“I don’t think anyone is buying it. I just left a big — a huge Republican dinner here in the San Joaquin Valley of California, President Trump was out yesterday, it was actually a joke tonight,” Nunes said, while speaking in front of tractors.

“Nobody is going to believe this garbage,” he predicted.

Well, if Devin says it, it must be…so full of shit you could fertilize the Sinai with it.

I like how Devin thinks a story about Putin wanting Trump to win means he wants Republicans to win. I guess he didn’t notice when Trump actually had negative coattails, costing Republicans seats in 2016.

He’s not even on any committee involving foreign policy let alone intelligence. He’s reserves military but a chaplain and I won’t dismiss that position’s importance to the military but this guy would be a bad choice to be on the Intel committee and Trump wants him to be DNI. Trumps cabinet picks get more and more absurd as Trump loyalists dominate the opportunists.

Don’t forget—he and his wife also ran a scrapbooking store, so there’s that. And he likes to yell. But he has no intelligence background (and from what I’ve seen, no noticeable intelligence at all.) JFC—it just never ends.

I actually missed that. But yeah none. Not even a member of the committee but he is deeply devoted to protecting Trump at all costs and that’s all that matters. Can the candidates please talk about how dysfunctional our exec branch is? It’s crazy.

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, which created among other things the office of DNI, requires “Any individual nominated for appointment as Director of National Intelligence shall have extensive national security expertise.” Collins doesn’t even come close to meeting that bar.

I am going with Warren, too. The way she demolished Bloomberg is only a preview of what she will do to Cheeto, debate or not. Cheeto has incomparably more garbage on him than Bloomberg does, and he is not even a fraction as smart. Warren, in fact, has so much bad-assery available that she was able to graciously donate some to her rival Amy Klobuchar when Amy was being beaten up by Mayor Pete. All the loathsome Republican traitors have on Warren is the Pocahontas bullshit, and I predict that that will backfire spectacularly on them.

Correct. Even that “central casting” hack from Texas whose name escapes me was at least on the committee I believe and a former prosecutor. Collins is only being considered because he’s a Trump loyalist. Trumps cabinet is a clusterfuck.

It’s never been my belief that Trump went into Election Night ‘16 expecting to win. Every indication has been that he and his cohorts expected to come close enough to whine about “voter fraud” or “electoral fraud” and give him a platform to spend years whining to the ignorant masses about how he was “cheated” out of the presidency. So when he won, it totally defied his expectations and left him with the impression that there had to be something about him that led to his victory.

This is why he is so vehemently against any other explanation for ‘16, but in particular the suggestion that Russian interference juiced the numbers in his favor. His insistence that any interference was actually in favor of the Democrats really fits in here, because it makes his “win” seem even more amazing to him, that he overcame efforts by Dems to rig the election to win by a “landslide.”

Another possibility: His craven performance at the July 2018 summit suggests that perhaps Putin showed him the receipts that he really did not win — that perhaps they even manipulated the vote count. He knows he is owned by Russia and has decided that is fine because Putin has shown him the way to install a family dynasty so that his offspring will rule this country when he finishes his two terms. And he is acquiring immense wealth by looting the treasury.

I do not get her whole thing. She was a state senator who lost big time when she ran statewide. She’s also as you have noted an opportunist. She rags on the Clintons but they campaigned for her unlike Bernie whose career as a campaigner for other candidates is younger than mine.

A simple way to get a Berner’s head to explode: Ask them to explain how Bernie will make all his magic policies happen without win Congressional supermajorities. Any answer that revolves around “massive protests” or “poll numbers” is not serious, because if those worked then Trump would have been gone ages ago.

I swear dude. It’s like they don’t understand how government works. Bernie would be lucky to get some EOs out and maybe some legislation but not what Nina is promising there. 2022 would be Speaker McCarthy and 2024.

In Wuhan Coronavirus news,

That’s distinctly not good news. My morning student and I were talking about this, and he said he wouldn’t be at all surprised if it’s already spreading here in Czech Republic as a silent epidemic, coinciding with cold and flu season. And according to long-term weather forecasts, we’re likely in for an early - and warm - spring….and that means allergy season kicks off, and people might well dismiss coronavirus symptoms as hay fever.

