Either everything our smartest doctors think is simply wrong, or there are going to be a lot fewer stupid people around in a month. Because they cheerfully spread it to smart people, we plan to stay submerged until our back-to-school voter registration events.

If there is a back-to-school.

FOX News Channel is getting close to what Radio Télévision Libre des Mille Collines did in Rwanda before and during the genocide. Three were sentenced to life imprisonment by the ICJ and a fourth by the Rwandan courts.

They’ve been on the barely-safe side of genocidal incitement for a long time. They should know that hard time is just one of the possibilities. Streicher met the gallows for doing much the same thing.

I’m reading a webcomic called Homestuck, and I thought you might find this from a couple of the pages funny:

First:

You have identified a couple of unwelcome rogues outside your present stronghold. They are in violation of your jurisdiction. Despite your ordinarily striking marksmanship, you have spent your entire ammo clip without recording a single killshot.

What will you do?

Then:

Realize that your weapon is magazine-fed, not clip-fed.

You don’t give a shit about that.

I have to say I’m baffled by people in the Bay Area telling individual Asians (or Hispanics) to go “home.” It’s not like they’re going to suddenly end up with an all White neighborhood or something. If you can’t cope with the diversity, perhaps you should find a more homogeneous area where you can be comfortable, but you aren’t going to be able to remake the communities around here, one family at a time.

Chaski performs Deep Blue by Ian Clarke

This is She Who Must Be Obeyed and her musical partner of thirty-five years playing a 2012 pice that is based on Whale Song. SWMBO is the straightwoman while Adita uses extended techniques on her flute.

It’s just a gorgeous piece of music.

SWMBO recorded her bit in our front media room. Adita did her bit in Lago Vista, up on Lake Travis. It was put together on iMovie.

Enjoy Charles.

I live a couple blocks from a parkway/highway that winds along the Mississippi River in St. Paul. Groups of bikers have been racing on that road in the evenings during the shutdown. There’s an intersection with a stop light near my house, so I’ll hear the whine of all of them taking off at once at full throttle, and then they’ll be back again in 20-30 minutes going the other way. At least they still seem to be stopping for the red light.

52 years old. We don’t seem to be seeing the Trumpite bad craziness from either very young or very old people. It’s my very subjective impression that most of them are between 35 and 55 with very few either younger or older than that. I wonder if it has to do with coming of age during the Reagan era and its immediate aftermath.

If you overlay Excess Energy for Fuckery next to Bad Craziness on the same graph you’ll see that age 35 to 55 is the sweet spot.

So there’s rumors going ‘round that Gov. Northam’s big announcement set for Tuesday is that masks will be mandatory when out in public. In related news, this was Northam today in Va Beach:

The (lame) excuse offered up by his spokesperson after these photos started showing up in the local press?

“The Governor has repeatedly encouraged wearing face coverings inside or when social distancing is impossible,” Northam’s office said. “He was outside today and not expecting to be within six feet of anyone.”

For those who haven’t heard, this is the scene that played out last week at the very same beach when it was still officially closed:

Next week is gonna be an utter shitshow.

Especially if you’re arguing from authority as a doctor. The idea that he had no idea going to VA Beach today would mean encountering crowds that would not wear masks or practice social distancing is ridiculous. And it’s only going to make it that much harder to justify a mandatory order next week if he seemingly feels safe enough to mingle with the crowds and “press the flesh.” “Do as I say, not as I do” is never a good look for a politician.

Weld County, Colorado (pop. 252,825, borders Kimball Co., Nebr. and Laramie Co., Wyo.)

Not fun fact: It has the distinction of having the most tornadoes of any county in the United States.

Weld County will now only report deaths where Covid-19 is listed on the death certificate, and will adjust the number of deaths downward in the coming days. If you guessed Weld County is run by Republican wingnuts, you get a Kewpie doll.

LOL.

I didn’t go to the beach much when I lived at the beach. Occasionally I would go out for a walk along the boardwalk in the evening. I stayed away from packed restaurants and bars and such.

There was once a Klan rally and parade scheduled at the beach while I was stationed at NAS Oceana. The base put out word the whole Virginia Beach Borough was off-limits that day and evening unless you lived there (me and about two other people).

I stayed in my apartment with the door locked.

As I recall, the police rounded up reporters and counter-protestors and locked them in the tennis courts at the south end of the beach, which turned into a shitshow I Amendment case later against the city.

Ah, Virginia Beach: Couldn’t get a tattoo, but you could march in a Klan rally.

Then there’s Rev. Pat Robertson on the other side of the city.

He got a ticket once driving on Atlantic Avenue for not having a license. Somehow the courts fixed it so that didn’t count.

