Long, non scientific (of course), but gives you an idea of what is scarily going on. I did not know that it took nearly 30 years to get some of the vaccines we use now, and how many steps are being skipped by trying to aim for 12-18 months. Or how many trials are already under way.

Social media allows the most lazy and mediocre people to insert themselves into important public discourse. They all need to take a fucking seat and let the grownups have the room.

It honestly saddens me. I wrote for my school newspaper in college. I didn’t cover anything groundbreaking but I prided myself on listening to the people I interviewed and being straight forward. The people who dominate political social media journalism are a bunch of hacks who are in love with seeing their name online. More clicks matters more than truth.

Yup, she claimed the real problem with the Nazis was they invaded other nations.

She even got dragged by the wingnut Washington Examiner.

Candace Owens doesn’t understand Hitler’s economy (February 8, 2019)

Yes, between 1933 and 1939, Adolf Hitler presided over massive increases in German/Reich gross domestic products and reductions in unemployment, until my grandfather helped blow it all up a few years later. But those successes say nothing good about Hitler: they were never about making lives better, but always about empowering Nazi ideology.

I note this in light of Turning Point USA communications director Candace Owens’ comments in London on Friday. Specifically, Owens’ bizarre and ignorant statement about Hitler’s “globalism”: “[I]f Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well, okay, fine. The problem is that he wanted, he had dreams outside of Germany. He wanted to globalize. He wanted everybody to be German, everybody to be speaking German, everybody to look a different way.”

Owens’ central problem here is in identifying Hitler’s domestic policies as indicators of a lost better nature. Her implication is that Hitler would have been fine had he simply doubled down on economic greatness, creating jobs, and economic growth to benefit national happiness.

re: #29 Hecuba’s daughter

Tara Reade would have been more credible if she never demanded the release of these records; she could have said that, like most women who have been assaulted, she was afraid to make a report because she knew that powerful men manage to escape punishment and instead wreck the reputation of their accusers. And certainly assaults can be so traumatic that they damage the victim psychologically for life. But given her timing and her changing stories and her prior praise of Putin, it is hard to place any credence in her current version. Seems more like an attempt to make this 2020 version of Hillary’s emails — especially with the eagerness of the MSM to pursue this story. Burisma failed — let’s go on to a new tale to damage Biden.

I’m sure Biden’s surrogates would love to remind the American public who has been a prominent face in Trump’s “ten rated” Covid response and he just happens to have a wife named Ivanka Trump. Funny coincidence isn’t it? Oh and if Trump tries to play the China card on Biden. There are clips of Trump praising Xi. I’ll say this again. Trump lost the narrative. When Trump loses the narrative he’s fucked and it’s why is Presidency is fucked in the general sense of the word. When he lost having HRC as his foil, he lost all of that. It’s why he has had few successful days as President and the few he has had i.e. the tax cut and the judges are thanks to Ryan and McConnell.

I have heard people say that it’s not her. I’m not sure how successful it’s been but there is a photo of Biden with Zoe Baird (Clinton’s initial pick for AG in 93) being pushed around like it’s he and Joe. I don’t think Joe denied Tara worked for him. I dunno. From what I see in social media, I really think the disinformation game in 2020 is slipping. Maybe we’re more more prepared for this now or maybe people are more growing wise to disinformation.

Charles Johnson  May 2, 2020 • 12:13:31pm

The MeToo movement was long overdue and needed to happen. But unfortunately, some people took exactly the wrong lessons from it.

It means that if a woman makes an accusation of rape, she MUST be given the benefit of the doubt. It doesn’t mean that the accusation is automatically, ipso facto, true. Women can lie just like any other human being, and they can take actions intended to do harm, just like any other human being.

MeToo doesn’t mean you shut off your critical thinking faculties. It just means you don’t ignore, you don’t discount, you don’t make excuses, you don’t assume she’s lying. And those things are WHY the movement exists, because it’s been way too common throughout history.

So, her entire set of claims and the narrative Trumpists and Berners have put out there is falling apart under the slightest scrutiny?

Say it isn’t so.

That she’s backing out of the Fox interview is hinky enough, but for another MSNBC to say that they approached her for an interview but she declined shows that she was all about pushing an agenda unrelated to any claims of wrongdoing by Biden.

Had she really had something to her claims, she would be going to any and all media outlets and doing those interviews as a matter of course. The problem is that all her inconsistencies and gaps in her stories would be revealed. Sticking to just Fox would let her push the narrative without being challenged.

For those in the cheap seats who don’t realize that this is part of a misinformation effort by Trumpists to remain in power by any means necessary coupled with dead-end Berners who think that kneecapping Biden puts Bernie in position for the nomination (and who’d end up losing to Trump as Trump slags Bernie with a laundry list of attacks legit or otherwise)

If I had to guess what passes for his thoughts, it’s he thinks that the USA will come up with a vaccine first. Instead of sharing with the world, a putative vaccine could then be used as leverage against other nations for whatever it is he wants.

The correct response from the rest of the 7 billion people in the world should be “well, good luck USA, especially if we get there first.”

Candace Owens got herself a timeout from Twitter for being a conspiracy nut peddling covid19 crap. We can only hope it’s a permaban because all she does is spew crap about everything to her know nothing followers.

Yeah I saw that Free Candece was trending. I see Vlad’s boys are all about it while the rest of us are just trying to go through our day and look forward to seeing Last Dance 5 & 6 tomorrow.

Looking at those photos you get a real sense of their nagging feeling that they got all dressed up to just sit around pointlessly, but they would never admit it.

Repeating history. Someone should tell these people they’re not unique. There were protests against masks during the 1918 epidemic.

Today was the scheduled date for the Kentucky Derby. It’s been rescheduled for September 5.

They were all dressed up and had no place to go, so they grabbed their guns and Bibles and Dixie Swastikas and marched on the capitol in Lexington.

President Obama was right with the line about “clinging to their guns and Bibles.”

Mentally reviewed our cabinets and spice garden. We can do it if we substitute Irish for bourbon and stainless cups for silver.

Yeah I like using Old Bay on things other than crabs as well. Goes good on fries. Really popular Buffalo wing flavor here too given our proximity to Maryland.

I make Chex mix with Old Bay and hot sauce.

For those of us who aren’t these people: Stay home as much as you can. Go to the stores with masks on, and probably while these people are protesting. Get takeout, and probably have it given to you curbside or delivered. And mark your calendars.

Logomachy, n. A war in which the weapons are words and the wounds punctures in the swim-bladder of self-esteem—a kind of contest in which, the vanquished being unconscious of defeat, the victor is denied the reward of success.

The silent protests of nurses and doctors are a powerful image against the backdrop of morans.

I see Kelli Ward’s call for pro-plaguists to dress as healthcare workers to “hide” from people who would out them didn’t take in Kentucky.

Oops. Chris Wallace might have torn her a new one.

She’ll be on Hannity within the next ten days.

For a full hour.

Mark my words

And I will be ecstatic to be wrong, but c’mon. You all know by now how how these folks operate.

She’s the next Juanita Broaddrick/KATHLEEN Wooley.

When I was at Sears, we had just acquired Land’s End - so I took advantage of discounts and odds and ends they had….
I bought a bright orange turtleneck and mated them with bright Pepto-Bismol pink chinos and wore them into work.

Needless to say, that combination was somewhat shocking….
