Feb. 21 | Abby O’Neill — “If you’ve never been to a Drumhedz show… …we’re gonna take you on a quick journey as if you’re going through a record store,” Chris Dave told the NPR Music offices at the top of his set, “picking up different genres of music and putting it in your bag.”

Chris Dave is reasonably described as your favorite drummer’s favorite drummer, or better yet, your favorite musician’s favorite drummer. As a veteran session artist in the music industry, he’s recorded and written with everyone from D’Angelo to Adele. The Houston native leads the Drumhedz behind a trap set, with his unorthodox, stacked crash cymbals and percussive toys.

The set snuck in with a serpentine flute line that any ’70s heist flick would be proud to have. Sonic smash-cuts between the musical ideas whisk away the misconception you’re in control of the ride you’re about to take. Vocalist and new Drumhedz member, Aaron Camper gathered the audience with a quick invocation, putting his unique range and texture on full display.

Elzhi, formerly of Slum Village, Detroit’s true-school hip-hop outfit, surprised the room with an unannounced cameo, reprising his rapid-fire cadence on “Whatever” and inciting the crowd to nod along as the Drumhedz segued into “Tainted,” Slum Village’s turn-of-the-millennium jam.

On “Clear View,” Camper and the Drumhedz ushered in ’60s psychedelia reminiscent of Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit,” as if interpreted by Curtis Mayfield. Atmospheric keys played by Daniel Crawford ran roughshod over the mix, while Chris Dave, with his gift for syncopation, fostered a musical space for his bandmates to shine.

The melodic journey ended with a praise-song of gratitude and love of family called “Job Well Done.” It was clear that Chris Dave and the Drumhedz had done just that.

Chlorinated chicken will not be imported into the UK after Brexit, ministers have said.

Trade Secretary Liz Truss is to publish a blueprint for trade talks with the United States on Monday.

The commies who supported the thing already seem convinced that it’ll do nothing but create a whole lot more Castro fans and Chavistas.

Didn’t Limbaugh try getting people to do something like that in ‘08? I feel like it gets talked up a lot but never actually happens. Because most people just aren’t big enough assholes to do something like that.

Relatedly, I did early voting today. I’m an independent so could vote in the D primary (first time I’ve ever done that). Voted for Warren. Nice to actually vote for someone again, rather than against someone (which I feel like has been my general voting experience in my life)

People who show up for emergency treatment (which they cannot afford, forcing hospitals and ultimately those who are insured to bear the costs) instead of seeking simple preventive care that would have cost a fraction of an emergency operation.

Possibly. Apparently preventable hospital admissions are admissions that could have been prevented with outpatient primary care. Looks like the highest are congestive heart failure and diabetes.

Preventable Admissions -> #47

“This metric evaluates the number of preventable hospital admissions in a state per 100,000 Medicare beneficiaries. The data, collected in 2016, was gathered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. When patients with acute illness or worsening chronic conditions are treated properly at primary care facilities, it prevents their chances of needed ambulatory services and inpatient time at a hospital. States with lower rates of preventable hospital admissions scored higher.”

President Trump encouraged his supporters to vote in South Carolina’s Democratic primary for the candidate who would be easiest for him to beat — a move being called “Operation Chaos.”

But state Democrats say there’s no “mass evidence” that this occurred.

Anecdotal, from my precinct—I voted at 3 pm (yeah, I voted for Joe—felt I had to) and was #157.

For comparisons (again, just my precinct):

2019—non-partisan city council election
171 total

2018 general (one of the few non minority/majority precincts that eked out blue)
Dem 216
Rep 209

2016—presidential primary
Dem 112
Rep 180

And all those numbers and 3 bucks will get you an overpriced cup of coffee.

More tonight, as the #s come in.

While there are many nursing home providers that have very few lawsuits or citations brought against them, others seem to have more than their fair share. One facility to which this applies is Life Care Centers of America.
nursinghomeabuseguide.org

Life Care Center of America facilities have been fined numerous times by Medicare. They have paid approximately $2 million in fines since 2000 for 44 separate violations. This included a $444,000 fine assessed to one of its locations in 2016. While not all Life Care Center of America homes receives poor ratings from Medicare, the chain has a meaningful proportion of its nursing homes that have received the one-star rating from Medicare.

The chain also settled a False Claims Act lawsuit with the federal government in 2016

“The thing that’s scary to me, is there’s not many cases in New York, but obvious there’s people like me who are coming back from places that have a lot of infections,” he said.
The man, who will go by ‘John’ by anonymity, recently spent five days in Tokyo on business. When he returned home this week, he just knew he had a problem.

At NYU Brooklyn, they put him in isolation, and ran a battery of tests for other things - all negative. Then, per protocol, they called the CDC, because NYU Suspect COVID-19, but the CDC said no.

The CDC says they thought he wasn’t sick enough - even though public health experts say most coronavirus cases are more minor, and it flies in the face of what the CDC said on a press call on Friday.

snip

John says he may not even have coronavirus, but wouldn’t the government want to know?

“I came in, I’m sick - I have symptoms like coronavirus, but I’m not tested, which means I don’t have coronavirus. If you’re not testing anybody, then no one’s infected, right?” he said.

After he was sent home the first time on Thursday, the CDC added Japan as a country of concern where people should be able to get tested for coronavirus.

John called the hospital again, and said because he is not actually hospitalized, they still can’t give him the test. NYU Langone said they were just following guidelines from the CDC.

See, the major problem here is that hot dogs are repulsive.

It was the paperclip slicer that grossed me out (well, that plus the pop in the cheese)

It would have been easier to just use bologna.

While Biden winning SC is fine, I more want Bernie to finish down in the pack. We need to de-specialize Bernie in the eyes of those who think he’s been crowned already.

I’m afraid I haven’t been following the polls, but what little I heard seemed confusing. I don’t think anyone really trusted polling because a lot of people didn’t make up their minds until a day or two ago.

In other words, Biden is explosively in the lead among a major Dem demographic, rather than gambling on the youth vote carrying him to victory.

I’m wondering if Bernie’s 60 minutes interview (i.e. the Castro comments) helped do this - or, to be more specific, black voter fears over losing all of Florida (not just at the presidential level, but downballot as well).

I think Bernie’s rhetoric even previous to that was not being well accepted by that demographic.

A whole lot of people need to read this paragraph:

Obama was a change president, who has left a lasting legacy of improving the lives of millions of Americans. Trump has tried to undo the Obama legacy. In fact, the entire purpose of his administration is to erase the Obama presidency.

Wow! I go to the next Costco outbound, Fairfax. I may stick my head in there Sunday, out of curiosity.

Also out of curiosity, I have been watching the Costco online website for dehydrated and freeze dried “Emergency Food”. It was pretty much wiped out early last week. Since then, one or two items would show up on the page and then disappear within a few hours. And the suppliers have also changed. To be honest, I find grocery store type food far tastier, more filling and less expensive than the freeze dried camping/emergency food anyway.

It would be perfect if Bernie falls below the 15% for viability and Joe wins all the marbles (with 2% reporting, Joe at 50%, Bernie at 19%, Steyer at 12%—and then all the rest.

Pretty sure SDE viability is set at the local level.

I’m only basing that on the fact that I think I heard Steve Kornacki say on TV a bit ago that Steyer was going to get one delegate out of some probably godforsaken district which will make him eligible for one more debate, but I’m also not really sure about any of that because I’m extremely high right now.

It’s the weekend and there’s a pandemic spreading, everyone who isn’t literally doing extremely important public health and nuclear power shit deserves to be extremely high right now
