Elizabeth Warren Endorses Joe Biden for President [FULL VIDEO]

I was an Elizabeth Warren supporter, and I voted for her in the California primary. And this exceptional endorsement video showcases the reasons why I thought she’d make a great president: eloquence, passion, empathy and laser-focused rationality.

I’m disappointed she won’t get that chance, but her statement makes me feel much better that Joe Biden will be the nominee.

Germany is planning to start loosening restrictions after May 3rd: partial reopening of schools to allow senior classes to prepare for their final exams, opening up smaller shops (the ones with less ability to withstand a long shutdown) but still no large public gatherings (e.g. concerts and sporting events) until August 31 and a request to restrict personal travel.

At least they can do sporting matches on TV without audiences.

I suppose they could just put up diamond-vision screens in the stands and sell Zoom tickets…

If Bernie had done the right thing after his heart attack, he would have dropped his vanity project and endorsed Elizabeth. The presumptive nominee might have been very different now and a woman. The votes for a candidate are often not based on policy but on temperament and (maybe) experience; certainly many Warren supporters, when it appeared she no longer had a path to victory, switched their votes to Biden because they were not fans of Bernie’s personality, even though they were not opposed to his policies.

I get the idea of a “caretaker” government to pull everything back together. I get why Joe is preferred by many for that.

But damn if Warren wouldn’t have been an excellent president.

Part of me wishes she would have run in 2016. I think it could have very well played out like 2008, in both the primary and the general.

When we do inevitably start to open things back up again, I really hope it’s slowly. Kind of on a staggered basis. Stores should still limit the number of people allowed inside at one time. Someone to wipe carts down. Cashiers being protected by plexiglass, and cleaning their register area after every customer. All employees required to wear masks/gloves. All customers too. Still offer curbside pickup for everything.

Unfortunately I don’t know how restaurant waitstaff will ever get their jobs back until there’s a vaccine. Opening dining rooms just isn’t a good idea at all. Even if they space people out and limit customers.

Having lived in Germany since 1988, it would be nice to say I come from a country that is ready for a female leader…but even the first time Angela Merkel campaigned for Chancellor in 2001, she was shut down by the male chauvinist faction her own party, the CDU.

They ran some technocrat asshole from Bavaria, whom nobody really liked, and lost by 1% to the Socialst/Green coalition - and finally learned their lesson and let her campaign in 2005.

My concern is that people will people will be so gung ho to get out doing things again that the reopening will quickly spiral out of control.

It is also just a case of people having to get back to work to keep the bills paid and food on the table…but nonetheless, people are going to avoid crowded venues, multiplexes, cruise ships, amusement parks and airports/airplanes in large numbers, enough to seriously dampen the recovery rate.

And just about when it starts to pick up, we get a second wave.

re: #8 GlutenFreeJesus

I’ve been really impressed by the number of meals people must have eaten out in “the before times.” Our local grocery store is just slammed with customers. Some of that is people ordering through Instacart or whatever and the drivers don’t know their way around the store, so are slow. However, they have “senior hour” every morning and there are still lines to get into the store. Since it normally isn’t packed most of the time, it’s not just limiting the number of people in the store that is creating the back-up.

Speaking as someone who never ate out all that much it is rather remarkable.

All of this is pushing on a rope. First, he didn’t fucking do anything, so it’s hard to undo it. And you can demand all you like that things open up; doesn’t mean that many people are going out until they think it’s safe enough to do so.

But it looks like the Trump businesses are losing enormous amounts of money, so he’s going to wave his magic wand and everything will be back to normal.

Some people see Joe’s greatest asset as a weakness - I don’t - but here it is: he is one of the few old guard politicians left from an era where when you were elected you tried to represent everyone without exception. You can’t do that if you don’t listen or aren’t willing to hear the other person’s argument, and to give the notion consideration and its fair weight. He’s going to piss a few people off doing that, but the only person I know who’s better than Joe just endorsed him here, so I am getting 100 percent behind him.

I was thinking a few hours ago about, in a way, how this is the gut check of all times for Republicans and conservatives. All this fucking sqwaking about being the only true caretakers of the Constitution for decades on end has led to this moment: do the right thing and vote for Biden.

