Lyrics:
Who it is that you want me to be / I can’t be / I can only do me / I can only go where life takes me
Who it is that you want me to be / I can’t be / I can only do me / I can only be how God made me

There’s only one of me incredibly uniquely designed / I keep my focus up ahead & leave my worries behind
I know that any goal I want to reach starts in my mind / I’m kind of dope ‘cause I’m one of a kind
I like to take my own path, never following the masses / I do my thing, taking risks, taking chances
I see no boundaries, no impasses to living my realized dream keeping music fresh

You do you / & I’ll do me / Together we’ll make harmony
Together we’ll make the world go round round round round
You do you / & I’ll do me / Together we’ll make harmony
Together we may dance differently but it’s all good

I’m easily inspired by the people surrounding me / But still I take pride in my individuality
I might be different from the people in my family / But the truth is their roots keep grounding me
There ain’t no mystery to my mastery / I just let myself act naturally
Whatever I dream may not be easy to achieve but I still believe in equality, so

You do you / & I’ll do me / Together we make harmony
Together we make the world go round round round round
You do you / I’ll do me / Together we make harmony
Together we may dance differently but it’s all good

I love the way you do you, no pretense / Heart open wide, no fear, no defense
You got your own style / You got your own reason / 24/7 rock your own uniqueness
& you got me on my knees, you’re my sweetness / You doing you is the ultimate realness
This me & you thing we got, let’s keep this / Loving you is much deeper than a reflex

Wait a minute lemme STAND UP for my girls / We never gonna quit ‘til we truly rule the world
Popular vote says we should rule the world / So we gonna march until our voices get heard
Who it is that you want me to be, I can’t be / All it is that I’m asking to be is just free
Free to make my choices & raise my voice up / Tell me where my sisters at & make some noise
C’mon & sing it with us! SHE READY!

You do you / I’ll do me / Together we make harmony
Together we make the world go round round round

Yo, There’s only one of me that ever will be / Never lonely by myself so I keep doing me
Never phony, I’m not tripping on how things should be / I just go with the flow carefree
Who it is that you want me to be, I can’t be / Who it is that you’re hoping to see, that ain’t me
We’re just inquisitive kids on the mystic fringe / On a mission to deliver us a happier reality, so

You do you / I’ll do me / Together we’ll make harmony
Together we make the world go round round round
You do you / I’ll do me / Together we make harmony
Together we make love & we’ll make it loud loud loud
You do you / I’ll do me / Together we’ll make harmony
Together we’ll make the world go round round round round round
You do you / & I’ll do me / Together we make harmony
Together we may dance differently but it’s all good
(Don’t it feel good when you do you?)

That’s what we talking about. Be you.

re: #189 Backwoods_Sleuth

and it’s white people (Katie isn’t the only one saying this) asking Obama (the black guy) to fix the problem that the white guys started.

There have been calls for Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, GW Bush, and Barack Obama to appear together to unequivocally denounce the flouting of constitutional norms by the Trump Maladministration.

The idea is to set aside the unspoken rule of former presidents speaking out against each other’s policies or the current president’s policies, to state in no uncertain terms they find this unacceptable.

This is why I’m glad that my team and I are on the same page. Our office is technically open for “people who need to be on-site”, but we have been so remarkably effective as a virtual team (and our working conditions are such that we would be incredibly at risk) that we would rather continue as we are until we are guaranteed to be safe, i.e. a vaccine.

The NFL just might. For that matter, MLB might actually have one, if they can agree on player salaries.

This country feels like such a goddamn shitshow.

And when you get things like that suspicious ‘preliminary report’ or Fucker Failson being…himself…you kind of understand why people feel the need to riot. How the fuck else do you get to be heard, even if it’s just your anger at not only being treated as a lesser person but to have your own pain weaponized against you as reason for why you’re treated like a lesser person?

Just read an interesting book on NYC draft riots back in November, courtesy of Little Free Library on my corner. I returned otherwise I could look up exact title and author

Key takeaway for me was that the riots lasted for nearly a full week and each day the riot featured a different aggrieved group acting out. The only entity in the city that could mollify and apply consequences was Tammany Hall Machine, thrust into an unwanted but desperately needed authority role.

