I’m not sure if this is the correct order, but these videos show Stephen Colbert’s complete interview with John Bolton. Let me be perfectly clear, I’m even less of a fan of Bolton after watching this (if that’s possible), but I don’t think he’s lying about any of it.

15-year-old is charged with network hate - tracked by Säpo and Interpol

The National Security Prosecutors Office is prosecuting a 15-year-old boy at Linköping District Court for incitement against ethnic groups.
The 15-year-old has, according to the prosecution, written a number of posts with hatred and anger towards, among other things, Jews and Belarusians on various right-wing extremist forums online, as well as on Youtube. The comments were written during the period 27 November 2019 to 14 March 2020.
In the investigation, the security police took help from Interpol in Washington, USA, when securing evidence against the 15-year-old.
The boy acknowledges that he has written the posts, but claims that they were not seriously meant. The Security Police Department for Violent right-wing extremism, however, is of a different view and believes that the crimes were committed intentionally.

A couple of notes here: Going after 15-year olds for incitement against ethnic groups is rare. Prosecuting party is also out of the ordinary, ordinarily, it’s the Chancellor of Justice (JK) that handles these cases. And that Säpo got help from US Marshals? Indicates that what he did was a crime both in the US and in Sweden…

Punishment is up to 2 years for base offence, up to 4 years for aggravated offence.

Huffpo: sick with covid-19 88 days and counting

It’s time to dispel the myth that the coronavirus is just a bad flu that only kills older individuals who were near death anyway and that everyone else recovers quickly. Neither of those claims is true. Those who do not survive COVID-19 cannot be easily lumped together or dismissed. What’s more, there is a huge swath of people who fall in the middle of these extremes and who are sick from four weeks up to several months.

COVID-19 is nowhere near done with us, and our leaders and neighbors are not necessarily making decisions with your health as their top priority. If they were, we would have widespread free testing, health care support, and contact tracing in every town in the nation. If they were, we would not have people coming to blows or worse over mask-wearing requirements or closed bars and restaurants

Add to that the apparent long lasting, possibly permanent medical damage

none of this was considered when the ninnies in the UK were advocating “herd immunity”, which was just a realization on the Tories’ part that between Brexit and Covid, their economy was going to head into a tailspin.

Senate confirms Trump’s 200th judicial nominee

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump’s 200th judicial nominee was confirmed by the Republican-controlled Senate on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in a presidency that has tilted the federal judiciary in a conservative direction for decades to come.

With the confirmation of Judge Cory Wilson to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Trump has successfully appointed 53 appeals court judges, 143 district court judges, two US Court of International Trade judges and two Supreme Court justices — Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh — according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office.

Trump, with the help of a determined McConnell and Senate GOP majority, has significantly reshaped the judiciary during his first term, and the 200th appointment milestone illustrates how lasting his legacy will be, as federal judges serve lifetime appointments and many of Trump’s picks have been young judges who can serve for many years.

“Judicial confirmations may be President Trump’s most important legacy,” said CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin. “They will shape the nation’s laws on abortion, LGBT rights, voting rights and many other issues long after Trump leaves office.”

I can’t even read the article. Will save for latter.

Most of my Covid symptoms are gone, but I am still short of breath all the time. If it’s not permanent, if my lungs heal, no big deal, but if they don’t? I have no idea, but I think high altitudes and other activities are going to be impossible. The fact is that no one knows. No one knows. What makes it so much worse is that we are doing are best to infect as many as possible. Such a waste. So fucking stupid. At this point in my life, I’m either enraged or depressed. We could have done so much better. FT

And another pair of racists lose their jobs!

Two Baltimore restaurant managers have parted ways with Atlas Restaurant Group after viral video showed a worker asking a Black woman and her child to leave because the boy was in athletic apparel. Only, that rule apparently didn’t apply to a white boy dressed similarly, the video showed.

“I would love for you to be able to come back and eat here,” one of the managers told the mother, later identified as Marcia Grant. He earlier explained that the company has a dress code that allows tennis shoes but not athletic shorts or T-shirts, all of which the white child could be seen wearing.

The White House last week asked Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) to block a bill that punishes China over its encroachments in Hong Kong, Politico reports.

Cramer obliged, blocking unanimous passage of the bill last week — even though he’s a co-sponsor of it.

When confronted, Cramer admitted: “Even for us, this is dysfunctional.

Well, CCJ *has* tried to turn “Stuff that people say about me” into the grounds for a lawsuit, so I guess there is a chance that screencaps of tweets could wind up in some sort of legal pleading?

There are apparently enough wingnut lawyers around who are willing to take such a case up (viz CCJ’s earlier legal shenanigans), but the problem is that there are no legal grounds.

“Anyone can sue anyone at any time for anything. It’s just whether or not there are any grounds to make that suit hold up in court.”

If their stupidity only hurt THEM I could not care less, but this is different.

Among many other things, having a functioning government is essential to provide a competent response to a public health emergency. Letting people make it up as they go along is not an option.

So what we’re seeing here with covid19 is that Republicans are incapable of responding effectively because competent emergency response (i.e., government 101) is simply incompatible with their overall anti-government ideology.

