So Today, Trump Edited His Prepared Notes to Make Them More Racist

Politics • Views: 28,197

Washington Post photographer Jabin Botsford captured a very revealing shot at today’s press conference and posted it to Twitter, proving a point I’ve made many times about the Trump-thing: his racism is a deliberate con man’s strategy, to manipulate the right wing base and the media, and deflect blame away from himself for his pathetically incompetent, bungled response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Because he crossed out the word “Corona” in his prepared speech and replaced it with “Chinese.”

He knows what the Fox News audience wants to hear.

This discussion is just a red herring he tossed out because he know it a) “pisses off the liberals” and b) distracts from the abysmal job he is doing in preparing the nation for an increase in COVID-19 cases.

Will you stop saying that? It’s not just that. It’s getting Asian Americans attacked by racist assholes. It hasn’t distracted at all from his failings either. In fact, I think it’s amplifying that.

The reason Trump told the governors he can’t help because he doesn’t KNOW WHAT THE FUCK TO DO and neither do most of the people around him.

The people that DO know what do and should be handling a situation like this? Well, he’s fired most of them and muzzled the rest.

“He Senator Graham, what should I do?”
“What do you want to do?”

And that short-circuits Trump.

Just posted this; I’m starting to see a the discussion in comment threads on Breitbart move from theoretical discussions of mass-murdering liberals … to more overt statements of intended action.

Trump’s supporters can no more sustain the destruction of the lie they’ve been telling themselves than Trump can sustain that blow to his man-baby ego. The alternative is the nationwide bloodbath they’ve longed for.

[Embedded content]

It will collapse on them, but most of them aren’t going to turn into violent people. There will be no conservative revolution, no matter what the Breitbarters hope for. Eventually, the deaths around them and the economic issues will break through, just like the economic issues did in 2008.

Trump supporters are itching to get it on. And as always, “I hate Illinois Nazis.”

Trump knows exactly nothing outside of his personal experience, so when one of his hotels needs additional staff in a hurry he just goes to the temp agency. He thinks this is how you get the top experts working for you too. It’s just the same as calling the temp agency and saying you need another 20 housekeepers for the next 3 days. And nobody will tell him anything different.

Social norms are incredibly hard to adjust, but saving our Valley means starting now. Psychologically, when things feel safe at home, we feel safe in general. Don’t be fooled. Everything non-essential has to stop or close for now. It also means we have to cancel everything, and that goes against who we are as humans. This means no more dinners with friends, casual kid Nerf gun wars in the neighborhood, or basketball at the park. It’s going to be hard and feel wrong on many levels. But, it’s supposed to be hard because we are fighting a war of life and death right now. Not tomorrow, but now. It’s time to wake up. Sacrifices must be made, or we will lose people we know and love. At this moment, the focus must be on keeping lots of people from dying. Every three days, the number of infected individuals will continue to double unless social isolation is adopted by everyone here.

Hell he brags about how he refuses to listen to experts. There’s a lot I despise about Trump but I think the thing that makes me despise him the most as President is his refusal to listen to anything or anyone other than himself or anyone who is only interested in appeasing his ego. Hell we already know he’s refused to meet with Pelosi because he has a stick up his ass because she rightfully impeached him.

Meanwhile, Trumpland continues its complete destruction of the US government.

Acting counterterrorism center head fired, according to former U.S. officials

The acting director of the National Counterterrorism Center was fired Wednesday night in what insiders fear is a purge by the Trump administration of career professionals at an organization set up after 9/11 to protect the nation from attacks, according to two former U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

Russell E. Travers, a highly-regarded career professional with more than 40 years of government service, was fired by acting director of national intelligence Richard Grenell, according to one former official, who like others interviewed for this story spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter.

Travers, who took up the acting position last August, has been resistant to pressure to make personnel cuts at the center, which has been undergoing a review of its mission and effectiveness.

Also removed at NCTC was Travers’s acting deputy, Peter W. Hall, who is said to be returning to the National Security Agency, according to the two individuals, who like others interviewed for this story spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter.

Still working in the office with about 2/3 of the staff working from home. There are now signs in the 5’ x 8’ elevators that state that they have a maximum of two occupants. One of the other people who’s working from the office sits about 10 feet away from me in the cubicle across the aisle. We’re not talking much.

Excuse me for saying this, but I hope Trump is one of the millions of people who catch it.

