Think this just reflects on the libertarian mentality of IT entrepreneurs. Remember the film “Pirates of Silicon Valley” which predates social media. Most of these guys (and they were primarily male) thought nothing of stealing other’s work or lying to customers or marketing vaporware.

Trump is incapable of distinguishing truth from lies; if he says it, it must be true. But this is a longstanding GOP position.

From an article published during the Bush years:

The aide said that guys like me were ‘in what we call the reality-based community,’ which he defined as people who ‘believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.’ […] ‘That’s not the way the world really works anymore,’ he continued. ‘We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors…and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do

Just great. This Target is not in my neighborhood, but it’s the closest one to where I live. Why?

Unrest spilled into St. Paul’s Midway on Thursday afternoon, as looters rushed the Target store on University Avenue.

Officers responded to the area around 11:30 a.m. and found between 50 and 60 people grabbing merchandise off the shelves without paying, said St. Paul police spokesman Steve Linders. Many dropped the goods and ran when authorities arrived.

A fight broke out in the parking lot between a pedestrian and a driver, who reportedly tried to run down the person with their car. The motorist missed and hit another vehicle. No injuries were reported.

I hope they post a video from Target’s security cameras. I want to see who’s doing this.

Add:

One thing I’ve been wondering about for a long time is why one particular weakness* in Trump and his Administration’s long litany of FAIL hasn’t (at least ACAICT) been more-thoroughly exploited by the Democrats: i.e. his utter lack of credibility.

I realize that a huge segment of the voting public unfortunately lives in one or another media bubble where things like “facts” and “truth” have been disgracefully downsized to mere “matters of opinion”, but I really think that it would be a gross act of campaign mismanagement not to, at least somewhere along the trail, point out that some claim/assertion/”fact” is emanating from a “President” who has made X-thousand false statements in his term in office, and why should we believe him NOW????

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) ripped Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg for saying he didn’t believe social media platforms should be the “arbiters of truth” and fact-check political speech, the Daily Beast reports.

Said Pelsoi: “I think Mark Zuckerberg’s statement was a disgrace.”

And she didn’t spare Twitter: “They’re not taking off any accusations the president is making about Joe Scarborough. They know that’s not true. They do a token thing and think it’s okay. Again, I don’t know if there’s honor among thieves but they only have a business model to make money, not to convey facts. That’s what they’re about.”

I just realized that this store may have been targeted (so to speak) because it is on the light rail line that runs between Mpls and St Paul. There’s also a store in downtown Mpls. I wonder if there have been attempts to invade that store too? The only reason I can think of to target Target stores is that it’s ‘corporate’. They’re not authoritarian…

I do think the criticism of Twitter’s action as ultimately feckless and stupid is right on.

If you fact check one of his tweets and then don’t put warnings on the others, by implication isn’t Twitter saying that information is “okay” and not in dispute?

Either they fact check all of them and put warnings on everything, or delete them, if they’re serious about spreading misinformation.

For those of you who follow unsolved crimes, Jane Doe #6, a victim of the Long Island Serial Killer, has been identified using DNA.

abc7ny.com

The Long Island Serial Killer case really is one of those baffling unsolved cases. It’s almost like a 21st century version of the Whitechapel Murders. And while it’s good to see that the victims are being identified so their families can lay them to rest and get some closure, I can’t help but notice the authorities are still no closer to identifying a suspect.

Trump is incapable of distinguishing truth from lies; if he says it, it must be true. But this is a longstanding GOP position.

The purpose is to wear down the critics. When you’re arguing that a cop didn’t know about that rap sheet or that nothing on it justifies execution or even that a long rap sheet does not indicate a hardened and violent criminal, you’ve taken the spotlight off the actions of the cop and put it on the victim. And once they’ve got you there, they can grind you into powder trying to defend not just the victim but the entire community. Eventually they’ll haul you around to the “both sides are wrong” argument and that’s where most people either give up…or concede the point.

Even if it is, the point that it’s supposed to imply is a horrific one that distills a person’s worth and right to life down to a rap sheet. And that basically means that anyone with a record SHOULD expect to get murdered by cops because they have ceased to see worth in keeping said person alive.