Trump wants to be dictator and your party’s leadership has protected him every goddamn step of the way. If Obama was up there ranting about total power, they’d have already assassinated him at this point.

You don’t have to like it. You can, cry, scream, drink, clutch your Bible, go to the shooting range, whatever. You give a shit about this country, you pull the lever for Biden. Full stop.

You guys created this mess and now it’s time to put your money where your mouths supposedly are.

Based on the two conversations I’ve had with conservatives over the last two weeks, I just don’t think they have it in them.

We live in an the Age of the New Media Reality where a long and transparent record of public service is a deficit: it gives your opponents tons of material to cherry-pick and use against you.

The thing that got Trump elected was his ability to sell himself as the ultimate outsider and non-politician. Which makes it important to really nail him on his record:

kids in cages
tax cut-induced deficits
“It’s a hoax!”

Think of this in terms of a traditional war. We did the lockdown and social distance to cut down the number of bullets flying through the air, not end the war.

When we start to reopen, that’s more potential bullets flying through the air so we have to really think about many guns we want firing.

It’s not until we get a vaccine or a proven effective treatment that the bullets stop and the war ends.

Grievance politics. These people think every time someone tells them something that conflicts with their worldview, the next logical step is being marched into a death camp.

That is literally the only thing Trump is good at: conning people. He saw easy these people would willingly stick their heads up his ass if he just mimicked what they were thinking.

i understand that some people ‘need’ to do things - critical things to survive.
you do what you have to do

they can ‘open up’ whatever they like.

i am not going to literally take my life in my hands, and the lives of those around me, to do anything that isnt absolutely necessary.

im lucky i work from home as does mrs dm. and we dont socialize much. and most of our family is not nearby so we’d be talking airplanes etc, so that’s not happening.

i get families, wants, desires, pulls, tugs. friends, relationships, etc.

mom is 91. she’s 6 miles away. we talk every day. she just learned to video chat. i only go there maybe once a week and each time i feel like the clock has to be reset to zero.

so it’s a no brainer for me. things that didnt used to carry risk now do. like leaving the house or seeing family, getting a pizza. on balance, they’re not important enough for me. these are risks im not willing to take.

The Michigan militia fucknuts are divorced from reality and think covid19 isn’t going to affect them personally and directly with infections and hospitalizations and deaths.

This disease doesn’t give a shit about your politics. It just infects and spreads.

As for NJ, shore towns have shuttered their boardwalks, closed parks, above and beyond the state restrictions. Some towns have banned all short term rentals until further notice to stop out-of-towners from coming in.

• AVALON: Mayor Martin Pagliughi announced on April 6 that all short-term rentals have been banned indefinitely and prohibited all non-essential travel to the town. The mayor’s directive also shut down all public beaches and the boardwalk until further notice.

• CAPE MAY: City officials issued an executive order on March 30 to close all of the beaches and its Promenade until further notice. Then, on April 5, city officials placed an indefinite ban on short-term rentals.

• CAPE MAY POINT: Borough officials announced on March 30 that all beaches and the Pavilion Circle have been closed off to the public until further notice. An executive order was then issued by Mayor Robert Moffatt on April 6 suspending all short-term rentals until May 22.

• MIDDLE TOWNSHIP: Town officials instituted a ban on short-term rentals on April 6 that will run until at least May 18.

• OCEAN CITY: Mayor Jay Gillian announced on March 25 that its beaches and boardwalks would be closed until further notice. Then, on March 29, Gillian said that the town was banning all short-term rentals indefinitely.

Germany is planning to start loosening restrictions after May 3rd: partial reopening of schools to allow senior classes to prepare for their final exams, opening up smaller shops (the ones with less ability to withstand a long shutdown) but still no large public gatherings (e.g. concerts and sporting events) until August 31 and a request to restrict personal travel.

we will likely go this way as well. no major gatherings for sporting events, but there’s no way in hell college football won’t be getting played this Fall. classes will run, but they’ll be hybrid so not as many in-person contacts. there will be massive, verging on paranoid, testing on campus: random temperature checks, random testing, blah blah blah. students will likely have to consent to having gps monitoring on phones that will allow pretty much immediate contact if a student has been in the vicinity of someone who is infectious.