Back when I lived there, the state made a point of putting “military” in big letters on city/county property tax stickers in the windshield of a car if you were from out-of-state and exempt from property tax.

That made it easy for the Va. Beach Police to pick out the military personnel from NAS Oceana, NS Dam Neck, or other bases in the region for personalised harassment.

I still remember the first episode that COPS did here in our fair city, because it was a big thing in the local grapevine about how they’d filmed an episode here. So my family tuned in that night just to see what sort of goobers they’d catch.

First case of the night: Sailor at the oceanfront in his car in a private lot, trying to get himself some nookie away from prying eyes. While VB’s finest were hauling his half-naked ass out of the car with his mistress of the evening, the cameraman made sure to show the DOD sticker on the windshield.

In the town of Patchogue here on Long Island, there is a club called the Dublin Deck. It’s one of the most successful summer clubs on the Island, and they’ve supposedly been operating on a ‘to go only’ basis. But someone posted a video to Reddit on Friday night showing the bar fully open. Nine bartenders and a DJ working. People at the bar, doing shots.

After spending yesterday minimizing what they did and calling the people who posted video ‘snitches,’ the management went on Facebook and issued a non-apology apology.

Nearly 1500 comments fully illustrate why we can’t have nice things and Long Island will probably remain locked down until Fall. We got a whole lot of dumb motherfuckers living out here.

It’s more like acting like the second wave just isn’t happening. “Go about your business” is the message we’re slowly getting, with governors trying to negotiate a way that they can “reopen” while still acting like these give a damn about the virus. “Mandatory masks” seems to be the idea they’re gravitating towards, echoing Trump’s policy of just shoving the whole mess on the public and hoping it plays out positively.

When my mother was pregnant with me, she and my dad lived in an apartment complex in San Pablo, right next to Richmond. Night after night, she told me, the Hells Angels (why yes, THE HELLS ANGELS) would roar through their complex on their way to buzzing the Richmond police station. And then they’d come back. This is why, while I was born in Richmond, my parents took me home to a house in Concord that they’d just purchased, because, well, Hells Angels. If I was a believer in that having some sort of in utero effect, I might say that I was destined to be a hellraiser, but hey, I dunno about that stuff.

Maher’s argument is basically that of the anti-impeachment crowd of this time last year: “If you impeach him, then he’ll feel ‘emboldened because he’ll feel vindicated/acquitted/etc.”

But what was the functional difference at the time? Maher says it’s because Donny feels “safe” to go after IGs, but he was going after his “enemies” before he was impeached. If you don’t think so, then let’s call up Comey and McCabe and ask them if they feel like he was all that constrained before impeachment. Hell, he fired Jeff Sessions before Mueller had even finished his investigation, then brought on not one but two different AGs to fuck with said investigation.

I have a friendly tufted titmouse that is nearly to the point of sitting on my head while I fill the feeders. Their eyes are soo big for their size, they are such darlings!

And my skunkie pair had a mini-pair of their own. Wish I’d gotten to see them, but my “son” shooed them gently towards the woods with the lawn mower.

Hopefully there will be some historical markers beyond 2020 that we knew and wouldn’t stand for a repeat of this totally criminal endeavor. May we be so lucky.

Maybe it’ll convince enough that corrupt people shouldn’t run the senate

That’s the one thing that is happening in corporations is discussions around vacations -lots of folks are waiting to see if things get better and are holding off taking any time off, even though they may have “use it or lose it” policies in place. Those who purchased vacation are asking if they can get their money back (they probably can’t due to IRS regs.)

I suspect you’ll see a whole lot more job losses come July, especially in the finance sector.

I have a very strong suspicion that things are going to be very ugly towards the end of June and into July. Too many idiots are acting on the flu season mentality: “It’s warm, it’s sunny, I’ll be safe so long as I stay away from people who are visibly sick.” Instead of treating people who are wearing masks and maintaining their distance as “smart,” they see them as “paranoid” and rationalize away wearing a mask (“It’s hot and stuffy”) and maintaining distance (“Somebody will cut in front of me in line!”)

After all, it’s no worse than the flu, right? It’s just old folks and the sick who need to stay indoors. They’re young and fit, what’s the worst that could happen?

Donny will go to his grave bearing a grudge towards Sessions for not making the Comey mess “go away.” In his mind, everything that went “wrong” with his presidency traces back to Jeff’s decision to recuse himself. If he hadn’t done that, then Mueller would never have been appointed and there would have been no independent counsel investigation. He’s sure if that hadn’t happened, then he’d be a much more popular president and the midterms would have been the “red tsunami” he promised. And with a huge Repub majority in Congress, he’d have been able to get all those promises he made into law by now.