Anybody can say they’re an anarchist and, well…

…under current circumstances I wouldn’t take a white dude’s word on why he’s doing what he’s doing without knowing his background. It’s no longer just cops being agents provocateur, there are all kind of accelerationist reactionary groups that want to make things worse.

I mean, this was true back in the days of WTO protests, all the way through to the inauguration protests.

This is my expectation as well. For example, the guy who vandalized the Minneapolis AutoWorld was carrying an umbrella. Speculation was that it allowed some supporters to overwatch him from a distance. There does seem to be some folks quite willing to be provocateurs and commit ‘dirty tricks’ out there. Some like Roger Stone’s friends in the Proud Boys seem to be somewhat organized.

Afterwards we got on the discussion of the police and the riots. My mom thinks the protests have been somewhat counterproductive, though she does agree that the media probably would have moved onto something else besides the murder had they not occurred. But, even though mom worked at the jail and has defended some actions of cops, they agree that the cops in MN should have been arrested and that the ones shooting even pepper at reporters should have received the same fate.

I think we have learned, this year, the hard way, that jobs that are looked down on or taken for granted may be the most essential we need in our society. So we need to take a deep look at what is essential, and how we pay for it.

re: #90 jaunte

The thing everyone need to get into their heads is Donald Trump was installed to destroy America by the 40% of the American population that believes that they’re the last Real Americans. Sure, trans-national kleptocrats and dictators may pitch in and try and make the situation play out to their benefit…but Donald Trump is the eidolon of reactionary conservatism.

At the bottom of US “conservatism” there’s the notion that they are moral and correct a priori, while everybody that disagrees is evil and wrong. This assumption is so persistent that it overrides the very act of holding consistent beliefs.

For some individuals, this is just lack of self reflection in otherwise normal and moral lives that leads then to make destructive choices at the ballot box, for they assume that anyone that invokes the same symbols and rituals as them must be a good person. But for many…or at least enough that they dictate the direction of conservative culture right now…the only thing that matters is their sense that they are good—even when they are not, by their own criteria—and therefore anyone that questions their authority is depraved. And in terms of the hegemons of current conservatism—well, what they all share in common is a belief in a need for a re-ordering of the nation such that people who question their license to do what they want are, at minimum, franchiseless.

I think, like Val Demmings said yesterday, that we get what we pay for. I think cops and teachers should receive a pretty significant salary, and proper training.

Police in Austin are paid about $3,000 less than teachers ($54,000 ->$57,000).

Then again, teachers don’t kill any of the people they are pledged to serve.

We managed to steepen the curve again.

As more and more businesses have reopened across South Carolina over the last two weeks, inviting people to venture out of isolation and into the public despite the ongoing threat of the coronavirus, health experts also have seen a surge in confirmed infections.

From May 13 to May 26, the percent of positive cases trended upward, changing from 2.7% to a peak of 7.7%.

It was tart. But it didn’t choke me out. Here’s the thing. I know it’s hard being a cop. I know it’s hard. I know that shit’s dangerous. I know it is, ok? But some jobs can’t have bad apples. Some jobs, everybody gotta be good. Like… pilots. You know? American Airlines can’t be like, “Most of our pilots like to land. We just got a few bad apples… that like to crash into mountains. The country is falling apart.

There is no one in charge.

There is no leadership.

There is a vacuum at the top.

There has been a certain level of reserved panic among the populace for the last two months.

The murder of an unarmed man in Minneapolis has lit a match.

The Ghost of a Flea  May 29, 2020 • 10:13:24pm

You know, for years I’ve thought about the way that reactionary anti-authoritarianism talks volubly about fighting the government, but somehow that police and military were deemed not part of government. I guessed this was because reactionaries assumed these forces would be on their side.

Now I think there’s more to it than that.