Madam Speaker is tired of Trump’s bullshit. Moreover, she can see that Trump’s constant lies and obfuscations have cost the country a great deal already via the bungled COVID-19 response and that his mendacity going forward will continue to cause harm to public health and economic recovery efforts. And she’s not fucking having it, okay?

we will likely go this way as well. no major gatherings for sporting events, but there’s no way in hell college football won’t be getting played this Fall. classes will run, but they’ll be hybrid so not as many in-person contacts. there will be massive, verging on paranoid, testing on campus: random temperature checks, random testing, blah blah blah. students will likely have to consent to having gps monitoring on phones that will allow pretty much immediate contact if a student has been in the vicinity of someone who is infectious.

I’m hearing plenty of knowledgeable people saying that universities are unlikely to bring students back on campus until there is a vaccine, so fall 2021, and that MIT and Harvard, among others, are making such plans.

Many problems for the forthcoming academic year, of course, including some not wanting to pay huge tuition for online classes, and changes - such as rich Asian kids getting Michigan degrees from online-only classes.

This is a 7.5 or higher on the higher ed Richter scale.

I’d have gone even further on the force protection - directly mentioning the crew of the USS Theodore Roosevelt who were hung out to dry by the Navy command, and now the ship is laid up since 600+ members are sick and 1 member has already died of covid19. Trump, instead of praising the captain, had him sacked. His undersecretary spent $250k to go out to the ship to harangue the crew, and he was sacked/resigned days later. The Navy has fucked up their response to covid19 just as surely as Trump has done, because they didn’t take it seriously enough, or were told not to do so.

Either way, we’re far worse off than had Trump let the experts lead the way.

Hell, even here in crazy South Carolina, it’s pretty well shut down:

On March 26, 2020, the Myrtle Beach City Council approved an Emergency Order to halt all short-term accommodations and amusement attractions in Myrtle Beach.

What type of accommodations are affected by the order? All short term rentals in the City of Myrtle Beach are affected. These include: hotels, condo hotels, motels, public and private campgrounds, time shares, and any rental properties available for 90 days or less, including all accommodations through private management companies and online companies, such as Airbnb and VRBO.

What about individual owners of units?
If a property is occupied as a year-round primary residence, the unit may be used exclusively by that owner while the emergency order is in effect.
If a property is used exclusively as a second home, and is not used as a rental property in any way, then the unit may be used solely by that owner while the emergency order is in effect.
If, however, that unit is used for rentals, regardless of the frequency, then the unit may not be used by the property owner while the emergency order is in effect.

What types of amusement attractions and related services are affected by the order?

Movie Theaters
Live Performance Theaters
Amusement Parks
Waterparks
Arcades
Moped and Golf Cart Rental Operations
Mini Golf Courses
Golf Courses (although locals’ play is allowed)
Beach Chair and Umbrella Rentals
Jet Ski, Parasailing and Banana Boat Rentals on the beach
Other commercial activity on the beach
Is the beach closed? Public access points and parking lots to all state’s beaches, as well as public boat ramps, landings and other access points on the state’s lakes, rivers and waterways are closed

But never fear, GUN STORES are open!

So I rooted about in the pantry to see what my supply of dry beans looked like. Fewer pintos than I thought (just the last of what was a 5lb bag years ago), but I got together a couple of cups from a few sources. Into the slow cooker they have gone with various flavorings (diced onion, diced jalapeno, garlic, spices) and we’ll see how long it takes to get them tender. Will probably eat them with rice or mashed potatoes.

Might make this a weekly thing to start working through these. Noticed I have a couple of jars of black-eyed peas as well.

