The “Live From Home” Initiative: Chris Thile Plays Gillian Welch’s “Hard Times”

Music • Views: 21,417

Chris Thile says, “I’ll do this song much too fast…” and yes, indeed, he does. Chris must be the scariest mandolin player who has ever lived, and he’s never been scarier than in this one. And also, too, he sings expressively while maintaining an incredibly accurate and fast tempo. Just amazing stuff.

The vegetarian restaurant I mentioned in Sidney has one of those scrolling dot-matrix signs.

It scrolls their hours, then “herbal teas, herbs, AR-15s” (then a firearm spraying bullets).

I keep forgetting to buy tissues when I hit the store. Need to write myself an explicit list for next week that includes it. I also purposefully skipped buying cookies/sweets this week since I noticed I was eating too many of them.

I’ve always wanted to start a combination left-wing/pro union bookstore, fair trade coffee shop (beans and tea too) and gun store with a 25 meter indoor range. I always thought that might be interesting up here. A free copy of Mike Harrington’s “Socialism ” with every firearm purchase 😇

More pro-life foetus worshippers:

I Saw an Anti-Abortion Protester Cough and Joke About COVID-19 (Rewire News, the lede, this from Raleigh, No. Car.):

Abortion clinic staffers and patient escorts watched in horror last weekend as anti-abortion protesters in North Carolina continued to gather in large numbers, hold hands, invade others’ physical space, and—in at least one instance I witnessed—joke about spreading the coronavirus while the government pleaded with people to do what they can to stop the spread of COVID-19.

And even now, they don’t plan to stay home.

The coughing protestor was on a clinic escort.

I have a newfound faith in blatant capitalism than I never have had before.

I am overly impressed with the small companies that are promising to cover their employees wages/tip wages included. The large companies that are not acting right are rightfully getting highlighted and good on our Fed. Govt. for at least acknowledging the crisis in our face.

We have a long way to go and we haven’t even really started yet but I am encouraged and grateful for the small business owners that are looking out for their employees.

All I can say in that regard is the local supermarket Acme actually sent emails to customers like me that they are hiring for all shifts with a competitive wage. Now I am fortunate to be collecting my salary and to be at home. If I did need income the Acme is about 3 blocks from my house so that makes it very convenient.

Panhandle Public Health District is hammering every day in the media here that if you travel out of the Panhandle, you should quarantine yourself upon return.

Today they note that local truckers are encouraged to continue plying their trade, but should stay at home when not on the road.

The problem is PPHD has to compete with FOX News and Christian hate radio stations here.

On Thursday, Panhandle Public Health District Director Kim Engel said the United States has seen cases following on the same trajectory as Italy, which is “really struggling right now. Their health care system is overwhelmed.” Italy has experienced cases doubling every two to three days. The United States is about 11 days behind Italy, she said.

Our regional newspaper continues running only wingnut columnists.

CAL THOMAS: We’re all in this together

There is a disease going around, and I’m not talking only about the coronavirus.

It’s a political disease, and it seems to be spreading, especially among certain politicians who are looking for another way to expel President Trump from office.

STAR PARKER: Staying free and faithful in a pandemic

The coronavirus crisis presents challenges to us as a nation and as individuals. There are principles we should keep in mind.

Let’s remember how our nation works. We have a Constitution that assigns limited, defined powers to the federal government and leaves the rest to the states and individuals.

Some governors, like J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, don’t seem to understand this. At a time when political leaders should be inspiring confidence, Pritzker is attacking President Donald Trump, accusing the federal government of being “completely unprepared.” He wants to lay blame for crowds and delays at O’Hare Airport on the president.

If you keep reading her column, you’ll see the real reason for the failure to respond properly: socialism and a lack of religious faith.

In areas such as sick leave, business leaders should pick up the brunt.

They should not forget that the same God that made employers made workers.

Faith will play a key role in helping our nation through this crisis and emerge better for it.

Capitalism doesn’t “do” pick up the brunt, or give a damn about its workers.
