The right wing domestic terrorist who drove his car into a crowd of protesters is a self-admitted leader of a local KKK.

The KKK is a domestic terrorist organization. While Trumpists claim antifa is some kind of organization that engages in terrorism (it isn’t an organization, and hasn’t engaged in terrorism), the KKK was predicated on being a terrorist group with a clearly defined heirarchy and structure.

The grand wizard is Trump - he’s the stochastic terrorist who gave all these fuckers the green light to ram people and murder them with intent to silence, intimidate, and affect political outcomes. They are fucking terrorists, and Trump is ultimately responsible for these attacks.

Fuck Trump and Fuck the GOP and Fuck the fucking media that still plays magic balance fairy with all of this.

From the “Reasons for Hope” file:

Overall 38% approve of the way Trump is handling the presidency, while 57% disapprove. That’s his worst approval rating since January 2019, and roughly on par with approval ratings for Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush at this point in their reelection years. Both went on to lose the presidency after one term.

In the race for the White House, among registered voters, Trump stands 14 points behind Biden, who officially secured enough delegates to win the Democratic nomination in CNN’s delegate estimate on Saturday. The 41% who say they back the President is the lowest in CNN’s tracking on this question back to April 2019, and Biden’s 55% support is his highest mark yet.

A reminder that America will do the right thing, once we’ve exhausted all the other options. If Trump really is at 40% that’s Goldwater/McGovern/Mondale territory. For incumbents it’s Hoover and Carter territory.

Hospitalizations all across places like TX, NV, AZ are up. You want no surer sign that covid19 is taking a toll? Look there. You can’t hide ICU utilizations.

Deaths will follow.

The states that took the Trumpist path may try to hide the data, but the hospitalizations and jammed ICUs and deaths will occur, and you can try to misclassify them as FL has done (calling everything pneumonia and not covid19, but then you have a massive spike in pneumonia cases that is unexplained unless you realize that they’re all covid19 cases).

at around 6:40 john oliver makes a subtle and critical observation:

Philosophers and lawyers bicker about what grounds human rights. Do we acknowledge them and use government power to protect against their violation simply because we have a history of doing it? Does a right just pop into existence as soon as a certain number of human beings clamors for getting a law passed in its name?

I have always said no.

No one is ever ‘granted’ extra or new human rights.

What changes is supporting the enforcement of people to exercise rights they always had - and were unable to exercise because they were repressed, (or went unquestioned/unrecognized).

Civil rights weren’t new rights granted to blacks. Those rights were always there. They were actively suppressed by state law ‘enforced’ by police.

Journalists didnt lose their 1st amendment rights last week. They were simply strong-armed by a more powerful force.

Human rights are are intrinsic. Their exercise may be repressed by others.

“…McLaughlin is most famous for his role in a historic upset: the astounding primary 2014 defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor to college professor Dave Brat.

McLaughlin was Cantor’s pollster, and released a poll two weeks before the race indicating Cantor would win by 34 points.

Instead, he lost by 12—a polling flub of titanic proportions. Washington Post reporter Paul Kane noted that tomorrow will be the two-year anniversary of the release of McLaughlin’s now-infamous poll.”

re: #76 Dread Pirate

Let’s be fair here. Primary elections, especially those in off years, are notoriously difficult to predict because so few voters actually come to the polls. If you have reasonable turnout or something close to presidential year turnout, maybe the results would have been as predicted. Pollsters certainly did not expect the AOC victory against Crowley, and pollsters got the Bernie vs Clinton Michigan contest very wrong. If a poll shows a landslide for a candidate, that may significantly depress turnout.

If you kneecap protesters, then they can’t march.

If you shoot ‘em in the eye, they can’t see where they’re going.

This is the kind of insanity we’re seeing the cops engaging in on a daily basis to excuse their overreaction to protests into police brutality and excessive force. They prove the fucking point daily.

At least, thankfully, I didn’t sign up for the Banner-only healthcare plan with my company insurance for this year!

I live in an area that for all practical purposes is ‘out-of-network’ as far as my company-paid plan (with UHC as the administrator) is concerned. If I need any specialty surgery (like joint replacement) I’m looking at a minimum of a 2+ hour drive or 4 hours if I want to hit the largest city in the state with more choices. Heck, even the ambulance company is out-of-network; I had to use a special service that is contracted by the plan administrator and I got almost half my money back.

“Republican voters”? They’ll eat this take up with a spoon: nothing motivates the goobers like being told that the “MSM” is wrong, and biased against them, while Their Dear Leader and his toadies ( and the RWNJ media) are telling them the “real story” - which of course, paints them as the “real winners”….

Sigh…I guess I left the Twin Cities early enough to avoid this kind of crap. I love how the Rosedale police set up speedtraps between I-35E and Rosedale Mall.

I also just found out that a high muckey-muck in the city that I lived in was forced to resign after some subtle-as-a-sledgehammer Facebook posts.