Vitamin D and Immunity, Lots of Evidence

Related link (US NIH) —included w/Dr Campbell’s YT posting:
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
Excerpt:

Abstract

The world is in the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic. Public health measures that can reduce the risk of infection and death in addition to quarantines are desperately needed. This article reviews the roles of vitamin D in reducing the risk of respiratory tract infections, knowledge about the epidemiology of influenza and COVID-19, and how vitamin D supplementation might be a useful measure to reduce risk. Through several mechanisms, vitamin D can reduce risk of infections. Those mechanisms include inducing cathelicidins and defensins that can lower viral replication rates and reducing concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines that produce the inflammation that injures the lining of the lungs, leading to pneumonia, as well as increasing concentrations of anti-inflammatory cytokines. Several observational studies and clinical trials reported that vitamin D supplementation reduced the risk of influenza, whereas others did not. Evidence supporting the role of vitamin D in reducing risk of COVID-19 includes that the outbreak occurred in winter, a time when 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentrations are lowest; that the number of cases in the Southern Hemisphere near the end of summer are low; that vitamin D deficiency has been found to contribute to acute respiratory distress syndrome; and that case-fatality rates increase with age and with chronic disease comorbidity, both of which are associated with lower 25(OH)D concentration. To reduce the risk of infection, it is recommended that people at risk of influenza and/or COVID-19 consider taking 10,000 IU/d of vitamin D3 for a few weeks to rapidly raise 25(OH)D concentrations, followed by 5000 IU/d. The goal should be to raise 25(OH)D concentrations above 40-60 ng/mL (100-150 nmol/L). For treatment of people who become infected with COVID-19, higher vitamin D3 doses might be useful. Randomized controlled trials and large population studies should be conducted to evaluate these recommendations.

Supporters of the Michigan Conservative Coalition (MCC) urged Whitmer to reopen the state’s non-essential businesses on May 1 while urging their own members to practice social distancing during the “Operation Gridlock” protest, local news radio station WWJ reported.

and who funds them?

In a statement at a news conference earlier this week, the governor pointed out that the MCC is funded in large part by the family of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, which is very active in Michigan conservative politics.

i understand that some people ‘need’ to do things - critical things to survive.
you do what you have to do

they can ‘open up’ whatever they like.

i am not going to literally take my life in my hands, and the lives of those around me, to do anything that isnt absolutely necessary.

im lucky i work from home as does mrs dm. and we dont socialize much. and most of our family is not nearby so we’d be talking airplanes etc, so that’s not happening.

i get families, wants, desires, pulls, tugs. friends, relationships, etc.

mom is 91. she’s 6 miles away. we talk every day. she just learned to video chat. i only go there maybe once a week and each time i feel like the clock has to be reset to zero.

so it’s a no brainer for me. things that didnt used to carry risk now do. like leaving the house or seeing family, getting a pizza. on balance, they’re not important enough for me. these are risks im not willing to take.

Just had a video chat with my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter (if you can “chat” with a nearly 10 month old.) We are fortunate to have the modern magical ability to do this.
I did ask my daughter about her metrics for actual physical presence and she promised to keep me posted. The word “testing” came up more than once.
Her hospital now has one of those quick result testing units. No actual test kits though.
What would also be helpful is antibody testing.
Anyway, I’m hoping for a get together in some outdoor venue without physical contact in a few weeks. We shall see.

And yeah, I understand that people want life to get back to normal, but it just isn’t possible yet. People need to grow up-especially all those people carrying on about personal responsibility.

Speaking as someone who never ate out all that much it is rather remarkable.

Thought the same about my family - “we only go out for Sunday brunch, that’s not much”. However, family of 4 is roughly 80 meals a week (usually only 2 meals on Sunday - brunch and supper). Sunday brunch counts for 4 meals (5%) out of the 80 and then the 2 young ones have 5 meals each a week at school for another 10 meals (12.5%) out of the 80 and then, of course, I inevitably would get talked into abandoning my left overs for lunch at work at least twice a week. So, easily 20% of our meals were outside the home during the school year.

Going from 64 meals a week at home to 80 meals a week at home is a 25% increase in grocery needs and that falls roughly in line with the increase in sales that grocery stores have been seeing.

Yes, there’s always math.

You can’t do that if you don’t listen or aren’t willing to hear the other person’s argument, and to give the notion consideration and its fair weight. He’s going to piss a few people off doing that, but the only person I know who’s better than Joe just endorsed him here, so I am getting 100 percent behind him.