Hope that Anymouse soon returns to us — otherwise night time tends to be very quiet.

Tales from the COVID-19 front: a South Korean woman infected at least 37 people at her church — and possibly many more. She was confident that she did not have the virus because she had not traveled abroad. Very troubling story, if accurate.

What’s more troubling is that trump overrode the CDC recommendations and opted to bring all affected Americans back to the US. No idea of any protocols being used when they return. That, is troubling. But it’s not like trump knows anything or cares about anything.

This is from my Start menu (or whatever it’s called these days) and when I clicked to go to the news pages…look at the placement of this article Midway down the page of articles. As per Wiki:

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), formerly known as 2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease, is an infectious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, a virus closely related to the SARS virus

en.wikipedia.org

That’s the proper nomenclature for this particular outbreak. Me, I’m a bit old school, so I just informally refer to it as “Wuhan Coronavirus”, being as Wuhan is were it originated and it’s a coronavirus disease.

78
Dr Lizardo  Feb 21, 2020 • 3:43:40am

With the reported deaths in Iran, and now this precautionary self-quarantine (for lack of a better term) in Italy, it looks like we might well be on threshold of a true pandemic.

Why would they call it Novel? If SARS-CoV-2 is a (the?) cause of COVID-19 does that mean Novel = Cause? To me, Novel means variant…but it does not seem that is the case.

I realize that those pics are of the extreme. But a floating apartment complex is not my idea of a good time.

I am glad you both enjoyed your cruise…and the underside of Ensenada!

Did you ever hear of a show called LOOK? It was on Showtime in the states years ago and it was all CTV with a story was built around the CTV action. It fascinated me. One of the episodes showed someone putting boogers on the handrail of an escalator and then all the people who touched it thereafter. (Found it! It was a movie first. Who knew? More about the show.)

That is literally seared into my brain and I now can never go anywhere without thinking about that. Not that it’s debilitating or anything but it is definitely creepy AF.

Trump vs. the Intelligence Community (reality).

“…A narcissist cannot look too closely (there is usually not much depth there) at himself, because this could possibly reveal, to him, the split between his grandiose persona and the primitive, underdeveloped, and/or empty self which the persona is created to cover up. He has no capacity to cope with this knowledge, so it must be denied: his existence depends on this denial. Of course he does not put it in those terms, but rather as a necessity of defending himself from “big trouble” caused by others, who could use this knowledge against him somehow.”

Collins must have an inkling that Trump ain’t getting re-elected and that if he takes the DNI job, he’s out of a job come January next year when there’s a new administration. Why go for that when he has at least a shot at a six-year job in the Senate?

In the wake of Mr Trump’s acquittal in the Senate, pollsters suspect that such a bias could be affecting polls. Courtney Kennedy, the director for survey research at the Pew Research Center, says that there is a ‘strong possibility’ that the recent uptick in Mr Trump’s ratings has a wave of optimistic Republicans as its source. She says that outlets can control this problem by adjusting their data to have the correct shares of Democratic- and Republican-leaning voters, but the idea is relatively new and few pollsters have data good enough to perform such corrections.”

But I like Biden the most at this point. I kept on going back to the that that the most ideologically moderate Dem I’ve ever voted for in an gubernatorial race here is delivering some of the most progressive legislation we’ve had in Virginia. That said, I understand why each other candidate has their appeal even Bernie who I immensely dislike and Bloomberg who I feel is too corporate though Saghen did make a nice point explaining his NYC tax policy.

You really miss a lot if you skip out on a movie because it’s subtitled IMO. I’d much rather watch a subtitled foreign movie than a dubbed one. It was darkly funny. The weird thing is that Trump brought up Gone with the Wind in Colorado of all places and Sunset Boulevard which is about a delusional has been movie star. Interestingly, Czech PM Andrej Babiš recently decided that he’s not even gonna bother meeting the 2% NATO defense spending commitment - after promising that the Czech Republic would do so at the 2017 NATO summit.

