They trust the CDC because the CDC has been told to shut up, thus Trump hasn’t had to denigrate them to the point of distrust. “CDC” still carries respect in right-winger circles, even if they would believe Trump over Fauci.

Who they trust is a measure of who they feels resembles them and nothing else.

They believe Trump because he says things that affirm them in their wants and feelings; there’s no deeper level of shared ideology or meaning.

They trust the concept of the FED and it’s pronouncements only insofar that CDC statements refrain from blatantly contradicting Trump. In cases of major discrepancy, Trump supersedes the CDC.

In the summertime, our public library holds film screenings in the village park.

With this outbreak, you could still do it with appropriate distancing, however, snow and winter.

According to the state document, any of a wide range of underlying health conditions - such as metastasized cancer, AIDS, “severe mental retardation,” advanced dementia and “severe burns” - could disqualify patients from being put on potentially lifesaving ventilators if a pandemic grows dire.

The appendices to the ADPH ethics study in the article explain the logic. Enjoy the football allusions.

Yep. It’s appearing not in NYC, but within miles of their location. They see state governors treating it as something serious. They probably have seen panic buying in their local stores. The coverage hasn’t disappeared as it would have if it *was* a scare tactic hoax, and Fox is sort of alternately being serious and stupid about it.

Something *is* happening, and perhaps it’s something to also be concerned about.

One of Bolsie’s predecessors as President of Brazil, Francisco de Paula Rodrigues Alves, died of the flu during the 1918 pandemic. During his first term, in 1904, he had suppressed the so-called Vaccine Revolt, an uprising brought on by mandatory smallpox vaccination in Rio de Janeiro. The government threw in the towel after a week of rioting left 30 people dead, but continued the program on a voluntary basis. They went back to mandatory vaccination after yet another epidemic killed 9000 people in 1909.

Confusion surrounds VA’s community care offerings after talk of program pause (Military Times)

Veterans Affairs officials are scrambling to explain what is happening with their community care offerings — President Donald Trump’s self-proclaimed signature achievement for veterans — after Capitol Hill staffers were told this week the program is facing a 90-day “strategic pause” because of the coronavirus outbreak.

On Wednesday, Veterans Affairs officials denied that major changes are coming to the outside care programs, which allow veterans to seek private-sector medical appointments paid for by VA funds.

But they also acknowledged that some new applicants who should be automatically enrolled in the program may be denied in the name of safety, a move which some advocates have suggested may be outside the department’s authority.