I’m fortunate to be able to be a remote worker for several years - but given what we currently know of SARS-Cov2, the only way that things will ever get back to normal is:

(1) An antiviral medication which has a 90% curative rate, and

Failure of either will result in a new normal that the US can’t handle.

re: #306 retired cynic

Shoot. That pot of beans I wrote about yesterday has been simmering for 24 hours, and I kept adding bits of water. The beans are still almost crunchy. I soaked them for a day in salt water, because they were old, but still… Any ideas? Dump them in the pressure cooker and bring them to steam and shut them off? That’s my next plan. Thanks!

Here are a few ideas that may (or may not) help:

Sometimes hard water can cause problems with beans softening. The remedy for that is to use bottled water.

Sometimes adding some baking soda to the soak will help the beans soften. However, some folks notice a weird texture and/or strange taste to the beans after adding baking soda.

Reportedly nuking them in water 10-20 minutes helps. (Not tried this.)

Sometimes boiling them for an hour or two helps.

Sometimes using the pressure cooker rather than a slow cooker will help.

Some folks claim to have told their meal guests that the beans were supposed to be ‘Al Dente’. I have not tried that. :)

Some folks declare it ‘Pizza Night’ and order out.

Sometimes the non-softening beans are ‘too old’ and trying a different batch purchased from a high turnover store may help.

At the point that I declare the beans ‘too old’ I am generally saying that I have no idea why this batch of beans aren’t softening and it is just easier to replace the recalcitrant beans with a different batch and to hope that those will work better.

Which reminds me of the very old joke about the Bostonian who goes into the restaurant and asks the server what the soup de jour is. The server says “It’s Bean Soup”. To which the Bostonian replies “I don’t care what it’s been. I want to know what it is now!”

I’m not sure this dude would ever settle for living off of $120 an HOUR, much less $120 a week. Yet he expects entire families to be able to stretch out $1,200 over 2 and a half months.

A girlfriend of mine is on the board of directors for one anime con and works staff for a few others. They cancelled theirs for the year and she expects the next big one to go soon - even if the large gathering orders are lifted soon (which we both regard as highly unlikely), there’s issues with not having enough lead time for vendors to complete the necessary prep, etc. Lots of ripple effects.

Had to go to the local Market Basket to get some things for my wife today. We were lined up outside, very efficient. Then a guy jumped in behind me getting way too close so I turned and looked at him and he backed off to the place that was marked on the pavement. Then he said to himself but loud enough so that I could hear: “fuck this shit. look at all the people who’ve fallen for this shit.”

This after my encounter with the guy at the gas station yesterday talking about how masks don’t work so take at least 5000 units of D3 and get some hydroxychloroquine….

Fortunately I think I’ve got enough for a week or so. It’s getting a little hairy out there.

Two more suggestions that I had not included:

1. Acidic foods may prevent softening. (America’s Test Kitchen reportedly found that beans in a ph 7-9 liquid softened faster than in an acidic liquid. Iirc, at ph 3 [acidic] the beans never completely softened.)

2. Try putting the beans in a blender and using the puree for a soup base. (Not tried that.)

But on the Get My Payment page, it instructs me that if I filed for 2018 but not 2019 that I need to electronically file for 2019 if I have not already done so.

I have not done 2019 yet (intentionally put it off). Perhaps this is why the Get My Payment is telling me it can’t determine my eligibility?? Even though the top page instructions says “or” 2018??

This is so confusing.

Maybe I’ll just electronically file anyway and see what happens. (Glad I didn’t do paper this year as the IRS is now saying it can’t process paper.)

The Bob Cesca Show Interview: Brian Karem vs Donald Trump 4/15/20

Brian Karem vs Donald Trump — The great Brian Karem, White House reporter for Playboy Magazine, returns to the show. On Tuesday, Trump referred to Brian as “nothing but trouble,” “a showboat,” and “a loudmouth,” but the best part of the exchange was when Brian clearly got under Trump’s make-up slathered skin, to the point of nearly ending the entire press conference prematurely. So today we’ll ask Brian about everything that went down, and a whole lot more. WATCH THE CLIP HERE. Meanwhile, please support this podcast by subscribing to our bonus content at bobcescashow.com.

