I caught a brief bit of Fox on the way to lunch and, according to them, Biden’s VP short list has 15 women on it. I wasn’t close enough to the TV to see who they all were.

Just want to make this clear, again. It was THREE months ago today that Trump made his bullshit claim that cases “would be down to zero very soon”.

And now here we are, 100 000 dead bodies later.

ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND.

And we aren’t even over the hump yet.

I like the way Mark Summer’s put this weeken’s NYT:

On Tuesday morning, the United States officially passed 100,000 deaths from COVID-19.

It’s very easy to complain about The New York Times. Especially so when they’re going to extraordinary pains to avoid pointing out Donald Trump’s lies, or bending logic into pretzels to generate bothsidesism, or when devoting every single column of the front page to the possibility that there might be more unknown Hillary Clinton emails (spoiler: there were not). But every now and then, the Grey Lady remembers that it is The New York Times, dammit. And this weekend was one of those.

That weekend front page, and four interior pages, were devoted to the names and barest bone details of just 1% of those who have died. The website also has a similar honor to those who have fallen. As the introduction heartbreakingly says, “they were us.”

Trump’s managed to build all of 3 miles of new primary wall in 3 years. 1 mile per year.

I walk more in any given day than that. He’s spent billions and it doesn’t protect the nation. It’s a boondoggle and diverts funds meant for infrastructure work at military bases nationwide, including those damaged by hurricanes (and has direct impacts on preparedness going forward). The wall doesn’t improve safety or security, and is easily scaled/cut/ignored entirely by those overstaying their visas.

But it does energize the white nationalist/xenophobic GOP base. That’s all that matters. They don’t care about anything else.

And we aren’t even over the hump yet.

Case in point:

May 3: The past week marked a significant milestone as the Myrtle Beach area starts to emerge from the coronavirus pandemic. Nearly all the hotels and public beach accesses in the Grand Strand are open.

Today: Horry County had the highest amount of newly announced COVID-19 cases last week since the virus was first confirmed in the county in mid-March, health department data shows.

And just wait till the numbers start coming in following the “all skate” Memorial Day Weekend.

Trump claimed to have a great infrastructure plan, and all we’ve gotten is vaporware. Same as always.

Want to jump start the economy? Infrastructure spending would be a good way to go about it. But Trump wont do any of that, and the GOP is even less inclined.

We’re likely to see a long tail instead of a steep dropoff as seen in other countries, which means a higher death toll and overall number of cases.

The lax standards in reopening is a big part of the reason why we’re in this mess, and the politicization of wearing masks too - from Trump on down.

Now we’ve got pundits who don’t get how masks work complaining about Biden’s mask wearing all while Trump ignores the actual health experts by not masking or social distancing at his events for fucking MONTHS.

Which very possibly could have been what he was referring to that she “wouldn’t like”. She could have just accepted his request and it would be done , or he could have called the authorities and they could have fined her. She probably wouldn’t much like a hefty fine.

Looking at his description of the event I wouldn’t say he handled the situation particularly well either. Even reading his version I can see how she would think he intended to harm the dog, why else would he try to coax it away from her.

Then again, it is my opinion that your dog should never be off leash in an open space if it won’t come when you call, right away, every time, for their safety as much as anything. You see your dog running into a dangerous situation you need to be able to stop it on a dime.

THIS. I’ve finally put two and two together on this. Why African Americans aren’t voting for Bernie in primaries:

I need the “progressive” left to stop pretending income equality will solve racism.

No matter what the subject is, Bernie will shift it to income inequality. He is a one-note-tune.

This is something I thought might be the case, but it’s something all the Bernie fans seem to completely ignore or are willfully ignorant of. It needs to be said and much more often.

And we both understood why the zip code I live in has the highest number of COVID-19 cases. We said good bye to each other and to make her point the clerk outside the door had her mask covering her mouth but her nose was not covered.

I went to the grocery store today and the cashier had a mask that barely covered her mouth. It was basically protecting her chin.

‘you’re not going to like it’ is not a threat
certainly not to me

[Embedded content]

“you’re not going to like it” sounds like a pretty explicit threat to me. If it was a child and not a dog, and a man said that, then followed it up by trying to entice the child over to him, the man would be dead, or I would be. Not saying she isn’t entitled, but this guy could definitely have handled this a bit better.

I’ve read (but have no idea if it is true or not) that the best way to escape a bear attack on foot is to run down hill. Apparently, a bear’s front legs are shorter than their hind legs and that makes it difficult for them to move quickly down hill.

Personally, I feel the best way to avoid a bear attack is to not be in places where there are bears.

I know I told this story before when Joe picked up his grand-daughter at U of Penn. Joe pulled up like everybody else, got his parking placard, and checked in with all of the other people picking up their respective family at U of Penn. Even when people recognized him he was just himself. He saw his grand-daughter and hugged her and loaded her stuff into a SUV. He got in and checked his cell and then buckled up and drove off. Of course he did have a Penn Police car following him out of the area but is truly what he is like.

I fucking hate this guy. More in the thread and article.

As he headed into Memorial Day weekend, Donald Trump complained that he was COVID-19’s biggest victim. “He was just in a fucking rage,” said a person who spoke with Trump late last week. “He was saying, ‘This is so unfair to me! Everything was going great. We were cruising to reelection!” Even as the death toll neared 100,000 and unemployment ranks swelled to over 38 million, Trump couldn’t see the pandemic as anything other than something that had happened to him.

Similar to what the PPA has. Do not answer anything on the company’s website. The company will do that. It is also one of many reasons why I do not have a facebook or twitter account.

anything I put on facebook is for friends only. if I get asked in an interview to let them see my facebook page, my answer would be “we don’t know each other well enough for me to friend you yet.”

It’s context appropriate. That, apparently, was not appropriate. I have been to Central Park, but I don’t know it at all, so I don’t know the area or the protocol. You are probably doing it in places that you feel safe letting Teddy run without bothering other people. There’s a little half-mile trail behind our house that is not much used. But every once in a while I come across a guy who walks his dog unleashed. When he sees us he whistles and his dog immediately comes back to him. I imagine that is how you and Teddy are. But, again, ours is a local unregulated trail and not Central Park in a protected zone.

I used to walk my Irish setter off leash. She’d mostly just to the doggie zig zag thing but if she wanted to get pet pets by someone, she’d sit in from of them and look at me for the ok. If the people wanted to pet her, I’d give her the ok. She’d then look at them and get some pets. If I said no she’d wander away. And she always immediately came on command.