The story floating around behind Babiš’ change of mind is that Babiš has privately told his government colleagues that he strongly believes Trump’s not gonna get re-elected and that a new POTUS, whomever that may be, will most likely drop the whole matter and with Trump gone, Babiš reckons that the Czech Republic has nothing to really worry about.

Alberta only has two major cities and a limited economy. It’s also completely landlocked. They would never survive on their own. It’s basically the Canadian Texas (i.e. one of the most conservative parts of this country) so this talk shouldn’t come as a surprise.

And yes, I suspect Russia might be involved.

I’m watching a Belorussian one now about occupied life during WWII.

Is it Come and See (Иди и смотри)?

If it is, you’re in for one helluva ride. It’s considered one of the most important anti-war films ever made and one of the greatest WWII films of all time. It’s all one of the most brutal films I’ve ever seen - there are parts of it that make Schindler’s List look like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

No, it’s called Okhota na gaulyaytera (Hunting the Gauleitner.) It’s a miniseries. My only complaint is that the German spoken is dubbed into Belorussian and then subtitled in English. You can find it on Prime. But yeah this is pretty brutal so far. It doesn’t shy away from the fact that there were people in the USSR that collaborated with the Nazis.

I could vote for either. Joe, because he’s pretty steady and Trump wouldn’t rattle him; Warren, because after she took the bark off Bloomberg the other night I’m pretty sure she’d be able to rattle Trump pretty good.

I’m pretty much good with anybody but Bernie (potential Mondale-scale whupping in store) and Pete (not a big enough personality, Trump would eat his lunch).

From the day they left the hospital, the one-year risk of at least one rehospitalization for any reason in Medicare beneficiaries who suffered a heart attack like Sanders’ was about 50 percent (the baseline annual risk among his age cohort is more like 1 in 6). Again, by virtue of four incident-free months on the trail, that number is now lower for Sanders. But his chance of another hospitalization between now and November alone likely remains between 30-35 percent. While the daily risk is low, around 0.17 percent, we have more than 250 days to go until Election Day. The risks add up.

If he gets the nom and then has a heart attack and trump wins and I become an alcoholic/drug addict…

The double standards on it infuriate me. I remember HRC getting sick meant she was dying but Bernie who who will be older than HRC would have been for her entire presidency and had a much more severe health related incident means nothing. I know I said I’m for Biden. I am but I would hope that Biden would have a strong VP and cabinet that he could delegate a lot to. I don’t trust Bernie at delegation at all. Bernie’s not worth the risk and I hope he keeps on getting hounded about how untransparent he’s been.

I think it has to be one or the other with someone younger. But yes, Biden has the ability to really fix a lot of our relationships that have been hurt by Trump. Biden as president but without the Senate = 4 years of nothing accomplished. He’ll be too busy “working with” the allegedly reasonable Republicans to get anything passed. That was Obama’s biggest weakness as well. This is why the “never Trumpers” like Biden - he won’t have the same coat tails and he won’t accomplish anything that threatens their tax cuts. Even if he does get the senate for 2 years (the most he’ll get) I’d bet little of consequence and even less to repair the previous 4 years will get passed.

I really think a lot of people read way too much into him talking about that. I read that as him contrasting how hyper-partisan Trump is and how Biden wouldn’t just be the President of the Democrats but the President of all Americans. I understand the criticism and I definitely think he comes off naive when he talks about Congressional Republicans but I think he’s the best choice for a big knockout punch.

Bloomberg would definitely be a team player. He hates Trump. He loathes Trump. If he doesn’t get the nomination, his entire campaign team/staff/budget will magically transform into a Super-PAC supporting whoever the D’s nominate.

Yeah I agree. I don’t want him to be top dog but as an ally against Trump, absolutely.

He’s already announced that his entire campaign staff would be employed for the duration, whether or not he’s the nominee.

Like Sagehen said, there’s mucho bad blood between Bloomberg and Trump. Mike is ready to spend big money to bring Trump down, and his staff is on point. They would be a great asset to whoever gets the nom.

While true, it’s still a struggle for disabled people to find work that will support them financially.

Here in GA we have a cool program put together by the late Tommy Nobis, called Nobis Works. My son went through it after high school. He learned a lot and is now employed outside the program by his own skills in landing a job.

