re: #281 stpaulbear

I bought some masks about a month ago but I’m thinking that they’re a bit too small for my head (I wear an XXXL motorcycle helmet) and kind of whimpy. Does anyone have any recommendations for a guy with a fat head and a beard (that’s going to get trimmed later today)? How much should I expect to pay for a decent mask? I’m looking on Amazon and it seems to be around $20 min for what I need, but it’s hard to judge quality.

I am naturally partial to ours, the elastic bands give them a lot of fit flexibility, but sadly I can’t 100% guarantee for a triple-X melon.

After skimming through several hundred comments on LGF, today I wanted to add just a bit of natural beauty to what amounts to information overload of WTF! Not sure what the bees are doing… Insects like to linger inside this plant for 5, 10, 20 minutes. It is thought the nectar may be intoxicating - which makes the flower comparable to a bar. I have seen several different kinds of bees and other winged and non-winged insects hanging out peacefully.

Chester County, PA COVID-19 stats as of yesterday:*

Confirmed cases: 2136 (+3)
Total tests: 11751 (+18) <—- major indicator this is just presented potential case testing
Deaths: 228 (+0)

The county health site data did not update at all yesterday. And today it finally updated with a total adjustment of the data; the odd “negative death” days fixed, etc. More confirmed cases early, more deaths early, but reductions in increases later on and ending up approximately the same number of deaths and confirmed cases. I guess there was a review done and they fixed things.

With the updated data set the number of deaths has been 0-2 the last nine days. Doubling rate out to 27 days.

Thanks. The masks I have now are around the ear but back of the head might work better for me because I’m wearing glasses and behind-the-ear hearing aids. Every time I take off the current masks, it pulls the hearing aids out of place. As long as the elastic stretches enough for my melon head, they look like they should work fine over the (trimmed) beard.

The weirdest part of Trump’s pseudo rally was not his praise of Henry Ford’s “bloodlines” but his claim that he went to a Ford dealership and couldn’t afford to buy a car there!

He’s supposed to be super rich? Also has he ever even driven a car?

He must know that he would be turned down for a car loan by Ford Credit because of this, uh, habit he has of taking out loans and not paying them back.

I drive a Lincoln. Probably Trump has less money & worse credit than I do.

I’m calling the dealership tomorrow to see if they will extend the lease for the amount of time my car is sitting in the garage while I’m staying home & not driving.

Then they show a password that I quit using a decade ago. I’m thinking that his info breach came from somewhere that I purchased something from a long time ago. Malwarebytes and AVG aren’t turning up anything on my computer, so my first thought is that it’s a bluff to get me to click on something. Covid-19 is more of an endothelial disease than a respiratory disease. It just presents in the lungs most visibly. It attacks the endothelial cells lining the inside of blood vessels. The damage causes a leakage of von Willebrand Factor from the cells which form strands the bind to platelets and form thrombosis.

Your assumptions are exactly on point. They sent you a password they got from a leak that happened years ago, trying to scare you into thinking that they have your most up-to-date information. Don’t believe it. Just delete the emails and, if you’re feeling paranoid, rotate your passwords.

That happened in 2019. That said, afterward the town came to her defence.

Cashion citizens question police tactics after woman tased during arrest (KFOR-TV, Oklahoma City, Aug 15, 2019)

CASHION, Okla. - Tensions were high at a Thursday night Cashion Town Hall meeting after several showed up in support of Debra Hamil, a woman who was arrested after refusing to sign for an $80 traffic ticket.

The meeting even had extra security in case things got out of control.

Several were in attendance to address the Cashion Police Department, saying it needs to be firm but also fair.

There was even an organised group called “Old Ladies Against Tasing” to protest, and armed security because they expected the city council meeting to get out of control (what, do they think it was my city council meetings).

The back end of her truck was smashed in, and she’d received an equipment violation warning six months previously.

The police officer pulled her over to write her an equipment violation ticket, a fine of $80. She refused to sign the ticket, then when the police officer ordered her to step out of the truck, she drove off.

After chasing her down, she was dragged out of the truck, she hit and kicked him to get away, he threatened to shoot her with a taser, she continued (on the ground) to shout invective and say she would not be arrested, he tasered her, she still refused to comply, he tasered her again, then he had to force her arms behind her to put the cuffs on.

Did anyone post this earlier?

While the SATs were given enormous weight when I graduated from high school in 1978, not everyone took them. I didn’t, as junior college didn’t require the SAT. But *surprise* I had to sit the ACT for placement at junior college. I did get 8 hours of biology credit out of it, so it wasn’t all that bad for me, but that 12 (out of 36) I got on the math section must have left people scratching their heads, since I got a 36 out of 36 on the science section.

