I’m still not going to vote for Bloomberg in the primary, and I think he needs to participate in the debates, but if you go by what he’s says - which way more people should have gone by what Trump said in 2016 - he doesn’t seem to be planning to turn the US into Bloom-burg, and he cares about issues like climate change.

And I think he’s an opportunist, and probably wants to have his name remembered through history. But imagine being the person who saves US democracy.

Like Lev Parnas and several other Republican defectors, Joe is trying to pull himself up from “outcast low-life” to “national hero” in one go-for-broke throw of the dice. It’s bold but, also like Parnas, he has nothing to lose. I wish him luck and hope to see more like him.

I’ll vote for him if he wins the nom, but I definitely wouldn’t vote for him in the primaries, and I still think that for all his attacks on Trump, they’d be just as effective if he put his money toward that kind of shit without needing a candidacy behind it.

I still can’t forgive him for some of the shitty policies he put his weight behind in NYC, especially Stop & Frisk (which his very recent apology for still rings hollow).

A thought on the coronavirus. One of the features of this virus is that it takes longer to show symptoms but you can spread it even while you aren’t showing any. What if a virus were to evolve to where it didn’t start showing symptoms until a sufficient number of people in the area were infected? You know, like Fox news.

I’m absolutely 100% behind everything Xeni is saying here. Problem is, a sizable amount of white women looked at Trump with all of his rape baggage and went “Yeah, I’m good with that.”

That’s on top of the overt racism.

This is not meant as an endorsement of Bloomberg by any stretch. I’m even questioning if really does have any supporters, or if the press is trying to blow this out of proportion for the horse race effect.

That said, on the one truly radical left site I read, they’re pretty much saying if it’s Bloomberg and Trump, they’re staying home. I can’t necessarily blame them, as it is a Kang v Kodos scenario. I mean, Jesus Christ, Bloomberg was a fucking Republican for most of NYC mayoral run.

At this point, I’m like “Give it to Bernie so we can just fucking focus on kicking Trump’s ass.” I really wish Warren was doing better. It seems like all Trump has on her is mocking her genetics.

Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus  Feb 15, 2020 • 1:02:06pm

I just can’t see Bloomberg getting many delegates. That a few polls here and there have him in the pack doesn’t mean he’ll end up with many delegates.

Right now the only real threat to Democratic party cohesion is Bernie. He’ll clock in with a full quarter of the votes… and his supporters will declare him the winner, even if three out of four did not vote for him.

I really don’t see what they’e trying to accomplish with this sort of thing.

Black people aren’t going to suddenly go “Well, if Laura Ingraham says it, guess that settles it!” And his followers have already internalized the view that blacks are ungrateful lay-abouts to be looked down on and demonized to the extent any human can internalize anything.

So what’s the perceived end game?

Warren Is Paying the Price for her Honesty. And Her Gender.
Her willingness to provide the details of her plans should be a strength, not a drawback.
David Atkins, Washington Monthly

But it would be a terrible shame if one of the lessons of the 2020 election cycle were that honesty, decency and attention to detail-as well as just being a woman in a world where Donald Trump festers in the White House-were seen as lethal drawbacks for a candidate rather than the strengths they rightly ought to be. And it would be a stain on the Democratic Party if a woman attempting to unite the two factions of the party after an ugly rift in 2016 were left high and dry by both sides in their respective attempts to dominate the other.

Given the predilection for denominations to just straight-up split whenever a difficult debate comes along, it’s no surprise to me that the Southern Baptists have largely held on to their regressive beliefs. Anyone who disagreed with them would have gone and started their own thing. The same will likely happen here.

A rather large part of the SBC are all in with Trump and fascism. A small part of the SBC are objecting, either leaving or trying to modernize that denomination.

It’s a battle.

But like the rest of Christian history, all that will result will be many more denominations spring up out of the conflict.

Bloomberg’s words didn’t just set back his candidacy with minority voters. They also demonstrate why the last person Democrats need as their nominee in 2020 is a corporate billionaire whose first instinct is to excuse the toxic practice of bankers — and blame the bankers’ victims.

