Left hanging on the last thread. Dave Daubenmire is still using his podcast/radio programme to rant about this.

re: #255 Anymouse 🌹🎃

Coach (not a coach after he was fired over leading prayers with his high school team) Dave Daubenmire has settled on how much money he wants from the NFL, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, and Pepsi for daring to broadcast such a “pornographic” show into his home and disturbing his younger son. (His older son was convicted of possession of kiddie porn.)

He claims “viewing what they put on the screen endangers his going to Heaven” and wants to claim the NFL is sending him to Hell in a courtroom .

(Discovery should be fun if it got that far: Prove there is a god, a heaven, or a hell.)

What he’s really looking for is “Christian oppressed” points.

He told Daily Caller he would be satisfied with a $867,000,000,000 (that’s trillion) settlement.

He’s looking for a lawyer to represent him, which he put out on his show.

I actually understand why millennials get pissed off when told they should vote for someone they were taught to hate in the campaign. They’re still young, they don’t know this is supposed to be a game with no hard feelings yet.

That’s a hard one to learn, because it just doesn’t feel right.

That’s another thing: Lumping people together as if they are all one group which conspired to do something.

“All boomers” didn’t screw Millenials. I’m a boomer. I didn’t do any such thing.

A few power-hungry assholes (unsurprisingly conservatives and Christian) did that. They’re the ones who stripped funding from universities, inflated stock bubbles and caused recessions, &c.

I do not accept responsibility for what others do. I accept responsibility for what I do alone.

I also don’t use the term “Greatest Generation,” preferring instead “Great Depression Generation.” All of them weren’t great as you note, but all of them did go through the Great Depression.

The Treasury Department turned over Hunter Biden’s confidential financial records to Republican senators despite refusing to release President Donald Trump’s tax returns as required by law.

Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Ron Johnson, R-Wis., announced that they will investigate Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, and “his associates during the Obama administration” just one hour after the Senate voted to acquit Trump in an impeachment trial with no new witnesses or documents sparked by the president’s push to investigate his political rivals. There is no evidence nor credible allegations that either Hunter or Joe Biden did anything illegal.

And fewer had to/could go. Most folks just graduated from high school or went to trade school. California had free tuition. But the living standards were at best high school dormitory, and there were whole majors, like computer science that didn’t even exist as a concept back then. Also America had this idea that we needed at least a robust educated class. It worked as long as the kids didn’t challenge the professors on race and other topics. Once kids began to protest, and black people wanted an education beyond tokenism, then college was too expensive for states to fund…..

A long time ago, i’m not sure from what source, I read that the ministry attracts more than its share of people who have issues with sex. Instead of accepting who they are, they enter the clergy hoping that the strictures would help keep them under control.

A profession is only as good as the pool of recruits. A low paying profession most of the time, with few opportunities to advance or to support a family, the pickings are slim. Once it could get better material simply because the priesthood/ministry offered poor boys (and mostly boys) a better life than slaving in field and factory. But once the professions like law and medicine started paying better, and field and factory became unionized, it was harder to get good material.

Schools in our area are being closed now to try to halt the flu epidemic here.

Officials from Regional West [Medical Center in Scottsbluff] said according to the Center for Disease Control, influenza activity is currently increasing nationwide. More than 8,600 laboratory-confirmed influenza-associated hospitalizations were reported in the U.S. from the beginning of October 2019 to the end of January 2020. The percentage of deaths attributed to influenza and pneumonia during that period is 6.7% and 68 pediatric deaths were reported. The CDC recommends everyone six months and older should get a flu shot annually.

Well, it helped that it was a monopoly of sorts. There were few places to go for an aristocratic kid that wasn’t going to inherit anything, for poor bright kids who wanted to read instead of harvesting wheat, or who wanted some financial stability. Once the Industrial Revolution and the political changes that came with it expanded and opened up the world of possibilities, then the Church had to compete for talent.

I remember that bullshit line especially when I spent six years delivering the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in the morning and the Pittsburgh Press in the afternoon and Sundays. I had to collect from each jerk and quite often they stiffed me. Oh I remember the commercial run by AEI in the early 70s showing a kid delivering papers while the announcer said he made more than 80% of the people in the world and it closed with “Free Enterprise—People Forget How Well It Works”. Yeah, if everyone paid me on time I made $1.98 a week…and when I entered Pitt in 1973 the tuition was $485 a trimester along with $485 for room and board...even then I knew “Free Enterprise” was a crock of shit.