Reactionaries say law and order and do not mean either word in the normal, dictionary sense. As best I can gloss is law does not refer to what is in the law books enacted by legislation, but the complete set of legal and cultural rules that assert their privileges and deny privileges to people not like them. Order, in turn, is just a social system that conveniences them…and in the process more often than not creates chaos for other, not-like-them people.

So from the these special definitions, in turn, their understanding of police is not that they are public servants held to a standardized code of conduct as they enforce criminal law as legislated and ruled…rather the police exist to enforce their comfort. So when a policeman kills someone extrajudicially, the measure of the injustice is not the rules-as-written about what is and is not misconduct, but whether or not the death hints that reactionaries will be inconvenienced in the same way.

I’m proposing this because it explains both the instances of anti-police opinion by reactionaries and the pro-police opinion. When law enforcement happens to them…or someone like them…then it is tyranny. When extrajudicial violence and injustice happens to people they dislike and refuse to empathize with, it is justice.

And I’d say something similar is present in their, *cough*, “respect” for the military.

In their worldview that centers their subjective sense of comfort, soldiers do not exist to achieve specific in-theater objectives in accordance with a larger strategic plan that services long-term goals in international relations: soldiers exist to kill “bad guys” where “badness” is evaluated only in terms of shallow impressions that center their emotional reactions. And the act of killing is not strategic but hedonistic: it is good the bad guy is dead because it feel good to have someone strange and threatening suffer and die.

This explains why they respond so poorly to traumatized soldiers, because trauma is suggestive that war is something more complicated than gratification through eliminating opponents, and their only interest in war is the gratification; they cannot empathize with a serviceman who empathizes with his opponent. It also explains their indifference to war crimes: since war is not about specific objectives, war is not about morale or hearts-and-minds or weighing the eventually possibility of negotiated settlement…you hurt the bad guys and it is good.

Much to my surprise, there were protests in downtown Phoenix last night and tonight. I would note that it’s past 10 pm and still over 100 degrees.

The protests here are not just being driven by the death of George Floyd.

PHOENIX — Rallies are continuing tonight in downtown Phoenix after a vigil for Dion Johnson, a man shot and killed by DPS earlier this week in Phoenix. Protests are happening across the country tonight for George Floyd, a man that died in police custody in Minneapolis earlier this week as well.

Watch live video from the scene in the player below. Viewer discretion is advised. Strong language can be heard as this is a live event.

Dion Johnson, 28, was shot and killed by a DPS trooper Monday morning near the Loop 101 and Tatum Boulevard.

Police say a DPS trooper was patrolling the area when he saw a vehicle parked on the eastbound gore point, partially blocking traffic.

The trooper observed a man, later identified as Johnson, allegedly passed out in the driver’s seat and when the trooper made contact with him, there was a struggle and the trooper fired his service weapon striking and killing Johnson.

Of course the trooper had no dash cam or badge cam.

[P]ointing a gun at your penis has nothing to do with owning the libs and everything to do with ironically mocking basic safety in gun culture. The trend is about a year old and it was born in the fires of Facebook’s gun groups. On one side are responsible gun owners, on the other is a group of men aiming a deadly weapon at their dicks to prove a point that they can only vaguely explain.

Gun enthusiasts love taking pictures of their guns. It’s common practice. America has a gun culture as robust, diverse, and complicated as comic book fans, fantasy nerds, PC gamers, or any other subculture. Like those communities, gun nerds have their own memetic language and fight among themselves. Unlike pop culture enthusiasts, the hobby of a gun nerd is based on a tool designed to kill. It’s distressing then, to the responsible gun owner, when fringe elements in their community post pictures online of them pointing guns at their dicks…

Like with any other fandom, there’s levels to gun culture. In the online gun community there are “normies” and “fudds.” Normies cover a range of people, anyone from a basic handgun owner to the completely uninitiated. Fudds—as in Bugs Bunny hunter Elmer Fudd—are the old heads, weirdos, and dedicated gun nuts. Some fudds hate normies and the way normies talk about guns. Even the normies who know their way around a firearm.

