All I can say is wow.

(somebody at kos posted the lyrics)

March March to my own drum
March March to my own drum
Hey hey I’m an army of one
Oh I’m an army of one

March March to my own drum
March March to my own drum
Hey hey I’m an army of one
Oh I’m an army of one

Brenda’s packin’ heat cuz she don’t like Mondays
Underpaid teacher policing the hallways
Print yourself a weapon and take it to the gun range
Ah cut the shitYou ain’t goin’ to the gun range

Standing with Emma and our sons and daughters
Watchin’ our youth have to solve our problems
I’ll follow them so who’s comin’ with me
Half of you love me
Half already hate me

March March to my own drum
March March to my own drum
Hey hey I’m an army of one
Oh I’m an army of one

March March to my own drum
March March to my own drum
Hey hey I’m an army of one
Oh I’m an army of one

Tell the ol’ boys in the white bread lobby
What they can and can’t do with their bodies
Temperatures risin’ cities are sinkin’
Ah cut the shitYou know your city is sinkin’

Lies are truth and truth is fiction
Everybody’s talkin’
Who’s gonna listen
What the hell happened in Helsinki

March March to my own drum
March March to my own drum
Hey hey I’m an army of one
Oh I’m an army of one

March March to my own drum
March March to my own drum
Hey hey I’m an army of one
Oh I’m an army of one

I’m still trying to get my mortgage company to fix my mortgage. So far, it’s been two months of obfuscation. Two weeks ago I had to prove who I was so that a mortgage rep could talk to me via email. Today she sent me an email (without copying my lawyer, which to me is Not Cool) saying that an escrow had been run. Why yes, it had been run. But none of the forced place insurance and late fees had been taken off my account. (Remember, when they took over the account, they left the unit number off any mailings and it was only sheer luck and the grace of the Postal Service that I got one and found out I was being foreclosed upon.)

As of right now, they say I owe them approximately $1261. That would be the late fees and forced place insurance that they put on my account starting April 2019. I copied the escrow, logged into my account and copied some screens showing that I’m still being hammered with late fees and sent it all to my attorney. The thing is, I can’t even figure out where they got the total figure ($2058 including my 7/1 payment). It’s not easily added up.

This is ridiculous. The fact is, I could make this go away by sending them the $1261, but then I would open myself up for other bogus nonsense from these vultures. So, no, I’m going to let my lawyer handle this.

Florida Men Sad Racist Monument Was Moved, Even Sadder When Court Tells Them To Suck It (Wonkette)

A bunch of racist organisations and people objected to the courts that the City of Lakeland, Florida moved a Confederate obelisk from the town square to a veterans cemetery.

The 11th Circuit struck down their petition for lack of standing.

The legal arguments here are so fucking stupid that I was amazed these fools had even found a lawyer to bring the case — until I googled their lawyer.

The plaintiffs were represented by David McAllister, a Florida Man who leads the Tampa chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and acted as a spokesperson for Save Southern Heritage Florida, which exists to protect monuments to slavery and racism. Save Southern Heritage Florida is known for doxxing civil rights activists and calling them things like “resentful black man,” “resentful black woman,” and “anti-law enforcement” in a spreadsheet posted on their website. McAllister also recently ran for the Florida state legislature as a “pro-Trump Republican,” with a platform based on protecting racist monuments, letting people have all the guns and bump stocks they want, and discriminating against pregnant people.

Active coronavirus cases at VA have doubled in June (Military Times)

The number of active coronavirus cases among Veterans Affairs patients has doubled since the start of June, due mostly to rising numbers of infected individuals at hospitals in Texas, Florida, California and other virus hot spots across the country.

On Thursday morning, VA officials reported 2,815 active cases of the fast-spreading virus across 132 medical facilities. That’s up more than 60 percent in the last week alone and twice the department’s reported active case total of 1,390 at the start of June.

The number of active cases had dropped steadily through May since peaking around 3,000 in the early part of the month. Now, nearly all of those reductions are gone.

Tell us again how you support veterans, GOP?

As of Thursday, 1,560 patients in VA care have died from coronavirus complications in the last 100 days. That number is up 30 percent in June alone.

Former Nevada representative Joe Heck (R) argued before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee that the veterans preference programme for federal employment should be scaled back, arguing the programme is “inequitable” in it doesn’t apply to all veterans. He also argued it excludes civilians who are better qualified (narrator: that’s a lie).

