To me, live sports with full crowds will be the sign we’ve moved past the worst of the Pandemic. Same with live concerts.

Sports with limited/no crowds will be the norm for a while once athletes get back on the field…whenever that is.

Impacts to the fall NFL and College Football seasons are just days away. There’s a lot of money in Football. Be interesting to see how many risks the leagues are willing to take in a few months time.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told the Washington Post that the fired inspector general “wasn’t performing a function in a way that we had tried to get him to” and was “trying to undermine what it was that we were trying to do.”

“IG fired for lack of lackeyness”

Either of those arrangements though will be limited crowds, most teams playing in the same geographical area.

I was talking about a time when all teams are back playing regular schedules from their home venues with regular crowd sizes.

Admittedly it will be interesting to see how local/regional restrictions and lockdowns will fare against a well monied nationwide Football league with a ginormous legal team.

Yeah, same here. All the big summer festivals in Czech Republic have rescheduled for next summer, and in most cases, the artists and bands have agreed to play (including Judas Priest and Nightwish). Iron Maiden has rescheduled all their concerts for next year. Anyone holding tickets for this year’s festivals will be able to use them next year, no questions asked.

I expect states like New York and Pennsylvania with strong leadership will stand up to them (though in NY’s case the league owners would really be dealing with New Jersey.)

My real curiosity with this is what happens if they start training back up in Arizona or Florida (where especially the baseball teams have training facilities), build up some “we’re gonna reopen!” hype and then there is an outbreak in one of the professional teams. Does everything just shut back down with a minor “mea culpa”, or do they try to brazen it through as some kind of anomaly? Though I expect the players’ union would freak out - and they should.

The leagues will have to weigh that against the bad press of 100s or 1000s of fans getting sick from exposures, because that’ll lead to another shut down that is perhaps longer.

After all, we’re seeing outbreaks from Mother’s day and smaller gatherings. Now imagine 20-30k or more in a single venue. It’s a guarantee for further spread.

My house is sorta like this only on the outside. Typical looking late 70’s house, remodeled and updated, nothing fancy. Until you walk into the backyard. 20 x 40 ft pool, 9 ft deep at the deep end and a really huge backyard, over half an acre. No one would ever guess looking at the place from the road. We remodeled the whole house, but no space themed conference rooms or indoor beach, lol. We paid 116K for it 26 yrs ago.

(I know HBO only does it because they make a fuquetonne of money off John Oliver—I mean they bought him a wax figure of President Warren Harding for a comedy bit—but that is the sort of PR that gets a corporation a bunch of good will, probably more than any amount of advertising.)

A bit of good news from Washington state:

A Washington state lawmaker whose actions surrounding an armed standoff with federal agents were dubbed “domestic terrorism” will not seek reelection.

The Spokesman-Review reports that Matt Shea did not file a petition of candidacy for his state House seat on Friday, the last day available for people seeking offices in the 2020 election. Shea, a Republican, is from Spokane Valley.

thenewstribune.com

The article doesn’t say exactly why Shea has decided not to run for re-election. Calls to his office went unanswered.

Fucking depraved assholes. Yet this kind of utter callousness has been fully normalized, at least in conservative America.
That reminds me. I was musing about a design contest for a multiple guillotine, a machine that would dispose of a large number of soul-dead criminals and genocide profiteers in one whack, so to speak. One idea I had was for a very long serrated blade, that is, one with a separate angled section for each “bay.” This would have a lightweight upper structure of beams or welded tubes and multiple upright guides to maintain rigidity. The subjects could be containerized to speed the process up still further, strapped down to a special platform that could be wheeled and clamped into place just after the last one, minus the heads, was being wheeled away. The heads of course would go down a chute and be automatically sorted for re-unification with the relevant carcass. This would then be cleaned up, embalmed and presented in perfect condition to the relatives. We aren’t savages after all.

A better one would be to have a lighter or similar hard object of similar size in your hand as you grab the perps hand by the joint, it will hurt… You do need to learn the locations and pressures to use, and I would strongly recommend training before trying.

They’re on the fainting couches after Obama, at worst, subtweeted Trump with those kind of comments. Meanwhile, Trump is explicitly saying that Biden and Obama are the greatest crooks ever and should be rotting in jail, without ever saying what great crime they supposedly did.

But you know, IOKIYAR.

This is what is keeping Gov. Pritzker up nights, especially now that Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana and Missouri are open or opening. He’s fighting to keep downstate IL in a moderately closed situation, and the Republicans and downstate politicians are fighting back hard. I can sort of see their point, but if the virus gets roaring again, their communities aren’t set up to handle the fire.

My wife just sent an E-mail to the owner of the Website Dark Shadows Everyday.

She offered us up to do snarky write-ups of Episodes 1-210 (before Barnabas Collins appears on the show) to complete his series (as we have all those episodes).

If he agrees, then we’ll have to do something like the Drunk History folks on YouTube.

Frequent Dark Shadows Everyday commenter “PrisonerOfTheNight” is slowly doing his own write-ups of the pre-Barnabas episodes at darkshadowsfromthebeginning.com.