Oh and they use as the #1 reason ACA which they say is really Wall Street Care. Ticked me off when a Berniebot said to me that Obama was nothing more than a lawn jockey for Wall Street…

A lot of this is personal for me. I have a heart condition- can’t get kicked off coverage due to ACA. These idiots just have no idea and it’s why they’re not getting anywhere beyond their own echo chamber.

CBS Sunday morning had a story about a small two screen theater in a town outside Seattle that was built into an old firehouse. The owner had a heart attack due to trying to keep it open. A fundraiser was set up to help cover the costs of having to upgrade to digital distribution. Before the story aired, the fundraiser was at $7k. It’s now at $96k. There’s a link to the Facebook page with a link to the video here: gofundme.com

My Rolodex is sorted that way. I know people by their given names.

When I look someone up in the telephone book, it’s like “Dammit, what’s Rex’s last name?”

I also sort my German-bought DVDs by the original English titles, which led to a bit of a conflict over All Quiet on the Western Front, as it was based on the German novel Im Westen nichts Neues.

I eventually opted for the English title as it was a US production.

I think they’re genuinely frustrated at the economy and how it works. I’m sympathetic on that count. I grew up in the Midwest, and yes, this is nothing unusual for the Great Lakes region, but they are talking about high winds (50 mph gusts) and up to 1” of rain in a short period.

Problem here along the Rhine is flooding in the valleys and all the above-ground power lines (most of the rest of Germany has underground cables, but the terrain here prevents that to a great extent)

I think many Trump voters would vote for a Socialist if that candidate came out and specifically stated that the socialism and single payer health care would be for “real tax-paying Americans” ie .. code for white people only. What that means and how it would be implemented in real life would be near impossible but would sell to the traditional working class now voting Trump.

As long as the Baby Boomers are the dominant or even secondary voting bloc this will be a very racist country as they are scared and aging rapidly, trying to hang onto fuzzy memories of a country and body politic that didn’t quite exist in the first place. Appealing to their racism ( as now standard OP for Republicans) is clearly a strategy of certain Democrats but whether they can translate this into real votes remains to be seen.

Ah, the ever-lasting arrogance of youth, that attitude that says “It’s not my problem…” This dickhead doesn’t quite get that unless they left the table (i.e. fled to a foreign locale), then their decision not to decide has left them dining on the same glass shit as the rest of us for the past 3 years. And since they’re posting on Twitter, odds are they haven’t gone “off the grid” (i.e. “I’m not hungry”) and so are every bit a participant as those they decided to screw over. That’s the simple reality of our political system, you’re still gonna eat glass shit if your decision to “go hungry” means that glass shit is what’s ends up on the menu.

It’s why he not only can’t understand why Jones and Manchin voted for conviction when he was sure they’d vote for “acquittal” in a naked attempt to win over voters who hate them with a fiery passion hotter than a million suns, but also thinks Romney somehow “betrayed” him by not voting in lockstep with the rest of the party.

I had some errands to run that took me through Manchester. Lots of canvassing activity going on. Also, two big Trump-gear vendors set up in lots across from the arena where the Dems held an event last night. A truck I’ve seen a couple of times before—that would put the van of the Trump bomber to shame—was circling the block and leaning on his horn.

The scarier scenario is if he loses the election Oathkeepers and other loons will be trying to keep Trump in the White House Keep while simultaneously attempting a takeover/occupation of Congress.

It is going to get Krazier and Krazier leading up to and immediately after the election. Many Republicans in Congress and in the Trump Crime Family administration know they will be made to answer some very difficult questions and going to prison if Democrats win.

Putin and his lackies have been fantasizing about this very scenario for years now, although I don’t think it’s going to turn our exactly like they wanted.

It doesn’t necessarily even have to bear out in actual empirical numbers. It’s clear that TV news and papers believe that the coverage helps their bottom line, they’ll do it. It’s the same sort of magical thinking that leads Baquet and the rest of the NYT to extend fig leaf after fig leaf to conservatives in coverage, believing it will finally, for once, get them the boost with conservative readers that it never actually does.

I wasn’t. I’m not sure exactly why, but I presumed that just as sure as I knew Collins wouldn’t, he would. Note that in the tweet above he says “The people of WV know exactly who has worked day & night for the last 5 years to secure their healthcare & pensions & it wasn’t you.” (emphasis added).

The only one that surprised me was Mittens and I’m glad to see that the people of Utah are supporting him. Just wish he’d have done it on both charges.
