Is a triple neck guitar what happens when you try to hold the same guitar from two different time periods?

Well folks, I guess it’s all over. A single poll from ABC/WaPo came out saying there’s an “enthusiasm gap” between Trump and Biden. I guess we have no choice but to pack it in and accept another 4 years of Trump.

If you MUST scratch/rub your eyes, use a Kleenex or other tissue and then dispose of immediately. Not the optimal solution (not touching), but better than your bare hand.

That’s a lot easier said than done. Generally rubbing them before I even realize what I am doing. Not particularly worried about it at the moment. I live alone and haven’t left the house in a week and a half. If there is any virus in here I already have it.

So far, from what I’ve heard, Jonesboro had 22 injured with two in the hospital. Their mall downtown, Turtle Creek, took a lot of damage:

Don’t be on the right side

This is a google satellite image of the mall. According to the news and pictures, it looks like everything to the right of the red line was significantly damaged or destroyed. The Best Buy is gone. The Target is OK.

Had the city not had non-essential businesses closed down, there could have been a number of deaths.

Yeah, ingrained habits are a pain to break. Since I wear glasses, I have to move them in order to rub my eyes. I use that as a reminder to grab a tissue.

What I find more telling is that poll comes two days after a Faux poll showing that Trump is trailing 49-40% despite supposedly enjoying a jump in approval. And other polls showing that he’s trailing or in trouble in the districts he needs to win if he wants a chance at winning the EC.

Donny has the same problem as Bernie does: A very shallow base that’s highly energized but actively doing shit that pushes people away.

MN once had a state shutdown due to a budget impasse that closed all of the state parks during the 4th of July. During the time of the shutdown, St. Croix State Park got hit with a massive straight-line windstorm that blew down thousands of trees and smashed more than half of the cabins in one group camp area. If the park would have been open, many people would have been injured or killed. It was lucky that the park was closed.

After two days of declining new cases, Minnesota posted a new high of 63 new cases, and sadly, nearly doubled our death total, from 5 to 9. Understanding that new cases lag behind the protective measures being taken still doesn’t take the sting off of that.

The deaths are going to lag even more than the new cases, so there’s that.

We hit two weeks of shelter-in-place on Tuesday; there were less strict measures in place before that, which might be what’s keeping us from having broken the 100 new cases in a day mark yet (and note, this is just for my county, which is not the entire Bay Area by far) but clearly also wasn’t enough to prevent spread.

My suggestion to the Biden campaign: Respond to the douchenozzles at Our Revolution that if Bernie has time to prepare for and attend another debate, then he could be more wisely spending that time working on legislation in the Senate to help the millions of Americans who need help now. That gabbing about M4A when people are dying now is not helping anybody, though Donald Trump will be very appreciative of the continued effort to divide the party over purity tests.

And that really is the biggest argument against nominating Bernie: He is a serving US Senator, one of the highest offices one can attain in this country, yet he’s doing nothing with it during a time of national crisis. This is his time to shine, show him as the man who can rise to the occasion and demonstrate leadership when it’s needed. Even if he knew Mitch would never bring it to a vote, he could be drafting and promoting his own legislation in ways that Biden simply can’t because he’s retired from the halls of Congress.

But no, he’d rather shake his finger angrily at cameras and hold “virtual town halls” where he talks at lengths about legislation that will never go anywhere and promises he’ll never be in any position to keep.

And Lindsey Graham continues to be a garbage person

“She’s [Pelosi] blaming the president of the United States for people dying,” Graham complained to Fox News host Maria Bartiromo.

“She’s the first politician to blame another politician for people dying,” the senator complained. “This is the same Speaker of the House who held up the bill in the Senate for days because she wanted same day voting, she wanted carbon neutrality for the airlines, she wanted $75 million of the Endowment for the Humanities and she wanted $25 million for the Kennedy Center.”

“We took most of the garbage out,” he continued. “But for her to blame this president for loss of life after she held up the relief package for days to get a liberal special interest shopping list in the bill is pretty disgusting.” C&L

So on Facebook there is a never ending stream of people who are just refusing to accept the truth. MAGAhats mostly, some other long time Republicans. By now they’ve even labeled Snopes as a biased left wing source, even though for years Snopes was thought of as somewhat “conservative” in many regards.

This is why, when Trump is out, we need to have public trials. They Trump crime syndicate needs to have their laundry out in public.

Biden is likely not one to do it, unfortunately. But if the Dems take the Senate, I think many investigations need to be done.

Texas tightens rules on neighboring Louisiana over virus

Just two days after Texas began requiring airline passengers from New Orleans to comply with a two-week quarantine, Abbott said state troopers will now also patrol highway entry points at the Louisiana border and require “everyone stopped” in those cars to also self-isolate. Aboott’s order requires drivers to fill out a form listing where they will quarantine in Texas. But the extent of how Texas troopers would enforce the order on the state line was not immediately clear.

So how many roads are there that go from Louisiana to Texas? I bet there are a lot of country roads that aren’t patrolled except by occasional deputies in whatever county said roads exists.

It’s the money you have to pay before the insurance company that you pay premiums to will actually start to pay for any of the medical coverage you get. Well — it looks like NYTimes confirmed an unvoiced speculation of mine: the spread of the disease really mimicked what happened at Chernobyl according to the HBO miniseries. Like the Chernobyl authorities, the Wuhan authorities didn’t want to admit that the situation was out of their control and so they delayed informing Beijing about what was happening. Of course, Chernobyl could not be hidden from the world because the radiation was detected elsewhere within hours. The coronavirus could lurk without detection elsewhere for weeks before it exploded on the world stage.

Yeah, so they would have shown the maximum it would have been if all of them had used the full deductible.

