So far I’m good on my epilepsy meds: I just got another thirty day’s supply in the mail from the VA. My wife has about four months of metformin.

If supply chains break down, I am fubar.

As much as I can sympathize with Stonekettle, all people can do is ask for one extra supply in advance. They can’t, for example, ask for an entire year’s worth. The hoarding in this case is minimal and has more to do with how many are left. He could have gone in a little earlier and asked for a refill earlier.

I get the prescription I most need (not to live, to unstiffen) by paying for it out of pocket. But it’s not a narcotic and not terribly expensive. I realize that lots of people can’t do that.

re: #5 Anymouse 🌹🎃

Supply chains include meds that are formulated or compounded in China or other affected areas internationally, but also domestically as those supply chains all operate on JIT processes. It leaves little slack capacity, and it also means the ability to ramp up making things like masks, or complex items like respirators and other ICU gear even more difficult.

We need MASH units to be built out in NY, WA, NJ, and the hardest hit areas right now, because by the time that hospitals are overflowing is already too late. We have hospital ships that can be useful at a time like this - bring one to NYC harbor, send the other to Seattle. But no. Trump’s sitting on that as he’s done with everything else.

It’s all slow rolling the crisis, and more people affected daily.

I really think that’s the plan. I think Biden for one term and then we have a spirited contest in 2024 with early primaries that are actually reflective not just of the party but the nation too. Sorry Iowa and New Hampshire but time to swallow your fucking pride. All things must come to end so do will your first in the nation status.

Only if those states repeal the laws on their books that automatically move their primaries forward if another state jumps in front of them.

First-in-the-nation is big bux for those two states. They aren’t going to give that up unless you elect a state legislature which repeals those state laws (lol) or the Supreme Court were to strike them down (I don’t see a constitutional issue here, but I’m not a lawyer).

It’s the same argument to “we need to get rid of caucuses.” Caucuses/primaries are set by state law, not the parties. To get rid of caucuses you need to elect a state legislature which will switch them. The only reason we have a primary here in Nebraska this year is the staggering amount of Republicans facing off against each other, and our majority-Republican legislature said “we ain’t paying for that.”

I’m aware of the rules. And other states switched from caucuses to primaries. It can be done. It should be done. I’m very clearly talking about the states.

Their feet have not been held to the fire yet for their inaction over the past three years. Or their acquittal of The Emperor. So why should I expect the media to do so now, or the conservative base to suddenly hold this as sufficient reason to vote Democratic?

And McConnell can publicize it as doing so for health concerns for the entire body, and only has to delay long enough for suitable replacements to be appointed, presuming he can convince some of the incapacitated ones to resign accordingly.

Israel’s government has authorized its Shin Bet security agency to use its phone-surveillance system on coronavirus patients in an effort to control the epidemic, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledging that such measures would “entail a certain degree of violation of privacy.” Shin Bet would employ mobile-phone tracking technology to more precisely model a patient’s movements prior to diagnosis, and identify people who might have been exposed to the virus. In response to privacy concerns, Netanyahu reduced the scope of information to be collected and restricted how many people can view the data, to shield against misuse. Yuval Elovici at Ben-Gurion University’s cybersecurity research center suggested privacy issues can be minimized by culling data anonymously.

Cuomo doesn’t take crap from anyone, and he also like to share credit with anyone else. He fired Andy Byford from MTA because he was getting credit for turning around subway service after it ran into trouble after Cuomo interfered in goals/priorities in order to build out the 2A Subway and other critical issues fell by the wayside.

Never get between Cuomo and a microphone.

But Cuomo is working well with his fellow governors across region, and hopefully they can expand the tristate coordiation to include PA, MA, VT, and OH too. They all have a common enemy and all face the time crunch together.

They’re all doing the thing Trump should be doing - but Trump would rather tweet critiques of debate performances and how well the stock market is doing thanks to rate cuts that don’t stop covid19 spreading.

The Dow is down 10%. S&P is down 9.6%. NASDAQ is down similarly.

All the Trump era stock gains are toast.

And within the next few weeks, we’ll hear that all the jobs gained are also getting vaporized as businesses fold and need to make sure that the millionaire owners of big businesses put their profits above worker needs.