Which might, you know, explain why people feel the need to resist. Because if that’s going to be the way cops are encouraged to operate, with no operative belief that a former crook could be anything more than an even worse present or future crook, and that the only way to deal with them is MAXIMUM FORCE, why shouldn’t they fucking run for their lives?!

Plus if a police department has a record of systematic racial bias and abusive activity then why not call into question the possibility that POCs might turn up with longer rap sheets due to being subjected to multiple false arrests and overwrought charges?

JFC, Lindsey and Mitch are loathsome creatures that (I hope) see some consequences for their abuse of power.

Now that Mitch McConnell’s court-packing plan of talking older right-wing judges into retiring so he can replace them with younger, even righter-wing judges has been blessed by Chief Justice John Roberts, it’s full-steam ahead. …

Our old pal Huckleberry is joining the effort, asking judges in “your mid-60s, late 60s” to step aside. “This is an historic opportunity,” Graham said in an interview with Hugh Hewitt Thursday. “We’ve put over 200 federal judges on the bench. […] If you can get four more years, I mean, it would change the judiciary for several generations. So if you’re a circuit judge in your mid-60s, late 60s, you can take senior status, now would be a good time to do that, if you want to make sure the judiciary is right of center.” These judges wouldn’t have to actually retire, they could stay on the bench with “senior status,” taking a reduced workload but still serving. But when they try to couch it in these kind of arguments, it’s still worth pointing out how abhorrent the argument is even if you charitably remove the racism from the equation. It’s an ugly thing to suggest, and it’s telling how they use it when it’s to justify the death of a black person.

I got arrested in the hallway outside her office as part of a mass protest pleading with her to vote no on Kavanaugh.

May this supine fraud never hold political office again.

And what seems really damning for Sen. Susan Concern-ass, is that she could have easily boosted her standing back home by pulling the “maverick” act, and telling Moscow Mitch she wasn’t going to risk her seat: and have him set her up as a “permitted” “no” vote: Justice Bret Asshole would still get on the Court, and Collins could at least go back and shrug “ what can I do?” In her usual blame-shifting style, and might not have made as many sworn enemies as she did. But no, old McTurtle demanded utter bloc loyalty, and Susan the Spineless voted as told to: I will be shocked if Maine doesn’t flip this year….

At Thursday’s White House briefing, OANN reporter Chanel Rion suggested to White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany that President Donald Trump should welcome a defamation suit from MSNBC host and former congressman Joe Scarborough — so that Trump can depose him and further investigate the conspiracy theory that he murdered staffer Lori Klausutis.

Zuck really opened the door for getting mercilessly mocked on the internet.

From The Shovel (a satire site)

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg - who died of coronavirus in his Californian home today - says it is not Facebook’s role to be the arbiter of truth for everything people post online.

The billionaire tech whiz, who tested positive to COVID-19 last week before being admitted to hospital on Sunday, said Facebook had a very different view to Twitter, which recently started fact-checking President Trump’s tweets.

“In general, private companies probably shouldn’t be in the position of doing that,” Zuckerberg - whose funeral will be held next week - said in an interview with Fox News.

As tributes flowed in from across the world, Zuckerberg - who lists Adolf Hitler amongst his heroes - said people had a right to hear a range of views and that censorship was anti-democratic.

He is survived by his eight children and three wives. Authorities say the incest charges against him will now be dropped.

AOC just voicing something that’s been an open secret for years. Police unions are one of only two unions that Repubs absolutely refuse to ever cross (the other being firefighters). Why? Because society has conned itself into believing that while any idiot can stamp papers or teach kids, cops are a breed apart and thus deserve not only our support but our respect unconditionally. And thus politicians live in fear of being deemed as “pro-crime” or even (*gasp!*) having the endorsement of the local police union go to their opponent.

So long as that reality exists, you’re never going to see meaningful reform. Just a lot of elected folks throwing up their hands and whining that it’s not in their power to do anything.

I’m sure Ms. Keller feels the same about a woman’s access to an abortion. As a privacy issue, I don’t think having one’s temperature taken as a public health measure in a pandemic is equivalent to an abortion. Just pointing out the ongoing hypocrisy of Republicans.

Temperature can help identify if it’s elevated that you could be infectious. The course I took on contact tracing was (if you’ve tested positive) you should stay home until you have no temperature for three days (without any drugs that help reduce fever). 10 days minimum, but longer if you still have a fever.
