In Which Donald Trump Approvingly Retweets a Video Showing a Racist Supporter Yelling “White Power!”

Politics • Views: 24,403

Today I was appalled again to check Donald Trump’s Twitter timeline and find a retweet of a video showing one of his supporters in Florida’s “The Villages” driving a golf cart festooned with Trump campaign stickers and flags, shouting “WHITE POWER” at anti-Trump demonstrators.

It’s no longer shocking that the president* of the US does things like this, but it will never stop being absolutely disgusting.

Trump left his tweet up for several hours, then deleted it when the outcry got too loud to ignore. One of his cronies then released this ludicrous excuse; he “didn’t hear it.”

P.S. …

You know, the great thing about a baseball with Trump stitched into it would be you could hit Trump with a baseball bat and no one could complain.

Not going to buy one, but there’s a little temptation.

F to the T, the GOP, and the mendacious media that enables all of them™.

Trump’s a white nationalist. It’s who he’s always been. He’s going back to his basics, and his base because that’s all he’s got left. Run with a racist agenda, blame China for his failure to do anything resembling a coherent covid19 response, and watch the bodies pile up due to his incompetence.

Selling out the US and endangering our troops by coddling Russia all while Russia put bounties on our troops’ heads is just one more sign that the GOP must be destroyed. They refuse to stop supporting Trump and continue enabling the most corrupt admin in history.

At the same time, the media continues their attempts at balance fairying the fuck out of things - like rounding up Biden misstatements or exaggerations, as though they make up for Trump’s whoppers, outright lies, and criminal conduct.

Nothing stands out more than the attempt to claim Biden somehow got the number of deaths wrong. He corrected himself within moments. That barely qualifies as a misstatement; Trump just outright lies about everything, and it shows.

Trump did Na-Zi or hear the guy screaming “white power”…just like he did Na-Zi the intelligence briefing about Putin paying bounties to Taliban for each American soldier they killed.

I have no regrets that I threw that consolation prize in the trash. It means nothing to Republicans…except Mitt Romney who actually did his job…

c’mon now, Trump is perfectly capable of multitasking…. he’s still got his heinous immigration policy he’s enforcing and piling on with denying visas to those who see opportunities here in professions where brain-power is a positive plus and still be a racist and still be attempting to destroy the ACA in a pandemic and allow the Russians to run a bounty program on US soldiers and our allies in military scenarios. This administration is not limited in any way, Putin pulls his strings and plays on his leverage and each week a new front is opened on weakening our democracy at home and abroad. He has a ready group of enablers put into position by a bunch of selfish tax-evaders and religious racists who believe that power is the only thing that matters that also allows them to being manipulated into their own confirmation biases that also happen to be aided and abetted by multiple news organizations that are free to peddle whatever crap they choose to designate as news as a means to make money, which also serve as a mechanism to allow them to appeal to those personal flaws that so many of our friends and neighbors have to help them feel special and righteous and persecuted at the same time.

We will defeat him and it will take a long time to unfuck this and yes, it will likely result in me paying more taxes and having to stay a tad more engaged in the day to day politics than I would like. I would love to return to the days when politics were boring, but alas, the KGB dude in Russia won’t have it and its going to take some time for us as a country to address our racism, pursuit of the almighty doillar and allowing a bunch of old-testament busy bodies to determine just what faith is to have the soap box for too long. Lotta work to do, phase one is removing the guy at the top and his pyramid of enablers to someplace where they can no longer do any harm.

Afternoon Lizardim from the boiling hot wild north country. It’s that time of the year where both the temperature and the humidity are in the mid-to-high 90’s, which means this particular lizard is going to be even more introverted than usual as I seek to avoid the sun’s evil gaze. How go things among the lizardfolk on this spectacular summer Sunday?

Speaking of obnoxious Trump supporters, a man showed up in church this morning wearing a MAGA hat and carrying - I shit you not - an actual mask of Donald J. Trump under his arm. When he put the mask on, I literally had to leave the room because my impulse to punch him was so strong (and honestly unexpected). There are times I hate living in this particular corner of the wild north country… that was one of them.

The Pie Overlord!  Jun 28, 2020 • 11:52:52am

I was in Meijer today wearing a mask when suddenly… this is awful… my nose started to run. I did not want to wipe my nose on the inside of the mask. I was in the produce department, sometimes they have paper towels but I didn’t see any! What to do! I was close to the deli section where they sold sandwiches, and there was a napkin dispenser!

I grabbed a couple of napkins, found a place away from other people & blew my nose.

My wife and I are working with loppers and saws on brush and branches that have grown into the sides of one of our disc golf fairways, limiting the throws. (Our Red Course hole 6.) We’ve already got enough piles of wood and brush to fill a half a dozen pickup truck beds. Most of it is ash, buckthorn, honeysuckle, and grape - with a few strands of wild rose woven throughout and an occasional dead elm.

