledgment from him and the WH that the call was improper and not “perfect” and I don’t think Trump has admitted to being wrong about anything since running for President. In fact, he’s doubled down on his ignorance.

This really is what Putin has always wanted. And if Republicans instead of being blinded by their hate of Clinton and the Obama administration actually used that “common sense” they love to claim they have, they would realize that Trump is Putin’s fiddle that he loves to play to show to the world skeptical about democracy “See how dumb those Americans are.” Really if I were a foreigner and Trump were my first introduction to an American President on a wide scale, I wouldn’t want anything to do with our country’s government.

It would have been a lot better for the goopers in a number of places if they could have at least said “what Trump did was wrong, I wouldn’t have done it, but it’s not worthy of removal.” McConnell could have given out golden tickets left and right to vulnerable senators in electoral trouble. But the narcissistic insecure nutcase in the White House would never have tolerated even fake tactical opposition. He’d have sent the flying monkeys down on anybody who failed to kiss his ass and destroyed them. So here we are, and may the rotten shits in the Republican Senate choke on it.

Reminds me of that scene in “Thief” (Michael Mann directed it, 1981 I think), where the lawyer and the judge keep going back and forth about an early release for a felon, and the back and forth involves hand signals indicating the judge’s price. It’s a fantastic scene.

Had Trump been willing to say “What I did was wrong, but not impeachable,” I doubt that House Dems would have even been able to find the votes to censure him. Blue Dog Dems would have felt too pressured to just let the matter go in the lead-up to an election year to support such a move. And Pelosi would have likely seen the optics of a House censure but Senate rebuff as not even worth the effort.

Which is why claiming that this was a hoax or done to overturn 2016 is absurd. Pelosi could have started an inquiry based of Mueller’s findings. I think it would have been harder than what’s happened here but she could have. She did not. Trump’s refusal to even acknowledge the slightest wrong doing is going to be his and his party’s undoing here in the end IMO.

The biggest issue with the “THIS IS ALL ABOUT 2016/THEY’VE WANTED TO IMPEACH HIM FOR YEARS!!!” bit is the Dems had this huge blow-up last year over the subject, to the point that there were calls for Pelosi to step down if she would not begin impeachment proceedings with the Mueller Report as a guide. There’s barrels of ink spilled on articles about how resistant she was to even consider impeachment unless something definitive came along. Hell, to this day, I still believe she only went after him on Ukraine because she could no longer hold back the flood.

Nobody buys this BS that this is all a partisan effort to overturn the election, because the people accused of orchestrating such were the biggest proponents of waiting out Trump’s term before Ukraine became an issue.

Exactly. She was if anything extremely cautious about this and you know what, I think she was right. And I feel she did a good job choosing impeachment managers and you couldn’t have gotten a better leader than Schiff, who I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up being Pelosi’s successor.

You have Adam Schiff who has prosecuted people who have committed espionage against the US and has been in Congress for 20 years now. And then you have Jay Sekulow who is nothing but a Trump lackey. We’re not going to remove him guys but I really think when this gets going, we’re going to wonder how much the GOP will do to ignore Trump’s shit. Right now though, they’re in a careful trap, we’re before their primaries so they have to stay loyal to Trump but we’re close enough to the election where they can’t just completely be absolved by amnesia. In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it. It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it. I think Bernie absolutely does pose. His hostility to immigrants is something that never gets discussed along with a condescension to women. I’m tired of Sanders’ fans acting like he’s the most progressive ever. He’s not.

It is truly amazing what those of us with our ad-blockers turned off instead of being able to afford a subscription are seeing served from this site’s partners.

What algorithm sees the way we’ve been for a decade and mainly feeds us ads with a MAGAt bias like the one about refinancing at the top of my current page?

Also, Rogangate still blowing up as the left tries to drag Human Rights Campaign and MoveOn under the bus (and remember that MoveOn in particular actually kneecapped Hillary and endorsed Bernie in ‘16!):

If Rogan can bring Bernie down for good, I’m all for it.

I hope so. Lot of Rogan fanboys tho. They’re not reliable voters though. That’s the thing about the Bernie movement. Voting is lame to them. To me, it’s one of the strongest forms of political expression.