It’s a battle.

But like the rest of Christian history, all that will result will be many more denominations spring up out of the conflict.

Over the past week, a number of prominent SBC pastors of the Calvinist persuasion were completely LOSING THEIR SHIT over a (not SBC) female Baptist pastor who had been invited to present *during worship* (as in NOT PREACHING) during the SBC’s annual meeting.

And every time these asshats, such as Tom Ascol (who DESPERATELY wants to be president of the SBC), Tom Buck and the rest of them start going on about “wimmins aren’t supposed to preach” and “we need resolutions” and “we’re going to BOYCOTT”, the more sensible SBCers (and there are a few) cave in. So Hosanna Wong was disinvited and these asshats set up a “Conservative Baptist Network.”

Every time one of these jokers crosses my path on Twitter (or, if I throw myself in their way), I bring up that they spend their time trying to gag women and continue to treat LGBTQIA as pariahs, while ignoring the sexual abuse in their churches. I taunt them with the fact that the SBC doesn’t keep a list of its convicted sexual predators—the Houston Chronicle is working on that. I tell them bluntly that their churches are UNSAFE.

I’ve frankly had enough of people excusing sexual abuse, which is why Bloomberg is just off my list. While Bloomie is awful, he isn’t quite as bad as the SBC god-botherers who think they’re so high and holy and think they know the will of God, but can’t bring themselves to deal with their criminals and those who enable them.

They don’t have to be from different states. They just wouldn’t get New York’s EC votes, which would pretty much doom them in this election.

Now why am I getting a lot of e-mails about this Bloomberg & Hillary ticket from QUESTIONABLE sources…and by questionable I mean Berniebots??????

Because Drudge once again threw shit into the pot and stirred it, and not only do the mainstream outlets continue to display credulity toward Drudge for whatever reason, but Hillary’s place as the great grand boogeyman of all things means that you can promote outlandishly stupid things about her and the right and a huge chunk of the left will take it immediately as gospel truth, because to them, Hillary is so obviously evil that every single bad thing said about her must automatically be true.

My new DK Diary, Know What My Favorite Health Care Plan Is? The One Where We Save Our Democracy.

It starts like this, and then goes downhill from there:

Do you know what has been causing me health problems?

Waking up and finding out that Trump is keeping kids in cages and watching them die.
Reading stories about how he’s inspiring six year olds to bully minorities.
Seeing him weaken the EPA.

Watching Barr turn the DOJ into a tool for Trump to use to go after his enemies.

Catching another announcement that Republicans, rather than defending our democracy, are willing to throw it all away to stay in power.

Hearing about how minorities are scared that us white people could easily forget about everything that’s going on in this country and screw this election up because we’re focused on “our problems” (and that’s putting it nicely) and not those of the country as a whole.

In 2000 both GWB and Chaney were from Texas. It was trivial for Chaney to move his residence to WY. I doubt that Bloomberg is seriously considering HRC because of the (not deserved) toxicity associated with her.

More specifically… the electors from NY wouldn’t be able to vote both for Bloomberg as President and HRC as VP. So if it’s close, you could end up with, say, 275 EC votes for Bloomberg and 263 for Trump… and then with 29 NY EVs out of the mix, 246 EVs for Hillary and 263 for Pence.

That would be ugly.

OR

The New York electors could vote for someone from another state for Vice President—example cast 29 electoral votes for Bloomberg as President and 29 electoral votes for Bob Casey of Pennsylvania. Since no candidate for Vice-President would have a majority, the Senate selects from the top two.

But which Senate? The outgoing one, where you know Mitch would ensure it goes at least 51-49 Pence (even allowing for a deeply concerned Collins), or the incoming one, and who knows what THAT will look like yet?

It has to be the NEXT Senate that begins on 1/3/21 because the first order of business is the counting of the electoral votes. If this doesn’t get folks to help knock off Republican Senators I don’t know what else will!
