Letra de “Tú Sí Sabes Quererme”

Ha pasado tanto tiempo,
finalmente descubrí tus besos.
Me enredaste en tu mirada,
me abrazaste con todos mis defectos.

Tú sí que sabes quererme,
tú sí que sabes adorarme, mi amor.
No te vayas, quédate por siempre, para siempre;
para siempre amarte.

CORO:

Así por siempre, para siempre;

It has been so long,
I finally discovered your kisses.
You entangled me in your gaze,
you hugged me with all my flaws.

You do know how to love me,
you do know how to adore me, my love.
Don’t go, stay forever, forever;
forever love you.

CHORUS:
Heart you do know
love me as I like.
I am the flower on fire
that gives color to the garden of your life.
Heart you do know
love me as I like.
Please do not leave me,
that I am brave to reciprocate.

It has been so long,
I finally know I’m ready.
It’s so hard to find a love
that here I stay, with open wounds.
I don’t care what other people think anymore,
I am with you to always be witnesses of life.
So forever, forever;
forever love us.

Heart you do know
love me as I like.
I am the flower on fire
that gives color to the garden of your life.
Heart you do know
love me as I like.
Please do not leave me,
that I am brave to reciprocate.

I just got a call from my employer. As a matter of fact from the Executive Director saying that they are not yet ready to resume a regular work schedule. I called my ward leader and we both agree that I am still off. My ward leader insisted that DT was the one that made the so-called decision. I did not argue. Also the company website has not been updated as of yet.

Couple of posts downstairs, people were talking about Hard Likker and mentioned a local distillery that makes Tito’s Vodka.

Gives me a headache, I prefer Monopolova, real potato vodka, made in Austria made by ExPat Poles.

Now Tito is a real guy, and the little known fact is that his actual surname is Beverage.

Herb Caen would have loved to add that to his Name Phreaks column.

Herb’s been dead 23 years (!!), so he can’t.

There’s a bunch of singers doing a benefit concert on Fox:

Pop stars like Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello and Mariah Carey will livestream performances from their homes Sunday as part of a coronavirus benefit concert held by iHeartRadio and Fox.

The hourlong “FOX presents The iHeartRadio Living Room Concert for America” will be a free livestream hosted by Elton John and joined by a number of famous singers, who will all stream from their homes.

Celebrities will pay tribute to the front-line workers and responders who are working to care for people affected by the coronavirus, according to a release from iHeartRadio.

The benefit will allow viewers to help support two charities that support those battling the pandemic: Feeding America and the First Responders Children’s Foundation.

In addition to Carey, Cabello and Eilish, stars slated to perform include Alicia Keys, Backstreet Boys, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Dave Grohl, H.E.R., Tim McGraw and Sam Smith.

Not in numbers high enough to make any difference. What Republicans like so much about Trump is precisely that he is so blatantly a piece of shit.

That gives them hope they they can go back to the good old days where whatever kinds of shittiness they personally have (racism, willful ignorance, greed etc.) can be celebrated as virtues and defended by privilege.

Republicans will happily end civilization rather than give up on this stupid pipe dream.

We are already planning on running our Easter services online. We have been making significant strides in our online presence, and plan to continue at least some fashion of live broadcasting even after the local epidemic has subsided and we are free to congregate. Last week’s online sermon received approximately 5 times as many views as we have ever had butts in seats.

The church here has no way to broadcast on-line. The minister has no Internet service, nor does the church.

I’m not sure what they are going to do. She still has a sign up on the front door saying to contact her at home if you have pastoral needs, or me if you need government information.

A German state finance minister was found dead on Saturday, with officials stating he seemed to have killed himself over distress due to the coronavirus economic fallout.

According to the Associated Press, 54-year-old Thomas Schaefer—who had been the state finance minister of the Hesse region for a decade—was found dead on railway tracks near Frankfurt. Authorities said witness accounts and observations on the scene led them to believe Schaefer had killed himself, and state governor Volker Bouffier said his death was linked to the coronavirus on Sunday.

