This time I arranged “Shape Of My Heart” by STING on two guitars and one harmonica. Meg and I decided to dedicate this video to George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and the long list of victims of senseless violence. These kind of situations go on since too long and they need to stop happening.
Back to the video itself, the guitar laying down is called “Soprano Guitar” and you have seen me using similar instruments in many other videos, but in this case it is a 7 string one.
Meg and I shot maybe 6 versions of this video and we were never fully satisfied, so we kept trying until she had the idea of the hanging light bulbs. Finally, it worked.
The tune is part of my new album “Change of Rules”. If you guys are interested in learning this piece, I invite you to buy the tab on my website or you can join my Patreon where you will find tabs and exclusive video tutorials, as well as behind the scenes videos.

“…For media outlets that view themselves as above taking sides, attempts to provide a sober, “balanced” look at presidential speeches often end up normalizing things that are decidedly not normal,” wrote Vox’s Aaron Rupar in January, detailing the shortcoming of Trump rally coverage. Rather than use the rallies to shine a spotlight on his pathological, lying ways, most of the coverage simply regurgitates Trump’s misinformation and frames it as legitimate news.

CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale last year stressed how out of whack the rally coverage is, in that most of lies and insane Trump comments are just glossed over. “I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve fact-checked a Trump rally where he’s made 15, 20, 25, sometimes even 30 false claims and then I’ll go read the coverage of the rally,” said Dale. “And not only is that not the focus, it’s not even mentioned.”

Here’s the dirty little secret about Trump rally coverage: The events provide media outlets with lots of content—but not much news, and there’s a big difference.”

At the Trump rally, Brian Clothier, 61, is wearing an adult diaper over his pants that reads “Scientists say [farts] spread the virus. I COVID my ass to stop the spread.”

What can you do when 30% of the population idolizes a man who insists that Covid is a hoax, a joke, an overblown threat and something that only shows up when you test for it?

He’s not terrified at all — he is salivating at the possibility of using the National Guard to silence those who oppose him. Putin is providing him with guidance on how to gain total dictatorial powers over a nation. The GOP will stand by and urge him on. There is nothing that would please him more than inflicting his own Tiananmen Square on us to demonstrate his strength and absolute power.

I’m more concerned about memorials for the 1921 white riots being destroyed and current black businesses and neighborhoods being attacked. I know there’s already been some concern by the neighborhoods but I hope that protesters are positioning themselves to protect neighborhoods rather than to be seen and heard by Trump.

Six members of President Trump’s campaign advance team for his Tulsa rally have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a statement from the president’s campaign. “Quarantine procedures” were implemented immediately, the statement added.
The rally comes as new daily coronavirus cases in the United States on Friday exceeded 30,000 for the first time in seven weeks, with states in the South and West continuing to report alarming spikes in new infections.
The country tallied 31,630 new confirmed cases Friday, according to tracking by The Washington Post. The last time new daily cases in the United States topped 30,000 was on May 1, when 33,263 new infections were reported.

Navy upholds firing of aircraft carrier captain who pleaded for help with coronavirus, WaPo

The U.S. Navy has upheld the removal of an aircraft carrier captain whose warnings about a coronavirus outbreak aboard the vessel raised concerns about the military’s vulnerability to the pandemic and deepened a leadership crisis for the Navy.
A two-month internal investigation concluded that the dismissal of Capt. Brett Crozier, who was removed from command in early April after a letter in which he warned of the risk the virus posed to his crew aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt was made public, should not be reversed, Adm. Michael Gilday, the chief of naval operations, told reporters Friday at the Pentagon.
Gilday said the investigation had found Crozier made poor decisions as the number of crew members infected with the virus accelerated, saying the captain would not be eligible for future command but would face no further disciplinary action. Reuters first reported the result of the investigation.

Disgusting.

I did a thing the other day.

Turning Point/”Students for Trump” are having a rally at Dream City Church (fka First Assembly of God Phoenix) on Tuesday. Earlier this week, they had the temerity to post a scripture passage about being salt and light to the world on their Facebook.

