More Armed ‘Boogaloo’ Terrorists To Storm North Carolina Capitol Because Haircuts And Civil War (Wonkette)

Said terrorists are doing that now. Unlike Michigan yesterday, North Carolina does not permit firearms on capitol property.

That said, the police are not moving in to arrest them.

They organised it through the closed Facebook group of the woman who deliberately broke quarantine after testing positive. Facebook will not remove the group, because Facebook supports fascists.

Moments after saying she wouldn’t lie, she lies repeatedly:

Media should stop treating these liars as anything but. It’s what they do. All the time. There’s no factual information at any of these dog and pony shows. It’s Trump spewing nonsense (or spewing via his spokeshacks) and the media dutifully repeating it. Even when they try fact checking, it’s only after they report Trump’s lies.

We know this wasn’t manmade or originated in the Wuhan lab. That’s Trump spewing conspiracy theories originating in the right wing fever swamps.

This entirely defeats the purpose of wearing a mask, while the reverend here unwittingly perpetuates racist stereotypes. (On the other hand, there probably aren’t good answers to racist stereotypes, because they are not going to go away today.)

KWQC-TV (NBC, Davenport, Iowa)

Local group asks you to “tip your mask” to help prevent racial biases

EAST MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) - Since the CDC recommended everyone wears face masks when out in public and Governor J.B. Pritzker is mandating Illinois residents wear them starting May 1st, we will begin to see them more frequently. However, for some communities, that causes anxiety. The Village of a Thousand Elders is creating a safety initiative called “Tip Your Mask” to help prevent confusion and racial biases.

“Tip Your Mask” is in coordination with various police departments in Illinois. When you go into a store or building, you’re now asked to “tip your mask” by lowering it slightly so the business owner can see your face. After you tip, you should wash your hands or sanitize as soon as you can. Reverend Wonder Harris who founded the Village of A Thousand Elders explains, “if people were to commit a crime, they wouldn’t tip the mask because they’d be caught on camera.” He visited various local businesses in East Moline and said business owners’ agreed that tipping masks would ease their minds to know a customer is just inside to shop, and not commit a crime.

Sure, Reverend Harris, crime comes in all colours. But the overwhelming majority of people in a business aren’t there to commit a crime, and a business isn’t going to ask a white guy or gal to do this.

There are two conflicting stories out in the press:
1. Our intelligence community briefed NATO and Israel back in November about this virus.
2. The PDBs in January briefed the President about the virus.

So — is the first statement credible? That would suggest that the intelligence failed to pass information to the president for over a month. If the first statement is true, why would they not have approached the president at the same time that they reached out to allies? Why would they have waited so long?

Per capita deaths by country:
Belgium, Spain, Italy, UK, and France all have significantly higher death rates than the US. The US is averaging 196 deaths per million people (Belgium is at 665, France at 377, Italy at 467, and Spain at 531).

Portugal is at 99. Canada is at 90. Germany is at 80. Norway is at 39. Iceland is at 29. Israel is at 26. Serbia at 21. Japan is at 3. New Zealand is at 4. Australia is at 4. South Korea is at 5.

The best you can say is that Trump has done a half assed job in the middle of the pack, but by ignoring the warnings from the experts for months, he went from having ability to follow the South Korea/Japan example, and turned us towards the Italy end of the spectrum.

I wonder how much of our rate can be attributed to lack of testing to confirm COVID-19 as a cause? Because as some have reported, there have been spikes in YTD deaths all over that don’t match up quite neatly with reported death tolls from COVID.

LINCOLN — The state has deleted a question about the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine from its TestNebraska online assessment for COVID-19.

The drug was touted by President Donald Trump as a possible treatment for the COVID-19, but more recently has been criticized by health officials as unproven and possibly dangerous.

Taylor Gage, a spokesman for Gov. Pete Ricketts, said Thursday night that the question was removed from the online questionnaire on Saturday. He did not say why the question, which asked whether a person was allergic to hydroxychloroquine, had been removed.

Ricketts had said that the question was included by the Utah companies behind testnebraska.com because, at the time, it was considered a possible treatment.

So members of the administration who prepared the PDB deliberately ignored the warnings from the intelligence community? Isn’t the intelligence community involved in these preparations?

Using a little bit of high school calculus factoring current trends and a bottoming estimate I get a figure of 65,000 additional deaths by Aug 1. This would put the total to 130,000 deaths in the US before the school season begins again.

2. Then we are talking about in my estimation a massive uptick starting in September and full on pandemic by Nov 1. This is a long way from over. By the election we could be looking at 250,000 deaths.

Still, officials threatened to press charges against the owner if he didn’t close. He told KTRK is not happy with the decision.

you can tell Death has a lot of experience dealing with pandemics. he has gloves and a mask. dispatches people with a halberd, so maintains social distancing.

Scythe, not a halberd. Halberds have a spike at the tip and an edged blade on one side of the shaft.

And a scythe is a harvesting tool - which fits the imagery better of what Death is doing.

Death rate in NJ was twice the normal level. All those excess deaths? Covid19. That’s the only factor that differs from prior years.