Under rules outlined by the Office of Personnel Management, veterans preference in federal hiring is limited to individuals with honorable discharge who have a service disability or deployed in an overseas conflict, with a few other exceptions. Most military retirees do not qualify.

He also wants a time limit put on the programme of ten years to use it or lose it.

The programme exists because military personnel are frequently at a disadvantage in the civilian job market after leaving the military. Altering the programme is considered controversial; Sen. Lankford (R-Okla.) noted as much in the committee hearing.

New research explores how conservative media misinformation may have intensified the severity of the pandemic (Washington Post, more at the link)

In April, Kathleen Hall Jamieson of the Annenberg Public Policy Center and Dolores Albarracin of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign published a peer-reviewed study examining how Americans’ media diets affected their beliefs about the coronavirus.

Administering a nationally representative phone survey with 1,008 respondents, they found that people who got most of their information from mainstream print and broadcast outlets tended to have an accurate assessment of the severity of the pandemic and their risks of infection. But those who relied on conservative sources, such as Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, were more likely to believe in conspiracy theories or unfounded rumors, such as the belief that taking vitamin C could prevent infection, that the Chinese government had created the virus, and that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention exaggerated the pandemic’s threat “to damage the Trump presidency.”

Maybe - just maybe - reality is starting to settle into Trump’s mind. An unwitting slip during an interview with Sean Hannity gives us a little peek into his convoluted brain.

President Donald Trump seemed resigned to losing reelection in 2020 during a Thursday evening interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News.

Trump predicted Joe Biden would win while attacking the former vice president.

“The man can’t speak and he’s gonna be your president because some people don’t love me, maybe and all I’m doing is doing my job,” Trump said.

During the interview, Trump also complained about protesters, Democrats, the media, the court system and testing for COVID-19 during the coronavirus pandemic.

Virtually everything we buy is with currency. (Studies are mixed on whether Covid-19 can actually survive on a banknote, it seems more likely on coins because hard surface). I’m not sure about countries which use plastic banknotes like Canada though.

Banknotes circulate here from all over the country (we are a long way from any Federal Reserve Bank; the nearest is St. Louis, Mo.)

It would seem if Covid-19 was a problem on banknotes, we would have had our outbreak in the Nebraska Panhandle before April, since everyone uses banknotes and almost no store takes credit cards. (The only thing we use our credit cards for are long trips or Internet purchases.)

Interestingly, California is one of the few states which the law allows you to use a credit card to purchase lottery tickets.

Can you buy lottery tickets with a credit card? (Bankrate)

Some store chains also prohibit credit cards or even debit cards (Safeway for example) whether or not the state allows it.

Isn’t a random tan generator the thing Donald Trump uses?

$50 and $100 banknotes regularly circulate here. We regularly use cheques, both to pay bills and in stores. Neither of my banks issues credit cards (one does issue an ATM card, the other does not). As far as I know, the only way I can do a bank transfer is to walk into the bank.

When we were on our Yukon/Alaska trip, I got an E-mail notification from CenturyLink that we had not paid our telephone bill and were in danger of being cut off. I hopped on their chat service, where they desperately wanted me to use a credit card to pay them right then (I only had my ATM card). It was like pulling teeth out of them to get their mail address so we could send them a cheque via Canada Post.

I recall a conversation we had with someone in Yukon about Canada’s banknotes. It seems Canada didn’t test their banknotes in the range of extreme temperature conditions found in the north of the country, and people in Yukon complain that when it gets really cold outside, a banknote can break.

I was just thinking, the upcoming Presidential debates are gonna be interesting. For all of Trump’s trashtalking Biden about not being able to form coherent sentences (yeah, Trump just spews whatever nonsense pops into his head at the moment), I think that Biden can easily handle Trump in any debate. I even wouldn’t be surprised if after one debate, Trump cancels the other two and heads off to some re-election rally instead.

All Biden needs to say is, “You slowed down testing and killed well over one hundred thousand Americans. You’ve enriched yourself and your family at the expense of hardworking American taxpayers. You hired your idiot kids and their spouses and your campaign paid the significant others of your children over $180,000 each. You filed for re-election a mere five hours after being sworn in so you could sell tacky merchandise. You never finished nominating the people you’re responsible for to important government positions, most of which had to do with financial oversight; indeed, you’ve had more ‘acting’ department heads than any Presidency in history. You’ve had more cabinet members resign in disgrace for corruption than any other President. You can’t form a coherent sentence without a teleprompter and quite frankly, you’re so grossly unqualified for any form of responsibility, you’re not even fit to cut the ribbon at the opening of a Dairy Queen.”