A chief complaint among fudds is the normie’s devotion to safety, typically manifested as knee-jerk praise of trigger discipline. For the uninitiated, watching trigger discipline refers to the act of keeping your finger off the trigger of a firearm until you’re ready to fire the weapon. It’s a safety basic, along with never pointing a gun at anyone or anything you don’t intend to harm, and always assuming a gun is loaded. Trigger and muzzle discipline will tell you a lot about a person holding a firearm. Typically, if they keep the muzzle away from the camera and their finger off the trigger—even while holding the grip—they know their way around a weapon.

Inevitably, when some idiot posts a picture of themselves with a firearm, another idiot will jump into the comments to praise or chide the idiot for their trigger discipline. Some fudds hate this…

To combat this apparent scourge of responsible gun ownership, some fudds have taken to posting pictures of themselves pointing allegedly loaded weapons at their own dicks, with their finger on the trigger. If this doesn’t make sense to you, you’re not alone. The trend is around a year old, and it’s an issue gun groups—especially those on Facebook—have been dealing with for a while…

All the way back to ancient Sparta: Come back with your shield, or on it.

There is no room in society for the disabled veteran for those who view soldiers as conquering heroes.

This is some part explains why the GOP has long held the VA in such disdain, and have no problem smearing the military service of disabled veterans such as Max Cleland or Tammy Duckworth, or even one of their own such as John McCain.

It is the black-and-white thinking which is the hallmark of theology. Since those veterans did not completely and wholly give themselves over to the conservative catechism, every part of them is to be denigrated. No part of them can be spared as “good” or “right” or “true.”

All Trump did with his attacks on John McCain when he stepped out of line and voted to save the ACA was banish the heretic, and the faithful followed.

One of Omaha’s busiest intersections was shut down Friday evening as thousands of people took to the streets to protest the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd, who was held down by police as he pleaded that he could not breathe. The protest started peacefully but devolved as the night wore on, as police fired tear gas on protesters, and some vandals threw rocks at nearby businesses.

At about 8 p.m., police used tear gas in an attempt to control a crowd that spilled onto Dodge Street. The chaotic scene included chants of, “I can’t breathe,” “We just want peace” and “(Expletive) the police.”

Protest began peaceful, then escalated: Omaha police used tear gas, some protesters broke windows (Omaha World-Herald, more at the link)

This is the problem with white privilege. White people see this and think it’s an anomaly, a bad cop, “one bad apple” , so we can’t understand the anger that comes from this being your reality. Many white people see the arrest and see that as the system working, but black people see it and see that without the video, George Floyd is another black man who died resisting arrest, maybe even seen by witnesses whose statements weren’t believed, because we white people know cops don’t do that.

So the anger, the rage at this happening again and again all your life, we can only distantly connect with, and then only if we open to it. If you’re not, if you want to deny systemic racism, then all these black people are rioting over an anomaly.

Fuckin’ hell:

As unrest spread across dozens of American cities on Friday, the Pentagon took the rare step of ordering the Army to put several active-duty U.S. military police units on the ready to deploy to Minneapolis, where the police killing of George Floyd sparked the widespread protests,” the AP reported.

“Soldiers from Fort Bragg in North Carolina and Fort Drum in New York have been ordered to be ready to deploy within four hours if called, according to three people with direct knowledge of the orders. Soldiers in Fort Carson, in Colorado, and Fort Riley in Kansas have been told to be ready within 24 hours. The people did not want their names used because they were not authorized to discuss the preparations,” the AP explained.

Trump asked for the options.

“The get-ready orders were sent verbally on Friday, after President Donald Trump asked Defense Secretary Mark Esper for military options to help quell the unrest in Minneapolis after protests descended into looting and arson in some parts of the city,” the Associated Press explained.

The trifecta of systemic racism, Trump wanting to burn everything down, and a pandemic, is bad.

It is not, however, unexpected.

Increased global transportation and population growth has long been expected to increase spread of diseases. (And it gets worse with warmer temps.)

