More Than 1,000 Department of Justice Alumni Release Statement Calling for AG Barr to Resign

Politics • Views: 22,255

Here’s another historically bad moment to add to the ever-increasing tally of the Trump crime administration, as more than a thousand former employees of the Department of Justice sign an absolutely scathing and unprecedented statement calling on Attorney General William Barr to resign for intervening in the sentencing of convicted Trump crony Roger Stone.

In this nation, we are all equal before the law. A person should not be given special treatment in a criminal prosecution because they are a close political ally of the President. Governments that use the enormous power of law enforcement to punish their enemies and reward their allies are not constitutional republics; they are autocracies.

That’s correct, you weren’t imagining it or over-reacting. If these people tell you the US is sleepwalking into an autocracy you should probably believe them.

They have no illusions about whether Barr will actually resign.

Mr. Barr’s actions in doing the President’s personal bidding unfortunately speak louder than his words. Those actions, and the damage they have done to the Department of Justice’s reputation for integrity and the rule of law, require Mr. Barr to resign. But because we have little expectation he will do so, it falls to the Department’s career officials to take appropriate action to uphold their oaths of office and defend nonpartisan, apolitical justice.

The statement concludes by calling on current DOJ employees to stand up, report abuses of power, and refuse to carry out illegal or unethical orders.

For these reasons, we support and commend the four career prosecutors who upheld their oaths and stood up for the Department’s independence by withdrawing from the Stone case and/or resigning from the Department. Our simple message to them is that we — and millions of other Americans — stand with them. And we call on every DOJ employee to follow their heroic example and be prepared to report future abuses to the Inspector General, the Office of Professional Responsibility, and Congress; to refuse to carry out directives that are inconsistent with their oaths of office; to withdraw from cases that involve such directives or other misconduct; and, if necessary, to resign and report publicly — in a manner consistent with professional ethics — to the American people the reasons for their resignation. We likewise call on the other branches of government to protect from retaliation those employees who uphold their oaths in the face of unlawful directives. The rule of law and the survival of our Republic demand nothing less.

It’s not that there isn’t a perfect candidate, it’s that there are very few who are demonstrably better than the king, although several of them may only be equal and it’s unlikely any are truly worse!

I’m beginning to suspect it won’t matter who wins the nomination at this point, the difference that will be made in a post-Trump administration will be whether or not the Senate is won.

If Dems win a majority in the Senate, then the next administration will be little more than a caretaker gov’t, the 4 years spent cleaning up the mess left behind while getting all the blame for the negative consequences of 4 years of a wannabe mobster running the nation.

If they fail to win a Senate majority, then they won’t even be that. No legislation will move without major compromises made, which will render any progressive efforts toothless. McConnell or whoever replaces him as GOP majority leader will continue to frustrate all efforts to fill vacancies in the judiciary while sitting on any bills they view as “socialist.” And don’t expect any help from the media, who seem to get off on watching Dems faceplant.

I tend to subscribe to the school of thought that the “number of the Beast” was a reference to Emperor Nero - even though he’d been long dead by the time Revelations was written. The explanation for that is that there apparently was a fairly widespread belief that Nero would return.

Then we have these two (cf. Revelation 13:16)…

I’m beginning to lose count of these curious “coincidences”.

I pretty much expect to find the same reporters who right now waste tons of ink talking about the continued popularity of Trump in deepest, reddest America pumping out articles after he’s gone about how those same nimrods are so distressed under a Dem administration. Much like they spent the early Obama years going to these same dirt piles and reporting about how the white folks there felt “uncomfortable” with a black man in the White House.

Gonna be that guy.

I think this is important and I commend these people for doing it, but does this shit register with the asshole “independent” voters who, quite frankly, aren’t that educated about current events?

Those fucking morons have to see this, comprehend current events, and make the oh-so-difficult observation that the GOP is fucking out of control; and the only way to fix it is to vote Dem (although there’s a big caveat about that below).

Sorry. I’m not giving up, but the whole Bloomberg resurgence really has me irritated right now. Bloomberg is a fucking Republican running under for the Democratic nom because he switched to “Independent” during the last few years of his mayorship.

I’m really convinced this is ratfucking to an unprecendented degree by the GOP. For years, it seems like the “common” wisdom is that the Dems have to basically be the GOP without the obvious bigotry to win office.

This just really seems like a not-so-subltle push by conservative operatives in that direction. Bloomberg gets in office to the supposed consternation of the GOP, and then he shows “bipartisanship” by fucking over the Democrats and giving Republicans everything they want, from setting fire to every safety net the poor need to outlawing abortion.

Then the dipshit swing voters and the press crow about a new era of cooperation.