And by the way - Joe Biden, if you’re reading LGF, feel free to use that.

re: #87 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

Not that I’ve experienced. While there are websites out there that claim that, all the retailers I visit do not allow it, nor do the stand-alone machines take credit cards.

I was just going by the article. The one time I was in California I didn’t buy lotto tickets.

The article does say that stores can impose restrictions above what the state restricts.

As far as I can see in the state law regarding lotteries (private and by the state) in California, credit cards are not restricted.

The only time the words “credit card” appear in the code regulating lotteries (public and private) is here:

(6) The Department of Justice shall issue regulations to implement the requirements of this subdivision, and the California Gambling Control Commission may issue regulations regarding the means by which the operator of a bingo game, as required by applicable law, may offer assistance to a player with disabilities in order to enable that player to participate in a bingo game, provided that the means of providing that assistance shall not be through any electronic, electromechanical, or other device or equipment that accepts the insertion of any coin, currency, token, credit card, or other means of transmitting value, and does not constitute or is not a part of a system that constitutes a video lottery terminal, slot machine, or device prohibited by Chapter 10 (commencing with Section 330).

The whole law is quite complicated and messy.

TITLE 9. OF CRIMES AGAINST THE PERSON INVOLVING SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC DECENCY AND GOOD MORALS [261 - 368.7] (California Legislature Website)

Yes, lotteries are regulated in the same law with sexual assault.

330. Every person who deals, plays, or carries on, opens, or causes to be opened, or who conducts, either as owner or employee, whether for hire or not, any game of faro, monte, roulette, lansquenet, rouge et noire, rondo, tan, fan-tan, seven-and-a-half, twenty-one, hokey-pokey, or any banking or percentage game played with cards, dice, or any device, for money, checks, credit, or other representative of value, and every person who plays or bets at or against any of those prohibited games, is guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall be punishable by a fine not less than one hundred dollars ($100) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by imprisonment in the county jail not exceeding six months, or by both the fine and imprisonment.

It’s probably easier for outlets to say “nope, not selling state lottery tickets on credit.”

The California Lottery Website is the very first search item on a search engine for that.

calottery.com

However, California removed the page from their Website.

There was a whole lot of criticism when the state rolled it out (for scratch off tickets, not on-line lotto tickets) in 2015. The Orange County Register did an article about the backlash against the state.

The current cant of ‘intersectionality’ and ‘resistance’ revives the late-Sixties’ alliance of black nationalists and the anti-American left, a radical romance conceived in embattled locations like Gaza, Beirut and the Columbia faculty lounge. Black Lives Matter, and the organizers of the Women’s March too, are the ideological descendants of the Black Panthers, by way of the Nation of Islam. The spoilt white college graduates currently screaming abuse at black and brown police officers are the grandchildren of the New Left.

Just a quick question for the nite owls (I’m at work).
Are you still using hard currency for your trades or using plastic?
I haven’t touched a Fed. Reserve Note in a month.

Primarily plastic. A few more cash purchases recently due to issues with the main card I use. And I do a lot more on-line shopping right now. Store visits are usually grocery, pet store, vet for the cats, and a local diner.

Also noted that the last time I got money from an ATM it gave me a few $50 notes. And there are a number of places that have signs up and won’t accept them. (Was used to just getting a group of $20 notes when I did something like get $100 from the machine.)

My main card just “disappeared” one day. Has not been mis-used. So I finally ordered a new card half-expecting to find the card the next day. Checked my laundry, desk drawers, etc. more than once. I just figured it is just going to turn up some place odd in the house one day since the last purchase on it was something on-line.

The only polling I’ve seen in Nebraska is Trump leading in NE-1 and 3, and Biden leading in NE-2.

That said, a large turnout in Omaha and South Sioux City - NE-2 - can overwhelm the other two districts and deliver three of the five electoral votes to Biden and the House seat to the Democrats.

On the other hand, in Omaha protests continue in front of Chris Janicek’s cupcake shop over his horrendous sexual harassment allegations by a staffer, demanding he withdraw from the US Senate race to make way for Alisha Shelton.

His latest lame excuse is “I can’t harass women, I’m a gay man.” Sure, dude. He still thinks he has the best chance of retiring Sen. Sasse, but he isn’t going to win the Democratic vote here playing the card “I’m gay.”

America’s single worst day of new coronavirus cases obliterated President Donald Trump’s fantasyland vision of a post-Covid America — even as he sowed new diversions in an effort to hide the reality of his leadership void in a deepening national crisis.