What we’re seeing now is the result of ignoring for a couple of decades the problems that have been itching under the surface.

The Trumpers are openly declaring that the protestors be shot (I just reported one of these on twitter.)

Violent ideation is always present in right-wing law-and-justice types. To them, justice is firing on people.

Riots are caused by more than actor. I would not be surprised at all if the usual actors are involved.

Among everything else, my everyday goods that I buy are seeing significant price increases. Eg: amazon.com

I’ve bought that stuff for years. Just two years ago it was under $11 for a canister of that size. Now the asking price is $18.48 .

All over the place (Amazon, my local grocery store) I’m finding price increases right now, this after significant increases in 2019.

This is a silent problem. Probably because all our other problems are more pressing. Still, consumables are where companies are going to try and recoup any losses they experienced recently.

Some good news - Czech scientists have developed a vaccine against the European strain of Lyme Disease that, so far, has shown 100% effectiveness in test mice. Human trials are presumably next on the agenda.

Czech scientists claim to have made a breakthrough in the fight against Lyme disease. Researchers from the Biology Center of the Czech Academy of Science say that a vaccine against Lyme disease has shown 100% effectiveness in tests. The results were published at the beginning of May in NPJ Vaccines, a partner journal of Nature.

There is already a substance that can be used to make a vaccine against Lyme disease, a tick-borne illness caused by bacteria of the genus Borrelia. But the vaccine was developed against a strain of bacteria found only in America. It has not yet been possible to protect against the disease by vaccination in Europe.

Parasitologists from the Biological Center of the Czech Academy of Sciences in České Budějovice have now tested a promising substance whose effectiveness against Borrelia in trials has been 100%.

The vaccine was developed by American pharmaceutical concern Sanofi, and Czech scientists from the Institute of Parasitology of the Biological Center of the Academy of Sciences (BCAV ČR) of the Czech Republic chose it for testing on the European tick Ixodes ricinus.

Traffic backed up as local churches distribute free produce (Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald)

The TL;DR version: Convoy of Hope, a faith-based religious group which helps communities in times of disaster teamed up with local churches from Scottsbluff and Gering to distribute produce.

The giveaway started early because of the large crowd which assembled before the scheduled start.

“Praise the Lord for this,” he said. “What a beautiful day. This is a way to help our community, love on our community, share the love of Jesus with them. It’s amazing.”

The number of volunteers and pastors who participated helped the process, but the number of people who came for a box of fruits and vegetables came even more quickly than organizers anticipated.

I recall driving around with my daughter in our Smart car back when diesel fuel was around €1 per liter. We saw a sign that said “Trier 100 km.” Trier is one of the oldest cities in Germany, founded by the Romans, and the birthplace of Karl Marx. And I had yet to visit the place.

So I thought “100 km, that’s 3.4 liters, €3.50, let’s go!”

I usually just buy what’s on sale. And some selective shopping - I get my yogurt at Tesco (best value for money) fruit, vegetables milk and meat at Albert (freshest produce and least expensive meat and milk prices - their store-brand UHT milk is almost always on sale), cheese at Hruška (a local supermarket chain) and ham, sausages, etc., at a local butcher’s chain, Slezské uzeniny. I sometimes shop at Kaufland, but meat prices at Kaufland are eye-watering.

Hruška, Albert and Slezské uzeniny are all within walking distance of my apartment.

Shopping for us is what’s seasonal. It costs a lot of money to ship out-of-season produce into the middle of the country.

When local produce comes on the market here after harvest (sweet corn, tomatoes, various vegetables) we tend to buy a lot and can them. There are two butcher shops within twenty miles, so they get the bulk of our meat purchases.

Germany benefits from being the hub of the European transit network, nearly everything passes through here on its way to somewhere else. And I have read that Germany has the cheapest grocery prices in Europe after Spain, despite having some of the highest wages.

I cheat and fetch the canned black beans from the discounter, but that is one of my standards here

In the UK police officers are trained in specialist police colleges and training centres like Hendon in London while being paid as cadets. It takes two years from entry to full qualification of a police officer, including six months initial coursework before cadets are allowed to work alongside experienced officers in the field.