What I finally did was go to efile.com and select their free filing that is just for the stimulus. Takes your bank and ID info and sends it to that he IRS.

But the IRS already has my bank info. I just looked and yes, the IRS did take autopayments for my back taxes last year.

Furthermore I have an IRS online account, which I did to arrange these payments. So I just checked this account, and now there is an entire another layer of security. So the account page now asks for verification, wants to send a message to my phone… and when I give it my phone number the site says it is not able to verify my number (it’s a T-mobile subscription.)

Sigh…

Yes, more than $1200 total.
The PPP seems to have some loopholes that may provide more benefit to the employer than the workforce.

Enhanced unemployment:

The benefit amount allowed in your state. The formula used to calculate this amount varies by state, as does the maximum weekly benefit.
An additional $600 a week of Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation. You can receive this amount even if you’ve exhausted your state benefits.
marketwatch.com

Paycheck Protection Program:

The Paycheck Protection Program is a loan designed to provide a direct incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll.

SBA will forgive loans if all employees are kept on the payroll for eight weeks and the money is used for payroll, rent, mortgage interest, or utilities.

OK, IANACS* , but while the President does, AFAIK, have the authority to “convene” Congress ( as I read this, to mean to call for a special session, and/ or joint sessions when/if either house is not in session already), I’m not sure that Power Of Adjournment is even relevant in today’s world, since I can’t recall any occasion when there has been any “disagreement” about Congress adjourning.
Of course, at the time the Constitution was written, Congress only met for a session of a few months every year: maybe this provision (which I wonder if any President has actually used) was more relevant when Senators and Congressmen had to ride for weeks on horseback to get to Washington.
But I’m sure there are some MAGAts out there who imagine this gives Trump autocratic powers to summon or dismiss Congress like, say, King Charles I** dealing with recalcitrant Parliaments…***

*clarifications graciously accepted, as always
** whose ultimate fate Trump ought to consider….

What an abject moron. Trump is threatening to adjourn congress. He cannot do it.

For no other reason can he adjourn them.

re: #171 ckkatz

I was wondering if the bank waits until midnight (or some similar zero dark thirty) to clear and post funds from the previous day.

I can speak to this from personal experience! We got the umpity jillion transactions we had to process in several batches over the weekend. Last night/this morning they were put through our system and successfully posted to accounts. I verified by seeing some money posted in my account. I would note that there is a percentage—about 1 percent or so, that are going to reject for some reason or another (things like, that account is closed now, etc.), and a LOT of people were brought in to do reject repair today.

I’d also note that there are supposed to be two, smaller transaction dumps this coming weekend and the weekend after that, with posting again on the following Wednesdays (April 22, April 29). I do not know what it takes to end up in the following batches. We just process what we get from the Fed. Hope this helps.

I would also point out that my evil too big to fail employer is getting hammered across all channels with people wanting information. Probably every bank is.

On the home front, my mother set a bag of popcorn on fire by leaving it in the microwave too long. Nothing serious burnt up (except the bag of popcorn). My brother says the house smells like smoke and death. He’s got every window open to air the place out. Thank God it didn’t happen in July! I’m going to have to go over there tomorrow and have a chat with her, I suppose.

He can force them to Adjourn if they can’t agree on when to Adjourn to.. Adjourn means to ‘break until a future date.’ To do this, he needs to Convene congress then they have to not be able to agree on a time to return from Adjournment.

Which means he has no clue what any of that means and things he can shut down Congress because he’s the emperor.

The clipboard is where stuff you copy goes until you paste it.

Open a program that takes image pastes, like paint or wordpad, and hit control-v

I know what the clipboard is. The problem is that the image had not been appearing in the snip and sketch window. It just did this last time. Have no idea what the problem has been. As far as I could see, I would take a shot and it would disappear into thin air. It would not paste into paint either. Yeah, I’m still using the “snipping tool” which is the older version still in Windows 10… unless a recent patch removed it. Haven’t looked at “snip and sketch” yet.

The other trick in Windows is simply the print screen key on you keyboard - it sends the entire display output to the clipboard. …this is less helpful because it’s the ENTIRE display output, even if you have multiple monitors, and you’ll inevitably need to edit it down.