But, while in the program, he made minimum wage. He worked for Kroger through them and it was hard for him to get Kroger to see beyond his autism. That’s why he quit and went out on his own. He’s making almost double minimum wage, but it’s still not enough to survive on his own, even with roommates.

Of course this is true for everyone right now, wages have not kept up with housing costs and other expenses. We’re still lagging way behind on helping everyone get some equal footing in this country.

Larry Tesler, the guy who invented cut/copy/paste, died: bbc.com. I thought this was funny:

One of Mr Tesler’s firmest beliefs was that computer systems should stop using “modes”, which were common in software design at the time.

Modes allow users to switch between functions on software and apps but make computers both time-consuming and complicated.

So strong was this belief that Mr Tesler’s website was called “nomodes.com”, his Twitter handle was “@nomodes”, and even his car’s registration plate was “No Modes”.

Tom Petty’s Biographer on the Story He Didn’t Tell
Author Warren Zanes shares a tale of loss, memory, and the search for the perfect cup of coffee.
But let me first say this about coffee: When it’s time to conduct an interview, I always show up with a large cup. Because the last thing you want when you’re asking questions about a person’s life and work is to sit across from that person struggling to stay awake. Do that, and you’ve lost them. At the same time, you don’t want too much coffee. Starbucks sells some overly large cups of coffee.

My son has at least 3 close friends on the spectrum and none of them are currently employed. Two get disability and one is lucky enough to have a very supportive and pretty well off family. Two also have bipolar disorder and anxiety/depression disorders and one has a seizure disorder that is controlled with medication. My son doesn’t have those particular struggles(except the anxiety disorder part, which is tough enough) but he’s still having trouble finding a good job that pays enough. He works at a warehouse for a dept store chain right now, I’m hoping they value his work ethic and persistence when it comes time for raises.

My old neighbor in Lubbock has advised me of a police raid in the old ‘hood this morning. According to her, about a dozen ninja-suited SWAT types rode into the front yard of a nearby house on a “tank” (presumably LPD’s surplus MRAP) and immediately kicked the front door in. They were armed with the usual black rifles, shotguns, and what looked like a belt-fed machine gun and a .50 cal rifle. (The neighbor doesn’t know armored vehicles but she does know guns.) About 20 other cops had quietly moved into the alley and the neighboring yards a little earlier. They were accompanied by some tough-looking types in suits. They emerged a few minutes later with 3 sullen looking white people in handcuffs. The crime scene detectives and others, my guess is DEA, are still there.

I’m seeing more and more foreign movies and tv shows. I saw an Israeli movie yesterday in the theater and I’m watching a Belorussian one now about occupied life during WWII.

I like to watch movies in other languages, especially if it’s a movie that I have already seen in English. All Blu-Ray movies come with a choice of language, for Region A (North America) it’s English, Spanish (Mexican) and French (Canadian). Disney film especially are fun to watch in other languages. I have Rapunzel and Frozen in German and Hunchback of Notre Dame in French: Canadian French but I think it is better than the European French version that I have seen excerpts from online.

Even Bloomberg, if it came to that. He’d get under Trump’s skin for sure, and we’ll need that from whoever emerges.

Warren has already rattled a lot of people. I think it’s one reason that word might have come down from on high in the media markets to try to torpedo her campaign if possible. She is not dealing out platitudes and she is qualified and serious enough that she will try, and probably get, some of her policies passed if elected - and assuming some Senate seats flip Democratic as well.

That my financial adviser mentioned her by name four months ago indicates that in the RW sphere she is already getting noticed and has traction as a threat.

You’re not getting me. I’m merely stating that it gets more and more bizarre every day that this goes on. Of course, they’re going to eat everything he says up. I’m saying that him doing it allows us to counter that he’s a lazy piece of shit POTUS that does nothing but goes to rally to bitch about whatever is up his ass at the moment. He’s not going to win the narrative. He actually has to defend his record now. I think as we get closer to November, more people are going to see just how unhinged he really is. Unfortunately, there’s no way he’s going to get 25thed or landslided but i think he’s beatable and I think he’s giving us ammo.

re: #344 NO SMOCKING GUN!