It’s normal for police officers to enter the profession from school or sometimes college with a degree and as far as I know there’s no expedited access for military veterans. If nothing else military veterans tend to be older people and the police forces prefer to recruit people in their late teens or early twenties.

I confirmed Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin is also a licensed real estate agent. I obtained his application, which states he’s a Florida resident, and not a Minnesota resident. Tax records show he and his wife own homes in Oakdale, Minnesota and Windermere, Florida.

This is looking more and more like a subplot from some TV crime series…and really indicates that the rot behind this incident goes very deep.

I still want to know more about whether he worked security together with the guy he killed and what that was all about. Because, if true, that seems rather significant to me.

Off-topic: Dinner of champions (pressure-cooked black beans with chili powder, garlic, cumin, tomato sauce, and two ghost peppers).

I have pinto beans cooking overnight in the slow cooker. :)
Just added can of diced tomatoes in to simmer with it for a few hours. (Spiced with cumin, cayenne, bay leaf, salt, garlic, onion, jalapeno peppers, and a touch of bacon grease.)

While I don’t live downtown, I’ve heard from friends who tell me that it’s widely known that the MPD is hot garbage. One of my friends even told me she personally reported Chauvin for assaulting one of her friends so badly she was afraid he would kill her.

Police in Austin are paid about $3,000 less than teachers ($54,000 ->$57,000).

Then again, teachers don’t kill any of the people they are pledged to serve.

I”m sure Austin is more expensive than my little shithole of a town, but 54,000 sounds pretty damned good to me.

And for cops, they constantly see vast sums of illegal money (if they’re at all involved in drug busts) and when you make barely enough to get by it’s too easy to either take some from a bust or get on the take.

Better training and better pay might help. But there is an attraction to the power of being a cop, so better hiring practices and some kind of psychological testing is needed.

If you made it a 1-2 year program training/academy program and did not let them near a gun until at least 1/2 done I wonder if that would winnow out some of those least suited to be police officers by default.

The average teacher pay in Nebraska is $53,000, but it varies widely by length of service, area, &c.

Additionally, certain areas such as Valentine’s school district in Cherry County provide housing for one-room schools in the rural areas of the county. (Cherry County is sparsely populated, so it maintains one-room schools which are only open when there are children living in the area of the school. As an incentive to work for the public school district, the county provides housing attached to the schoolroom and pays utilities in addition to pay.)

Valentine’s school district is always looking for teachers for its one-room schools, but requires significant experience as a teacher first, and a willingness to live in a remote area.

I’m all in on the community policing which used to exist in many areas but is rare now.

Aside from our town marshal, when the county sheriff or a state patrol officer comes into town, they might drive around the village first. After that, they will park their car and walk through the village and talk to people in town.

Community policing regardless of the size of the area patrolled goes a long way to promoting trust in the police department.

Unfortunately many areas have chosen to invest in cars to patrol larger areas and hire fewer police. Cars don’t require pay and don’t complain about poor working conditions.

re: #184 Blind Frog Belly White

…after the last anomaly and the one before that and the one before that..and then you come to realize that this constant string of anomalies…aren’t anomalies

That probably should go up on social media.

The community waited for a proper condemnation and punishment to be handed down by the courts. The riots occurred because of justice denied.

There is a reason for the phrase “no justice, no peace,” and Rodney King’s beating by the police and subsequent acquittal of those accused despite the video evidence is what sparked the protests and riots.

My father-in-law granted me permission conditional on having a Bible study with him every week, which I was fine with. It was uncomfortable, but I knew I could survive it for the length of time required (it was like 1-2 months) and the reward of getting to marry his gorgeous, crazy smart, and ferocious youngest girl. The funny thing is, even after the incident with the speech, I was still the favorite son-in-law.

I don’t twitter (or insta or any of the rest).

If somebody else wants it, feel free.