- The window with your snip will appear. This can be annotated and highlighted.
- If you click the “windows” icon in the top center by mistake, just click on the window under it. The capture will then appear.

I have uploaded an image to show you. When you’ve captured the screenshot, you should see something like this.

I’ve been fond of comparing the GOP gentry to the French aristocracy of the Revolutionary period, and I think it holds, but I do wonder how many of them could be as brave and composed as Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette both were when they were on the scaffold to be guillotined?
Louis made a well reasoned, though necessarily brief, speech in his own defense, while Marie was composed and dignified the whole way and even apologized when she accidentally stepped on the executioner’s foot.

The IRS is confusing me. It says if you have filed for 2018 or 2019 (and meet the other requirements ) one is eligible.

I ALWAYS do old-fashioned paper (except for 2017 when we had a pro do our taxes) and mailed off 2019’s last week. We got our Trumpbucks deposited in our checking account late last night.

Holding down the ALT key whilst pressing Print Screen sends the output of the currently active window to the clipboard rather than the whole screen. From there it’s easy to run Windows Paint, (which is part of Windows 10) and do Control-V to retrieve the screengrab, and then save it.

Remember that “great deal” Trump managed for the new Air Force One? The one they saved money buying used, no mid ir refueling? Yeah the one that will not fit in the hangar so it gets an expensive new roost. Oh and THIS.

Just Boeing’s Manuals For New Air Force One Jets Cost A Whopping $84 Million

It is hard to really get one’s head around the fiscal scale of the Air Force One recapitalization program. the program’s total price tag, including things like new hangars and other ancillary items, comes in at $5.3B. The aircraft themselves will cost $4.7B, making them the most expensive planes ever made. This runs counter to the claims by President Trump that he personally slashed the cost of the jets. You can read more about this cost breakdown here.

“Nothing is cheap in aviation and especially when it comes to flying the President, but an F-35’s worth of manuals is amazing to comprehend.”

Boeing better not get any bailout money after that.

Had to take some classes on cradle-to-grave procurement processes at Defense Acquisition University. An instructor claimed that the documentation for a particular cargo lifter would not fit inside the plane. Or so I remember.

I ALWAYS do old-fashioned paper (except for 2017 when we had a pro do our taxes) and mailed off 2019’s last week. We got our Trumpbucks deposited in our checking account late last night.

Well, the IRS website now says they are not accepting paper.

IRS urges taxpayers to use electronic options; outlines online assistance

Paper Tax Returns: All taxpayers should file electronically through their tax preparer, tax software provider or IRS Free File if possible. The IRS is not currently able to process individual paper tax returns. If you already have filed via paper but it has not yet been processed, do not file a second tax return or write to the IRS to inquire about the status of your return or your economic impact payment. Paper returns will be processed once processing centers are able to reopen. This year, more than 90% of taxpayers have filed electronically.

If you filed in 2018 and had a return amount direct deposited, then the IRS probably used that information, not the 2019 filing.

I guess I’ll do an electronic filing by Monday, and see if that makes a difference in my Get My Bucks website.

Always wanted to do paper. Maybe it’s nostalgia, but the ritual is more impressing that sitting at a website for a few minutes and everything else being invisible.

I’m hoping Biden chooses a young person of color. So I’m not onboard with Maddow pushing Warren. If the Dems retake the Senate, Warren is needed to head up a committee or two.

I use a desktop tax-prep program. It’s the best of both worlds; the speed and ease of e-filing, but the ritual procedure of carefully putting in all the right numbers, double-checking the forms, dotting i’s, crossing t’s, and then… hitting the Submit button.

I wouldn’t get too hung up on the idea of a Warren vice presidency. She’s needed in the Senate, and she can’t give up her seat because it would be filled by an appointment by a Republican governor. Charlie Baker is a very decent Republican, as such things go, but he’s still going to put a Republican in that seat if given the chance.

Trump and the GOP are the epitome of Neutral Greedy. Don’t give a fuck about laws or chaos (freedom!) as long as either can be exploited for their own gain. Don’t have them as Chaotic as they understand about sticking together enough to mutually benefit to some degree.