He’s only up to Episode 63 so far, though.

No heads falling into numbered baskets so we can bet on the festivities? And if you were doing multiple at once it could be a head race down a hill, like those marble races, which we could also bet on.

serious Q for debate:

- the president says he’s on HydroC
- why? - to either treat or prevent covid-19 - we don’t know which
- if there was no covid-19 he would’nt be taking HydroC, right?
- so if he dies of a heart attack from the HC, does it count as a Covid-19 death?

seems like a direct cause to me.

1) claiming feminists demanded to “Believe ALL Women”

They’re the same berry (drupe). Black pepper is unripe ones where they are soaked, cleaned, and then dried - the black part is the unripe skin shriveled up and browned from the drying. The white pepper is just the seed. Both contain piperine, if that’s the chemical that is interacting with the tumeric.

He’s lying, for any number of reasons up to and including juicing the drug maker’s stock so he can dump it later, hijacking the media to deflect from Pompeo/Saudi Arabia or the monstrously fucked up COVID-19 response or 2.) his doctor is giving him a placebo, which in that case the doctor needs to lose his medical license for gross malpractice. Either option is still a massively fucked up thing. Now the red hat fascists are going to deplete the supply of hydroxychloroquine and more people are going to die needlessly.

WaPo nails it on the Trump Hyroxycholorquine claim:

This announcement follows a predictable pattern for Trump of escalating a rhetorical point. Trump wants to disparage Bright, so he claims that hydroxychloroquine is safe and effective. To bolster that point, Trump points to unnamed doctors who he asserts have been prescribing the medication. Then, he escalates the point again: in fact, he himself is taking it, and he’s doing just fine. How can you argue with that? Trump is healthy and covid-free, so how can anyone suggest that the drug is dangerous or ineffective? Sure, the argument is of the anti-tiger-rock variety, but you work with what you’ve got.

In the moment, it’s an expedient example to cite and, who knows, perhaps an honest one. But one effect of the claim is almost certain: Trump supporters will view the drug as a harmless way to potentially prevent a dangerous illness. Many, presumably, might then seek it out and take it — hopefully without negative side effects. The case of the couple in Arizona who took a fish-tank cleaning substance that was tangentially related to hydroxychloroquine may, in fact, have been a complicated murder plot. But if the president insists that he’s taking a potentially lifesaving medication without any problems, why wouldn’t others try to do the same?

More broadly, this reinforces a central gap in Trump’s approach to the pandemic. While formally embracing the suggestions of medical experts, he has consistently undermined their advice, from pushing for a rapid scaleback of efforts to contain the virus to ignoring the need to wear a mask in public. This is another example of Trump knowing better than the “experts,” a message that resonated with many of his supporters in 2016 but which is far riskier in the present conditions.

In other words, the best-case scenario to Trump’s admission on Monday is that he is, in fact, taking a risky medication with his doctor’s consent for which he’s not seeing repercussions and which his supporters will not see as a green light for seeking it out themselves. The worst-case? Trump claimed to be taking the medication to make a point, inadvertently triggering a new embrace of the medication among those who take his words at face value — putting lives at risk.

Not only the lives of those taking it, mind you. Trump’s past advocacy of the drug led to a shortage among patients who rely on it to treat other illnesses. What’s more, a legion of Americans taking the drug who believe erroneously that it protects them from contracting covid-19 can be relied upon to take risks in their behavior that increase the possibility that the virus might spread to others.

Fucking. Reckless.

This brings back memories of Peter Bourne who was Jimmy Carter’s White House assistant. Bourne prescribed quaaludes for a staffer using an anonymous name and he was blistered by the media. Bourne was forced out of the White House and his medical license was suspended.

Does anyone think the asskissing DC Press Corpse will do the same to whomever gave Trump those orange M&Ms?

Masks primarily protect others if the wearer is infected, so it may be a good point to argue to persuade MAGAts that they are helping others around them. OTOH, given they are MAGAts, they probably don’t care.

There is no hope for these crazy fucking idiots. I mentioned earlier I was at Home Depot earlier for some home repair stuff and saw two moms of very young children, one an infant and one 1-2 yr old, no masks, to buy a flower pot in once case and a gallon of paint in the other. Where’s the protective instinct for your baby, FFS. People are just selfish and mean, that’s all I can come up with.

Let’s not underestimate the effect of ignorance too. She may not read or see much news since her life may be totally involved in caring for two young children. All the original reports, even from the medical profession, promoted the notion that the disease is hazardous only to the elderly and the infirm, that children and the young are immune to the more serious consequences of this disease.

Question for those of you who are more familiar with Twitter than I am:
Is it possible to link together multiple past tweets or replies to a single thread, or would I have to create a new thread while reposting the contents of those tweets all over again?
Thought I should have a consistent dedicated thread for the “Trump Death Toll” posts and graphics i’ve been posting since April…

They couldn’t force him; he was very old and reasonably well-educated, had nowhere else to go, and it was totally an informed decision. He knew the volcano would kill him, turn him into a Pompeii exhibit, and was okay with that.

The sheriff on Twin Peaks was named after him.