I let them have it.

*tartly* It’s hard to be salt and light to the world when you have Donald Trump coming here to address a Turning Point / Students for Trump rally. Way to make it so very, very clear that your brand of religion is aligned with one of the worst presidents we’ve ever had.

P.S. I’ve read your statement. I used to be a lawyer, so I understand the need for such statements, as you have to keep up appearances for your tax exemption. But I’m telling you as a follower of Jesus that this looks awful. You are letting a man who had a crowd of peaceful protesters outside a church teargassed so he could have a pep rally on the steps of that church come to your church to promote himself and his campaign. You all should be repentant and mortified, but you’re not.

Apparently all it takes is one person to express what other people are thinking to get other people to open up and let the church know they’re just wrong about this. It’s not merely that Trump is coming, it’s that the number of people infected with coronavirus is skyrocketing here in Arizona, and this church is going to still hold this rally.

Oh yeah. They’re still having church, too. I’m seriously thinking about protesting the outfit’s 9 am service with two signs:

BLACK LIVES MATTER

and

Something about “WELCOME TO TRUMP’S CORONAPALOOZA” or “WELCOME TO TRUMP TEMPLE.”

If you’re stupid enough to all but endorse Donald Trump by allowing him to speak at your venue at a pep rally during a pandemic, you really do deserve a protest from me. :)

In big reversal, Treasury and SBA agree to disclose details about many small business loan recipients
Announcement came after Mnuchin initially refused to reveal borrower identities, but some data will still remain hidden, WaPo

The U.S. Small Business Administration and Treasury Department announced Friday that they would release a data set showing which businesses received many taxpayer-funded Paycheck Protection Program loans, walking back an earlier stance that all of the business names would remain hidden because the Trump administration considered them proprietary.
The disclosures will include the names of recipients who received loans of more than $150,000 and it will also reveal a dollar range for each loan, such as whether it was between $1 million and $2 million. Precise dollar amounts will not be disclosed, the Trump administration said. Borrowers who obtained loans of less than $150,000 will not have their identities disclosed. The administration said nearly 75 percent of all loans were for $150,000 or more, so most borrowers would be revealed.
The announcement came after several weeks of tense negotiations with congressional leadership, in which members of both parties pressed for some form of disclosure. The plan announced Friday amounts to an attempted compromise in which most loan recipients will be made public while specific details would be obscured.

The last ride I’ve ever ridden on (probably 15 years ago) was the one in this video at the MN state fair. I was riding with a 20-something who wanted to do as many somersaults as possible and I was game for the first couple minutes of the ride and then I suddenly wasn’t enthused about it any more. I managed not to hurl, but I probably turned green too. Damn it was a fun ride though.

Trump administration in standoff with Manhattan U.S. attorney who investigated the president’s associates, by Devlin Barrett, WaPo

Two things I hadn’t seen before:

Lindsay Graham says he will honor the blue slip process, where a home state Senator can block an appointment. Schumer and Gillibrand both are likely to give a thumbs down.

and

Barr says Craig Carpenito, a US atty in NJ, will handle SDNY on a temporary basis. Of course, that’s bypassing the court that appointed Berman in the first place (because Gillibrand had blocked him in the Senate with a blue slip!).

The long and short of the Navy’s conclusions: “Yes, the leadership aboard Roosevelt was left guessing what to do because we were not only were BSing the press about the dangers of CV-19 and lying to them about there being no cases aboard our ships, BUT they should have been able to properly assess the danger of a totally new virus and immediately implement steps that our own civilian leadership was arguing were unnecessary.”

Barr can say whatever he likes, but the district court has the say on who is SDNY ADA until the Senate confirms Clayton (who, last I looked, hasn’t even been formally nominated).

Nestor is Matt Gaetz’s fictive kin. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Many of us have created families from people who we’re not related to by blood. Gaetz, however, misrepresented that relationship to score political points. He used Nestor the same way racists say they have a black friend to convince you they’re not racist. To me, this is not the actions of someone who loves Nestor like a son.