So, they can’t get unanimous verdicts on counts 1 and 3, which limits the counts that are in play - and that depends on whether they were deadlocked on the Sciorra or Haley portion of the count.

Five counts:

Count 1: Predatory Sexual Assault (Miriam Haley/Annabella Sciorra)
lf you find the defendant guilty of Count One, Predatory Sexual Assault, then do not consider Count Two, and instead proceed to consider Count Three. lf you find the defendant not guilty of Count One, Predatory Sexual Assault in the First Degree, for the reason that the People have failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant committed the crime of either Rape in the First Degree or Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree against Annabella Sciorra, then you must also find the defendant not guilty of Count Three, and then proceed to consider Counts Two, Four and Five. lf you find the defendant not guilty of Count One, Predatory Sexual
Assault for the reason than that the People have failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant committed the crime of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree against Miriam Haley, then you must also find the defendant not guilty of Count Two and proceed to Counts Three, Four and Five.

2 Criminal Sexual Act in the First Deoree (Miriam Halev)

3 Predatory Sexual Assault (Jessica Mann / Annabella Sciorra)
lf you find the defendant guilty of Count Three, Predatory Sexual Assault, then do not consider Counts Four and Five. lf you find the defendant not guilty of Count Three, Predatory Sexual Assault in the First Degree for the reason that the people have failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant committed the crime of either Rape in the First Degree or Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree against Annabella Sciorra, then you must proceed to consider Counts Four and Five. lf you find the defendant not guilty of Count Three, predatory Sexual Assault, for the reason than that the people have failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant committed the crime of Rape in First Degree against Jessica Mann, then you the must.find the defendant not guilty of Count Four and proceed to consider Count Five.

Count 4:
Rape in First Degree (Jessica Mann)

Count 5:
Rape in the Third Degree (Jessica Mann)

re: #360 Yeah Sure WhatEVs

Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez, one of the candidates to get an endorsement, is running in the Democratic primary in the race to challenge Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas. She will be competing in a crowded field of Democratic candidates, including MJ Hegar, who has been endorsed by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the campaign arm for Senate Democrats.

Two of the candidates are mounting primary challenges to incumbent House Democrats and have been previously endorsed by Ocasio-Cortez: Marie Newman, a Democrat challenging Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski in Illinois and Jessica Cisneros, a Democrat challenging Democratic Rep. Henry Cueller in Texas.

One of the candidates, Kara Eastman in Nebraska, is running in the Democratic primary to challenge Republican Rep. Don Bacon.

That’s not a bad list. I think Hegar has the slot here in Texas, but otherwise, go for it.

TBH I find the thing offputting. AOC is a freshman in a safe blue district and won her primary last time in part due to low turnout and the incumbent being a moron who took his renomination for granted. I don’t want her purged or anything like that but I think she should at least try to gain some more experience before she deem herself a kingmaker. I do find it interesting that these are all women and AOC is a Bernieloyalist and Bernie claims to be against so called identity politics. Nothing wrong with campaigning to elect more women but I find it sort of funny given Bernie.

I feel somewhat disturbed that the likes of AOC are so certain that their progressive activism is a winning platform that they can campaign against incumbent Democrats.

Maybe I’m just getting old, but I get the feeling that a lot of young people are not really as tuned into the world as they like to think.

We are a nation where a rather diverse but still somewhat conservative view of the world dominates. Even among long time Democrats, the general feeling is to stick with older ways (especially in regards to religion) rather than a radical form of “progressive”.

If I were to rank what I think are the hills to die on, they would be:
(1) remove remaining political disenfranchisement, and
(2) fix any lingering bigotry in the justice system.

To me those should be no-brainers and certainly most Democrats would agree.

But if you’re campaigning on such gimmicks as eliminating college debt, or taxing churches, etc., those are just too segment-specific to go all crazy in undermining your party.

I don’t want to dismiss her since it’s a credit to our democratic system that she challenged successfully a Democratic incumbent in the leadership but AOC is based out of a district that would probably go Democratic if I ran there and didn’t bother to campaign. We didn’t flip the House with her district. Is her district important? Absolutely but she’s part of a coalition of representatives with vastly different interests than NY-14.