According to Bouffier, Schaefer was concerned about “whether it would be possible to succeed in fulfilling the population’s huge expectations, particularly of financial help.” “I have to assume that these worries overwhelmed him,” said Bouffier. “He apparently couldn’t find a way out. He was in despair and left us.”

I’m sure she’d love to Webcast an Easter service (or any service) if she could, but the realities of the cost of Internet service here preclude that. Even if the church or she had Internet service, no one in town has it in their homes besides me.

On the third hand, everyone here knows everyone else. The town is small enough she can provide pastoral service and religious counsel personally to anyone in town or in the rural area around us.

In the last week I’ve started lurking on a FB for our town that was set up before the CV outbreak. It has been fun. The town is red-leaning, but they consistently reject the alt-right “Free State Project.” Anyway, someone today suggested that New Hampshire should close its borders, particularly to Massachusetts (heh heh), and the person gave as an example how Rhode Island is closing itself off from NY. To which someone responded: “I don’t think we want to follow the example of the ‘Florida’ of New England.”

So they’ve reached the part of the show where they introduce a bunch of Senators and House members, from both parties.

Most of them got a smattering of polite applause. Nancy Pelosi got a HUGE ovation. (she also really stands out onstage — all the men are wearing dark suits, she’s wearing a red dress)

Dumb question - what show? The iHeartConcert that’s trending right now? (obviously I’m not watching). Also, stage? Hope it’s big enough to allow social distancing!

Capitalism.

It’s not necessarily the journalists, it’s their media outlets’ owners.

That’s also why a second journalist won’t ask the same question after Trump deflects from the first one.

Though I have no evidence, it’s my belief that journalists are armed with questions their corporate paymasters tell them to ask. That’s why no matter how many people demand they follow up with the same question, they won’t. They don’t want to get fired.

I feel like journalists have been conditioned to implicitly trust and respect the White House because, up to this point, it has been occupied by someone of generally decent character and trustworthiness. Even Dubya, as big an idiot as he was, was misled by bad actors and was himself just a genuinely dumb and good-natured man. It’s hard to break that habit when an actual asshole occupies the office that used to command actual respect.

Well, he *has* lost control of the monster. But it’s not the reaction to the virus, it’s the virus itself. The virus is like Honeybadger. It just doesn’t give a shit.

His ignorant supporters still don’t see this as a problem, because it has not impacted them, for the most part, directly.

Yet.

But one truck stop at a time, small towns across the country are about to get dough-popped, and their shattered hospital systems, starved by years of government neglect, are going to fatally fail them. And there will be no one left to complain.

I don’t know how enthusiastic he would be on playing second fiddle to the presumptive nominee, when he may be planning an insurrection at the convention. Weekend reporting is wobbly. Not sure that NY put out their usual two updates today, other states were very very late relative to weekdays. Labs might not be running full hours. And do not read anything into a 1 or 2 day “trend” in the numbers. Until you have four consistent data points, it could be anything from sunspots to what was on TV last night messing with you.

I’m definitely not a fan of Gov. Ricketts’s political positions. That said, he understands economic problems as the former governor of Ameritrade.

Some economic pain now is much more preferable to a disaster later. He is also concerned about overwhelming rural hospitals, and has assembled a team to address the issue of getting equipment or people where needed.

Most rural hospitals here are set up to deal with trauma cases such as automobile or agricultural accidents. Our own county hospital has no obstetrics ward, for example.

This administration is a really old joke:

A guy gets hired in a new job. On his first day at work he looks in his desk and in the top drawer there is a set of three envelopes secured together with a rubber band. The envelopes are numbered 1,2 and 3. There is a note from his predecessor attached to the envelopes. The note says “When you get into trouble, open Envelope #1. If you get into trouble again, open envelope #2. If you have a third problem, open envelope #3.”

Impressed, the guy puts them back into the drawer and gets on with his job.

At the one month mark, he makes a really bad mistake and gets a very angry call from his boss to report to the boss’s office immediately.