More than 37,000 new cases of Covid-19 were reported on Thursday, according to Johns Hopkins University data. The numbers superseded the previous darkest day of the pandemic, on April 24. The new data suggests that the sacrifices made by tens of millions of Americans who stayed at home, that cost many of them their jobs, might have been in vain. It also suggest that the aggressive state re-openings championed by Trump, who wants a quick economic reboot to boost his reelection hopes, exacerbated a situation that now seems close to tipping out of control across a swathe of southern states

The audio article from Rural Radio notes that these moths originate in Ohio and migrate west during Spring and Summer, eventually reaching above the treeline in the Rockies. They’re following the flowering season as the elevation rises.

In the autumn the pattern is reversed.

They also note that bears will turn over rocks and scoop up the moths from under them, eating whole pawfuls at a time. Naturalists nickname the moths “flying butter pats” for the amount of fat they contain.

My next-door neighbour before he died liked taking photographs of birds on a feeder he mounted near a living room window. I forgot we have poison ivy here as well. Lots of it. We’re at the very western edge of its range and near the highest altitude it will grow, plus it likes shaded areas with lots of water (meaning mostly along the North Platte River and my yard).

Critters were the least of our problems, we had hunters and gun nuts firing rounds off in the desert, then there was the matter of Bill Hooley, the ex-caretaker, who got fired for getting drunk and water tanker truck (the wells had all since dried up with the receding water table and we had to carry it up ourselves and dump it in a cistern, we managed to salvage the tank and mount it on a trailer)

He came along one afternoon, fortunately when nobody was about and shot the place up. He left my quarters alone, he seemed to mostly have a beef with the caretaker, whose place he trashed.

He was at large for some time before he finally got caught. He was known as the Red Baron Robber as he wore a red helmet liner while knocking over local businesses. He finally got caught trying to rob a local convenience market. He had left the motor running and a quick-thinking citizen just snatched the keys and he had to flee on foot.

Not very far….

His son tried to present that image of him crawling back home afterward as someone who has just come in from an exhausting 48-hour shift…Trump has never known a 48-hour shift unless you are perhaps referring to the occasional addled party weekend at Club 54 back in the 1990’s…that was the look of a sad, disillusioned old man whose Adderall was wearing off.

The number of coronavirus cases confirmed in Wyoming since the illness was first detected in the state in mid-March topped the 1,000 mark Wednesday.

The Wyoming Department of Health, in its daily coronavirus update, reported 24 new cases had been detected in eight counties to bring the state’s total since the pandemic began to 1,016.

Speaking of Gillette, Wyo.

Residents protest Gillette mayor and City Council, call for resignations (Gillette News-Record)

After about 90 minutes of protesting outside Gillette City Hall on Tuesday evening, dozens of city residents packed the City Council chambers to overflowing demanding former councilman Shay Lundvall be installed back on the council and for the mayor and council to step down.

Lundvall resigned his Ward 3 seat on the council last week less than 24 hours at the urging of Mayor Louise Carter-King and the rest of the council. They were reacting to a pair of complaints that Lundvall had “liked” a handful of Facebook posts that espoused sexist and offensive opinions.

Lundvall was told if he didn’t resign, the council would go public with its concern over the councilman’s actions on social media.

Yes, community members were protesting that the mayor and city council forced him to resign over sexist and offensive (racist) commentary on social media.

Everyone who spoke at the city council meeting demanded the mayor resign. They called it “unrighteous” (read: un-Christian) that a sexist and racist was “blackmailed” off the city council.

The town also circulated a petition to recall the mayor and other city council members, but recalls are not permitted under the Wyoming Constitution.

We had those in Michigan when I was growing up there. The rule from adults was “leave them alone.”

Reading up on the treatment if you’re poisoned by them, one of the drugs used to control the seizures they cause is Phenobarbital, so I’m already set if I eat any. /s

The House passed their criminal justice reform bill - and the Senate GOP says that it’s DOA and Trump wouldn’t sign it.

The GOP are a death cult and have no interest in bettering the nation. They care only about their personal enrichment.

The GOP are obstructionists and regressive know nothings who don’t care how many Americans die of covid19 or die at the hands of out of control law enforcement that all too frequently can murder persons of color without worrying about facing justice.

Rubio exemplified this with his statement that 95% of people who get covid19 don’t die.