Ugh, going to go by beer now.

re: #34 PhillyPretzel

Yes, it is Bucks county. And If I recall correctly most of Bucks went for DT. It is no surprise to me that a store that sells stuff to support DT is doing well.

From the article:

Saturday night, Murphy was helping to host a People 4 Trump event at the Newtown Athletic Club in Bucks County. She said roughly 1,000 people were expected to attend the “pre-election launch rally” featuring conservative political analyst Erin Elmore, pro-Trump national commentator Jack Posobiec, and Dion Cini, who was described on the flyer as a “Trump enthusiast banned from Disneyland.” (Elmore and Posobiec are both from the Philly area.)

Murphy said she sees the store as a sign of change for Bucks County.

“People are waking up,” she said. “They’re opening their eyes, they’re saying, `Yes, I want what he stands for. I want freedom, I want the wall, I want this country protected from all our enemies, everywhere,’ and he’s doing all that.”

Ugh. Also, the bolded paragraph is pretty fucking emblematic of your average MAGAt. As Philly Pretzel pointed out, this dipshit already lives in a Trump stronghold. The only way the store is a sign of change is that any patrons who show up will eventually vandalize the minority owned businesses in the same strip mall.

The bill does not take the military option “off the table,” it simply removes the whole “60 days of foreign adventurism” from the usual 90 days under the War Powers Resolution. In other words, Trump has to inform Congress within 48 hours of any military action in Iran and ask for authorization. So he can’t launch a war with Iran, then mumble an excuse about how it’s about “terrorism” days later.

And I wish to fuck that at least one Democrat would step up and note that when Obama tried to take action against Syria for actually using chemical weapons on their own people in contravention of various international laws (most especially the Chemical Weapons Convention), a “red line” that he’s been forced into declaring after Republicans slammed him for weeks for not responding to said attacks, those same Republicans then declared he had to come to Congress to make the case for intervention to them in person. And if he did not do so and attacked Syria without seeking Congressional authorization, they would just shred through the War Powers Resolution and immediately begin impeachment proceedings. Only to then (what else?) attack him when he backed down from direct intervention after Russia talked Assad into declaring and destroying his stockpiles.

“Extremely confident we can maintain 2% growth.” Meanwhile, just to break even on the Tax Scam, the economy would have needed explosive growth of 3-4 times that. In other words, Ivanka is just admitting that they’re “extremely confident” that the federal deficit and national debt will continue to balloon under Daddy’s watch. Which means regardless of who wins in November, we’re headed for yet another “fiscal crisis” in 2021 that will be used to attack the social safety net.

re: #30 Mattand

Before he ran for mayor, he was a Democrat.

PLEASE tell me at some point in this “interview” that they asked her why Daddy was suddenly downgrading his predictions of 4-6% growth down to “maintaining” 2% growth? We’re apparently supposed to be impressed that the USMCA will increase growth going forward by a whopping .5% annually.

Didn’t they always claim the tax cuts would bring the 3%+ growth needed to eliminate the deficit? So they are promising huge deficits forever?

This stuff is Econ 101 and probably well below her credentials but really, we Americans really have a right to know whether Keynesian or Monetary Policy will be utilized, or perhaps, a combination of theories that may earn her a Nobel Prize down the road.

A sample of the scene:

Will McAvoy: Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, founder of the Tea Party Caucus, who herself has a difficult relationship with reality, ignores the statement from the White House.

Will McAvoy: In spite of there being no source for this information, to say nothing of the absurdity of the figure, Fox News grabs the baton.

Glenn Beck: So he’s travelling with 34 warships, an entourage-

Little poem I just wrote. Thought you guys might like it.

“Hold On”

I know you’re walking through the darkness.
I know your patience is wearing thin.
I know you’re weary from the fight
Against rage and hate and sin.

I know you’re bruised up on the inside.
I know your longtime friend is pain.
I know your clothes are soaked from
All that trudging through the rain.

I know your skin is marked with scars.
I know that you’ve been burned.
I know you feel imprisoned,
To serve a sentence never earned.

I know you’re tired of the battle,
I know how long you’ve been at war.
I know many times you’ve been looked over,
And been left alone, ignored.

But that’s not all…

I know that flowers bloom in spring.
I know the kiss of child is sweet.
I know you can grab victory
From the cold ashes of defeat.

I know the summer sun glows warmly.
I know a dog is a best friend.
I know that even wounded hearts
Can find a way to mend.

I know a warm hug can be healing.
I know that stress can be made small.
I know that fresh baked cookies
Can be the sweetest smell of all.

I know you can climb the mountain.
I know you can survive your trial.
I know that in this world
You can still find a way to smile.