The guy is really worried, wondering what he should do. Then he remembers the set of envelopes. He immediately retrieves and opens Envelope #1. The note inside the envelope says “Remind your boss that you are brand new in your job and still getting up to speed.”

He goes over to the boss’ office. When the boss starts yelling at him, the guy points out that he is brand new at the job and still learning his way around. The boss calms down, the guy returns to his office and tries to recover from that near miss.

Things go along smoothly for about a year. Then the guy makes another horrid mis-step. And gets the angry call from the boss again. The guy immediately locates envelope #2 and opens it. The note inside says “Blame your predecessor.”

The guy goes into the boss’ office and calms the boss down by pointing out he was just doing the what his predecessor had been doing. The boss calms down and the guy returns to his own office.

Things again smoothly for months. Then the guy makes another really bad decision and gets the angry call from his boss. The guy remembers the third envelope, retrieves and opens it. The note inside says “Write up three envelopes…”

Total OT, before I go read a silly kid’s book to blank out disquieting reality for the night.

Today marks Sunday#3 with our recently-acquired Feline Overlord. Her Majesty Queen Fuzzybutt has settled her 14-year-old self in more easily than feared. She has a throne established on one of the couches; a sunning spot beside a south-facing front door; and a snuggling spot by my son’s feet when he’s working on his computer in his bedroom. She has graciously shown some mild interest in her new scratching post, though has too much dignity to bat at the dangling fuzzy ball attached to it.

Today she explored new territory. She hauled her elderly bones up to the seat of my recliner. My good recliner. Not the old and rather shabby one that my mom sat in all the time, the one whose upholstery is still in reasonably good shape. My son is quite proud of the little adventurer for making this ascent. I am less so.

When I headed for the bedroom tonight, I left behind a cosy cat puddle snoozing in MY recliner. Mama and the Overlord are going to have a Serious Discussion tomorrow…

Deliberately Infect Healthy Young People To Test Coronavirus Vaccines, Propose Bioethicists (Reason):

Now Rutgers University bioethicist Nir Eyal and his colleagues are proposing something like Reed’s “human challenge” study as a way to speed up the development of a vaccine against the novel coronavirus that is responsible for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The idea is that vaccine developers can cut more directly to what is essentially a phase three clinical trial. In phase three, vaccines already tested for safety are generally given to a large group of folks who are at risk of the targeted infection and monitored for a considerable period of time to see how many of the vaccinated people actually come down with the disease versus a group of unvaccinated people.

Memories of the very first John Prine song I ever heard and it was when I started college in 1973…college radio station played it. No other station in Pittsburgh would touch it…

John Prine - “Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You Into Heaven Anymore” (Live)

Lyrics:
While digesting Reader’s Digest in the back of a dirty book store
A plastic flag, with gum on the back fell out on the floor
Well, I picked it up and I ran outside, slapped it on my window shield
And if I could see old Betsy Ross I’d tell her how good I feel
But your flag decal won’t get you into Heaven anymore
They’re already overcrowded from your dirty little war
Now Jesus don’t like killin’, no matter what the reason’s for
And your flag decal won’t get you into Heaven anymore
Well, I went to the bank this morning and the cashier he said to me
“If you join the Christmas club we’ll give you ten of them flags for free”
Well, I didn’t mess around a bit, I took him up on what he said
And I stuck them stickers all over my car and one on my wife’s forehead
But your flag decal won’t get you into Heaven anymore
They’re already overcrowded from your dirty little war
Now Jesus don’t like killin’, no matter what the reason’s for
And your flag decal won’t get you into Heaven anymore
Well, I got my window shield so filled with flags I couldn’t see
So, I ran the car upside a curb and right into a tree
By the time they got a doctor down I was already dead
And I’ll never understand why the man standing in the pearly gates said
“But your flag decal won’t get you into Heaven anymore
We’re already overcrowded from your dirty little war”
“Now Jesus don’t like killin’, no matter what the reason’s for
And your flag decal won’t get you into Heaven anymore”

PBS had a story about them and the formation of the FDA. Dr. Henry Wiley formed them to show how poisonous the various chemicals were. A bunch of young men, late teens to early 20s.