That said, testing has become this MONSTER over the ensuing decades. It’s not quite to the point of the exit tests given in other countries which can be decisive for where a student can go to college or even their future path, but it’s getting there. I’m kind of glad to see Big Test Inc. taken down a peg or two. Just because I did horrible in math didn’t mean I couldn’t do college work, or, later, go on to law school.

New highs across the board. Reopening doesn’t look like a good idea right now, does it?

We ordered outside pickup from Uchi tonight for our anniversary (26th!), No way we were going into the store, even for a special day at a place we have been weekly patrons for years that is now partially opened.

She Who Must Be Obeyed ran into Naomi, a tattooed, punk line chef with a ferret named Finn at the pickup. She’s dear to us, as are many of the employees at the shop. She’s squeaking by, but only just. I don’t know when we will be comfortable giving them our custom inside the store. Naomi understood.

But she said the umbrella group for the restaurants under their control are doing their best to protect their employees, economically and health-wise. I respect that and look forward to a safe return to business.

See: TEN INDISPUTABLE FACTS ABOUT RAVI ZACHARIAS

I know the guy who runs the RaviWatch website. He’s a San Francisco attorney and banjo aficionado. I also know the woman who was (IMHO) forced into a coercive NDA. She’s asking to be released from it now that Ravi Zacharias is dead.

Zacharias had no problem breaking the NDA when he talked about his “affair” and threatened suicide with Christianity Today. As I told one of his defenders on Twitter, Zacharias and his wife made over $500,000 from Ravi Zacharias International Ministries in 2015 and they could afford a lawyer for harassment. (To say nothing of the likelihood that fancy financial accounting was likely used to have the ministry pay for Zacharias’ attorneys.) Ms. Thompson is nowhere near on the same footing as a ministry that pulled in ~$25 million in 2015.

Twitter has been an absolute SEWER of Evangelicals praising Zacharias for the last couple of days. It doesn’t matter to them that he had an affair (of sorts, enough to want an NDA), it doesn’t matter that he lied about his educational credentials, it doesn’t matter that he lied about being a scholar or lecturing at Oxford and Cambridge. None of that matters. What matters in in their minds is that Zacharias got people “saved.” That is all.

I could go on a long rant, and maybe I shall for the overnighters, but I’m going to hit the drive through for dinner.

To be fair to him regarding both of you, I’m not sure anyone currently aboard AF1 knows how to quote-tweet, and someone may have feared that a reply in Woods’s thread would get no response other than from Woods’s pre-existing followers.

Which just proves he’s an idiot, because MT’ing via the RT button has been a thing for almost a year.

One of the great bands of the sixties, seventies, and eighties. One of the few that integrated medieval influences into popular music. Martin Barre is one of the best rock guitarists ever, and Ian Anderson is a remarkable vocalist.

And oh. by the way, we blew past Texas Memorial Stadium today as the stadium containing the dead and reached Cotton Bowl ( 96,009) levels. We are now at 96,354.

Next up is Bryant-Denny Stadium at the University of Alabama at 101,821. I figure three days.

With the increase we are seeing in States that have “opened up”, I figure we will run out of US stadiums in a week. The last one is at the University of Michigan with a volume of 107,420.

This is horrible. It could have been so much better, if anyone in the Executive gave a fuck about staving this off. They didn’t.

I told her she ought to be thanking God every day for FDR because he managed to deflect a rising workers’ movement with the New Deal. “He saved rich and middle-class people from a revolution which could have ended very badly for them.” On the one hand, I’m glad we had the New Deal, but on the other hand, FDR really did help tamp down a rising workers movement. During the Depression they did have a CP movement that was getting stronger and pushing the Socialist Party to the left and yes many CP and SP members got involved in the CIO unionization struggles with my grandparents. And you’re making a correct point. If Hoover had still been President and defeated FDR things would have gotten really ugly.

But public distancing rules are still in effect, and most businesses on the Oceanfront are still closed, so I’m predicting a Cat 5 clusterfuck by this afternoon as all the tourists bum-rush the beach.

On a related note, while the Oceanfront is opened as of today, every other beach from Norfolk up to the Maryland line remains closed through the weekend. I’m not saying money changed hands here, but I am saying that our city council are a bunch of crooked fucks, so…

If Trump went to any dealership to buy a car, he’d almost certainly have to pay cash as his credit history would make financing pretty much impossible.

And he likely doesn’t have enough cash on hand to buy a new car outright.

So, yeah, only alive from white privilege. Native or black up here in WI would be as dead as anywhere else.
