I don’t think they should impeach, but I do believe they should hold hearings on Barr, the DOJ, etc. etc. Let the info come out from now until election. The info can always be used at trials starting in January.

re: #306 Charles Johnson

The Democratic Party should have immediately moved to impeach Trump again when the first effort failed. There was no scarcity of impeachable offenses, ffs.

And then again if that effort failed. And then again, etc.

I know, I’m nuts. What am I thinking. Argh.

In an ideal world, I would love to have seen this happen and it would have been effective.

In the extremely skewed world we live in, Dems very well would have been strung up for trying that, by the media, by Red State dems, hell probably by lefter-than-thou folks who would’ve found an excuse to turn it into something, and definitely by the GOP and all involved there. And that noise machine could have very well translated it into some martyrdom support for Trump just because Dems are always wrong when they do something and wrong whenever they don’t do something.

It’s why I’m not hankering for Pelosi’s head like so many (including some folks I wish knew better) are, for not committing to impeaching Barr. Considering the logjam we’re getting as is for the current investigations will in progress thanks to subpoenas and documents still held up in court proceedings, I’m not convinced an impeachment could be fast tracked, nor that one would be greeted would open arms to begin with, even by the folks who are excoriating Dems for not doing so yesterday and a minute ago.

Am I being a bit gunshy with that? Possibly. I just find myself doubtful that repeated impeachment attempts would be anywhere near accepted as they should be under the current situation. Something that might be a bit colored by things like Baquet still insisting that the Times’ 2016 coverage was sterling and super-perfect.

It might be amusing if Candidate Biden were to promise all Trump administration officials blanket immunity, provided they do not show up for work Monday. Offer does not apply to officials named Trump.

I had the pleasure of hiding a Mike Pence ad for “FOUR MORE YEARS!” on Facebook. When it asked me why I wanted to hide it, I selected, “Irrelevant.” Because let’s face it, he really is.

Brazil has health care as a right and provides national funding for healthcare (though there still is private heath care too.)

And Brazil is turning out to be a big Covid-19 disaster.

Mexico also provides subsidized health care. And Mexico is turning out to be a Covid-19 disaster.

I’ve seen that graph on Facebook and elsewhere, but it really is cherry-picking data.

What sets the US, Brazil, and Mexico apart is that their respective leaders scoffed at Covid-19, compared to places in the world where leaders acted fast and decisively.

What you fail to understand is that in the USA we’re free to buy all the healthcare we can afford, but in those miserable socialized medicine shithole countries they only get the amount of healthcare they need.

I can’t remember if I saw this here or elsewhere, but even it if was here, it bears repeating.

Unchecked exponential growth always shows up as hitting a brick wall, like this TX hospitalization data.

A good way to see this is to work backward. Imagine an algae bloom that completely covers a lake at t = 0 and had a doubling time of a day. Then the lake was 1/2 covered at t = -1, it was 1/4 covered at t = -2 etc. So at t = -10 or so, a negligible fraction of the lake was covered, and the same was true of the next few days, even though everything is headed directly for that disaster at t = 0.

By now, Republicans are so allergic to reality that they can’t comprehend simple stuff like this, but reality does not care about their delusions.

Well Minneapolis is jumping straight into the experiment.

Minneapolis Council Moves To Defund Police, Establish ‘Holistic’ Public Safety Force

The Minneapolis City Council on Friday unanimously approved a proposal to eliminate the city’s police department, marking the first step toward establishing a new “holistic” approach to public safety.

The move follows more than a month of national outrage and protests against police brutality in the wake of the killing of George Floyd, a Black man who died after an officer pressed his knee into his neck for more than eight minutes.

The City Council advanced a proposed ballot measure today asking voters to create a new Department of Community Safety and Violence Prevention. news.minneapolismn.gov

— City of Minneapolis (@CityMinneapolis) June 26, 2020

The police department, which is largely white and has long struggled to adequately reflect the racial makeup of the city, has come under even greater scrutiny as public cries to defund the department have gained traction among elected officials.

I hate to say this, but it’s not like it can get all that much worse. Although Minneapolis is not legendary among the American capitals of crime, it’s an open secret that the police department has been corrupt and abusively violent for years.

lung damage

now diabetes

A letter in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests the possibility that COVID-19 could be causing the onset of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in some people.

However, experts tell Healthline that many of these people could have had prediabetes or undiagnosed cases of diabetes before entering the hospital.

Except for that four stupid bars fucked up and created 100 new cases in MN. Walz is trying to keep everyone aware and smart, but sometimes you can’t fix stupid.

Four Minnesota bars linked to youth COVID-19 surge

Outbreaks centered on four bars in Minneapolis and Mankato have contributed to a surge in COVID-19 cases in young adults, which state health officials warned could undermine months of planning and recent progress in managing the pandemic.

Roughly 100 people suffered COVID-19 infections related to crowding over the June 12-14 weekend at Rounders Sports Bar & Grill and the 507 in Mankato, while more than 30 cases have been identified among people who went to Cowboy Jack’s near Target Field and the Kollege Klub in Dinkytown between June 14 and June 21.

While growth of COVID-19 is inevitable until a vaccine is found for the novel coronavirus that causes it, preventable clusters could cause an escalation that could exhaust the state’s medical resources and leave vulnerable people at risk, said Kris Ehresmann, state infectious disease director.

“When you have 56 cases associated with one location from one weekend, that is not managing the rate of growth,” said Ehresmann, imploring businesses and individuals to take precautions “so that even as we open up, we are not putting ourselves in a position to overwhelm the system we worked so hard to strengthen.”