Anyway the moral of the story is that despite paying as much as we do for health insurance, it still doesn’t cover the first $X of care (where X is a function of your plan and how much it costs you otherwise).

(And then also potentially lots of other bits too up to your out of pocket maximum, supposedly, assuming you were in network, etc., and let’s not talk about the practice of balance billing, and this is going to be a giant clusterfuck that’s going to result in a lot of bankruptcies. The coronavirus could lurk without detection elsewhere for weeks before it exploded on the world stage.

the advantage china has over us is that they’ll execute these incompetent pricks out in a field somewhere.

Which can’t discharge student loan debt so that’s still going to be a drain on the economy, wheee.)

Matt’s my favorite, and I think the scripts have been good with his character. I think they’ve been good at using Matt’s type of Doctor as well as doing fairly solid stories.

my irritation with the current doctor is mostly that I just don’t understand why there was this desperate need to portray the doctor as a woman. the scripts end up giving her dialogue that my ear sounds like the sort of thing Matt would be saying, or the last guy, whose name is escaping me just now. If you want to write the part for a woman, find somebody who can write dialogue for her that doesn’t have all the scrappy, twitchy banter to it.

A lot of Americans are pretty aware that our health care insurance system is broken. Believe me, I would like it to be fixed. Unfortunately, one of the major parties thinks that the way it’s broken is it provides too much coverage for too many people and then aggressively courts the age group that does receive actual government-provided healthcare benefits at a semi-reasonable price (and therefore has absolutely zero clue how fucked the rest of us are), so…

The current writer is the guy who did Broadchurch, and I think he was good at that for two reasons: He got to create all of the characters, and it was very focused on a small group. He didn’t create the Doctor, and Doctor Who operates across all of space and time, and I think that’s a little big for him. I don’t think his writing’s bad-bad, I just get this feeling it’s too big for him. The best episode so far has been the Rosa Parks episode, which was very focused. I think he’s been helped somewhat this season by going back to two-part episodes.

And I think it’s interesting to focus on the consequences of the Doctor being a woman, but considering that Time Lords can change gender, why would she be all that different from other versions of her?

Why? Because he’s sure that there’s gotta be some “waste” in there he can cut so as to goose the cost/profit numbers. And no matter how ridiculous it sounds, he will insist time and again that single-use items can be “reused” and employees are “wasting” money by throwing them away after their single use.

He said I probably will not come contact with anyone so it is safe. Then I reminded him of my age and my allergies and that put me into the high risk category. He told me that he too was in the same category. In the end we agreed to expect a call from the employer. When I call out tomorrow I will say I do not feel good and leave it at that.

China could have a million cases at the moment. The could have 100k deaths.

None of that changes what Trump’s failures have wrought here. And if they have lied about the number of cases and death toll, then that suggests that the disease is far more deadly than Trumpists have been claiming it to be (again with the cognitive dissonance on their part).

China didn’t make Trump ignore the crisis for 6 weeks. That’s all on Trump. What has Trump done since, besides slow roll testing, issue contradictory statements, issue confusing statements about pretty much everything, and lie about what he’s done.

Scott’s Bluff County borders my county. Presumably the man is in the hospital in Scottsbluff, sixty miles away.

They say he is isolating at home, but they do not say what town he is from. (Could be from Scottsbluff or any of the towns around here.)

New Idaho Stats.

310 confirmed cases. An uptick of 50.
Dead: 6 an additional 1

Twin Falls city/county is now up to 3 confirmed. Again. given what I saw at the store this morning and posted about, I am surprised it’s not more.

Yes, I know. TESTING!. Well guess what? In order to be tested in this State/County/City to make sure your infected, you have to be already showing symptomatic signs. And if you do (or don’t)? Well, go home and die. Please do so quietly if you can. Don’t want to embarrass the idiot in chief now don’t ya know.

Now, I am out of here for the night. before I really blow up and totally go off the rails.

I sent out an E-mail to county and village officials in my public information officer hat on the new case of Covid-19 discovered in Scott’s Bluff County.

The Panhandle Covid-19 Unified Command has announced the first case of Covid-19 disease, in Scott’s Bluff County.

The man is in his thirties, and is not connected to the case discovered in Torrington, Wyo. a few days ago. Contact investigations are underway to find out who the man had close contact with over the last fourteen days.

PPHD reminds people they should follow the advice of physicians and public health policy experts.

For a wealth of information for Nebraska, the state Department of Health and Human Services has a special Webpage set up.

dhhs.ne.gov

National information is available at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

cdc.gov

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services has opened a statewide coronavirus (COVID-19) information line to help answer general questions and share the latest information and resources with Nebraskans to help keep them informed. The number is[no phone numbers allowed]; hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CDT, (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. MDT) 7 days a week.

I’ll go round and put it up on the village trap line tomorrow (the businesses part of that are closed now).

My wife is headed to our neighbour behind us to ask if she needs any assistance like shopping or whatnot (she is in her eighties) and to pay her son who lives with her to start our lawnmowing season at Casa Tumbleweed (they can use the money).

re: #193 Hecuba’s daughter

Well — it looks like NYTimes confirmed an unvoiced speculation of mine: the spread of the disease really mimicked what happened at Chernobyl according to the HBO miniseries. Like the Chernobyl authorities, the Wuhan authorities didn’t want to admit that the situation was out of their control and so they delayed informing Beijing about what was happening. Of course, Chernobyl could not be hidden from the world because the radiation was detected elsewhere within hours. The coronavirus could lurk without detection elsewhere for weeks before it exploded on the world stage.

Also, though less disastrous, the Great Leap Forward. We have the same, as you note, in that no one can afford to give bad news to the Great Tangerine Helmsman.