Even more weirder? My old place in MN is back on the market with a batshit insane price increase of $30,000. Never mind that I dropped $10K alone with new flooring and upgraded appliances. But that place is spooked - two neighbors of mine died no more than two years apart - the one dude who died I had seen the day before.

We fucking wasted March, April, and May. Insufficient testing and contact tracing not happening, but Trump got bored. Remember the ONE ‘briefing’ where Trump finally seemed to grasp the depth of the problem? How long did THAT last, a day? Less?

Now he declares it over and we’re all supposed to go back to normal, so he can get reelected and maybe put off ending up in the pokey for another 4 years.

We still don’t have and have NEVER, since the very beginning of this, had a National Testing strategy.

We don’t have a national *count-the-dead* strategy. As Lawhawk pointed out several days ago, Florida has had over 5,000 additional pneumonia deaths versus the running 5 year average since March 1.

As of today (so far) Texas has had 76,762 confirmed cases and 1,862 deaths.

Michigan has had 64,701 cases and 5,912 deaths.

This makes not a lick of sense. Yes, Michigan has Detroit and a few smaller cites with lots of black people, but Texas has 4 of the 11 largest pop centers in the US, Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, San Antonio, and Austin) and almost 3 times Michigan’s population. In addition, Michigan adopted the ACA and Texas didn’t.

He’s a conspiracy nutter but that’s not Q drop material he’s working with.

More like a hash of UFOlogy and MIB conspiracy material.

Conspiracist thought relies on a pretty small number of elements that are re-assembled in different configurations and a common tone of gnostic revelation, so the resemblance between this and Q isn’t coincidental.

You know, I type stuff like that last post as a polite way of trying to redirect people away from the incredibly tiresome, frustrating tropes of generalized “CRAZY PERSON” that are used as means of making shitty behavior pathology, and thus sticking the mentally ill with a harder lot than we already have because now we—because with posttraumatic stress I am a member—have to deal not just with base-rate stigma but also real-life implications of stale tropes.

So the less polite post is:

Stop fucking calling anything you think strange, crazy. Most of the people you want to be crazy are sane but just don’t fucking care about the norms you view as “sane.” The direct consequence of you pulling this shit over and over again is that people who can perform perfunctory “normality” manage to get away with unspeakable shit because some loose rump understanding of pathology can be thrown over their behavior, but people who are harmless but break social norms get hammers dropped on them.

You can science it… water takes 4200 joules per kilogram (call it a litre) to raise its temp by 1 deg C. A cup of water is about 230ml., cold water out of the tap is maybe at 10 deg C depending.

90 deg C to boiling point x 0.23kg x 4200 J = 87000 J. A 900W microwave will take about 95 seconds or so to output that amount of energy, assuming no losses. Since there WILL be losses (We obey the Second Law of Thermodynamics in this here microwave, sonny!) then two minutes seems about right.

I was looking at California’s COVID data page, and what struck me was the extent to which California’s numbers are being driven by LA county. It’s 1/4 of the population of the state, but 1/2 of all infections, all NEW infections and all deaths.

NorCal is doing much better but in the absence of more testing and contact tracing, we’re slowly rising in daily new infections.

Like, Jared Loughner is an example of a schizophrenic whose delusions were exacerabated by InfoWars…but if you look at Loughner’s attempts to articulate his perspective it’s incoherent and shot through with sideways-logic in which tiny things are imbued with complex significance, and the paranoia provokes panic and fear and rage. There’s tins of cat food that make better reading.

You can also look at people who think they’ve been abducted who are deeply affected by something and are trying to good faith articulate what is was. Their stories aren’t completely incoherent, but they’re filled with extraneous detail and sensory elements. After years swimming in the meme-pool of conspiracy they’ll develop some narrative-craft, or will by into a pre-existing sense of “meaning” for their impression-maybe-experience: it’s incentivized both by the subculture seeking common language and by the profit motive.

But when you encounter who says all that shit about black helicopters and abduction and the story is well-polished and all circles around “Yeah, I’m cool special and dangerous because I know this stuff” you’re dealing with a bullshitter of some stripe.

re: #198 garzooma

Politifact disputes this, and they showed their work.

Well, they did and they didn’t. They agreed with the basic numbers. They showed +4,000 additional deaths from pneumonia over the past five years. Florida DoH funding comes from the Fed. County DoH’s funding comes from the State. If they don’t test the dead or the sick, they won’t put COVID on the death certificate as a contributing factor. They fired an employee for “insubordination” when she complained about how they were issuing Death Certificates.

Numbers are numbers. I was always told not to extrapolate beyond the data. Here, we have data. If the numbers are true, the statement is true because someone is fiddling with the data. Politifact needs a new category: Possible, but not enough data is available to determine if true or false.

Probably. But with my limited cabinet space and more limited counter space*, and only wanting one mug of hot water using the microwave is a bit more convenient at times. And while the water is heating and then the mug of tea steeping for 4-5 minutes I can do a few kitchen chores or feed cats.
