From last thread:

Yes, these exactly.

The Democratic House leadership are good enough politicians to know that McConnell and the Senate Republicans would never convict Trump. They also knew that Trump would keep on doing the same or worse stuff whether or not he was impeached.

They wanted to ensure that the voting public knew exactly where the blame lay for all the future Trump fiascos. And that it wasn’t Obama.

In all likelihood, the Democratic House leadership had a general idea on what Trump was going to do. Even though they could not foretell the specifics. But I suspect that nobody had ‘plague’ on their bingo cards.

re: #151 stpaulbear

My $.02 is that the house impeachment of Trump is going to stand up well to the test of time. Given that the senate and the media let him get away with everything, the impeachment is going to be one of the few markers that someone had their eyes open during the second half of his scam ‘presidency’. Hopefully there will be some historical markers beyond 2020 that we knew and wouldn’t stand for a repeat of this totally criminal endeavor. May we be so lucky.

re: #157 Welcome to The Imbleachment (dangerman)

Maybe it’ll convince enough that corrupt people shouldn’t run the senate

I forget who it was, but someone suggested two days ago using the Privacy Badger extension for Firefox to block YouTube adverts.

I installed it. It did not block YouTube adverts, but it breaks about every Website I go to that detects you are blocking trackers or adverts.

I have uninstalled it.

NoScript works fine for blocking trackers, because it sends a dummy identifier back in place of your own. That prevents fouling up sites like the Washington Post.

from this downstairs

By someone smarter than me:

Interesting, lets deconstruct.

1) People grab them from mailboxes. It is a federal crime to tamper with any US mail. Post office sorting is highly automated, few people involved. Post office mail handling has been under surveillance for over 100 years. It’s highly sophisticated.

2) Print thousands of forgeries. A mail in ballot has to match a stub that it’s a legitimate ballot. Much like a lottery ticket. You can’t just print one up and cash in. They are controlled.

3) Forcing people to sign. A large, criminal enterprise would be required. Wouldn’t the forced person immediately contact the authorities and report the crime? How will this forcing take place? Door to door? At gunpoint? Kidnapping loved ones? Delusional.

4) Also forge names. Again, requires the ballot to be stolen from the recipient. How is that done with mail outs taking place over weeks? How do they get the valid signature to do the forgery? How do you fix that fact that the recipient is going to complain never receiving the ballot, voiding the mail in ballot’s validity? A theft and forgery would take at minimum several hours for each ballot stolen. How will that pay off?

i had a bizarre notion / prediction (these days maybe not so bizarre)

- trump knows or will know shortly that he’s likely to lose
- and then he does lose

he immediately announces his candidacy for president 2024

- His age is and will be irrelevant.
- the investigations, lawsuits, indictments, etc will be irrelevant.
- Who the R’s could/should be promoting for 2024 doesn’t matter (to him)
- nor what damage he will do to that person or the party, such that it remains

- he has declared
- so he can continue to fund raise
- and siphon off the money.

The Grift Goes On is way easier to sing than Working For a Living

I experienced the C_L Relief feature for the first time on the previous thread. I shall always remember how well-researched her posts were, always link-laden with references. RIP and Eid al Mubarak. I will also remember she told me that when Muslims face in one direction as they pray, they are each facing all the others. It’s a nice social distancing thought.

True, though, at a quick glance, I am seeing $4.99 for Costco and $23.94 at Amazon for equivalent 2lb packages.

I suspect that Amazon will move to address these profiteers as they have with a number of other such opportunists. Otherwise, just buy it at Costco and sell on fleabay or Amazon…

Mom was so upset she would not leave my side…and yet these antivax asses continue to bullshit about “herd immunity” because they NEVER experienced that!

My mother was *militant* and I do mean MILITANT about vaccines. She had measles in 1946 and her whole family had to be quarantined as a result. She was so weak she was out of school for an entire year. One time one of her adult relatives (not her mother, my grandmother had been institutionalized by that point) caught her talking out a window to a school friend and she got yelled at so loudly and so insistently she never forgot it. The reason was not because she was contagious (she was past that point) but because they were terrified she was recovering so poorly that she’d go blind. Mom was hard of hearing as a result, however.

As a result, we kids got every vaccine that was available to us. However, we did have to suffer through mumps and chicken pox because there were no vaccines for that yet. Every time I hear an anti-vaxxer, I want to ask them if they want to tell their bullshit to my mother. Oh wait, mom’s deaf as a post now, in part due to measles as a child. You’ll have to yell.

And they never, ever complain about mandatory mail balloting in red states.

Here it’s automatic if you’re registered to vote. Everyone gets a ballot.

The purpose is to undermine close states, or undermine democracy itself, as conservatism is always an enemy of democracy.

Anti-vaxxers are quite fine with other people getting sick, injured, or dying. The whole concept is selfishness.

But they’ll be first at the door if they come down with a vaccine-preventable disease.

Anti-vax is a religion as much as conservatism is. No amount of facts can overcome a faith-based position (or, you can’t reason someone out of a position they reasoned themselves into).

Tara Hills, Ottawa mom, changes anti-vaccination stand, but 7 kids still get sick (CBC, April 8, 2015)

It’s like conservatism in another way, in that you can only get an antivaxxer to think about their position when their position affects them personally.

By someone smarter than me:

The United States cannot have all Mail In Ballots. It will be the greatest Rigged Election in history. People grab them from mailboxes, print thousands of forgeries and “force” people to sign. Also, forge names. Some absentee OK, when necessary. Trying to use Covid for this Scam!

Let’s not let them get away with this argle-bargle, shall we? Thr reason the repugs want mail-in ballots no to happen is they provide a paper trail. That makes it much harder, if not impossible, to steal elections.

That’s the only reason they need, all else is distraction.