I mean she has my respect don’t get me wrong. She’s the only House member younger than I am and she saw her civic duty and ran with it. That’s great. It’s what Democracy is all about but she seems not to understand that any Democrat would win her district. She campaigned against people like Sharice Davids who did. I dunno. I like AOC but she needs to focus more on being a representative than a celebrity. She’s young though so she I think can become a more pragmatic politically speaking politician. She wouldn’t be the first.

re: #381 Blind Frog Belly White

The ground work for the collapse of the GOP into a cesspit of atavism was laid long before the Tea Party.

We need to look at the long run of how to make changes. Changes don’t happen by fiat (except in a dictatorship.) Change happens as generations turn over, which means change is slow.

And slow means finding ways of building bridges in critical political districts. Such as happened last time here in San Diego county, when Car Thief finally was not longer representing that (rich) part of the county. It took several elections to flip that district to (D).

If you look at “purple” districts, like the two in Iowa which flipped last election to (D), they can flip right back to (R) if the electorate perceives a threat.

We live in a country where a third of the people still think the world was created 6000 years ago.

Working in a society like that is never going to allow the type of progressivism that AOC wants. It just isn’t going to work.

Which is why I never encourage Democratic candidates to go all atheist in their public discourses, because claiming such non-beliefs is still seen as outcast in our society.

re: #373 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

As a middle-aged fogie myself, I think far too many people my age and older don’t have much of a clue what’s going on either. The whole point of “OK, Boomer” was to push back on the “back in my day I worked a part time job and went to college, so you can just suck up your college debt” and “give up avacado toast and buy a house,” neither of which work today. And then there’s the whole generation growing up on training at school to dodge bullets. None of those things are workable in the long run.

I like most of the incumbant challenges they are backing. Lipinski and Cuellar need to be replaced. I think the Cornyn one isn’t going to work, but as long as they back Hegar, that’s ok.

As someone said back after the 2016 election, these “kids” have grown up on Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and a whole host of fiction telling them that not only can they not rely on adults to take care of them, but that the adults may be part of the problem. We can’t just expect them to just vote as we see fit. We kinda messed it up. It’s going to be their world.

Our system is designed to make change slow. Staggered elections and diffuse powers not only among the three federal branches but between the federal and state governments, should temper passions and compel consensus building. At least that was the idea, especially when you had the state legislatures between voters and the selection of Senators and electors between voters and the presidential election.

Of course, we’ve also seen over the last four years how much our institutions rely on honest and decent people being generally honorable in order to function properly.

One of the people I got to sign was a Northam backer who just happened to be the then State Senator in our county seat who is now our Congresswoman. Bernie’s people think it has to be Bernie or nothing. They need to combine their genuine want for change to help elect likeminded candidates. Otherwise, they’re just dickbags. I hate the Tea Party but they knew how to fall in once they lost.

About that idea that Bernie will bring out the young voters:

Iowa caucus turnout was disappointing.
NH primary turnout was up, but inline with the increase in voting-age population over 2008.

If the NV caucuses keep this trend, I think we should dispense with the idea that Bernie will bring out a surge of young voters.

You have to understand that by supporting Trump who hates our international system of alliances and Bernie who is uninterested at best in foreign affairs is that Russia benefits from having one of them in the WH since it allows Russia to threaten the sovereignty of its neighbors unchecked and what’s more is Bernie and Trump are both polarizing figures too. I don’t know if Bernie outright encourages interference on his behalf like Trump did but he does benefit from it and he has consistently since 2016.

I actually hate Ryan more than Trump. I figured out Trump was human garbage when I was a teenager in the 1980s (forgive me for not being real impressed that the Micheal Cohens and Anthony Scaramuccis only recently came to that realization), so I am horrified but not surprised by how he conducts himself as POTUS.

As recently as three years ago, Paul Ryan claimed to be opposed to a huge part of what Trump stands for. Within a few months he was enabling the big orange baby. Rather than going back to being a backbench congressman from the armpit of Wisconsin last year, he quit…yet he is STILL looking to placate Trump from the sidelines.