Even if Bernie has done damage to his campaign by embracing Rogan, he could still stem the bleeding a bit if he came out now and said that he was rejecting the endorsement in light of past statements by Rogan that he’s been made aware of. It would hurt his image, but it might give him the chance to regain minority voters he’s lost.

Continuing to act as though this is all happening in a vacuum is what is going to doom his campaign going forward. There’s just too much out there, almost all of it from Rogan’s own mouth, to fake “shock” or “outrage” the next time he opens his gob and vomits forth hate and bile.

It’s lame to them because not only does he not just draw democratic-socialist support, there’s an argument that he just doesn’t draw democratic-socialist support, especially before they booga-booga Liz out of the race.

Instead, his real base is revolutionary socialists who hope each time they vote that it’s the last time anyone outside of a Politburo does.

The Sanders memes make me cringe like the Trump ones. It really does remind me of Ron Paul but it’s older than that. These cults of individual candidates make me so uncomfortable.

re: #57 Targetpractice

Had Trump been willing to say “What I did was wrong, but not impeachable,” I doubt that House Dems would have even been able to find the votes to censure him. Blue Dog Dems would have felt too pressured to just let the matter go in the lead-up to an election year to support such a move. And Pelosi would have likely seen the optics of a House censure but Senate rebuff as not even worth the effort.

Iowa hasn’t even started voting and already the Berners are arguing that “we” need to appeal to the Roganites of America if “we” want to win in November. That’s pretty fucking presumptive of them, that the first primary ballots haven’t even been cast and they’re already into planning out his general election strategy. The arrogance on display is just impressive, that they’re already talking down to Dem voters with the very same “You’ll vote for him if you don’t want Trump!” argument that they characterize as “fearmongering” at any other time.

What’s cute about this is Philbin wants us to believe that the man who screams that his impeachment is “invalid” because no Republicans voted for it would have complied with subpoenas that would likewise have passed without a single Republican vote.

Lie though it is, it would be the most technical of technicalities and absolutely absurd in these circumstances and context.

We can’t remove a president who did all these things but was incorrectly served

They have a very hostile attitude to democracy. And the shit about it being rigged in HRC’s favor was offensive to those who actually did work on a campaign that did in fact win the nomination against HRC. Bernie’s top support demographic in 2016 was mine- 18-29 year old with a degree and white and male. He didn’t get my vote then and he’s not now. Joe Rogan never has meant anything to my identity as a liberal Democrat.

Or racism. (Including environmental racism.)

And even if he were the most progressive, I still wouldn’t support him. His legislative record is nil and his plan for overcoming Congressional resistance to his agenda (“There will be GIANT protests!”) is so childishly naive that it is insulting that he would try to sell it to us as an actual plan. And he certainly hasn’t sold me on him having any foreign policy expertise - which by itself isn’t disqualifying if I can trust that a candidate will have, and listen to, a great Cabinet and other advisors. He comes off as such an obnoxious know-it-all that I am not sure he would listen to qualified advisors.

It’s a reminder of just how much contempt they have for that there “Identity Politics”, which is almost always focused on allowing those whose identities have minimized their voice to, you know, actually have a voice. The ones that decry it the most are usually the ones that tend to have their ‘identities’ catered to the most, after all.

And yet, their the ones that are the most desperate to take the mantle of ‘civil rights’ all the while dismissing the folks on the ground working for civil rights the most, because they act like it takes focus away from the ‘real’ threat. Like…listen to how many in the trans community have been basically browbeat and told that their concerns must necessarily be trampled for the sake of the ‘big tent’. Especially by those who have gone out of their way to shitkick the entire Dem party for being ‘Republican Lite’ or centrist and having too big a tent.

Not to mention the whataboutism when they bring up Biden and his nostalgia for the olden days of the senate and former segregationist colleagues…you know, like those weren’t heavily called out by the very people calling this shit out. But no, Biden isn’t perfect, Warren isn’t perfect, therefore Sanders must immediately get a pass forever and anon because he is the closet to perfect or some shit.

And it looks like Sanders is actually reaping the rewards of this shit wholesale from the lovefest he’s getting from most mainstream reporters and rising polls. So…fine, fun, fan-fucking-tastic. The marginalized are getting kicked to the side again and stomped back into the corner because fuck it, the votes really don’t matter, do they?
