Most recent flag update took place back in 1959, when Hawaii was officially proclaimed the 50th state…As soon as the new flag was announced, the U.S. government probably started making contingency plans for a 51-star flag, according to Repke.

“The cost to make a new flag is no different than the cost of making the current flag,” Repke explained. “We do our star fields by giant embroidery machines that run off software, so we would just have to make some software change … that’s like uploading a digital file. There is no real expense in that.”

Trump campaign manager in ‘quasi-quarantine’ after outbreak of COVID at Tulsa rally: report

Donald Trump’s campaign manager is “working remotely” after the outbreak of coronavirus among staff who worked at the president’s controversial rally in Tulsa.

“Donald Trump’s reelection campaign manager, Brad Parscale, is one of a group of campaign staffers in quasi-quarantine after he attended a rally in Oklahoma last weekend where eight campaign aides tested positive for the novel coronavirus,” The Daily Beast reported Thursday.

re: #19 The Pie Overlord!

The Q aficionados as well as the broader Trump acolytes (excluding billionaires who only care about despoiling the environment and more tax cuts) have been salivating for the long promised arrests of Obama, Hillary, Comey, et al and their trials. Even Tucker realizes that’s not about to happen but the base may be getting restless and antifa may be a good substitute. Unfortunately for Tucker’s proposals, this is still the United States —and good luck getting a major trial going in less than a year from the alleged crimes. Using the Chicago 7 trial as a model, the grand jury met for 6 months and then the trial began 6 months after that. Not even Barr can violate those American legal traditions.

Sure you do. He served nearly four years in prison after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy, fraud and tax charges in 2006.

And then he got out, wrote a book and then went on a book tour, and then lived happily ever after. screwed up again.

He’s pled guilty to “conspiracy to commit wire fraud and lobbying disclosure violations,” and that can cost him 5 more years in prison.

That’s why I give Trump a break for wrong words and any physical problems. We all make mistakes and sometimes have difficulties in pronunciation. My late husband, who was brilliant, was afflicted with aphasia that made it impossible for him to spell or use correct grammar. It is Trump’s lifelong racism, misogyny, narcissism, cruelty, financial criminality, support of dictators, contempt of democracy, and betrayal of his oath of office that are the problems — and not that he had problems maneuvering a ramp, drinking water, or reading a teleprompter.

For those who are critical about Nancy’s statement that she’s not about to impeach Barr, I think it comes down to having no time to get this done before the election, especially when there are other critical issues such as more aid to states and communities for fighting COVID-19 and trying to get election security or VBM in time for the 2020 election. She knows that the Senate will never vote to convict Barr; it’s more critical to get Democrats elected in November than a futile attempt to evict Barr now. Perhaps if there were some way to disbar him — but my guess is that disbarment proceedings will take longer than the time he has left if we can get Biden elected. It’s equally important that we get a Democratic Senate.

Maybe Anymouse, as our resident Flag Maven, can tell us yea or nay, but ISTR the US Flag Code (or some rule) stipulates that the placement of stars in the canton has to be a “regular” pattern, I.e. in lines (unlike the 52-51-star “buzzsaw” there). I know that there have already been linear arrangements devised for both 51 and 52-star flags, so no problem (and just because it’s almost always appropriate, fuck Tom Cotton), but I was unsure if it’s mandated.

I’m pretty sure Pacific Islanders do not feel the same way about their homes. The borders of a state may not be changed, it is barred by the Constitution.

The only way a state’s border can be legally changed is if the state legislatures (or in this case and territorial legislatures) vote to change them, and Congress accepts that change.

I KNOW Pacific Islanders don’t feel the same way. And they’ll let you know. Emphatically.

re: #94 Jay C

Maybe Anymouse, as our resident Flag Maven, can tell us yea or nay, but ISTR the US Flag Code (or some rule) stipulates that the placement of stars in the canton has to be a “regular” pattern, I.e. in lines (unlike the 52-51-star “buzzsaw” there). I know that there have already been linear arrangements devised for both 51 and 52-star flags, so no problem (and just because it’s almost always appropriate, fuck Tom Cotton), but I was unsure if it’s mandated.