There is a loophole in the ACA if you’re a Christian for obtaining insurance. It is called a “healthcare sharing ministry.” These were written into the law as a sop to Christians.

These are unregulated pools of money. You can be cut off at any time for being too much of a medical burden, or the Christians running it could simply disappear (with the money).

Alan Merrill, ‘I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll’ Songwriter, Dies From Coronavirus at 69 (Billboard)

Alan Merrill, co-writer and singer of the original version of “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,” has died at age 69 from COVID-19, according to his daughter, who shared the news on social media.

“The Coronavirus took my father this morning,” Laura Merrill wrote on Facebook on Sunday (March 29).

She continued: “I was given 2 minutes to say my goodbyes before I was rushed out. He seemed peaceful and as I left was still a glimmer of hope that he wouldn’t be a ticker on the right hand side of the CNN/Fox news screen. I walked 50 blocks home still with hope in my heart. The city that I knew was empty. I felt I was the only person here and perhaps in many ways I was. By the time I got in the doors to my apartment I received the news that he was gone.”

Same thing with SSI/Disability, and even UI. You may be pleasantly surprised at what you are eligible for, and at worst, you are in the system. This is especially true for performers and other free-lancers. Depending on age, you just may have enough credits (if over 61) to collect at age 62, may actually qualify for disability, or even collect UI from various states. In any event, you are in the system. Also, if you have ever worked for Uncle Sam, you may have some pension money to collect as well.

I’ve tried and failed to collect SSDI. The problem was after I left the Navy with my “unemployable” rating from the VA for epilepsy, I got a job working in a corporate-owned McDonalds, and worked just long enough to chalk up one-quarter’s FICA tax.

Social Security in my application and appeal denied me. I cannot afford a lawyer to take them on, so unlike most disabled vets I do not collect it.

Pro Bono Net, Inc. does not provide legal help. Please click the button below for assistance.

That link goes to a legal aid society in New York for criminal and immigration issues. I don’t think they can help me.

As far as Social Security, some time ago I consulted with a lawyer after my appeal was turned down. He was certain at that point I would need to get a lawyer who specialises in Social Security lawsuits.

Shortly after that, I was homeless.

More recently, I tried to take up the issue again, with our lawyer here and the county veterans affairs officer. Both gave the same opinion, that I would need a specialist in suing Social Security and there would be no guarantee of winning. I can’t afford such a lawsuit and certainly can’t afford to lose to the federal government in court.

The key line from the military benefits site is the one I thought of earlier, all the way down at the bottom:

Payments will be made via direct deposit “as rapidly as possible” and no later than Dec. 31, 2020. For most Americans, no action is required to receive a rebate check since the IRS will use a taxpayer’s 2019 tax return if filed or their 2018 return if they haven’t filed their 2019 return. People who do not receive Social Security benefits and also do not typically file taxes because their income is very low will need to file a 2019 tax return in order to receive a stimulus check.

I will need to file a tax return with $0 for taxes owed. Interest on our checking account (LOLOLOLOL) is not nearly enough to force us into the lowest tax bracket.

Thank them for their service (Navy Times opinion piece)

Last week, a meme circulated among military and veteran circles on social media sites. It was entitled, “In Light of Current Events, Civilians Now Have an Idea What It’s Really Like to Be in the Military,” and consisted of observations such as “watching others panic; carrying around a mask all the time; and your weekend plans are revoked.”

While certainly meant as nothing more than light-hearted humor during a time when many are anxious, sentiments like this feed a broader narrative that the military’s sacrifice is without parallel. But, as COVID-19 has made us all more aware, the military has neither a monopoly on service or sacrifice (emphasis mine).

