Huffington Post Responds to Chuck C. “Rage Furby” Johnson’s Defamation Suit: “Plaintiff Is an Unabashed, Well-Known, Far-Right Political Activist”

“Notorious for making racially offensive, anti-Semitic, and homophobic statements online and in other media”
Media • Views: 36,744

You may have heard that infamous far right jackweasel Chuck C. Johnson (who is NOT ME) recently filed a defamation lawsuit against the Huffington Post for accurately reporting what he’s written, said and done, evidently hoping for some cash from a settlement.

This week, HuffPo’s legal team responded to Chuck’s complaint, and it’s a hoot to read, something I wouldn’t normally say about legal documents. You can tell they enjoyed doing this one.

I’m pleased to note that one of my own articles about this thoroughly repellent human is cited in their arguments.

And while we’re talking about Rage Furby (ewww), keep this in mind as well:

and

On March 17 2020, the Wall Street Journal stated that Clearview was pitching their technology to states for use in contact tracing to assist with the coronavirus pandemic…

Cybersecurity expert Josephine Wolff called out Clearview in a New York Times op-ed, “The United States government’s engagement with the facial recognition company Clearview AI on coronavirus tracking is especially worrisome in this regard”, and that “The company’s product is still every bit as dangerous, invasive and unnecessary as it was before the spread of the coronavirus.”

Gov Beshear reported only 3 deaths in Kentucky today, but as always he didn’t celebrate as each death is sad. Testing is expanding, but based on plans that call for 500k or 1 million tests a day to reopen the country (some experts say we need more like 3 million a day), Kentucky would need to conduct 7k to 14k tests every day. We have conducted a total of 48k, a bit less than we need every week, at a minimum. Not Beshear’s fault, Trump has failed to use his authority to get all the supplies needed to test for the nation.

The Al Franken debacle was a travesty and I’m still pissed at the Democrats for it. (He was one of my senators.) I still fully support the #MeToo movement, but I’m trying to show them how easily it can be weaponized by someone with an agenda and manipulated.

“You know what, let’s face it,” Lopinto said during a press conference Friday. “Good, bad, or indifferent, no matter what, we had several juveniles that were out at 3 o’clock in the morning that shouldn’t have been out, not only during the COVID but just not out in general. ‘We’re basically ill-prepared’: Hobbled House majority frets about its effectiveness amid pandemic, WaPo

Questioned about the Post story, Pelosi acknowledged the exasperation within her caucus. She said she backs remote voting but bipartisan support from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was crucial before moving ahead with any changes.
“I share the frustration that they have about the committees,” she said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I’m all for doing the remote voting by proxy. I want it to be bipartisan. The Republican leader, Mr. McCarthy, has assured me that he will consider this. He’s not there yet. He could be there.”
…Last week, Pelosi endorsed a plan devised by House Rules Committee Chairman Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) to allow for proxy voting in limited circumstances — permitting members to authorize a colleague to vote on the floor on their behalf — but Republicans erupted in protest, and plans for a vote were postponed.

And the Klown Kar Kleptocracy can’t wrangle the head clown.

“For the first time, I feel like he gets it that these [daily press briefings] aren’t helping him,” said one source who spoke to Trump on Friday.

But two others who spoke to Trump the same day about his press conferences said he was still insisting his performances were helping him, as evidenced by the ratings. This is why White House staff are still skittish about saying Trump will definitely wind down his appearances. Source: Axios

“Expect to see a pivot from the White House in the days ahead, focusing on the economy and a more hopeful, forward-looking message,” one of these officials said. Source: Axios

Good luck with that. By Friday, Trump will be screaming that “everyone gets a haircut” Oprah style. The ratings will be beautiful.

His job is to appear to be working hard as a leader. Because you know that actually doing it (and caring) is hard and ages the crap out of you. All he wanted from the office was the pomp, glory, and media attention while he cruised through his day and had underlings do the actual work.

So we get a rudderless Executive since Pence is incapable of covering, and Trump wouldn’t allow Pence to cross his whims even if Pence had any ability. It’s an ideal time for folk like Bannon and Stephen Miller since they can push agendas from the shadows that Trump is quite willing to go along with since they play to his biases.

(And compared to Martin Sheen in “The Dead Zone” it appears that we’re lucky in that Trump appears to not quite be willing to start a war yet on a whim.)