I’d argue it is the main factor but also a number of unprecedented factors that arise from it. Social isolation, nearly unprecedented unemployment, postponement of all elective medical procedures(this includes things like heart stents)

I am sure that once we tease it out most of the excess deaths will be attributable to covid19, but to say it is the only different factor ignores an awful lot of extraordinary things happening in response to covid19.

One point of order: People have compared the demands for Biden’s personal papers to the Buttery Emails. That was yesterday.

After this morning with Mika, it’s become the speech transcripts: “WHAT’S HE TRYING TO HIDE FROM US?! WHY WOULDN’T HE WANT US TO SEE HIS POLICY PAPERS AND SPEECHES?!”

For those who played the 2016 home game, that shit dropped from the media’s radar the moment Bernie dropped out of the race.

I like Warren, I think she’s a fantastic leader and she has a lot to offer the party.

That said, she needs to stay in the Senate. And it’s not about losing the seat, it’s about the fact that she needs to be what Bernie isn’t: A guiding influence who can nurture and prep the next gen of Senate Dems to take over in a few years. She kicks ass and takes names and that’s something she needs to pass on.

Plus, as much as I hate to say such things, she’s just too old for the job. If we assume Joe keeps his promise and stays a one-term president, she’d be 74 when she ran for the job as his successor in 2024. That would do a disservice to the party when it needs to be promoting younger talent rather than running the same stable of old warhorses every 4 years.

Yup

The threat is almost identical to one Paxton made two weeks ago, in which he warned that voting rights groups that encourage people to apply for absentee ballots to avoid coronavirus could face criminal sanctions.

Texas has among the strictest rules on absentee ballots of any state in the country. By law, voters in Texas may only request a mail ballot if they are over the age of 65, disabled, or absent from their county or confined in lockup during the voting period, but otherwise eligible to vote. Voting rights groups want the state to interpret “disabled” to include those who reasonably fear contracting coronavirus if they vote in a public place — something Paxton is fiercely resisting.

The entire thing was staged for effect and it was pretty obvious from the get-go. Not the one-on-one aspect of it, but the fact that it seemed like every time Mika set up a question, she’d take this shuddering deep breaths and almost sound like she was pleading with him as she’d ask her questions. The question would have nothing at all to do with the allegations themselves and she’d still act as though it was a courtroom drama where she’s asking him graphic questions about the “rape” itself.

They don’t hug or shake hands, they routinely wear masks, their “normal” social distance is greater than ours, and they treat governmental suggestions as having the force of law.

Really, of all the ways Biden could have treated the demands for a “statement,” today was probably about the best way he could have handled it. He avoided the spectacle of the expected presser by setting up the one-on-one with the Morning Joke crew, and then he preempted any theatrics there by releasing a written statement that is clear & concise. So that the end result was Mika looked like she was badgering him by repeating the same questions over and over again and refusing to accept the simple answers he was giving her.

Evening Lizardim from the fantastically beautiful wild north country. New numbers: 4553 new tested, now more than double our previous best effort before this week, up to 74829; 594 new positives, up to 5730 (now 1% of Minnesota’s population is or has been positive according to the official tests); 28 dead, up to 371. All high numbers, but that’s just it: We’re beginning the grim work of catching up to the Grim Reaper. I can’t wait for the day when the number of tested goes up and the number of positives goes down, indicating we’re finally reaching equilibrium with testing the symptomatic and the at-risk.

In other news, I’ve officially started working on Mrs. Fish’s 1979 Lincoln again today, pulling out the old radiator (again) and preparing to drop in a new one… after back-flushing the engine block. I suspect that my previous cleaning efforts merely dislodged stuff that was otherwise not blocking anything and caused it to become blocking. That was one of my favorite moments from the exchange, when Mika tried a different “Why won’t you let us go poking around?” angle to the documents question by asking why he won’t authorize a search of his papers for any mention of Tara Reade’s name. He asked her in response how she expects that to happen, and she ends up being the one who looks blindsided as she’s like “well appoint someone or assemble a committee or something.” She seemed to expect an outright denial and instead got caught basically showing her ignorance of just how monstrous a task it would be to hunt down a needle in a haystack the size of a Saturn V.

Mika didn’t bother to mention that the Violence Against Women Act, which Biden authored in the Senate is up for renewal and is being stonewalled by Senate Republicans.

The head gaskets were my original thought, so I’m going to test everything, including them. If it’s head gaskets, I’m going to need help; it’s plenty open in there, but there’s still SO MUCH STUFF to get off the top, and the exhaust is as rusty as you can imagine. The other thing is that I haven’t yet checked for water in the oil. There was a hint of oil in the water, but as I understand it, if a head gasket blew in this motor, the water pressure is much higher than the oil pressure in the head - all the oil is in the block, with the camshaft and crank.

My supervisor: “Start showing up earlier so your co-worker can clock out on-time/early because we can’t afford people clocking more than their allotted hours.”

Also my supervisor: “Clock in 10 minutes late tonight because you’re almost over your 40 hours this week from clocking in early every night.”

Bonus round: Company policy is any clock-ins later than 6 minutes past the start of shift count as an “unexcused absence” and get counted against your attendance record.

Again, the joys of being counted as “essential.”