As much as I can sympathize with Stonekettle, all people can do is ask for one extra supply in advance. They can’t, for example, ask for an entire year’s worth. The hoarding in this case is minimal and has more to do with how many are left. He could have gone in a little earlier and asked for a refill earlier.

I think he’s referring to the pharmacist hoarding. You cannot hoard controlled substances unless you have a license to dispense them.

As much as I’d like to hoard Phenobarbital, I cannot. I can’t even get more than thirty day’s supply for a vacation trip.

If he were a smarter man, I might think this was part of a grand plan to totally undermine the federal government’s credibility by showing it as feckless, ineffective, and overall useless in a time of national crisis.

But to accuse him of having a room-temp IQ would be to overestimate his intellect, so it seems more like he just can’t be arsed to do his fucking job.

An “every man for himself” approach is what is happening in the nation’s grocery stores. As anybody who has actually visited those stores in the last week knows, the result is bare shelves and a whole lot of assholes sitting on stockpiles of shit they don’t need and depriving those who do of vital supplies.

But I guess federal coordination and resource management smacks too much of “socialism.”

It was first found in China, affects more Chinese than anyone else so far (though that’ll turn into a lowball estimate as the US fails to contain it, and follows Italy into the abyss.

It was naturally occurring and jumped to humans as so many other diseases have done. Daily update from the University of Nebraska Medical Center:

Daily updates will be posted every afternoon

March 16

A 24-bed unit within the Nebraska Medical Center has been dedicated and segmented for confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients who require hospital care. The unit has negative air pressure throughout. Two COVID patients who had been treated in the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit have been moved to this new unit. The Biocontainment Unit is now empty and will be used as a surge location going forward.

A 16-year-old boy from Crofton, Neb, who had been treated in the Biocontainment Unit was discharged today after three negative tests for COVID-19.

A 36-year-old Omaha woman remains in critical condition. One evacuee from the Diamond Princess cruise ship who had suffered a fall remains in good condition.

Four other evacuees from the Diamond Princess group departed the National Quarantine Unit in the last 24 hours, leaving one guest from that group in the quarantine unit.

For those who might be experiencing symptoms, instructions are available here. This link also offers resources, guidelines and links to trusted sources for area residents and businesses as they take measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Cases in the U.S. have reached about 3,800, with 70 deaths. Worldwide, cases stand at about 175,000, with about 6,700 deaths.

Made a point of reminding people the US military medical treatment apparatus is configure to treat battlefield trauma, not infectious diseases.
It’s US based healthcare system is designed with a younger patient make up in mind.
Hospital ship’s stacked medical wards are far from what is called for when treating/isolating infectious patients
Calling up National Guard/Reserve medical units will more than likely pull care providers from facilities already facing heavy burdens

Because while most of us will pay, there are plenty that won’t. There should be an easy way to say “Hey, I need to wait a week due to X” but there would be will people to take advantage of it.

OTOH, the fact that AT&T is suspending data cap limits at a time when data usage is going to go up does indicate that those caps are meaningless.

We’re undergoing something similar, with all the staff being cut down to 4 days a week and the contract workers we had in housekeeping being let go. If you want to get that full 40 hrs, you either draw on PTO or “Disaster Relief” days (of which we get 5 a year). And with people fleeing the jurisdiction, we’ll be down to 1/3 capacity by Friday.

NJ issued statewide curfew from 8pm to 5am.

All casinos, bars, movie theaters, nightclubs, performing arts centers and gyms must shut down at 8 p.m. Monday and will remain closed until further notice in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, the three governors announced Monday. People can no longer go to a restaurant to dine in, but restaurants can still provide delivery and take-out. The businesses must remain closed until the state governments say so.

“Everyone needs to stay in and be safe,” Murphy said in a phone call with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont to announce the new restrictions. “And we can’t say this enough, that everyone needs to stay in and be safe and just because you don’t feel sick, and this is a particular shout-out to our young people, it doesn’t mean you aren’t carrying the virus. And the last thing that anyone should be thinking about is going out and spreading the disease.”

61 cases in my county (most in NJ).

Depends upon the set-up. We already have a continental breakfast here and despite the prominent sets of tongs everywhere, the guests still insist on reaching their dirty fingers into the cases and feeling around to grab the food. Once witnesses a dickwad, right in front of me (an employee) reach in and grab a couple of hard-boiled eggs one morning with his fingers.