The only proper function of government, according to Republicans, is to funnel money to its bosses and to the well-connected, assuming they are all Republicans.

This is on Republicans more than on Trump. Trump is adding his own special brand of criminality and blatant incompetence to the covid19 response, but IMO any other Republican administration would have fucked up the response roughly as badly as Trump has done.

There is no US left that is analogous to the US hard right. So if Democrats in safe D seats start having to worry about getting primaried from their left, that would usually be a good thing.

I mostly enjoyed the Colbert interview, but… I’m disappointed he didn’t ask any questions about Bolton reorganizing the NSC in a way that closed the Pandemic Office.

Going off of memory here, but when Colbert had then-candidate Cheetolini on his show, he started needling Trump about the birther horseshit. Trump was smiling politely, but was clearly uncomfortable and said he doesn’t talk about it anymore.

And, then for God know what reason, Colbert dropped it.

I’m a fan of Colbert and what not, but for all of the righteous anger he’s been displaying for the last 3.5 years, I will never understand why the fuck he let up on that racist piece of shit on that subject.

I used to give Colbert a pass and say “Well, it’s not fair to expect a comedian to act like a journalist”, but then I started watching John Oliver.

You know Oliver would have never let that shit slide until he got either an apology or forced Trump to storm off.

Hmm. I still remember the Philadelphia Flyers opening their games with Kate Smith singing G-d Bless America.

What’s funny also is that Ed Snider, the Flyers’ owner, was a hard core conservative. He’s the guy who had Sarah Palin drop the puck at a Flyers home game during the 2008 campaign. Yet he had no problem substituting out the Star Spangled Banner for something else.

Josh from NC voted for Trump in 2016. This November will be his first time ever voting Democrat.

“If Joe Biden drops out and the DNC runs a tomato can, I will vote for the tomato can because I believe the tomato can will do less harm than our current president.”

I know I should be happy about people like this, but I still can’t get past the fact they voted for Trump in the first place.

Part of me is like as soon as the GOP runs a candidate who’s every bit the monster that Trump is, but displays none of the drooling insanity, all of these ‘conscientious, normal’ conservatives; excuse me, ‘independents’, will go flocking back to the GOP in a fucking second.

Old 97’s - Turn Off The TV (Official Video)

They’re running a marathon of “Kids in the Hall”
Ghost light dancing across the posters on the wall
Doolittle – Pixies and The Slider – T. Rex
I can tell that we’ll get along well and I wonder what’s next

Turn off the TV, let’s go back to my room
I’ve got a window with a hell of a view
And there’s a full moon sitting on the church next door
Sleeping bag on a hardwood floor
Turn off the TV, let’s go back to my room

Never thought that a girl like you would pay me no mind
But here we are in a hotbox having a hell of a time
Jim Beam and brick weed and a futon couch
And playful smile pulling on the corner of your mouth

Turn off the TV, let’s go back to my room
I’ve got a window with a hell of a view
And there’s a full moon sitting on the church next door
Sleeping bag on a hardwood floor
Turn off the TV, let’s go back to my room

Trump’s 2016 campaign was basically “what do you have to lose?” After almost 4 years, we have all seen what we had to lose. Which is why it is looking more and more like Biden is going to trounce Trump come November.

I will remain cautiously optimistic about the Never Trump types, that they will continue to scorn the likes of McConnell and Cruz and Rubio and Cotton and Jordan and Gohmert. But we will have to wait and see what happens in 2022 and 2024.

What the heck is this (Avaaz petition)?

Israel is set to annex much of Palestine in 7 days, violating international law and ending the possibility of a Palestinian state and freedom. Europe and others can make Israel think twice, and we cannot let this pass without outcry.

In 7 days, Israel’s Prime Minister is set to expand Israel into much of Palestine.

Palestine is recognised by the United Nations. But Israel’s government is simply taking it over, in violation of international law.

Virtually everyone opposes this, but the question is whether anyone will do anything about it. Europe and others have the power to make Israel think twice, but they need to hear a massive demand for action from citizens first.

Israel is leaving bits of land to be somewhat self-governed by Palestinians, but will besiege them with walls, colonies and military towers. Israel may advance its annexation in stages to decrease international alarm, but the remainder of Palestine already looks like swiss cheese; an impossible state to live in, function, and govern.

Palestinians are effectively being corralled into pockets of land — like large open-air prisons, under the tight control of Israel. Many call it Apartheid and it might also be called ethnic concentration. As Israel’s largest trade partner, the EU can make clear that annexation and human rights violations in Palestine will lead to sanctions.

Independents are an extinct animal; with few exceptions, most voters are aligned with one of the two parties and many will not consider voting for a presidential candidate of the other party. In 2016, the typical voter followed that policy. Thanks to the malfeasance of our MSM, most voters, who are casual consumers of politics, were unaware of how dreadful Trump was; they thought of him as a successful billionaire and nothing in the news media or broadcast media suggested that was an illusion. This voter was a diehard Republican — getting him to vote for Biden is the first step. It might not stick for future elections, but at least our country will have a chance at survival if a sufficient number of GOP voters follow this example.