NY has issued new updated count. 4158 cases (1000+ new adds). 21 dead. That’s 0.5% mortality rate or 5x the seasonal flu. Good news - lower mortality rate than Italy. Bad news, the number of cases is accelerating and doubling faster than 2.5 days in NY. NYC cases more than doubled in a single day (more testing is playing a role in this).

I agree that it is probably that fucking perverse bastard Miller behind it, that it serves the purpose of distraction, of directing blame at a “foreign dictatorship” and implies that there are domestic traitors as well.

And the more time the press goes around in circles on it, the more it frees up Trump to get away with doing an execrable job.

The fact that it will lead to people getting attacked is just another source of delight to Miller.

I decided to take a stroll down to the local community FB page to see what’s shakin’. It’s a red-leaning town, but was pleased to see that we elected a Dem for our state rep in a special election because the “Republican” is actually a member of the Free State Project meant to take over NH govt and create some kind of Libertarian utopia free of the need to pay for police or teachers. That’s even too much for our Trump supporters.

But on coronavirus, there was definitely the “Trump is working his butt off for all Americans!” and when countered with clear evidence that it isn’t true the overwhelming response was “well, now’s not the time for politics; you guys hate Trump so much that you won’t even come together as Americans to support him.” I don’t think that fever’s gonna break.

I think voice-over of that with a map of the number of cases going up would be a great ad. He didn’t care about this because public health issues weren’t fun to him. That is I guess until Miller told him he could just blame it on the Chinese and all would be fine. Chinese government seems to be happy to return favor too. For me, it’s going to be the outdoors. Went on a short walk this morning to a local creek. Didn’t even bring the dog. Just wanted myself and some music and time to think. to be thankful for and do as much justice to the miraculous gift of your existence *every day*. even the ‘ordinary’ ones.

With set number of beds, how long before you have a pandemic that overwhelms those beds and mortality climbs. How do you minimize the body count. Everything Trump’s done has ceded time and not mobilized the powers of the government to act.

The single most important thing to do is aggressively test, and we lost six weeks of time.

Now, Cuomo is warning that by end of next month, it’ll overwhelm the state, even with the measures now in place. That’s just NY.

Carnival, which owns everyone from Carnival to Cunard to Holland America and Costa, flags all their ships in places like Liberia or Bermuda to avoid American regulation and taxes. That is it.

The company purposefully flags them overseas as a matter of convenience and expediency to avoid regulation that might cut into their bottom line - like health and safety regulations.

Things that might come in handy to prevent outbreaks.

Why am I not surprised that the idea of the federal government getting equity in businesses it bails out (including, apparently ones that are not publicly traded) is going over like a wet fart in church?

“One of the ideas is, if we provide assistance, we might take an equity position,” is how Kudlow put it to reporters on Wednesday.

Jay Timmons, president and CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers, appeared on Yahoo Finance on Thursday and firmly pushed back on that idea.

Asked if giving up equity might make his members hesitant to participate, Timmons said, “the answer is yes. I mean, it’s that simple.”

“I’ve talked to some of the smaller manufacturers as well,” he said. “They’ve said, quite bluntly, look if the federal government is going to attach strings or the federal government wants a piece of this business, I’m not going to do that.”

Kudlow had emphasized to reporters that the idea of government purchases of equity was one of many the Trump administration is considering.

Probably. But it would be an utter nightmare to manage, just from a purely practical standpoint. If a corporation has to hold it’s annual shareholders meeting, and that would now require someone from the federal government being there… that’s a huge headache that I’m not even sure the government wants to deal with.

For about 20 minutes on Thursday, President Trump undermined six decades of dogma on the development of safe and effective drugs.

The president’s remarks ran afoul of nearly every established FDA norm — prizing data and evidence over rhetoric, for instance, and avoiding promises, let alone those that can’t be kept.

Senate Republicans unveil massive coronavirus bill that would include cash payments

WASHINGTON — Sen. Mitch McConnell on Thursday released the Republican proposal for a massive emergency coronavirus stimulus bill, which includes direct cash payments for some Americans.

The proposal, expected to cost around $1 trillion, calls for direct payments on a tiered scale. Individuals making $75,000 based on a 2018 tax return would be eligible for $1,200 payments, or $2,400 for couples filing jointly.

The payments would decrease for those making more than $75,000, with an income cap of $99,000 per individual or $198,000 for couples. The payments will also increase $500 for each child a person or couple has.

Which fires in nicely with his “we’ll get the pointy- headed boffins when we need them, why pay to have them sir around doing ‘nothing’?”

