Trump was directly responsible for thousands of dead Americans long before the covid19 pandemic.

So covid19 is nothing new for him. Everything Trump touches dies, part one million and one.

Regarding that Sun article about burning 5G masts. It is a thing. I went for a more reliable and respectable source of news and I found it. Here’s the Guardian:

Telecoms engineers are facing verbal and physical threats during the lockdown, as baseless conspiracy theories linking coronavirus to the roll-out of 5G technology spread by celebrities such as Amanda Holden prompt members of the public to abuse those maintaining vital mobile phone and broadband networks.

Facebook has removed one anti-5G group in which users were being encouraged to supply footage of them destroying mobile phone equipment, with some contributors seemingly under the pretence that it may stop the spread of coronavirus and some running leaderboards of where equipment had been targeted.

Video footage of a 70ft (20 metre) telephone mast on fire in Birmingham this week has also circulated widely alongside claims it was targeted by anti-5G protesters. Network operator EE told the Guardian that its engineers were still on site assessing the cause of the fire but it “looks likely at this time” that it was an arson attack.

theguardian.com

There’s got to be a better word than Luddite. The Luddites were (rightly) afraid that their jobs were going away. These people are just nutters. Their jobs are not being threatened. Hell, their lives aren’t even being threatened. It’s like the people who were against smallpox vaccine. Someone have a better word???

Which is great, except that it’s spring and tornado and thunderstrom season and it has no roof…

Quick clarification. The beds are being set up at the indoor practice facility. About two blocks away from the UK Hospital main building. UK has a very large hospital system. Less than a mile north of the hospital is Samaritan Hospital. Less than a mile south is Central Baptist Hospital. There are other hospitals in Lexington as well. But in reality, Lexington has to be the hospital hub for most of Eastern KY-for things that can’t be handled in much of the rural areas.

Globally, deaths now make up 21% of “closed cases”.

This troubles me.

Even if we assume that 10x as many have contracted SARS-Cov-2 as the number of counted cases, that means the death rate is still over 2%.

We desperately need the antibody test to be made available in huge quantities, because we need to get a handle on how many people really have contracted the virus.

COVID has officially hit close to home. The neighbor across the street called our house phone. Mom answered. Her 30-something year old son who lives two blocks away was found in his home dead. Estranged wife found him. He tested positive. The mother. Poor woman. She also lost her daughter many years ago because of a car accident. I don’t know how she’s going to be able to mourn given the climate today. Nobody should have to outlive both children. Fuck anyone not taking this seriously.

“…More than 80 residents and employees at a Texas City nursing home have tested positive for the new coronavirus, the Galveston County Health District announced Friday.

The county health district announced late Thursday that it had tested 146 residents and employees at The Resort, a Texas City nursing home, after finding that 13 residents and employees tested positive for the virus last weekend. The health district became aware of the first positive case at The Resort on Saturday and saw an increase in positive coronavirus cases from the facility early this week.

The health district conducted the tests in partnership with the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and some results are still pending.

I’m glad that my mom’s parents just never fell for that. They never stopped being religious, Grandpa never stopped liking guns, and Grandma while she didn’t like abortion understood why it needed to be legal but they were New Deal Democrats till the end. I’ll always look at my maternal grandparents as fairly conservative compared to my Dad’s since I can’t imagine my mom’s parents having a martini together as my dad’s did or my mom’s father enjoying the 2000 year old man sketch but when I think about it, my grandmother did love Golden Girls and I remember they had a VHS of comic legends from the 40’s and 50’s that I watched a couple times at their old house when I was a little kid. I think my Grandpa liked Red Buttons. Not sure though since it’s been so long and I obviously can’t ask him.

Teapot Dome set the GOP baseline for corruption. Any ‘party of big business’ is going to be at least as corrupt as that.

The civil rights realignment and the resulting accumulation of most of the nation’s cranks, know-nothings and bigots into the GOP has created a toxic religious/political cult, where rampant corruption is justified because it pisses off liberals.

Lots of aftershocks, at varying depths, about 2km difference in depths.

This part of the mountains is pretty remote: goo.gl
Near the border of San Diego and Riverside counties. Beautiful wilderness but dry, except for the mountain peaks which get enough rain and snow to have some trees. Area is full of faults, always active.

The 800lb gorilla in the room is that Trump is the very model of a modern Republican.

There is no pathology in Trump that is not also dominant within the Republican party.

Therefore the media must normalize Trump as long as they continue with the Great Both-Siderist Lie of pretending that Republicans are a normal center-right political party.

They aren’t. They are as floridly malicious and insane as Trump himself.

The farm manager and his wife are in their house about 100 yards away. The nearest other person is half a mile away. I have plenty of food, my own water supply, fuel, and, if needed, my own electricity. It is one of the safest places in the world. Yet I still feel like running away and trying to hide somewhere. We have not has a pandemic like this in a century. So this is the first time nations around the world have acted so quickly to prevent millions of people dying.

Recent epidemics were regional and while high death rates of SARS and MERS made them scary, with rapid reaction the nations affected were able to contain them.

HIV is a slow rolling pandemic, but contracting the virus is just not as easy as an airborne or fomite-carried virus.

So we are sort of in a new regime here.

I was planning on retiring early in July. I’m lucky that I have a work pension to go with my SS, but I have a deferred comp account too that was down about 20% last time I looked. I’m starting to lose faith that I can count on the SS not somehow getting looted by TrumpCo and McConnell. I don’t know what the hell I want to do now. If I keep working, I still want to get out by September. I don’t know if it will make a bit of difference to keep working up until I know who the next president is.

People have been predicting the imminent demise of SS for at least 3 decades. Obviously I can’t guarantee that it will always be there, but I would say it is very likely that it will be.

You’re a lot closer to drawing on that SS than we are.

Which is why it’s not actually counted on in our retirement planning except as an additional layer in the safety net. Along with some form of inheritance from either side of the family. (If none of this comes through we should still be okay. It’s just gravy if it does. But the time with him is worth far more to me than a set amount of income, as long as we can manage together, and that’s a big part of what drives wanting to start the next phase. On the other hand, finding out the results of Nov and what that will mean for things like …health insurance… would also be good. So…)

On the plus side, we’d been taking action to prepare for this and were in a more conservative asset mix than before (and than we intend to stay in long term) so that’s a small silver lining.

Charlie Baker is the Republican governor of Massachusetts. The federal government has outbid us for supplies and seized orders we have placed. In order to get masks, Bob Kraft bought and flew in 1.7 million masks on the Patriots Plane (300,000 of those masks are for New York). The MA state government had to coordinate this with Kraft, the Chinese Ambassador, the Governor of Alaska and several other individuals to make this happen. It fucking ludicrous.