There’s a reason I’ve sworn off ever eating anything from the breakfast room.

I imagine the only excuse for why they haven’t removed the hot items from our breakfast room right now is because most of it is reheated before being served, so the only cost is the electricity for the microwaves and hot plates.

There is a vaccine beginning human trials today but it will take awhile to figure out if it’s effective at all and if it is effective, even longer to get to the people who need it. But, I think it’s a given Trump will do something like this.

JHU: 4110 cases, 71 deaths. 1.8% mortality rate nationwide across US. That’s 18 times higher than seasonal flu. NY currently experiencing a lower mortality rate than that, but Washington state has a far higher rate (42/769 or 5.4%)

Italy: 27980 cases, 2158 deaths - a 7.7% mortality rate. That’s 77 times more deadly than seasonal flu (0.1%)

This disease isn’t going to burn itself out. It’s going to continue spreading across globe and killing a not insignificant number of people and sickening a huge number that require hospitalization and significant medical assistance.

Italy’s rate is inflated because they’re not reporting the mild cases, but still bad.

There was also the HIV epidemic in the 80s and Encephalitis in 1915. en.wikipedia.org

So far, according to en.wikipedia.org, the largest epidemic in the 21st century, the swine flu, has taken at most .5 million lives, which is bad, but by absolute numbers it doesn’t come anywhere close to the large epidemics of the 20th, and it’s even smaller considering the difference in the world population.

SEE WHEN STATES WILL FACE HOSPITAL BED CAPACITY SHORTAGES DURING COVID-19 OUTBREAK

The earliest ICU bed shortages are likely to emerge at the end of March, according to a new analysis.
Amid the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, most states will run out of available intensive care unit (ICU) hospital beds by mid-April, according to a new analysis by Array Advisors.

Washington, a state with the second-most confirmed cases in the country as of Monday afternoon, is expected to hit its ICU capacity by March 30. New York, a state with over 930 cases, is expected to hit its capacity by April 5.

Meanwhile, nearly 20 more states are expected to hit their ICU bed capacity between April 13 to April 23, according to the analysis. Missouri is expected to face an ICU bed shortage by May 7, the latest of any state in the country.

It’s Donald Trump: we have to assume he’s lying/misstating absent solid proof to the contrary: how this cretin has ANY credibility left (outside his cultish “base) is a mystery.

re: #450 Mescalero09

Now ask yourself how the fuck his viewers sort out what he said with what he says now.
But he never said that.
Here’s a video of him saying it.
Out of context.
It’s your words.
But you are twisting them.
You told people to basically lick doorknobs and mosh nude.
It was opinion.
“SEE?!? HE HAD IT RIGHT ALL ALONG. WE LOVE HANNITY!!!”

“i dont know what he said yesterday
i only know what he said today”

re: #459 Shiplord Kirel, Friend of Moose and Squirrel

Remember, gang, even if 2 million people die and the economy doesn’t recover for a hundred years, the depraved Trump cult still has what it wants: Frightened and tormented brown people for the goobers, third world wages and deregulation for the gentry, charter school loot and theocrat judges for the Dominionists, tax cuts for the fatcats.
There must be NO reconciliation, compromise, or “binding up of wounds” from the next administration. The evil coalition that elected Trump must be scourged and broken up and the ringleaders punished.

scorched earth
no quarter
no consideration
no prisoners

annihilate them (im using it so much im remembering the spelling)

fuck mr “i don’t take responsibility at all” and the party he rode in on

It’s looking like we’re going to postpone our trip to Germany this May until next year. We’ll see, but it doesn’t look good now.

If Canada closes the border with the USA as is being discussed in some political circles there, it is definitely off.

I don’t expect this to calm down before the end of June at the earliest.

Beside the mango trees outside my house, I got avocado connections here on the rock.

If you know the right people they’re trying to pawn as many off on you as possible when the glut comes. And the gluts, they will come.

Without televised sporting events will we really need avocados? ///

re: #231 Targetpractice

For those who haven’t heard, the airlines are begging for $50 billion (with a “b”) to cover their losses to-date.

Where’s their fucking bootstraps to themselves up with? Why do they need welfare? Fucking moochers.