It’s the 5% who die that is concerning since that’d mean at least a million Floridians would die. These fuckers don’t care. They’re a death cult (and the Trumpists are seeking to completely invalidate Obamacare, including the preexisting conditions protections.

The House CAN multi-task, but you’re going to see some erosion of efficicency given the number of days until November…and some prioritization seems necessary.

This is all true, but…

Where do you slot priority for the House between this and
a) getting aid, ANY kind of aid, out to combat the effects of the coronavirus?
b) protecting voting rights, including combatting voter suppression and protecting voting by mail?

The House CAN multi-task, but you’re going to see some erosion of efficicency given the number of days until November…and some prioritization seems necessary.

Pro-impeachment people are making the argument that failure to impeach Barr makes it much easier for him to engage in voter suppression - so as I see it, impeachment helps rather than hinders b) on your list.

He can’t suppress any votes since he doesn’t run any state elections. They’re arguing that he can discredit them, which, while true, Trump doesn’t actually need Barr to make those arguments. He’s been making those since 2016.

Two things this morning:

I went to YouTube to find Joe Biden’s town hall from yesterday in Pennsylvania. I had to put every word of description into the search line in order for it to finally come up (via PBS). Scrolling down a little I came to “related videos’ which were almost ALL about Biden’s ‘cognitive issues’ and his failing mental abilities. Just poisonous stuff. YouTube is as bad as Facebook for rancid disinformation on any subject (videos dealing with science issues are a total minefield).

Issue number 2: I have a nice breeze coming in my back window by my desk this morning, but it smells like someone up the block is having their driveway resurfaces. This does not bode well for enjoying the day…

Well, given that many Windows vulnerabilities concern web browsers, I see MS including Win7 for the new ChroEdge to be a positive, since Chromium is constantly being updated and MS is updating ChroEdge on top of that.

That said, Win7 is now completely deprecated for all but the large corporate users that pay MS buku bucks to write bespoke security patches for them, so it would be wise for people to move to Win10 ASAP.

Outside of needing paper money to break for change when at the laundromat or to use in soda and snack vending machines, or on the extremely rare occasion when I discover that a store proprietor doesn’t accept plastic (which has occurred to me only once, BTW), I generally haven’t used paper money for purchases in 25 years.

I guess the rationale is that they don’t want to shut down bars, so they can remain open without being able to do what actually makes them money.

Who wants to go to a bar if you can’t get a fucking drink? They’re trying to split the baby here. Dumb move.

It may mean takeout only. That’s what they’re doing in TX. Also, CA suspended the rules to allow for takeout of alcoholic beverages here.

So today on my local FB group page someone put an incredibly racist meme up. Then, because there are people of color on the page, there was a lot of outrage and fuck yous. So, of course, the OP comments, “Oh, I don’t believe in what the meme says, I just posted it for people to comment on it” (Meme was basically black people are ghetto for protesting) Of course people were pissed. So then OG says, “I can’t believe the language on here, I thought we were supposed to support each other.”

We know FL is covering up deaths. NJ is doing its best to be transparent about covid19 deaths.

A couple days ago, a comment here included a tweet about Florida manipulating data to hide number of cases with the intention of showing a continuing decline to meet CDC guidelines to justify their opening up the state. This may have been their intention — but Florida has shown a huge spike in new cases regardless of their original plans. The past 2 days had 5000 new cases — and today, it’s already almost 9,000. Once again, reality intervened, which it can do as long as there are multiple sources of information not controlled by an authoritarian regime.

Can you buy lottery tickets with a credit card? (Bankrate)

Some store chains also prohibit credit cards or even debit cards (Safeway for example) whether or not the state allows it.

Fella I haven’t seen a merchant in Los Angeles that allows anyone to buy lotto tickets with a credit card!

gosh. that sounds like the sort of bad press could get NASCAR to decertify the track.

I don’t think NASCAR certifies half-mile dirt tracks

re: #91 Dr Lizardo

Remember this debate?

My name for Lara Trump (the wife of Qusay) is Princesse de Dumballe. (After Marie Thérèse Louise of Savoy, Marie Antoinette’s BFF).

Google “Princesse de Lamballe” to find out what happened to her.

She should complain to her plastic surgeon about that. The number of procedures she’s had done, she should be a lot prettier.

Also, though, that hairdo sucks.

So, Pence drew a line from the peak in April through date of the tweet, and called that the slope. Worst calculus ever.

NJ was warning that Trump needed to abide by the state quarantine requirements in place because Trumpworld is a covid19 cesspool and had spent time in both AZ and OK where the cases are soaring.