Playbook: Many questions must be asked the morning after President Trump’s administration abruptly tried to oust Geoffrey Berman, the U.S. attorney for the southern district of Manhattan. Here are a few of them:

-How bad must it have been that the administration did this five months before the election?
-How did the President have no one around him that explained how crazy this looks, and how destructive it is?
-Why did they pull this stunt before ensuring Berman would comply?
-How did Attorney General Bill Barr go along with this?

That first paragraph of Barr’s letter is just jaw-dropping. It’s a total 180 from last night’s statement, where he declared that Berman had voluntarily resigned and would work with the DNJ US Atty to ensure a “smooth transition.” He’s now basically saying that he ordered Berman out, that he offered him a bribe in the form of a transfer to somewhere away from SDNY, and (in the most passive aggressive way possible) says he thought Berman understood what was expected.

Also, note how even when the law says Donny has to be the one who fires Berman, Barr finds a way to avoid his boss getting his fingerprints on the murder weapon by saying that “he has done so.” I agree, where’s the fucking paperwork to show this is so?

as we prepare for the next 6 months are there any other members of the president’s current staff that he feels are dumb, incompetent, or otherwise unfit for the job?

Exclude yourself if you like

Remember how Berman got the job?

re: #109 Backwoods_Sleuth

In order to make it legal, Trump has to do the firing.

According to an anonymous former DOJ attorney quoted at TPM, while he can legally fire Berman, he can’t legally replace him:

Even if Trump can ultimately dislodge Berman (under 28 USC 541 he, though not Barr, can likely fire him), he can’t pick the temporary replacement. Until the Senate confirms someone, that choice plainly belongs exclusively to the SDNY judges under 18 USC 846.

Further:

If Trump tries to ignore that and install his own pick anyway he faces two problems he can’t easily overcome. First, there would be a staff revolt. Second, every criminal defendant indicted under the bogus US Attorney would have standing to seek dismissal because the indictment was not authorized or signed by the lawful US Attorney — and those motions would be decided by the same SDNY judges whose authority Trump is trying to usurp.

Something to bear in mind about how badly Barr is handling this: Neither last night’s statement or today’s letter mentions anywhere about why he wants Berman out of the SDNY. If you’re wondering why that’s important, it’s because the lack of a stated reason is not only going to come up if/when Berman forces this to the courts, but it’s also leaving the WH no realistic excuse for why Berman needs to go now and not after the Senate has approved a new appointee. So the only choice on their part is to either flatly deny knowledge or to talk in vague terms that leave the press with nothing to do but speculate.

And now Barr must be scrambling to hit up Trump’s cellphone while all Trump wants to do is roll around in his pre-rally giddiness.

I think there’s a good chance that Trump will get wound up, go off script, and fire Berman from the stage tonight ‘The Apprentice’ style. Then he’ll not know when to STFU and inadvertently half spill the beans about why they’re firing him while mixing in a dozen more lies. Monday senate and house republicans will be saying they didn’t hear it and he didn’t really mean it anyway.

At this point, it’s all about GOTV. Biden can be up in the polls all the way up to Election Day, but if people don’t bother to show up, then those polls can “magically” flip into another EC win for Donny.

Berman had performed some part-time volunteer work for the Trump transition.

He donated to Trump’s campaign.

Trump personally interviewed Berman before he was appointed.

It will be difficult for Trump to now say Berman is “deep state.” Not that he won’t say it anyway.

I’ve been asking myself, what could change in Trump’s favor? Because another 100k people are probably going to die between now and November, and millions will still be out of a job. The virus is going to do what it does, and Trump isn’t even trying to stop it.

The Trump Administration is definitely a target rich environment. Who would ever imagine we would be asking “which crime is the AG trying to cover up? There are so many possibilities!”