To be fair, I don’t do the grocery shopping, Mrs. Fish does. She goes to Aldi, and they require masks. And besides, as much as I complain about the wingnut idiots here, let’s talk about the good side: For all their bluster and assholishness, they have no real power. The governor doesn’t have to fear his executive orders getting shot down by the legislature or the Supreme Court. And I hardly ever have to interact with any of the really bad ones on a personal level; most of the people I know and work or play games with are reasonable and intelligent individuals.

“Corrupt Joe is shot” sounds like a threat, like he wants somebody to go out and shoot him.

I just want to say that the number of commercials run by the Trump campaign and surrogates deriding Biden as having dementia on Arizona news channels is getting out of hand. On the one hand, it’s only June and Trump having to advertise in a formerly red state is a good thing. On the other hand, my blood pressure skyrockets every time I see one of those ads, so not a good thing.

During the half hour I watched news with my brother last night, I saw at least two ads directly paid for by the Trump campaign, and a similar ad from a surrogate campaign. I’d also note that Martha McSally is running some lying ads about Mark Kelly, saying he’s a surrogate for China. Kelly’s reply ads point out that he served in the Air Force, flew X number of missions during Desert Storm, commanded two space shuttle missions, and has a bunch of medals.

I kind of wish the Biden campaign would run ads, but right now it’s rather useless. However, I’m hoping they’ve got some 30 second ads of Trump speaking absolute word salad ready to go at some point.

yeah, McSally is trying to imply that Kelly has “sold out” to China and the Trump ads imply that America (i.e. the Democrats) passed legislation transferring “our manufacturing jobs” to China. So they’re trying to paint this picture that the Democrats are in the pockets of the Chinese and that they’re the “true traitors”… typical GOP projection. Anyone with a firing set of synapses knows this shit simply isn’t true but since it’s “the first lie on the field”, it’ll get a buttload of play up against the impressionables and folks too damn busy to pay attention. McSally tried this shit against Sinema and still ended up losing even tho Sinema wasn’t exactly a perfect candidate. Thing is, we’ve become even more polarized since that election and I’m really unsure that going back to this well is gonna help, all of the numbers state otherwise. Also, locally in AZ, those ads about mcSally truthfully stating her votes on Healthcare are going to leave a mark, especially in these times of the pandemic and with Arizonans getting ill by the truckload. If enough voters live thru this, I think McSally is going down and so is Trump.

The really difficult part is going to be deprogramming all of these people.

He passed away at Presbyterian hospital in Rockwall around 1:40pm, Thursday June 25th.

If Trump were to drop out, the GOP delegates would choose new candidates for president and vice president. One would assume that Pence, Cruz, Haley, Cotton, etc. would be vying for the nomination.

Yeah, Fox Business asshole.

Still, I gotta assume that people from Fox would have pretty reliable sources inside, so I’m not inclined to dismiss this out of hand.

And besides - what would be the benefit of floating this if it weren’t a possibility? I don’t see it. The base is going to vote for him no matter what. If this is a try for a sympathy vote, it’s a pretty goddamned lame one.

They have a vested interest in Republicans. They’re going to lose the WH, likely the Senate and Dems week make further inroads into the House.

I can see Fox doing everything it can to get rid of trump. I’m not sure what it means but they have an angle. And it’s never good for America.

So, stupid question. What are the rules around candidacy? Donald J. Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee, and many states have already chosen him. If he drops out, can the RNC just decide to nominate whoever they want, regardless of the primaries and caucuses?

About the Dem side of the equation, I just saw this tweet:

It’s a Fox news duty to back the mayor of Amity and get those tourists back in the water, they wouldn’t be doing their rightful job as political operatives otherwise.

Kind of took the words right out of my mayor’s mouth:

As more communities say they have coronavirus cases tied to Grand Strand trips, Myrtle Beach’s mayor called the reports “disheartening” and rejected calls for closing tourist activities.

“I think it’s very unfair,” Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune said… “We need our visitors, we love them,” the Mayor said.

Yeah, Brenda—go ahead and love them to death. Sigh.

More evidence that trying to justify slavery made white people batshit insane.
Drapetomania” was the supposed mental illness that caused slaves to want to run away and be free. It was described by a Dr. Samuel Cartwright in 1851. He also diagnosed a separate illness, Dysaesthesia aethiopica, which caused slaves to be lazy and not want to work like, well, slaves.
This was taken seriously in the South though universally mocked elsewhere.

Paraphrasing Lincoln here but I wish to try slavery out on those who think it a good practice.

In his remarks on Sunday, Pence commended Abbott for his “courageous and compassionate leadership.”
“Working with your governor, we will put the health of the people of the Lone Star state first, and every single day, we will continue to reclaim or freedom and our way of life as each day we are one day closer to the day we put this pandemic past and when we do, with this governor and this president, we will bring Texas and America bigger and better than ever before,” Pence told the congregation.

I hope there is a hell just so that Pence can find himself there when he dies. What an evil bastard.

The story mentioned a few people who were there with him but they didn’t mention Deborah Birx. Did she extract herself from this death trap?