My indigo buntings are in full bloom, and I had a first for me: a rose-breasted grosbeak at the feeders. They must be ascendant. A friend’s son also had one, his first, at his feeders. We have not had a lot of heat yet (started today, ugh!) this year, so perhaps that is why the bird crop is so good.

We’ve had several pairs move through, I have no idea if they are nesting close by but I think not. We’re reviewing the take from a week’s worth of captures this afternoon. If we spot them again it’s a good sign that they are not just passing through.

Checking back in. Hope I haven’t missed anything particularly nice that happened to a Lizard, or anything disastrous; hope everyone’s well or recuperating.

A week off the news, but it hasn’t changed much. The pandemic rages blithely on, blowing past the next milestone. The covidiots are out in force for the holiday weekend around here, so we shopped on Thursday and plan to hunker till Wednesday or so. Forecast says 100% chance of rain today on the Colorado Front Range, which may send too many tourists towards the Western Slope and into Teleskiguy’s neck of the state in search of better weather. Politics looks like it’s still stuck on the same merry-go-round. And it’s not like my patience quotient has restocked itself.

Oh well. Back to keeping a wary eye on the world, but still trying to get a few more things done in this corner of it. Mithridates, he died old, but I don’t think he was living in plague times.

The world, it was the old world yet,
I was I, my things were wet,
And nothing now remained to do
But begin the game anew.

MN Governor Walz has decided to let churches reopen at 25% capacity instead of 10%. It’s a compromise with churches who were threatening to reopen at full capacity. no doubt some stupid church leaders will probably still ignore the 25% limit.

Walz said the decision to loosen restrictions was difficult because even though worship is essential for many Minnesotans, large gatherings raise a significant risk of spreading the virus.

He’s walking a really fine line where he knows that compromise can cause death, but he doesn’t want open revolt from following the rules.

Well, I am happy to report the two churches closest to my house did not open for services this morning. I have no idea about the rest in the area.

Grocery store run at around 8 this morning wasn’t too awful, I would say 80 percent were wearing masks. Pretty much everyone was social distancing and no one had kids with them. One dude, about 30 something, wore no mask and had a shirt on that made me literally LOL. Beer. Guns. Bacon. Freedom. With the weird blacked out American flag and a III percenter emblem on the sleeve. Woot. Fucking buffoon.

For the first time in months there was hand sanitizer and even a few bottles of 70 percent rubbing alcohol. Supplies of most everything were pretty well in stock, but I noticed new brands of those things that I had never seen before. And who knew that Suave(the shampoo and lotion brand) also made hand sanitizer spray? Never saw that before today ever.

All in all it wasn’t too bad, but the price of chicken and ground beef are way up, well over a dollar a pound. So I am now hunkering down for another 10 days.

One thing atheists aren’t doing is packing churches.

It’s said that the Internet is where religion goes to die, but I never would have thought it was church where religion goes to die.

The Lutheran Church across the street from me chose not to open today. They also did not open for their Wednesday evening service, despite Gov. Ricketts’s new order permitting churches to re-open.

The largest Catholic cathedral in the state has reopened. They have no way to enforce social distancing rules, and it’s in the city with the most cases.

Here in the Panhandle, the allegedly “rational” church, the Unitarian-Universalist church in Scottsbluff opened for regular services. All others are closed.

The extreme right is insisting the lockdown has nothing to do with the virus, and instead is a conspiracy to bring down their orange messiah.

This is exactly right. And it’s why I think Trump is deliberately making things worse. This isn’t just incompetence. It’s malevolence.

I agree. He’s actively trying to screw things up worse because it’s better for him.

By someone smarter than me:

Interesting, lets deconstruct.

1) People grab them from mailboxes. It is a federal crime to tamper with any US mail. Post office sorting is highly automated, few people involved. Post office mail handling has been under surveillance for over 100 years. It’s highly sophisticated.

2) Print thousands of forgeries. A mail in ballot has to match a stub that it’s a legitimate ballot. Much like a lottery ticket. You can’t just print one up and cash in. They are controlled.

3) Forcing people to sign. A large, criminal enterprise would be required. Wouldn’t the forced person immediately contact the authorities and report the crime? How will this forcing take place? Door to door? At gunpoint? Kidnapping loved ones? Delusional.

4) Also forge names. Again, requires the ballot to be stolen from the recipient. How is that done with mail outs taking place over weeks? How do they get the valid signature to do the forgery? How do you fix that fact that the recipient is going to complain never receiving the ballot, voiding the mail in ballot’s validity? A theft and forgery would take at minimum several hours for each ballot stolen. How will that pay off?

It’s also much easier to steal when there’s complete chaos and mistrust among a nation’s citizens.