It is telling that we do not know which of many possible investigations may have triggered Barr’s ire. There are so many to choose from. AP reports, “The move to oust Berman also comes days after allegations surfaced from former Trump national security adviser John Bolton that the president sought to interfere in an Southern District of New York investigation into the state-owned Turkish bank in an effort to cut deals with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.” There are also the original investigations into campaign finance violations for which Michael Cohen was prosecuted, the alleged insurance and tax irregularities that Cohen alluded to in testimony to Congress, and the investigations into Rudolph W. Giuliani’s nefarious activities in Ukraine. You need a scorecard to keep track of Trump’s legal vulnerabilities.

...any Justice Department official aiding Barr, arguing in court on his behalf or signing briefs in support of firing Berman, should think long and hard about his or her own professional responsibilities and the risk of being engaged in a possible conspiracy to obstruct justice. Every lawyer at DOJ, including every district U.S. attorney, has an obligation to refuse to carry out illegal orders.

So, what time does the Nutterburg Rally start? I think this could be Cheeto’s Chicago ‘68, but with armed goobers rather than disciplined Chicago police. And they really were disciplined. The boss told them to beat the shit out of the hippies, which they did, but they stopped at that. The fatal shooting of 17 year old Dean Johnson occurred before the protests, and was widely regarded as the flash point, but there were no fatalities during the massive police riots that followed several days later. It could be very different in Tulsa.

there would have to be a significant # of people in the polls voting for biden now that would switch to voting for trump for some reason

a better question would be is there a significant amount who are current pro biden who would stay home and not vote for biden if X happened? probably not. there are no more skeletons (better not be). and anything like an attack has nothing to do with biden. so what would X be?

Before you ask “What stops Barr from firing Strauss,” the answer is simple: He’ll be back where he started. Only Trump can fire her, it has to be for a reason that will stand up in court, and the same part of the law that would allow the district court to appoint a replacement for Berman also applies to Strauss. Graham’s remarks today about how he’ll honor the “blue slip” process, there’s no chance whatsoever that he’ll get Clayton through the Senate. And the only person that the WH could put in her slot would be another attorney from the same office, they can’t pull a crony from another state to fill the spot.

I just found out news broke about the sentencing of the right winger who murdered my cousin in Colorado last year. We hadn’t had contact in recent years, but I was incredibly close to his parents when we were young. I don’t really have my own words. The story is nuts. The murderer is an older white MAGA incel who thought my cousin had stolen a woman he was entitled to, so he shot them both. Here’s a news link. Another cousin wrote a powerful statement of his own about his brother on Facebook today, which I’ll put behind a Private. There’s a memorial arts fund link there if anyone’s so inclined too.
Man sentenced in Commerce City double homicide

Last week we saw the court sentence the guy who murdered Raphael to life in prison without parole, and another 48 years on top of that. I’ve struggled with what to say about it, partially because I didn’t want to shift focus from the events of the world last week, and partially because it all felt rather anticlimactic.

9news.com

We had our chance to enter into the record our stories for how this had affected us, and I was able to present to the court the Flickr album I created for the works Raph had left with me when he was moving from Westcliffe to the house where he was killed.

flickr.com

The day before we were allowed to review the scribbled rantings he’d left in a journal, the only real insight we had into his motives (until sentencing). Nothing really unexpected, but references to books in support of Trump, complaints about his sleep being interrupted by Raph and his landlord, clear indications of his deeply unhealthy obsession with her, and embarrassingly detailed discussions of his insecurities about his sexual abilities and his small penis (no, I’m not making that shit up).

After we gave our testimony, the murderer got a chance to offer up a rambling explanation for what he had done; he literally had hand-written a 35-40min testimony that started with his fairly normal childhood, a family insurance business that tanked pretty quickly when he took it over from his father, his divorce from his wife in 1981 (the last time he ever had sex or a relationship with another human, he said). His ex-wife married his father (gross, eh), and his life was one set of failures and meltdowns that eventually lead him to take a room in a house in Henderson, CO rented out to him by one Mary Broad…who eventually also rented a room to Raphael.

He included complaints about his unrequited attraction to Mary, the perception that she was a socialist or communist, the idea that Raphael might have been both a) gay and b) stealing Mary from him, and she was his last chance at a relationship. He felt entitled to her being attracted to him, and thought this left-leaning artist guy was keeping her from wanting him.