Of all the social reordering the coronavirus global pandemic may cause, one bright spot may be the increased gratitude, trust, and confidence among the public towards those on the front lines of this pandemic. In fact, the coronavirus may serve as a much-needed opportunity for Americans — including those of us in uniform — to recalibrate how we view selfless service and patriotism in general, which recently has been considered to be the exclusive province of the U.S. military.

And anybody who knows how the military is structured is aware that it is a very socialist and collectivist organization: universal health care, guaranteed housing, subsidized college tuition, family services, etc.

The sort of things that most Europeans have had for decades but are totally decried and criticized as existential threats to the well-being of the US economy.

Pentagon orders local units to stop reporting coronavirus infections amid security concerns (Stars & Stripes)

STUTTGART, Germany — The Pentagon on Sunday ordered the home of U.S. European Command to stop reporting the number of coronavirus infections within its military community in a move that could reverberate across all U.S. forces.

The Army in Stuttgart said it can no longer release the number of coronavirus cases based on a Defense Department directive that cited operational security concerns.

“DoD will release numbers through their official platforms,” the Army in Stuttgart said in a statement.

I think it’s the attitude of “loose lips sink ships.”

Unclassified information can be used to determine such things as unit strength.

If a command notes “there were X people diagnosed yesterday, and Y people the day before,” someone can figure out the available strength of a unit.

A similar idea was given to us in boot camp about non-classified information.

A person in a bar strikes up conversation with you, asking about what you do. That is not (normally) classified information.

“Well, I work as a storekeeper.” Further inquiry from the fellow who seems interested in your job elicits from you complaints about the amount of Arctic gear you’ve been processing lately.

Plugging little bits of info like that with other bits of info helps an adversary interested in that the basics of an Arctic military exercise, for example.

Of course, they think it’s a straight shot from “problems in the healthcare system” to M4A. That people who have issues with things like acquiring health insurance, paying premiums, or affording deductibles are universally eager to ditch the entire system in favor of a new one that will change all of that “overnight.”

Meanwhile, the comparatively “simple” task of sending out millions of checks to Americans could possibly take months and be rife with errors and corruption because of all the work put into kneecapping of the agencies responsible by a single political party.

Minute Physics on YouTube shows how exponential growth of Covid-19 actually works. The channel owner notes that one of the problems in reporting has been total number of cases versus time.

When plotted as total cases versus new cases on logarithmic scales for both, the resultant chart shows as linear (easier to visualise), and when a country drops out (due to measures taken by nations being successful).

He literally said it would go away a month ago so no we can’t. Maybe if Trump changed his name to Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, Bill would give a shit but yeah all hail Emperor Trump. Fuck Trump for what he’s done to our country. Fuck him and the assholes who lie repeatedly to protect him.

and he is trying to suppress TV ads that show him saying those very things.

He will not succeed in suppressing them entirely, but if he can get a restraining order to keep them off the air until November, he will have helped his campaign

This is purposeful. This is malicious. And it’s not getting nearly enough media coverage despite the fact that Trump holds daily rallies where he lambastes the press for not fawning over him like a crowd of magadiots.

By definition, withholding aid over political differences is defined as genocide.

The GOP is already comfortable with genocide, as are all conservative governments when they make the final grab for total control (snatching children from parents and giving them to others is also defined as genocide; withholding aid from Puerto Rico because a mayor criticised Trump is genocide).

We need to use the real word. This is the same complaint I made last year about failing to call Trump’s statements lies.

re: #289 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

The Left did a bit of that, but a lot of it was the Right using the old polemic tactic of building him up as some sort of Messiah to then show that he has feet of clay.

It was definitely some on the left because the 2010 midterms happened. They had unrealistic expectations on Obama. The right fucked Obama but there were elements of the left that had unrealistic expectations of his Presidency and that’s something I am critical of. You had Michael Moore and Bill Maher complaining that they didn’t elect Obama to be a white guy. Obama is who he is. He’s politically liberal at least by 2008 standards who values the other two branches of government as coequal so he tried prioritizing a lot of his agenda via Congress to make it last longer and that in the end is why Trump will never come close to Obama’s record. Trump got a tax cut with Ryan’s help and judges with McConnell.