I put them through hell— a penniless Yankee draftee, college dropout, Catholic. (He had already tried to get me busted for dropping her out of airplanes.) We settled in to 40 years playing Archie and Meathead. Things got cool after the second or third kid.

Wife and I came in at the end of that era. After one tense fried chicken dinner I (Spec4) asked him (Master SGT) for permission to marry. I knew I had to ask, he knew he had to grant it.

My first marriage was fraught with negotiating religious culture with my ex-wife’s family and having a religious marriage in a Presbyterian church which had not seen a marriage at all in many years.

My parents lived together for a year before they got married (early 1950’s). My grandparents never knew that. Never. Even 40 years later, grandma and grandpa still believed that when mom moved to another city to be “near” dad, she lived at the YWCA. It wasn’t until all my grandparents were dead that mom and dad would admit out loud that she just used the Y as a mail drop.

As more places begin to reopen Friday, Jackson County experiences COVID-19 spike

As of Thursday, Jackson County is reporting 260 cases of COVID-19 — and 25% of those cases have been reported in the past week. Of the 65 new cases reported since May 21, two-thirds are tied to an outbreak at a Jackson County church that has been holding in-person services against public health guidance, Hagston said. The cases involve both church members and close contacts that members have in the community.

That’s a county in S Illinois. I live there. The church is a Pentecostal. [def. relating to or denoting any of a number of Christian movements and individuals emphasizing baptism in the Holy Spirit, evidenced by speaking in tongues, prophecy, healing, and exorcism.]

Something that might help you understand what’s going on in this letter is that this guy has latched on to Robert Henderson’s “Courts of Heaven” teachings. The title of the first book “Operating in the Courts of Heaven: Granting God the Legal Rights to Fulfill His Passion and Answer Our Prayers” pretty much gives the gist of what the letter writer is saying he’s doing.

IMHO, Henderson made up this crackpot nonsense to sell books and increase his own fame. And this is what happens…yikes.

No, not the Hapsburgs: (from the 2011 CBS News link)

The link, it appears, is his great-grandmother, Mary of Teck, who was grandmother to Britain’s current ruler, Queen Elizabeth II, and was queen during the reign of King George V. A Wurttemberg princess, Mary - the woman for whom the liner Queen Mary was named - was believed descended from two of Vlad’s sons.

“Two of Vlad’s sons”?? Interesting family…..

ADD: Quick check w/ Wiki shows Mary had a Hungarian grandmother who was descended from 17th-Century “Princes of Transylvania”, though the connection with Vlad Dracula still seems a stretch.

1. Ignoring the Pandemic
2. Telling the protesters they will be shot if they start looting
3. Attempting to regulate or shut down all social media
4. Attempting to mobilize the U.S. Army AGAINST American citizens
5. Threatening that anyone who protests at the White House that they will be shot or mauled by animals…or both.
6. Stating the incident that triggered the unrest was “a terrible insult to police”
7. Suggesting the Secret Service thoroughly enjoys beating up protesters who are exercising their legal rights.

Possible.

Also possible it’s asset protection; if she gets most of the money and property in a quick settlement, George Floyd’s family can’t get at it in a civil suit.

She was also probably terrified of some retribution if she had tried to divorce him earlier. Now that her husband is so high-profile, it makes her relatively safer

A liquor store right next to my usual grocery store got looted last night. I called the grocery store this morning to see if they’re closed and they said they’d be open until 6:00. I’m getting my prescription filled by a Walgreens in a suburb just south of St Paul proper.

I’m going to be keeping an eye out for out-of-state plates and calling the cops if I see anything amiss. Not going to personally confront anybody.

Mrs. Fish and I had an in-game wedding about a month or so before our actual physical wedding. Our favorite priest ministered the ceremony. One of the dimmer bulbs in the group got me killed during the post-ceremony PvP raid. It was glorious.

re: #121 austin_blue

Police in Austin are paid about $3,000 less than teachers ($54,000 ->$57,000).

Then again, teachers don’t kill any of the people they are pledged to serve.

I bet those police get lots of overtime and detail money as well though that teachers don’t.