The US Flag Code as originally passed reads:

The flag of the United States shall be thirteen horizontal stripes, alternate red and white; and the union of the flag shall be forty-eight stars, white in a blue field.

Section Two reads:

On the admission of a new State into the Union one star shall be added to the union of the flag; and such addition shall take effect on the fourth day of July then next succeeding such admission.

It does not state how the stars should be arranged.

Thanks.

So the “buzzsaw” arrangement would be OK? Cool by me, though I think for simplicity/continuity’s sake, they would be more likely to adopt the 8- and 9-star lines plan (easier to draw, anyway!).

How about a scattershot arrangement? /s

I missed this is the WashPo death count of 2480.

Note: The spike in deaths on June 25 is due to New Jersey authorities adding more than 1,800 probable deaths to the state’s totals.

39,000 new cases so we are setting records.

Mike Skinner’s son said Bubba Wallace should’ve been dragged ‘around the pits’ with noose (The Sporting News)

Dustin Skinner, the son of former NASCAR star Mike Skinner, has apologized for a troubling post on social media after a noose was found in Bubba Wallace’s garage Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway.

The post said, in part, “Frankly I wish they would’ve tied [the noose] to [Wallace] and drug him around the pits because he has single handedly destroyed what I grew up watching and cared about for 30 years now.” It appears to be a Facebook comment, and the words have been condemned by the Skinner family.

Dustin Skinner competed in exactly one truck series race. His family immediately condemned the statement, after which he claimed “it was not about race.”

OK, someone posted on the previous thread about Jenna Marbles. I’m one of her subscribers. I started watching a few years ago when one of her dogs (Kermit, immortalized forever as Cermet) took a shine to soap, in particular, Irish Spring. They (Jenna and her partner Julian) were making Kermit a bed out of Irish Spring.

Yeah, back in 2011 and 2012, she did THREE VIDEOS that she made private years ago and for which she apologized today. Yes, one was in blackface, one used Chinese stereotypes and the third was slut shaming. She apologized for every single one, which is more than what most people do.

A Message

Before you believe a gossip monger like Perez Hilton maybe watch what Jenna has to say? She’s a decent person, IMHO, and not a stone racist/sexist like PH is making her out to be.

/sorry not sorry for the rant. I liked watching her dog antics.

I used to really like Jon Stewart’s thing. That thing he does. But lately he’s just irritating the fuck out of me. Is it me? It’s me, isn’t it.

Nah, I don’t think it is. I have a memory of Stewart on Charlie Rose’s show the day after the election, basically copping a condescending “Well, America, this is what you get for not nominating our Lord and Savior Bernie at the DNC” attitude.

And fuck the Rally for Sanity for ending with a giant prayer to the Magic Balance Fairy.

So they take away insurance from millions months before an election. How does this help them? If they win in court it will give more votes to Biden. Don’t know if they are more stupid than evil.

That was me.

Only three? And she made them private? Well that fixes it. Plus her blackface video was instantly mirrored across the site. All it takes is a search to find it on many channels.

She has over twenty million subscribers. She has as many viewers as one of FOX’s talking heads.

No one made her make racist videos (only three though) and no one made her leave YouTube (we’ll see if she actually leaves, she didn’t delete her channel).

No. The ruling is likely not to be before June 2021. So voters won’t realize that Trump is working overtime to deprive them of coverage until well after the election. For now,
while the pandemic is raging, they will not lose their coverage.

Question to lawyers out there: if (God willing) Biden is elected president, can the new administration rescind the briefs filed by Barr’s Dept of Injustice and reverse the government’s stand?

In addition to the hundreds of thousands of dead… this pandemic is going to leave MILLIONS with serious pre-existing conditions.

When I first saw that tweet (posted by a Pittsburgher of course) I pointed out that giant eagles normally appeared to carry people away from Mount Doom, not to it.