Maybe he could put them in a binder for us.

Mike Bloomberg on Friday announced he would release women from three non-disclosure agreements if they wanted to speak publicly about sexual harassment while working at his media company.

The decision came two days after Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren blasted the media mogul’s record with women on Wednesday night’s debate stage. Bloomberg rebuffed her demand he release female employees from the gag agreements but has since reversed that stance.

So lunch and shopping today with my sister and a friend — so three old white ladies all at least 70 years old. The only positions in common were absolute hatred of Trump, belief that his reelection would doom our nation, and total dislike of Bernie.

My sister, whose favorite is Klobuchar, insisted that none of the current crop of candidates has the stage presence to defeat Trump and that (as many of us believe) he will not debate anyone. (My sister always said that the only Democrat Trump would debate was Marianne Williamson). She hasn’t seen more than a few minutes of debates because of her schedule.

The friend supports Bloomberg and believes he has the best chance of defeating Trump; she watched the debate and criticized Warren for shouting and being shrill and hated the attacks on Bloomberg; she shares the circular firing squad narrative. She also (and here I agree with her) thought the questions were terrible — that they should have been more real issue oriented.

But let’s hope Bernie does not get a plurality and that Elizabeth somehow manages to overcome the MSM attempts to eliminate her.

He also like Rubio is super flakey. I really think the GOP’s actions the past decade are based on they had no idea how to respond to Obama being the first Democrat since FDR to get over 50% of the popular vote twice and I have to admit that I took for granted how hard that was. I’d personally love to see Warren take Trump to the woodshed in a debate.

Yes, me too.

But, as Newt told Ripley when Ripley said the Colonial Marines were tough hombres, “It won’t make any difference.”

People who were going to vote for Trump anyway will think he won, even if she has him down on the mat and he’s tapping out like mad.

Honestly, I’d like to see more of the candidates go after him loudly. It shouldn’t be just Bloomberg. As someone with a heart condition, I’m infuriated with how dishonest he’s been about that. No idea but Biden did have a big role in overturning Reagan’s veto against sanctions in South Africa.

And much credit to the late Ron Dellums.

Working to end apartheid was one of Dellums’ primary legacies when he left a 27-year career in Congress in 1998. Dellums first introduced a sanctions bill in 1972…

The anti-apartheid movement in the United States was nascent in the early 1970s, but Dellums pushed for sanctions year after year. Success came in 1986, when the House passed Dellums’ legislation.

Then-President Ronald Reagan rejected a Senate version of the bill, but his veto was overridden. It was the first time in the 20th Century that Congress overrode a foreign-policy veto, according to Dellums’ office.

“…instead of limiting the definition of off-limits government benefits to welfare payments and subsidized long-term institutionalization, the new policy would expand the definition to include a wider range of common government benefits:

All of the status quo benefits list above (SSI, TANF, general assistance, and long-term institutional care)
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly knowns as “Food Stamps”
Section 8 housing and rental assistance
Federal housing subsidies
Nonemergency Medicaid benefits (with exceptions for children under 21, people with disabilities, pregnant women, and mothers within 60 days after giving birth)

A “public charge” denial would be triggered if someone has received one or more of the above public benefits, for more than 12 months in aggregate within any 36-month period. Receipt of two benefits in one month counts as two months.

Same here. What I need to see from a not-Trump Republican before believing in their sincerity is two things:

1) A clear admission that Trump is the perfection of movement conservatism, and that everything the left has said about the right for decades has basically been proven true.

2) Some evidence of a more general repudiation of the willful ignorance, gross stupidity, malice and bigotry that are so characteristic of Republicans, as opposed to merely despising Trump.

re: #551 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

Over the past year, the local American Independent (Wallace racists) have actually grown more than the Republicans.

Don’t know what to make of that.

Total county registration is up only +27k. The Undeclared are way down, though they still outnumber the Republicans.

But isn’t that usually just people thinking they’re registering as independents? At least in California, most of the American Independent Party people seem to be people who would probably have put down No Party Preference, the California equivalent of Independent.