The GOP are busy trying to rewrite history so that when the worst case predictions fall short of the 1-2 million deaths in the US alone, they’ll claim Trump did a fantastic job.

The fact that they’re looking at 100,000 Americans dead as a win shows that they are a death cult that doesn’t care that Trump utterly and completely botched the response at every step, and continues to do so. Instead of demanding all the states enact the same self-isolation and essential travel rules, he’s spewing nonsense and getting states fighting over the same limited resources.

He’s directing aid to go to red states and ignoring the toll in blue states.

This is purposeful. This is malicious. And it’s not getting nearly enough media coverage despite the fact that Trump holds daily rallies where he lambastes the press for not fawning over him like a crowd of magadiots.

re: #52 Amory Blaine

That presser was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. I got to think Pelosi has articles of impeachment waiting in case we go way bad. Some repubs will peel off for removal. Right!?!

the irony is that if Republicans had helped remove him, they would have gotten Mike Pence, who would then have been able to put in more competent folks, and done presumably a better job of listening to his advisors. It’s possible our situation would be much better, with the economy never having to just be completely shut down, or if it had been, he would likely have made better decisions that would be viewed very favorably by Americans. He might well have won a landslide in November, as even moderate Dems would look on him as a kind of post-9/11 Bush. Republicans would have retained the senate, maybe even cracked the House. There would be solidification of national Republican power. Now, their whole party is completely fucked. Biden isn’t a great debater, but I am guessing October debates will be a helluva thing. We might even be in our second or third wave of the pandemic. The vox populi is gonna be loud as hell by that point. Madame whoozy whatsy is gonna be pulling the string on her little guillotine.

To put things into perspective, if the final death toll were only around 100K (remember, that’s the low end of the projections), it would still be more than all the US forces lost in Korea and Vietnam combined.

Total confirmed deaths so far have surpassed the losses at Pearl Harbor and are on course to surpass 9/11 by the end of the week (if not sooner). By next week, it will have wiped out more people than the 1906 San Fran Earthquake and be on its way to surpassing the mark set by the 1900 Galveston Hurricane.

The US has not seen this sort of loss of life outside of a major war in decades. When this is all over, we’ll have seen daily death rates that actually surpass the number of men killed on D-Day. This is a major crisis that will scar entire generations, psychologically if not physiologically, and could actually shorten the period we had to work with before the Boomers died off.

“…Production has barely begun, but Garcia, a perfectionist who gained legal status under amnesty in the 1980s and has been with the company ever since, is tweaking the design every time a new mask comes off the line. She’s thought about adding a pocket for physicians to add filters or double-plying. She wondered whether the fabric of cloth diapers might work better.

Garcia’s attention to detail is why the Kammermans call her the boss. She’s been to all the Kammerman weddings and bat and bar mitzvahs. Most of Gourmet’s employees have spent 20 years or more with the company, the family said.

The first lot of masks will be made from the fabric the company ordinarily uses for napkins at high-end restaurants and will be crafted at a single-needle sewing machine. Once the design is set, they will program Gourmet’s machinery to scale up automated production. No one has been laid off, and Kammerman is not taking a salary to keep everyone together. He is hoping the bet pays off and normalcy returns.”

Trump openly admitting if we made voting easier in America, Republicans wouldn’t win elections

Trump: “The things they had in there were crazy. They had levels of voting, that if you ever agreed to it you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.”

I am not a German citizen. But everyone has to register a permanent address with the authorities. And if you are a citizen, it means you are automatically registered to vote in the precinct in which your permanent address is located.

You show up to the polls, you show your ID card (also mandatory for all citizens and residents) and you are crossed off the list.

Period.

Germany will have a general speed limit on its Autobahns long before America has any sort of system like that…

It is odd that in modern politics, a long record of public service can be a liability - opponents can go back and pick and choose aspects of it to attack, whereas a person with no record of public service and only a patchy history of private service (who does not release tax records) enjoys an advantage.