Yes, doing nothing but sitting around working through scenarios such as these. Figuring out the best way to handle them. Planning logistics. So when the shit is coming it is all planned out, coordinated and ready to execute. But who needs something like that.

And ethics is about behaving correctly as a default, not working out exactly where the line between legal and illegal is and then cozying right up against it.

And at to this that he was telling wealthy donors how bad it was going to get while remaining mum about it in public statements. A double standard favoring the wealthy is not something we want in that position.

I don’t like his politics in general, but also will note that if this was a liberal Democrat doing it I think they should resign and/or be investigated as well.

I complained to the power company about why we have to sit through a three-minute advert on why we should download their cellphone app on Internet outages without an ability to skip it since we don’t have any cell service around here.

After I reported the power outage, a real person from the electric company called back, telling me they will look into it (translation, fuque off).

The State of Nebraska mandated anyone who has travelled anywhere must now quarantine themselves for fourteen days.

All returning travelers, from any international or domestic location, should assume that COVID-19 disease is present at the locations they have visited and traveled through.
All returning travelers, from any international or domestic location, should limit public interactions, practice strict social distancing, self-monitor for symptoms, and self-quarantine for 14 days if feasible.
Returning travelers from regions with widespread sustained transmission (e.g., CDC Level 3 countries - wwwnc.cdc.gov - plus U.S. locales such as Seattle, WA; New York City; and Santa Clara County, CA) should immediately self-quarantine. Regions with widespread sustained transmission should be identified from CDC, state, and local public health websites and from media sources.
IF a returning traveler develops fever or respiratory illness, they need to IMMEDIATELY self-isolate and report to a healthcare provider or local health department.
Individuals unable to observe the 14-day self-quarantine should consult with their local health department about appropriate actions.
Every health care worker who returns from travel should consult with a trained medical professional at their facility (e.g., infection preventionist or physician) and establish a specific infection control protocol (e.g., home quarantine, self-monitoring, PPE while at work) that mitigates patient and co-worker exposures.

Top of the list of many things to do by the incoming Biden Administration will be to release all documents, recordings, and Emails that the Trump administration shat out for 4 years for everyone to see.

…while simultaneously barring Trump, his family, and any and all former and current administration officials from leaving the country. This especially means Barr and Miller.

It’s 70 degrees here, which means the winds are blowing from the southwest, it has been raining all day, and the weather is about to change with a jerk. But for the moment, I did my outside chores, fed the horse, and started the cleanup on the feed shed. The raccoons tore a hole in the roof and made themselves at home, sh*tting all over everything, dumping every container, chowing down on the horse feed. My “son” came and repaired the roof, and blocked off everything with substantial boards. And carried out the highest boards that were covered with coon sh*t. So made a start on the rest of the cleanup. Then took a chair outside to the deck, sat and listened to the birds and frogs and watched the clouds roll past the treetops. Good.

The state has closed all the major roads here: I-80 from Pine Bluffs, Wyo. to Ogallala, I-76 from I-80 to the Colorado state line (that’s only two miles), US-30 from Pine Bluffs to Brule, Nebr., US-385 from Sidney to Bridgeport, NE-71 from south of Kimball to Scottsbluff, NE-88 from Bridgeport to the La Grange, Wyo. (the entire highway length).

Well, another day of quiet, reading, surfing the net and playing some video games with my son.

Got a notice from my Bishop that our parish will be only having the priest, deacon and one other at the church celebrating. The rest of us are encouraged to read the service in the Book Of Common Prayer at 9:30 (our usual service time) and spiritually partake of the eucharist that way. Those who need Viaticum would, presumably, be assisted by the actual celebrants. Should they be necessary, funerals will be graveside only with a memorial service at a more appropriate time. Weddings, unless there is an overwhelming pastoral necessity, should be postponed. OTOH, our parish registers from the 1918 pandemic show weddings with only 5 present (priest, couple, witnesses) so “there is no new thing under the sun”.

The bishop also actually understands the idea of exponential growth and explicitly gave the finger to the White House and it’s 10 person recommendations as unsafe. This is also the bishop who served as the pastor to veterans at the Anti-Pipeline protests a while back and is a Navy veteran. I often chuckle at how he was elected bishop of our diocese as the “safe”, “conservative” choice.

