What triggered that tweet:

“Support for Trump among religious conservatives.”

The actual article at Politico is:

Behind Trump’s demand to reopen churches: Slipping poll numbers and alarm inside his campaign

That is the exact oppositie

re: #346 Backwoods_Sleuth

well, I figured it wouldn’t be good enough, but that was about five seconds worth of Googling, and that was about five seconds more than I planned to spend on looking up stuff about this (there was more stuff but I got better things to waste time on).

Fair enough, as I did no such search. I just cited the article, which came out after the incident, but before they apologised days later after they were called out in the state legislature.

He also issued a non-pology to Republican candidates he endorsed and who appeared with him at the church event, saying he was sorry if he hurt their campaigns.

From the same article you cited:

“If they truly did feel like anything I have said or positions I have hurt their campaigns, I would probably tell them I’m sorry if it did,” Griffin said.

Also:

Some people are concerned Griffin’s words could inspire acts of violence. Griffin said that is not a concern of his.

“I would just hope and pray that would never take place,” he said.

Wanna Schlaff At Old Dead Phyllis Schlafly After You Watch ‘Mrs. America’ Tonight? Watch The Schlaftershow! (Wonkette)

If you are watching the show, our pals over at the Abortion Access Force — Schlaf hated abortions! — are doing a fun exciting aftershow for you, every Friday night after the show airs. A “Schlaftershow,” if you will! And you definitely will, because that is what they are literally calling it. The Abortion Access Force (AAF, or Abortion AF for short) was of course founded by “Daily Show” and Air America Radio co-creator and Wonk pal Lizz Winstead, and this is what she and her pals are doing, according to the super secret press release we obtained by checking our email:

The Schlaftershow is a “Talking Dead-esque” after-show about the Hulu/FX mini-series “Mrs. America,” the story of Phyllis Schlafly, the anti-LGBTQ, anti-abortion anti-ERA crusader.

Hosted by Lizz Winstead (Co-creator of The Daily Show and founder of Abortion Access Force), Moji Alawode-El (Feminist Sleeper Cell Podcast), and Molly Gaebe (Nevertheless She Existed), Phyllis: The Schlaftershow will hilariously recap each “Mrs. America” episode while also spilling the tea on the real life Phyllis, who never missed a day’s work trying to keep other women barefoot and pregnant!

There is a whole bunch of “Joe Biden is a racist” derp on that thread. I’m betting most of it is from white Trump supporters and associated rodent copulators from overseas.

Meanwhile, a place I would give more credence to when discussing issues of racism against African-Americans, because I would prefer what they have to say about it as a white person (sometimes) myself.

We Need to Talk About Joe Biden’s The Breakfast Club Interview (Goes to The Root, more at the link):

This year’s election is going to be tough and it shouldn’t be, but now I’m fully accepting that America is either voting for a Russian-loving, sun-beaten orange Skittle or a soggy white sock with a black stripe and a Southern old white man blaccent.

Let me start this by saying I’m voting for Joe Biden. Full stop.

Let me also add that you should vote for Joe Biden.

Let me also add that if a hat were found in the woods and that hat was running against President Trump, I would have a sign outside my house that read: “Homeless Hat in 2020!”

The nuclear missile is destroyed by an energy beam from Stonehenge as it shuts down. “…Models show that rather than a gradual increase in cases, Harris County is likely to see a surge scenario, in which things will look good for weeks before a steep increase occurs, according to vaccine expert Dr. Peter Hotez, a professor and dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and co-director of the Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Development.

“That’s what worries me. In those flat weeks we’ll get this sense of complacency, and then people are going to start going into the bars,” Hotez told the Houston Chronicle this week. “Forget about one quarter occupancy in the bars. Poison Girl, on Westheimer, is going to be full. And so are all the other places all across Houston.”

And there’s the belief that alcohol can lead to poorer decision-making.

It really is good. It’s long, almost an hour, but never boring. His mind is sharp and he’s clearly put a lot of thought into the issues.

And I actually learned things about how VP candidates are vetted. At least, in a real campaign, not a Trump campaign, where the vetting process consists of determining how willing you are to submit to Trump’s whims.

Here’s what’s freaking me out. Once summer winds down, it’s cold and flu season again. There will be a flu virus happening then, as per usual. And pediatricians are telling us that immunizations are down significantly because of isolation. This has the potential to be very ugly, those other diseases aren’t going anywhere. By then we could be looking at a half a million or more dead, and that second wave is going to be bad. And since inept and corrupt government won’t do it’s job, we could be looking at unfathomable death and destruction.

I know, I’m a fucking ray of sunshine, but I’m in GA and there are a lot of people here who do not give a shit as long as they aren’t inconvenienced. I want to slap people.

On this date in 1968, the USS Scorpion (SSN-558) was lost with all hands in the North Atlantic.

The boat was found in 9,800 feet of water off the Azores. The then-classified SOSUS passive acoustic sound system recorded the sounds of the Scorpion’s destruction, and released on tape to the public before the boat was found.