He honestly and expressly felt the changing world around him was taking something away from him he was owed, and he didn’t have the courage to off himself, so he killed Mary and Raphael instead.

Imagine sitting in a courtroom listening to the guy who killed your brother more or less rattle off all of the worst elements of a Trump speech about lefties and feminists and socialists and artists and intellectuals taking away something incel old white dudes are somehow entitled to.

It’s never going to make any sense, that someone as talented and promising as Raph can be taken out of this world by such a useless, selfish, stupid person.

So the “overflow crowd” went down the drain??

(where they belong, IMHO, but never mind….)

Also: WTF is in charge at the WH? - If anybody? Somebody thought it would be a good idea for AG Barr to try to ham-fistedly conduct a purge at SDNY - blatantly over their investigations of crooked Admin cronies - on the same weekend Trump was planning to officially “launch” his campaign with the Tulsa Plague-o-rama? Did they think no one would notice?
Or, more importantly, did they really think the SDNY “coup” was just going to casually pass - and/or get handwaved away by King Orangeanus as more “hoaxes”/”witch-hunts”, etc.?

OK, it is just after 6:00 in Tulsa, so presumably, like most “evening” events, the place is likely to slowly fill up over time (any idea when The Orange Blob is supposed to show up and start farting? I’m sure it’s going to be much later than expected - punctuality is for losers).

I mean, this is still a decent enough crowd (and will look even more so after the film editors get through with it) - but RLY? Do the campaign wonks think the media/public will just forget about all the breathless hype about the eleventy-jillion MAGA fans who were supposed to descend on Tulsa in swarms??*

On the plus side the likelihood of a superspreader event is a lot lower than we feared.

It’s all plus side.

He will come out and see 30,000 fans carried on each other’s shoulders. Dude lost it some time ago.

I WANT him to show up. I want him to stare at the empty seats, and the space on the floor, and think about what it says that the ‘overflow’ was so empty that they’re tearing it down BEFORE HE’S EVEN SPEAKING.

I want him seething with resentment at his supporters.

Am I a bad person?

For being such a hyped up event…..a pretty small crowd. Just the lower sections and the floor.

a million tickets…

re: #186 Targetpractice

Something to bear in mind about how badly Barr is handling this: Neither last night’s statement or today’s letter mentions anywhere about why he wants Berman out of the SDNY. If you’re wondering why that’s important, it’s because the lack of a stated reason is not only going to come up if/when Berman forces this to the courts, but it’s also leaving the WH no realistic excuse for why Berman needs to go now and not after the Senate has approved a new appointee. So the only choice on their part is to either flatly deny knowledge or to talk in vague terms that leave the press with nothing to do but speculate.

Though they obviously will speculate that it involves Hillary, Joe Biden, and her emails.

Even when the 76er’s were losing they had more of the old Spectrum filled than that stadium is now.

Barefoot Grin  Jun 20, 2020 • 4:52:15pm

Mixed feelings. I was kinda hoping for a Tulsa hotspot event. But let’s face it, it’s better for everyone if there are no hotspots no matter how foolish and delusional Trump’s supporters are.

The sheer area of empty seating speaks volumes. This was supposed to be HUGE!

I don’t think it’s ALL that Parscale got punked by teens snaking hundreds of tickets. I think it really speaks to 1) How scared people are of the virus, and 2) a lack of enthusiasm on the Right.

Anyhow, I HOPE that’s what it speaks to.

I’m doing great. Mentally, I’m 100%, and not drinking alcohol right now has led to the best sleep I’ve had in forever. I’m able to walk without any balance issues; every now and then I’ll sway to the right. I worked all week, and my body wasn’t ready for that, but it got better every day. I’m not 100%, but I’d say I’m 85-90%. Thanks for asking!

So good to hear!

“my people” (both sides, maternal and paternal) don’t get cancer, but we die of heart attacks/strokes/alcoholism.
If we make it past our late 60s, we’ll get close to100.
So I’m always encouraged hearing when the stroke/aneurysm thing gets beat