I’m going to try bagels tomorrow. I have all the ingredients, except for the “Everything” topping but I think I can mix my own from stuff I already have on hand. Found a nice recipe at (where else) King Arthur Flour.

Onion powder, pepper, garlic, cheese… what am I missing?

The “Everything” mix requires dried garlic pieces and dried onion pieces, but I am not going to the trouble of dehydrating onions and garlic, I will just use the powders.

Honestly, the texture of onion and garlic (dehydrated, raw, and cooked) puts me off a bit. So, in other words, I might actually prefer your version of everything bagels.

Covid Diaries: What Counts?

Note: I write this for me, as a reminder to my future self on what was in my mind. There is no plot; this is just the ramblings of a man recovering from a virus. Read it at your pleasure or your peril.

I’m getting better, but doing anything is still a struggle. I have a sink full of dishes that I will get to soon enough. I sleep during the day and can’t sleep at night. It’s not healthy, but I can’t seem to reverse the pattern. Since I have no taste, and no morning ritual, I often forget to brush my teeth in the morning/afternoon. Thank god for masks.

What counts? At first I wanted to be counted, as a survivor of Covid-19. I have all the symptoms, but have never been tested. They are only testing the really sick. So, I have it, can’t “prove it” and realize it really doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters to me, and the few that love me, is to stay off the list of the dead that is growing on a daily basis.

I must confess, I check the number of dead before I go so sleep and when I wake up. I have no idea what the number means or how to give it meaning I just know that every one of those numbers represents a human that has left behind loved ones and I’m lucky not to be counted on the list.

On social media I hear people who can’t wait to “get back to normal.”

1) There is no going back.
2) Normal wasn’t that great to begin with.
This is not to say that I wouldn’t love to be at Yankee Stadium enjoying a beer. Sounds great, but I think we can, and must do, better than normal. We can make some changes and protect the planet and help those that need it. It’s will not be easy, but either is this. In short, going back to normal is like flying to Paris to eat at MacDonald’s and immediately returning home. It’s going to the prom with your sister…

We can do better.

Stuart

PS Perhaps in my next update I will post a pic. I haven’t shaved since ????

This sounds like a variation on a plot from a medical drama where they “code” something incorrectly so that a procedure is covered under a patient’s insurance.

It’s called “up-coding”. It’s fraud, and people can go to jail for it.

You obviously wouldn’t falsely claim to be treating a disease, since a legitimate case would leave antibodies.

re: #161 Eclectic Cyborg

Ugh, I hate this stupid conspiracy theory that hospitals are somehow getting more money by labeling deaths as Covid-19 than by other causes and as a result the death figures are artificially inflated.

A lot of friends I thought knew better are falling for this one.

This is part of the reason why the old internet adage of ‘Ignore the trolls’ simply doesn’t work in political environments, especially the one we’re in. The idea of ‘ignore the trolls’ assumes that trolls can be starved of attention, oxygen, and they’ll give up, or that people are smart enough to know that trolls are trolls, that their BS is just that and that debating them simply would give them the attention they crave.

Except that now the trolls are the one with the support systems, the very attention that gives them oxygen and life, and because they can keep at it, the big lie is in effect. Anything that can be repeated ad nauseam to the extent that modern trolls do can be assumed true just from the sheer repetition, and that means even smart people will fall for sheer bullshit just because they keep hearing it, and keep hearing it. And if no one fights against it, then there’s nothing to tell them that this IS bullshit.

I know that’s already a hobby horse of Charles’, but it’s still worth repeating, because apparently the only way people can get anything in their heads is to repeat the truth more often than the BS. And that is….depressingly….a battle we’re struggling to win.

You know, the Times screwed the pooch yet again when DougJ’s twitter, named ‘New York Times Pitchbot’, just…links one of their pieces directly, with no commentary.

And for choice passages:

Carlos Curbelo, a Republican former Florida congressman who clashed at times with Mr. Trump and did not vote for him, said the president’s comments on disinfectants were likely to resonate precisely because he was running a race premised largely on Mr. Biden’s mental capacity.

“Given Joe Biden’s gaffes and mistakes, I think the Trump campaign had a strong narrative there,” he said. “At the very least, that advantage was completely erased.”

——

The president can register as more time-bending than Teflon. Plenty sticks to him; it just tends to be buried quickly enough by the next stack of outrages, limiting the exposure of any single one.

The second is just…man. The self-awareness at that paper is absolutely non-existent, isn’t it?