That needs to change.

This isn’t surprising nor shocking. Mount Sinai hospital (which I known unfortunately too well from my family experiences) is building a 68 bed ICU/respiratory unit in Central Park across from the hospital. There’s no where else that makes sense. It’s open space, it’s adjacent to the main hospital facility, and it’s able to be cordoned off without blocking street access to the facility while being accessible.

The hospital itself is in a superblock, so there’s no way to build extensions elsewhere or take away street space without blocking ambulance access. The ER is on the north side of the building, but you need to be able to maintain access both crosstown and up/downtown, so the only place that makes sense is directly across the street in Central Park.

I was just out in the garage trying to get a good radio signal and ran across Todd Starnes broadcasting over American Family Radio, still minimizing the pandemic threat, saying that NYC was still not using all the ventilators sent there. Willful ignorance and conservative propaganda is going to kill thousands before this is over.

Thousands have already died in the United States alone. And Trump’s willful ignorance contributed to those deaths.

Because having 100% utilization of ventilators now means that once the next patient comes in requiring ventilation your option is to turn them away/deny them care.

These people don’t get basic math or logic. And they’re fucking ghouls who don’t care.

Evangelicals massing in defiance of social distancing orders yesterday.

To any Lizards located anywhere near these megachurches: go out TODAY and stock up. In 6-14 days, your areas are going to be hit hard.

Here’s Berner logic: The guy whose campaign has admitted it couldn’t hope to do better than 30% of the vote in the primaries, and whose surrogates have blamed his subsequent losses on shadowy efforts by the party leadership to force other candidates out of the race so that only one candidate is running against their guy, is generating enough “enthusiasm” that he could totally beat Trump in a landslide if the party gives him the nomination.

It’s their only hope. I think they figure that *anyone* nominated by the Democrats can beat Trump as this stage.

In real life, Chovanec is likely surrounded by brilliant but generally amoral investment advisers who joke like that all the time. It probably came as a shock to him that anyone would interpret his statement literally.

But that’s been true for a long time — for decades columnists have discovered to their shock that no matter how obvious they think their parody is, someone (and maybe most readers) will take their words as gospel truth.

At my job, we’ve been told that we’re going to Agile as the process for doing our software development. Except one group has been allowed to not go to it, and that group has influence over our development, so we keep seeing attempts by that group to impose the old way in our development. So we are constantly making sarcastic comments that sound similar to what he said.

If you want to watch the slow-motion equivalent of Jim Jones & Guyana, here it is. Highlights include the admonition to “Satan and all the diseases he controls, BEGONE~!”

All about maintaining the grift as long as possible from the desperate.

Thanks for asking. Still a little shaky; get tired easily, and winded just walking up a flight of stairs. But all in all, super-lucky. Being able to self-administer a shot of oxygen in the middle of the night, when I was gasping, turned out to really make a difference.

Highly recommend getting your own supply, if you still can. Hospitals are going to be collapsing by the end of this week, not just in NYC but in Detroit, Chicago, Tampa, etc.
Apparently, there is a debate raging over whether or not you can jerry-rig a standard CPAP machine to be an emergency ventilator for patients who are not in full-on respiratory collapse.

Human gullibility is nothing new. Snake oil salesmen have been around as long as civilization has been around. People have been falling for stories or even jokes forever. I know that I’ve taken seriously comments that others meant in jest. The true problem arises when the storytelling is out of malice or can harm others when taken seriously.

I couldn’t imagine being on hold for up to 8 hrs before. Now it looks like I am going to have to accept that possibility tomorrow or when ever I can get in. Though to improve my chances of getting into line tomorrow morning I installed an auto redialer on my cell. Yes, but the point is — if your TP doesn’t multiply you know you have failed, so you keep quiet about it. You see that all your “fellow” believers claim it’s working for them so you know it’s your fault. The only way to deal with this is to double down, do whatever more extreme thing the pastor cult leader demands, that way you’ll be able to hide your lack of faith from the others.