So I detect a bit of hoarding instinct in myself… went out this morning to read on a bench on the deserted campus, pick up mail and cash and lunch. Did the reading, passed out some peanuts to the local squirrels, went to do the errands. Arrived home with a box of “day-old” chicken and a couple of biscuits, a half dozen bagels and cream cheese and a large salad. Also lunch. (I kept thinking, “it’s open today, but what about tomorrow?”) Anyway, I can eat all that stuff over the weekend.

Walking through downtown, you could almost think it was a normal, though very light traffic, day. Except for the numbers of businesses that were closed. Enough food service places were open (takeout only) that we’ll probably be able to eat without cooking for a while.

SS Panzer Officer: My general says there is no point in continuing this fighting! He is willing to discuss a surrender![Short pause; the German waits for an answer, Frost thinks]

Maj. Harry Carlyle: We haven’t the proper facilities to take you all prisoner! Sorry!
SS Panzer Officer: [confused] What?
Maj. Harry Carlyle: We’d like to, but we can’t accept your surrender! Was there anything else?[German officer walks off silently]
Lt. Col. John Frost: Right.[the officer returns to Obergruppenführer Bittrich - they converse in German]

The main thing in switching to total HTTPS is to make sure everything loads through HTTPS, or the little lock icon will disappear from the address bar and make us sad. So once that’s all straightened out we should be cool.

Unless somebody browses to a 13-year old page somehow, with an embedded video that relied on an early version of Flash, or even used [shudder] Quicktime.

According to Ballotpedia, NC follows the system that mandates a gubernatorial replacement for a US Senator has to run again (or presumably someone has to run) at the next general election - which would be this year - the winner of that election serving out the rest of Burr’s term (to 2022).
But all moot, Burr ain’t gonna resign….

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — LA County officials have issued a “safer at home” order for the county, effective midnight tonight.

The order bans all gatherings outside of a single home and will require most businesses that require employees to report for work to shut down.

The move comes just days after six counties in the Bay Area, as well as Orange County, have issued similar shelter in place orders.

To no one’s surprise, Marsha Blackburn has picked up Trump’s bigot-ball and carried it forward like the good runner that she is.

I don’t know how popular this China-planned-to-destroy-America will play, outside Trump’s hardcore base.

Even when we get to 1k dead/day (unless everyone locks down completely we’re headed to that figure next month), I still don’t know if the Trump strategy of blame-the-Chinese will find resonance in the wider US population.

I hate this speculation, but it keeps hitting me:
After Italy fully quarantines on the 10th their doubling time started to finally go up from 3 to 4 to 5 days in the following 9 days. They also test a hell of a lot more than we have so they were closer to seeing what is actually out there.

It looks like we are hot right now as those catching community spread are being validated as testing comes on line. Sub 2 day doubling of confirmed cases, which is not real doubling I know, is where we are.

Even if the US is conservatively at 15k tomorrow (13.9K at Worldometer right now), and we start broadly quarantining hard by mid next week, I don’t see how we have less than 3 more doublings by the end of March. That’s 120K. I don’t like to think about what our true under count is or what happens if we continue to take less than aggressive action until April.

Without widespread very intensive testing and/or quarantining, we don’t move into China/South Korea for a few more weeks.

My idea of a wine tour is to start in the basement wine cellar, get a tour there and speak on all the vintages. Then move on to the laundry room where they deal with all the dirty linens. Onwards to the utility room where all the magic happens to keep the chateau afloat.

From there, up to the kitchen and the grand room. There’s a bath for your needs, and upstairs for the social libations in the master bedroom. /

Is it me, or are all GOPers corrupt as fuck? Burr should be prosecuted for insider trading. If the DOJ wont do it because they’re corrupt as fuck, then NC prosecutors should (or NY AG James should).

Before this is over, a few Democrats might sure as fuck get caught up trying to secure their personal gains while everyone else watches their 401(k) vaporized, jobs lost, and worse.

CNBC:

Three pillars of Trump’s case for reelection are collapsing all at once

- President Trump’s reelection campaign was designed under the premise that the economy would be strong through November, but that’s not true anymore.

- Trump also planned to make socialism a central focus of his attacks. But without Bernie Sanders to run against, this argument becomes a lot less potent. (Let alone a $1T bailout.)

- Trump campaigned on “draining the swamp” of big government. Now he wants Americans to trust in big government to fight coronavirus and save the economy. (While he lies, doesnt coordinate, and reverses course every step of the way.)

Unless somebody browses to a 13-year old page somehow, with an embedded video that relied on an early version of Flash, or even used [shudder] Quicktime.
